(More customer reviews)I cook a lot, and and very picky about knives. This one's a winner! If I could only have one single knife in my whole kitchen, it would be this one. The big curved handle fits my (average male) hands really well. The blade is the right size and has the right amount of curvature. There is plenty of weight and an almost totally rigid blade (doesn't flex more than you'd want). And most importantly, the thing sharpens up like a sword. After I hand-sharpened it, guests who use this knife tell me they find it almost scary how sharp it is. And it stays sharp with very minimal maintenance. This knife is the best for all-around cooking. (For more delicate, super-precise cooking, try the Wusthof Asian Cook's Knife instead.)

I absolutely hate this oven. The timer slips and stops clicking but does not turn the over off. It is a fire hazard. A few times the oven kept toasting and I finally noticed the smoke and burning smell. I usually use the "light" or "medium" setting but one of us has to literally stand next to the oven while toasting to manually turn it off. I wish I returned it right away.

(More customer reviews)This is a heavier mixer than the "Artisan" model, and the bowl raises and lowers on a lever rather than the head of the mixer lifting up. If you make heavy breads or a lot of bread for your family, this may be a better choice mixer with the stronger motor.
You can also add a grain grinder to the front of the device--there's a lid that flips up and you insert it into a hole with a positioning pin. The motor then turns the grinder, sausage stuffer or vegetable grater. The grinders work terrific; the vegetable grater/slicer is a variation on those cone slicers and not my favorite attachment. But for a one-stop heavy-duty device that mashes potatoes, kneads bread, whips egg whites, stirs cake batter or grinds wheat flour or rye flour, this can't be beat.

(More customer reviews)02/04/10 I had been searching and shopping for just the 'right' China for going on 3 years. There was so much to consider even though some may say, "it's just dishes". I was thinking about the appearance, the quality, the price, the durability, the ablility to acquire additional pieces and the piece replacement availability when needed. I searched on-line until everything became a giant blur and I shopped in stores until I got blisters from all the walking. I even searched on-line, narrowed down my search to three choices and then when back to the stores to compare, only because holding it in your hand and looking at it is far better than just seeing a picture of it.
Finally the descision was made and Mikasa Platinum Crown was the winner and I purchased it from Amazon. The shipped package arrived much sooner than I had expected so that was a plus. The package itself was unbelieveably well packed so it did arrive completely unharmed and everything was in tact. Even though I had seen it in the stores, for some reason it looked so much nicer in my home as I unpacked the box. I felt like a kid at Christmas, I was so tickled. After unpacking the box, I ran everything through the dishwasher and upon completion I removed my very beautiful and shiny new China to put away. Wow; even 6 weeks later I'm still impressed at the great look everytime I pass by the China Cabinet.
Now about the product. I have other Mikassa pieces so I already knew I was buying quality, durability, appearance and gaining the ability to add on or replace pieces as needed. Finding this 58 piece collection at Amazaon was pure icing on the cake. The 3 high end retail stores (I won't mention names) were at least triple and then some of the price that Amazon offered without including the additional 8 bread and butter plates, 8 fruit bowls and the serving bowl and platter. I can't say enough positive things about this product. The white China trimmed out in platinum is both elegant and impressively stunning. This is high end fine dinning at an incrediable price. In fact I am ordering another set so I can have a service of 12. Two sets of 8 will be a service of 16 but I'll just store a service of 4 in the event that any of the pieces might get broken. Even with the price for two sets, there's no way I could ever have matched cost or value on any similar product for a service of 12.
This is an awesome set of fine China at an absolutely phenomenal price. Do your homework as I did and you will quickly agree. However, don't take the 3 years I did doing it as I am sure this price won't be there for long. Happy Shopping :)
EDITED TO ADD: 03/14/10 I have now received my second set of this great China giving me a total service for 16. I am still in awe with the fine beautiful platinum detail and also with the price. I have invested five hundred dollars in what would have cost me more than two thousand had I bought retail. If you're looking for a set of China, this is undoubtably the deal of all deals. Now it's time to entertain !

(More customer reviews)Bought these because I needed something after I took a 3 month temp job and didn't want to move a lot of stuff. The knives are nicely balanced, but heavy - if you like a light weight set these are not for you. Their ability to remain sharp is in question - I have to use the steel pretty much every other use. In fairness- this is their recommended interval on the instructions but it would seem that they should hold an edge for longer than that. Two disappointments - they stain easily and often, tomatoes leave a noticeable stain that takes some work with a scouring pad to remove. Unless you wipe them immediately after use it will leave a mark. I haven't put them in the dishwasher - they're always hand cleaned but I'd be really reluctant to try the dishwasher after the staining issues I've had in normal use. The second is that although they're touted as being made from "Genuine Solingen Steel" (it was printed on at least one of the packages) they're in fact made in China.

(More customer reviews)I have been doing a lot of research on KitchenAid Mixers. Below is some information I felt may be of use to others trying to decide on a new KitchenAid Mixer.
If you have questions regarding a KitchenAid Mixer or other KitchenAid product, the KitchenAid Forums are a good place to start. The questions are answered by users and KitchenAid Employees. KitchenAid Employees will have "KitchenAid" in front of their name ex. "KitchenAid_Sally"
To find the forums go to the KitchenAid Website, select "Customer Service" at the top, then select "Join KitchenAid Conversations" at the bottom of the page, then select "View all topics". There is a forum just for Stand Mixers. You can also try this address: forum.kitchenaid.com. You will find instructional videos and information on model numbers, accessories, features, adjustments, etc. There are user tips and recipes too. You must sign up for the forums to submit a question.
Is a standard model like the Artisan all I need?
The Artisan is good for basic mixing jobs (light bread doughs, single batches, etc). It is also easier to move around and store in a cabinet due to its size compared to a pro model. So, if you don't plan on doing any mixing beyond the basics in single batches and or need something compact that can be more easily moved around, the Artisan may be a good choice.

Why Go Pro?

The pro models have bigger motors, all-steel gears, and a more durable build that can handle large (double +) batches, heavy bread doughs, and certain attachments that could cause non-pro models to bog down and overheat while mixing or strip their plastic gears. The PowerKnead(tm) spiral dough hook is not recommended for non-pro models. The "Heavy Duty" features of the pro models do add some extra weight and noise. The pro models are bowl-lift which means the bowl moves up and down, but the mix head is fixed. This can be an advantage if you leave the mixer on the counter under a cabinet. The mixer can be operated from where you place it. A tilt-head may not have enough clearance when tilted up, and it might be more difficult to operate without moving the mixer.
What's the difference? Pro HD, Pro 5+ and Pro 600
The differece between the KG25 (Professional HD) and the similar KV25 (Professional 5 Plus Series), is basically just the mixing bowl design. The KG25 has a narrower and taller bowl then the KV25. The KV25 has the newer wide bowl design which is the same width as the 6qt bowl on the Pro 600 just not as deep. Other then that, there is not much difference. The Pro 600 is the Pro 5+ with a bigger motor and bowl. The Pro 600 and Pro 5 plus can even share bowls. They all share internal parts, so they should be equal as far as build quality. For more parts info, you can go to PartSelect and lookup Whirpool model KG25H-4 (Kitchenaid is a division of Whirlpool). Many of the parts are cross referenced as the same parts for the 5 plus, Pro HD and Pro 600. The site also provides the service schematics.
Personal Choice
I originally ordered the RKG25H0XWH, but I then decided on the Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RKV25G0XWW Professional 5 Plus Bowl Lift Stand Mixer, White on White for an extra $40. Basically I chose the KV25 for the wider bowl, a little broader selection of attachments, and the ability to use the 6qt bowl from the Pro 600. KA has released a 3qt bowl and whip combo(KN3CW)that fits the KG25/KV25/Pro600 - Note: this item is currently only available through William Sonoma. When I got mine I had to ask for it. There was no display in the store. Do a search for "combi" to find it on the website. The KG25 CAN NOT use the 5 or 6 quart bowls that fit the KV25 and Pro600.

(More customer reviews)When first advised to buy Henckels by a friend and culinary aficionado, I hesitated; $200+ for a set of knives? But after purchasing this 7-piece Henckels set, I was pleasantly surprised. There are excellent knives and definitely worth the money.
I would advise you go to a store that carries most of the Henckels knife series before you purchase online. While I recommend all of Henckels' forged blades, the handles are key; there are at least 4 handle types, each with personal pro/cons depending on your hand shape and size. The four-star handles are mid-size poly; the five-star handles are similar but a bit larger and more ergonomic. Henckels also makes a "classic" handle, both in poly and wood, and also an all-metal handle.

Perhaps because I don't use them every day my opinion is different. They look great and serve my only purpose, which is to display food at the dinner table and at the occasional dinner party. I have had no problems with the entertainment pieces. I take really good care of them knowing they are somewhat fragile. I bought them because they truly look beautiful and knew ahead of time they would be used occasionally.

KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan Review

(More customer reviews)I was very excited to see that several silicone items were being made by kitchen-aid, given their product history. I used to work in the food industry and silicone baking mats were indespensible to us. However, this is NOT the same stuff. As the other reviewer said, it produces a rubbery smell when baking (not appetizing, and not like commercial silicone mats) AND my muffins stuck to the pan like glue. If I have to use nonstick spray to prevent sticking, I'll just use my old metal muffin tin.
Unfortunately I waited til more than 30 days after I purchased it to give it a try, and now I can't even return it. At least it was cheap when I bought it.
If you want some silicone bakeware stick to silpat or matfer baking mats for now. They are great. As for formed bakeware, don't purchase these.
I give the product 2 stars because it makes items in a muffin shape but doesn't live up to product claims of non-stick, and beacause of the icky smell it makes.
