Summary: Tinie Tempah | #1 Source For Tinie Tempah

Tinie Tempah is lying to
our face. But we forgive him, though.
"I'm just a regular guy,"
the prodigious Brit award-winning London MC tells Spinner, smiling
broadly in a pair of Wayfarer shades and a carefully selected
leather jacket. "Life has been pretty cool, life has been pretty
alright. I grew up with my mum and dad, enjoyed school -- didn't
really mind it, had loads of friends and all that. I just think
that there's that kind of ordinary person who's been missing within
hip-hop."
Actually, there have been
lots of average guys in hip-hop, none of them as verbally dexterous
-- or as commercially savvy -- as the 22-year-old Tempah. The UK
already knows how exceptional he is; Tempah's debut album,
'Disc-Overy,' came out last fall there and debuted at No. 1, as did
his addictively tuneful singles 'Pass Out' and 'Written in the
Stars.' With 'Disc-Overy' finally dropping in North America this
week, Tempah is already seeing more success than the vast majority
of British musical exports.
Like a number of other
south London rappers who blazed the trail Tinie Tempah's been on,
he got his start on the grime circuit. "I definitely did quite a
few raves. A lot of it was like pirate radio stations as well, so,
we were just really on the circuit, like grime side. It was like a
really small, local thing; a lot of the same nights and local radio
stations everybody would go to. I would just make sure that I was
in attendance, and did a couple young-man-standing things like
that."
'Disc-Overy' is much more
accessible and radio-friendly than most of what had been dubbed
grime, at least until first-wavers Dizzee
Rascal and Wiley broke through
to the pop mainstream; Tempah declines to put a genre stamp on his
music -- though it's basically hip-hop with a decidedly
pop-friendly bent.
Hooks are everywhere,
from his club-friendly collab with Swedish House
Mafia, 'Miami 2 Ibiza' to the
chilled out, nostalgic 'Snap' where Tempah dazzles with a light
touch and an ear for detail: "There's some we frame, and then
there's some we crop... I had a thousand free minutes til they cut
me off/Talking to this chick who used to love me up." And it
doesn't hurt that he eschews most of the yardie patois and slang
that has kept many a talented Brit rapper from breaking in
America.

Snoop
Dogg has revealed he's a fan of British rap music and wants to
pass on some pearls of wisdom to BRIT award winning rapper Tinie
Tempah.
The
Doggfather, who is currently promoting his new album
'Doggumentary', told Digital Spy that Tempah is
"on the right track" but could be "extra special" once The 'Pass
Out' star listens to his advice.
Snoop said:
"I think he's on the right track. The best way to prove it is to
continue to make hit records and have a properous career where you
have to be able to go down and come back up. It's not about the
success, it's about being able to fail and then bounce
back."
Although
Snoop and 'Wonderman' rapper Tempah have not met up yet, the
'Drop It Like It's Hot' rapper added: "His career is rolling real
fast the right now. When you're flying high you don't have time to
stop and talk. When our paths do cross, it'll be
worthwhile."

Plus the girls love him - he's a pretty swagged-out

Tempah has
announced that he's working on a clothing line. The 22-year-old –
who made noise in the U.K. with his award-winning debut album
'Disc-Overy,' which makes its way to the States on May 3 --
revealed his plans to launch a line during an interview on London
radio show KISS 100.
"We're
working on our own brand but I really want to stay away from that
whole hip-hop cliche –- 'he's a rapper turned fashion designer,
turned actor turned property developer," Tempah explained on 'The
Breakfast Show.' "I want people to walk into a shop and not
immediately think 'Tinie Tempah,' but think 'that's a nice shirt'
or 'that's a nice tee."
As
for a particular look, the 'Pass Out' rapper admits that he's been
inspired by some of his hometown faves, including Folk, Casely
Hayford or House of Billiam, but don't look for Tempah to put his
name on any gimmicks or fly-by-night trends. "I'm not really a
trend guy, I just wear what I feel like. I've got tons of denim and
a big blazer collection. I have a bit of an obsession with
trainers, and, of course, I love bow ties.'

Tinie Tempah Brit Awards 2011
|
Rapper
Tinie Tempah has been getting praise from other musicians after his
rapid rise to success and double Brit win.
One
artist who commented on his success was Chipmunk. Like Tempah, he
began on the underground music scene.
The
20-year-old said: "We go way back, me and him. We made our first
song together when I was 14 so it's like I know the journey you
know?
"Some
of you may just know him from Pass Out, but the guy has worked so
hard".
Tinie's
single, Pass Out, won the Brit for best single at this year's
ceremony and he also scooped the award for best breakthrough
act.
Joking
about his success, the 22-year-old rapper said he was in talks with
the council at his home in Plumstead about a statue in honour of
him.

Tempah - real name
Patrick Okogwu - won two awards, British breakthrough act and best
British single for his debut Pass Out, after being nominated for
four. He told the Standard: "I'm with my mum and dad tonight and
I'm just trying to keep my feet on the ground.
"I've seen so many
artists come and go, but my parents have always told me to work
hard, focus, keep my head down and make the best music I possibly
can. The rest of it - the fame, the money, the girls - that will
all come on its own. But it's important for me that they are here
to keep me grounded."
The ceremony was held at
the O2 for the first time this year, with EMI and Warner Brothers
hiring boats to resolve the problem for after-parties posed by the
remote Greenwich location.
Tempah was joined on board by rapper Professor Green and singer
Eliza Doolittle, while the Universal Music party at the Savoy
hotel attracted guests including Take That, Paloma Faith, Brits
host James Corden and Cheryl Cole. Faith, who closed the show
with a performance of Forget You with American star Cee Lo Green,
said: "I was so nervous. That was the biggest thing I've ever
done."
However, while those
inside the O2 enjoyed the collaboration, 150 youngsters who camped
out to catch a glimpse of their pop idols were left disappointed
after changes to the ceremony's set-up meant there was no red
carpet outside the venue.
Rawnie Chapman, 18, from
Manchester, spent £65 on train fares and got up at 4am to reach the
arena at 7.15am, only to be told three hours later that waiting
fans would not be able to stay. Her father Paul said: "If she had
known it was not going to happen she would not have bothered
coming. There was lots of screaming and lots of disappointed
people."

The star-studded show at London's O2 Arena was hosted by comedian
James Corden and kicked off by Take That who performed their new
single Kidz.
Organisers had promised change this year with a new venue, new
statues designed by Vivienne Westwood and a new show format making
more time for music.
Plan B, real name Ben Drew, was crowned Best Male Solo Artist and
his performance was on fire - quite literally with a burning man
stunt.
Tinie Tempah, who had four nominations, did not disappoint, winning
Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single for Pass Out.
The 22-year-old rapper told the crowd: "I want to big up God and my
family for sticking by me when times are hard."
Canadian group Arcade Fire won Best International Album for their
record The Suburbs and they also picked up Best International
Group.
It came afterr they won the coveted best album award at the
Grammies.
Essex girl Jessie J gave a tearful speech as she accepted the
Critics' Choice award.
Speaking later backstage, she said: "Pop stands for popular. I want
to be a pop icon and take Britain across the world."
Teen sensation Justin Bieber collected the Best International
Breakthrough Act and Laura Marling the Best British Female Solo
Artist gong.
Rihanna, who also performed a medley of her songs, was presented
with the Best International Female award by Cheryl Cole which she
dedicated to her mum.
Cee Lo Green, whose duet with Paloma Faith was the final
performance of the night, was honoured with the Best International
Male Solo Artist award.
Other performers included Adele and Arcade Fire.
The folk-pop group Mumford and Sons walked away with what James
Corden called the "biggest award of the night" - Best British Album
- for their debut record Sigh No More.
They are the band that has made banjos cool. Since being nominated
for the Mercury Prize last year they have sold thousands of albums,
but their stunned faces proved they never expected to win this one.
Industry veterans Take That proved they have still got what it
takes, winning Best British Group after nearly 20 years in the
charts.
They were given a standing ovation as they picked up the statue.
Accepting the award, band member Mark Owen gestured to Robbie
Williams saying: "Can I say thanks for coming back mate. Appreciate
it.
"It's a real pleasure for the five of us to be up here."
