This is the story from the guy, who worked as an admin at
school.
Most large scale companies and well established school systems use
a filter service that uses the filter definitions. At that school
they use Lightspeed. Lightspeed installes a server that filters all
traffic from the internet into the school's network. Every day
Lightspeed downloads the sites addresses their customers have
blocked by hand, process that definitions by their proprietary
algorithms and serve out a new list of definitions. Additionally,
Lightspeed spiders are also crawling the web and assigning
categories based on content, keywords, and server owner, as well as
other factors. Lightspeed (the service) also uploads the defintions
to the local filtering server which are then joined to our local
filter. Most proxy websites are categorized under proxy/security.
That ones that the filter hasn't caught, admins get from the
students by walking around and looking at the screens. :)
Even more, filtering servers can also filter web sites through
keywords and redirects. If anyone try to search the term "proxy"
the filter blocks that search query. When students type the
myspace.com, the filter automatically redirect to yahoo.com. I
suppose most enterprise-level filters act in the same way.

Proxy websites become popular nowadays. They are great tools to
make you invisible while browsing the web.
Proxy websites are also useful when accessing the Internet on
public computers. Proxies help you to browse the Internet without
being blocked or traced by software that restrict the use of the
web.
Proxy websites will help to protect your computer by not giving
your private information such as IP address away to third parties.
Instead of using the one from the user, it will use the its own IP
address to request the service from the websites you are browsing.
You will also keep the privacy in your local computer since proxy
website will hide all the websites addresses you have been browsing
through the proxy. All you need is to enable url encryption
feature. No one who might have access to your computer will know
what sites you have visited. To increase security of your internet
browsing, please use different proxy websites for each session.

Some firewalls block websites only by name. There is a way to
unblock websites by using IP addresses.
First, try the website. Type in the website url you want to go to
and if that doesnt work, try these options.
1. Use the IP address of a website instead of text name. To get the
ip address of a website just go to Start > Run (or just pres
[Win] + R), type 'cmd' then type ping [desired website name].
Example: ping myspace.com
Write down the IP address. Example: 216.178.38.116
2. Open web browser and enter http:// your IP address.
Example: http://216.178.38.116
If you are not succeed, try a little more complicated
solution...
3. Open up the Microsoft calculator and go into scientific
mode.
4. Look at the first number of the ip (216) and on the calculator
make sure Dec is checked. Type in 216 then hit Hex. A number should
show up D8. Write down the number as 0xd8 on notepad.
5. Repeat it for each number in the ip adress.
Example: 216.178.38.116 would be converted to
0xd8.0xb2.0x26.0x74
6. Go to the your browser and put http:// then the number
Example: to get to myspace.com it would be
http://0xd8.0xb2.0x26.0x74

Proxy websites are extremely popular nowadays. Proxies increase
your anonymity online. They also help to bypass internet
restrictions when you need it.
Proxy websites allow us to access any site we want without leaving
any traces behind. Surfing anonymously is not a crime - it is our
right, as we want to communicate with friends and colleagues
freely, making use of the unlimited possibilities of the
internet.
There are hundreds of proxy websites online, serving more than one
million users daily. If you want to find one of these websites -
just visit one of the major search engines and type school proxy or
proxy unblocker or anything else, keep experimenting. You will find
lots of proxy sites, which are easy to use, even if you are not an
advanced internet user.

Trying to reach your favourite website from school but it's
blocked? Luckily there are ways to bypass school firewall and
unblock websites. The easiest way to unblock Myspace, Facebook or
whatever you want is to use a proxy server.
What do school proxies do?
A proxy server works like gateway between your school computer and
the website you want to access to. The proxy server visits website
you entered, then download it and transmit content to your
computer. By using proxy website you are surfing the web
indirectly. School firewall sees like you just browsing one website
(proxy) so you stay unblocked.
Tips for using proxies at school
It's best to use new proxy websites. Popular proxy websites get
blocked by school firewalls. Proxy lists get blocked too. Often
school firewalls block the word proxy in web site addresses so I
suggest you to use proxies that don't have word 'proxy' in their
names. Other way to unblock websites is by making your own proxy.
This is not easy way but it pays off. Just search google for
guides. Some other ways to bypass school firewalls are by using
Google Translator or Google's cached version of the web site. These
tricks don't always help you to unblock Myspace or Facebook but
sometimes they're quite useful. To unblock Myspace I suggest you to
use regular type web proxies though.

If you access the internet from your school or public library, you
have probably already realized that many popular web sites have
been blocked. Here I show you how to access such sites by using
Google translation service.
The idea is simple. Google translation service works similar to
proxy server between blocked website and your school computer. The
problem is that we don’t want pages to be translated. To bypass
this problem we need to assign wrong language to translate from.
You know, the translation service does not translate unknown words.
Translator leaves unknown words as they are. Look at the example
code below. Just change myspace.com to url of the site you want to
visit.
http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=ar|en&u=www.myspace.com

Hello everybody. Today I'm gonna tell you how to use Google App as
your school proxy server.
Almost a year ago Google had officially announced Google App
Engine.
Google App Engine allows you to run your own web applications on
Google's servers.
It costs nothing to get started. Free account allowed to use up to
500 MB of server space and enough CPU and bandwidth to serve around
5 million page views a month. You can also use a free domain name
on the appspot.com domain, or use Google Apps from your own
domain.
App Engine provides a runtime environment that uses the Python
programming language.
I'm not surprised, that some guys had written proxy server scripts
to run on Google App Engine. You can find them on the web.
Mirrorrr(mirrorrr.appspot.com) and Gappproxy(mostly being used in
China) are good examples. They are open-source, so you can even
download and setup your own proxy server. I doubt your school
firewalls block Google App. So I assume this is one more way to
unblock websites at school.

Proxy web sites or proxies are generally used for anonymous
browsing and bypassing network restrictions. There are number of
free web proxy scripts to build such websites. The most commonly
used proxy scripts are Glype, PHProxy, Surrogafier, Zelune and CGI
Proxy. Let's take a closer look at them:
Glype
Glype proxy is a free proxy script written in PHP. As on official
website the benefits for its users are:
-
- server-side caching to improve speed for the end user
-
- javascript support allows more sites to be browsed without
loss of functionality
-
- unique URLs provide greater privacy- once your session
expires, any URLs stored in your history are invalidated
-
- virtual browser lets you choose your own user-agent and
referrer, and even tunnel the connection through another proxy
server
-
Have to say that Glype is the most popular PHP script for making
web proxies now.
Large community and plugin based architecture allow to quickly
integrate site-specific code for sites unsupported by the base
proxy script.
PHProxy
PHProxy was popular a couple of years ago. But as of September
2007, this project is no longer under development.
The author abandoned this project and gave up the source code.
There are several versions released after that but the project is
dead.
Surrogafier
Surrogafier is a three tier web proxy written in PHP. It was not
widely distributed
Pros:
Can remove cookies, HTTP referer, HTTP user-agent, on page java
scripts, and objects; proxy tunneling, i.e. creating chains of
proxies for extra security.
Cons:
AJAX applications might have problems with Surrogafier
SSL connection through Surrogafier is not secure (as stated on the
official website)
Seems like it's not supported any more. The last release was on May
2007.
Zelune
Looks like Zelune is not supported either. The official web site
says:
'Well we have now decided to put the new phphantom proxy script and
the best bits of the zelune scripts together to makeTHE BEST PROXY
NETWORK SCRIPT THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN...'
but PHPhantom website seems a bit confusing
Our company offers a virtually unlimited list of capabilities
because of our vast corporate networking. Within our alliance are
companies of all sizes. When it comes to our business, we offer our
customers a powerful resource and a recipe for success.
I hope they'll change default template's text soon.
CGI Proxy
The CGI proxy script written in Perl and acts as an HTTP or FTP
proxy. It is very simple to install, and very configurable.
The features include text-only support (saving bandwidth),
selective cookie and script removal, simple ad filtering, access
restriction by server, URLs and cookies encoding, and more.
But there are officially stated limits and bugs:
-
- Anonymity MAY NOT BE PERFECT! In particular, there may be
some holes where JavaScript can slip through.
-
- If you browse to many sites with cookies, CGIProxy may drop
some.
-
- There are violations of the HTTP protocol.
-
- Only HTTP and FTP are supported so far.
-
CGI proxy script more compatible with websites, runs faster, uses
less bandwidth, easier to enhance. The only disadvantage is the
resource usage. CGI proxies use a lot of server CPU and RAM, so not
all hosting services allow them.

Thousands of web proxies are blocked at school and work every
day.
It is best to know how to find new proxies.
You can find proxy servers at proxy topsites. Proxy owners create
new proxies every day as they are aware that their proxy has become
blocked. They submit these proxies to the topsites. This helps both
them and you. You can find hundreds of web proxies to use on the
topsites. You will be able to unblock MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, and
most blocked sites.
Unfortunately most of topsites are blocked too. But you could use
search engines. They can't block google ;) All you need is to enter
something like 'unblock myspace', or 'school proxy'. The google
gives you tons of links.

Hello guys. This is Nick, the
School proxy
owner.
I've found very interesting video video on how to unblock command
prompt and access blocked sites. The basic idea is to find out IP
address for the blocked website and enter it instead of the URL.
This trick works if the firewall does not block websites by IP.
You can watch the video on youtube:

Some people think the
Tor is secure but some do not.
The article in wikipedia testifies the following weaknesses:
DNS leaks,
Traffic analysis,
Eavesdropping by exit nodes
Lets see the last one:
In September 2007, Dan Egerstad, a Swedish security consultant,
revealed that by operating and monitoring Tor exit nodes he had
intercepted usernames and passwords for a large number of email
accounts. As Tor does not, and by design cannot, encrypt the
traffic between an exit node and the target server, any exit node
is in a position to capture any traffic passing through it which
does not use end-to-end encryption, e.g. SSL. While this does not
inherently violate the anonymity of the source, it affords added
opportunities for data interception by self-selected third
parties, greatly increasing the risk of exposure of sensitive
data by users who are careless or who mistake Tor's anonymity for
security.
This weakness can't be fixed because of Tor's design.

How to bypass your school proxy
Internet in fact is biggest source of information nowadays. But the
freedom of browsing is often ceased in schools and workplaces. The
network administrators there block such a sites and the students
and workers can't access many sites. But in certain situations, we
want to cross the limit. One of the ways is to use web proxy
server. With a proxy, you can visit a blocked site with the
impression that you are visiting another site which is not blocked.
But there's a catch. Your network administrators know that you're
using proxys, so they start blocking those proxies too. The only
way to bypass internet filter is to use new as the old ones got
blocked. So here you are. This site provide you with new web
proxiess ho help you to bypass internet filters. Just subscribe the
newsletter to receive new proxies by e-mail.

There are two different types of proxy. One involves installing
special software or changing configuration on your PC. The other is
just visiting the special website and putting in the address you
wish to visit.
A proxy is a way for you to get privacy and to view internet sites
that are blocked on your school, work place, or even the library
network. When you use a proxy, all the information is transferred
through it. In fact most of the schools, workplaces and libraries
do not allow you to install special software on their computers. So
I recomend you to use web-based proxies. Just check out search
engines to find them.

If your work or school has use filtering to prevent people from
visiting certain websites - a proxy server is a way to get around
such restrictions. Proxy server works by acting as a "middle man" -
first it download the requested page itself, then proxy server
sends you downloaded page, all images and other objects, thus
bypassing any filters or firewalls. This is good alternative for
students to bypass school firewalls or filters to access such
popular sites as MySpace or Bebo. Most anonymous proxy servers use
open source web scripts, such as PHProxy or Glype or Zelune, which
are indeed excellent proxy software.
