First time in years, I have been able to "see the soil" under the oak leaves and grass clipping decomposition of months gone by. Coupled with the sweeper, it makes cleaning up the yard much simpler. Great time saver! I easily rigged up a rope to lift or lower the dethatcher when certain areas needed extra attention...without having to get off the mower to readjust. I just leave it on the sweeper now in the up position and it's ready for action anytime I need it. Highly recommend this item.

(More customer reviews)The motor/shredder unit (the heaviest part of the machine) is tongue mounted and moves considerably side-to-side as the terrain changes, causing the discharge elbow to get out of alignment with the opening in the leaf cart. This causes the connecting boot to wear out almost immediately. In addition, the tilt/dump feature is worthless since debris still has to be raked out.
This could be a great machine if the manufacturer would simply beef up the framing, tie the motor and cart to that framing, and eliminate the dumping feature. The philosophy is great, but the design is lacking...be prepared to re-build it yourself if satisfaction is the goal.

(More customer reviews)I've always liked Troy-Bilt's heavier tillers, and used an 8-HP model for many years until I finally traded it off to a landscaper for some hardscaping. My remarks ONLY apply to Troy-Bilt's heavy models - 8 HP and up. I would pass their smaller tillers by.
Troy-Bilt's design is rough and ready, but the machine is heavy (a positive in a tiller), it's well-balanced, the gearing in the transmission will take constant use, and the controls work flawlessly. If you aren't breaking new ground, you really can operate it one-handed as advertised - it really is that smooth. Two things to watch out for, though: hit a big rock and this tiller can take quite a jump (picture several hundred pounds in the air with tines rotating), and you need to be very careful in reverse, as the machine is (properly) balanced for forward motion, not reverse.
I have also want to note for clarification purposes that while the description of this tiller indicates that the transmission is cast iron, that refers to the casing - the gears are actually bronze, which is considerably better! Finally, correcting another reviewer, the maximum tilling depth is 8". It cannot till a foot deep. Considering that a lot of tractor-mounted, Ag tillers only till 8" or so, I'd say that's more than adequate!
So why 4 stars instead of 5? Two reasons - Briggs and Stratton engines, and cost. Troy-Bilt used to offer engine alternatives, including the Kohler Magnum. I've regretted most purchases I've made with Briggs engines, the latest being a top-of-the-line Ariens commercial snowblower that was recalled, for all things, for engine fires! The cost of the Troy-Bilts has now risen to the point where I think you're paying too much for an antiquated design, in spite of its virtues. At this price point, I'd start seriously considering a BCS tiller for a little more. But if the price of the Troy-Bilt has already maxed you out and you can live with Briggs, you are getting a good tiller - you'll have to come to terms with the value for the money for yourself.
Troy-Bilt is now owned by MTD, a company that is known for its value-priced merchandise in the big box home centers and in discount stores, not for top quality equipment (nothing wrong with that in itself, of course). As a result, however, I'm not expecting any investment into Troy-Bilt improvements either.

(More customer reviews)See the reviews others have posted for the 31cc model - wish I had seen these before I bought this as those reviews seem indicative of bigger quality issues at Yard Machines which also seem to be sold under Sears Craftsman brand. As others noted with the smaller model, I had issues out of the box with the pull start. Used the tiller just 3 times before the pull start broke - took it apart and found cheap/plastic/flimsy parts. But tiller was still under warranty so took it to one of their shops to do the repair. 5 months later and still waiting for the part. When it worked, the tiller did the job but couple cautions:
1) with just the one support wheel in front, the tiller kicks side to side and is very hard to balance so you'd better be very big, fit, and strong to handle it because you are going to get a workout.
2) if it leans too much, oil leaks and very difficult to start/run until it burns it all out in great clouds of smoke.
Got this onsale for 279 which is a lot less than listed here and would avoid paying more based on Yard machine quality problems.

The head is easily reversed (pushbutton) for edge trimming.
The only letdown, it uses 1.65 mm string instead of the better 2 mm heavy duty line from WeedEater.
The trimmer will use up the thin line in a hurry.:-( You have to enlarge the string retainer hole in the spool slightly in order to be able to fit the slightly thicker string. But that is easy.
They say in the owners manual it will overheat the motor if you use a bigger diameter string.
But it will run powerfully, even with the 2 mm string and it does not overheat either.
As long as you realize the limitations of a 12" trimmer, it works just fine.
BTW, the 2 year warranty is not bad either.

(More customer reviews)I took delivery on one of these beauties about three weeks ago and it is one fine rototiller! The 10hp Honda engine is powerful and reliable. The gear-driven business end of the rototiller is sharp and smooth and twirls around about twice as fast as my old Troybilt, making for very fine work. The tractor has three forward gears -- one of which is apparently designed to pull along a sulky at a speed faster than you can walk -- and will cover about twice, perhaps thrice, as much ground in the same time my old tiller took.
However a buyer should know that assembly is required and the assembly instructions are almost completely inadequate. It will arrive on two pallets--the tractor and the tiller seperately--and you'll have a puzzle that will keep you trying to figure things out for a day or two. So plan on being mechanically inclined.
The buyer should also know that this particular model is probably too big and difficult for my wife to operate. She's the primary gardener and the brains behind our garden. But I'll be the one who'll probably do the tilling. It weighs about 275 pounds and can't just be wrestled around on the turns although the differential transmission helps quite a bit here. A more serious problem is that your left hand has to be above-average in size to cover and operate both the safety switch and the clutch on the left handle.
But it's a wonderful piece of equipment that is at least as good and probably better than I expected for its premium price.

(More customer reviews).....really without a hitch. I received this item for Christmas and after Southern California got drenched with a wet winter, my backyard was like a jungle. I took out my new trimmer and wacked the crap out of everything that I could. It performed nicely for the most part, however, I did have a problem with the electrical cord continually falling out of trimmer. This was not a problem since it usually was about to happen when my poor arm needed a break anyway. For week-to-week trimming and edging, I think that this unit will be quite sufficient for my needs. I was impressed with the power it packed in taking down some pretty large items to be wacked. After a total usage time of probably 4-5 hours total of trimming and edging over two weekends, I believe I only had to retrieve the plastic twine from within 3 times. Each time it had slipped in while I was edging. I had no problem with the feed while I was trimming. Overall, I'm pleased. I hope it can last the test of time.

Feel like I'm ready for Spring now. It doesn't use what I consider the traditional "string" though, it uses a fixed length piece of line you pull into place. Not sure yet if I'm going to have any issues getting replacement line, or how fast one piece will wear down.

Then one day I was knee deep in the swamp cutting cattails just under the waterline and KABLOOEY! The cattails wrapped around the bush cutter head and the EZ Link drive cable twisted apart at the coupling. I thought it could do everything! I was disappointed. ;-))
Actually I give it 5 stars. It was saftey engineered well enough that I didn't have my arm cut off when the cutting head wrapped around the cattails and pulled me off my feet into the swamp and the cutter. The safety engine kill and brake worked like a charm.
I took the motor (which was still alright) and made a fence post auger out of it. That sucker has some torque!
Yes, I am a red-neck if you were wondering...

(More customer reviews)The quality control during manufacture of the sweeper body was poor. Holes in sheets of metal were not aligned properly before welding so bolts would not fit in holes. I had to drill holes to insert bolts. Holes in pins were also too small so cotter keys did not fit.
The sweeper can not be used at speeds over 3mph. This is less than half the speed I normally mow with my John Deere tractor. You also can only set the sweeper a half inch from the top of the grass. So, it will not sweep twigs or leaves down in the grass. If you do not follow either of these rules, the gears on the inside of the wheels quickly become stripped. (They became stripped in the first hour I used the sweeper.)
This is one of the worst tools I have ever purchased. I strongly urge readers to avoid it.

It starts easy, has a strong engine, requires very little maintenance, is lightweight, and the line feeds very easily (something that can be a real problem with most trimmers). The oil needs to be added to the machine before using and changed one every year (which is very easy to do). This could be why one reviewer of this item found that their unit melted on first use. Being a 4-cycle engine, it does require oil. I'd strongly recommend this trimmer to anyone who has some serious (or minor) trimming to be done on a regular basis. It's a great all-around option. You will not be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)This is a heavy duty outdoor fireplace. It does not have the elegance of copper or the newer simulated stone fireplaces. This product is highly flexible, it accommodates full size logs at a proper height for a good fire. Some fireplaces have a small fire box which limits the size of the fire to the point that you can not generate a lot of heat or use the safety screen on the fireplace.
This is my second fireplace from this manufacturer. I would recommend two improvements to this item. One would be an access door so that you do not have to lift the lid the add more wood (or to roast marshmallows). The second would be to make the wire mesh heavier as it oxidizes a little too quickly. This second issue is easily improved by spraying the mesh with fire resistant paint before using the product.
Both of these issues are minor problems and are mentioned in the hopes that the manufacturer improves the product by the time that I am ready to purchase a replacement for my current fireplace.
BTW, I shopped extensively before purchasing this current fireplace. It has by far the best combination of features which I desired in an outdoor fireplace.

(More customer reviews)This is a basic no frill generator. Just what I needed to run my sump pump and fridge/freezer. Assembly took about 20 min. Put on the wheels, handle and front foot. Added gas and oil, and it started in one pull. This unit puts out 29 amps at 120 volts. More than enough to power what I need in an emergency. It is a little loud, but at $460 who can complain? I switched to synthetic oil after break in to help starting in cold weather as recomended in the manual.This is a very nice, well made, simple to use generator.

(More customer reviews)I have had this edger for about 4 years. Everything was great until the lever that adjusts the edging angle broke. The plastic blade guard also broke so I ordered the parts I needed online. After repairing the machine, the lever broke again in the exact same spot. I took it to a repair shop and they said they make that repair on these machines all the time and there is no guarantee on the work to repair this issue. I asked why and they told me it was due to a poor design. There is a lot of pressure put on that little lever. The engine runs great.
I have not fixed this again, I was thinking of purchasing a new edger, but i haven't found one that I like yet.
