We’ve told you about Google’s shift to including Google+ results in its searches, and also the controversy that has come from it as other social media outlets fight back. But what will it mean for your company’s website, and your SEO? Already, sources are speculating that this social switch to search results could have a bigger impact on Google than even the infamous Panda update, which aimed to remove lower-quality content from search results....
Fast on the heels of Google’s announcement it would be integrating Google+ results with its regular search results, Twitter released a statement opposing the new changes. Twitter spokesman Matt Graves said that people often rely on Google to deliver the most relevant results when they want to find something on the internet. Often, these results are coming from Twitter: “As we’ve seen time and time again, news breaks first on Twitter; as a result, Twitter accounts and Tweets are often the most relevant results”. This update will affect the reported 62 million users of Google+, making it a major update for them....
In their ongoing climb up the proverbial “social ladder” Google has now merged Google + into its search results. What this means, moving forward any Google + member who is signed in will be able to search the entire web as well as their own Google + circles. This includes photos and content posts from the Google + circles of that user. Google is calling this search update “Search, plus your World”. Their goal here is to try to transform Google into a search engine that not only understands content, but people and relationships as well. This all began with “personalization” back in the Spring of 2007....
Just when you thought you were getting a handle on Social Media and managing your online reputation, Google has gone and changed the playing field again! Earlier this year Google decided to try again at creating a social network and launched Google +. They set this “project” up so you could sign in and then invite your friends and family to your “circle” in order to share with them things you like or found interesting. Unlike Facebook, Google + was built from the ground up around the idea of being able to share information or products with a group of people....
With Facebook’s recent changes to its personal page design, Twitter couldn’t be left behind in updates. Therefore, Twitter recently implemented significant redesign changes, with new tabs for browsing, embeddable tweets, and even new brand or business pages. Twitter’s new “Discover” tab runs an algorithm which finds relevant tweets to your interests from people that you do not follow. Otherwise, the new tabs are basically features that have been available on Twitter before, but have been repackaged....
One of the newest and fastest moving opportunities in the online marketing arena is LOCAL. In the beginning it was just about getting your business up on the map section of the search engines, however that has evolved into, not only showing up on the map as a ‘letter designated pin point’, but having your business be at the top of the alphabet which now shows up in a list above the actual organic listings a majority of the time. Since local customers get more elusive and savvy online, local businesses need to stay in step, if not one step ahead, of their customers’ online behavior in an effort to remain significant and top of mind in their local markets....
When you do a search on a search engine and the results come up - what is the map and the little red balloons with letters in them? That is what is referred to as “local listings”. And it should become a bigger and bigger part of your online marketing strategy, especially if your business relies on your neighbors buying your products or paying for your services to stay afloat. Claiming your listings or profiles (depending on what you want to call them) and optimizing them to help get you to the top of the list can be critical to the success of your local business....
Google is starting to test out a new feature – “infinite scroll”. Already implemented in its Images search section, infinite scroll would allow readers to click to view more results on the same page instead of continuing through pages 2, 3, or 4 when performing a search engine query. In essence, this feature would allow everyone to rank for “page 1” on the Google search results. You may wonder what sort of impact this will have on your company’s SEO. For starters, there will now be multiple chances to “rank number one” as people click to show more results, making rankings 11, 21, 31, etc. also important....
Google’s latest attempt to build and grow a social network is called Google+ (spoken as “Google Plus”). Because most people are sharing links, articles and ideas outside of the Google network (mostly via Facebook and Twitter), the search giant has found itself at a disadvantage. Google has undoubtedly noticed that people are consuming massive amounts of content based on the recommendations of friends within their social networks. Because of this rate of consumption, Google has taken interest in the relationship of the content being consumed to the interests of the user....
A study conducted at SEOmoz is helping us understand how tweets influence search rankings. The study has shown that a bit.ly link tweeted by an influential user group has the ability to rank keywords quickly, without followed links and without anchor text. As 2011 marches on, the issue of social signals and how Google factors them in to it’s search results is beginning to take shape. While Google has been somewhat forthcoming on the key ingredients of search, it’s not ready to reveal all it’s secrets just yet....

Internet marketing has been around for over 15 years now. Yet, we still see some marketers not willing to embrace it. It isn’t that marketers don’t know it is important. Without question they do. Google Places quality guidelines state that the business name for your listing should represent your business exactly as it appears in the offline world. Taglines, phone numbers, URLs, and extraneous keywords should not be added to the business name field. While you can still see businesses use this strategy, it is not a long term strategy and in the end could get you delisted or penalized within the local search results. A best practice in regards to Google Places is to use a standard version of your legal business name. Google gathers local citations across the web to create, update, and rank Google Place listings....
