(More customer
reviews)After seeing a few complaints about this drive,
I looked into it further and found that most of the complaints are
without merit.
1 - You are buying a NETWORK DRIVE - these are not compatible with
Leopard's Time Machine feature, this is because Time Machine does
not support network drives. (Hopefully this will change in the near
future.)
2 - The USB connection is really allow you to connect in a pinch,
when you have no access to a router. It is not intended to connect
and be formatted as a regular USB drive. If you need a local USB
drive, get one, its cheaper than this one.
3 - Speed. The only way to get a faster than this, is to dedicate a
computer to serving files, Install Mac OS X Server, that would be
faster than the embedded server in this device, but at how much
more power & cost?
I actually ran a speed comparison with my Mac Mini that is
currently running Leopard -- file transfer were nearly the same,
albeit the Mac Mini has a laptop drive in it, but it has a full
scale G4 processor in it, far more power than the embedded
processor in the LaCie drive
The Good Stuff:
1 - This is one of the few NAS drives that supports AFP directly.
This is the feature I was waiting for, in order to go NAS. All of
the Apple metadata gets stored without loss, Very Very good! I hate
having to use an SMB connection to a FAT32 filesystem. That is not
Mac, and will never replace AFP.
2. When I installed the drive, I plugged it into my router, opened
Safari and opened its web page from the Bonjour list. After setting
up all my users and shared, I then popped the CD into my computer
to read the manual.
3. This drive does not require additional software on your
computer, if your computer can connect to a router, it will talk to
this drive.
4. The drive can be expanded, you can plug an additional USB drive
into it, that drive then becomes shared also.
The Bad Stuff:
1. The web administration interface is slow, but since I don't plan
on administering the drive every day, I don't think its a real
drawback.
2. The drive never seems to spin down. Some people like this
because its instantly available at a moment's notice, I personally
would prefer it to to have a user adjustable sleep timer, to save
energy and have less wear on the drive mechanism.
Overall:
Like the LaCie drives I've used in the past, Its in a metal case,
it feels solid, and it works well, and its made in the USA!
Also LaCie supports the Mac, as a forethought, not an
afterthought.

(More customer

long battery life.
I had to send it back because the keyboard had some keys that did
not work. So now I am waiting on a replacement, had to wait a while
to get it so so kind of a bummer.
pros:
- battery life was as promised, 5-7 hours depending on what you
do.
- way faster than my old N280 netbook (others report passmark of
891).
- variable speed fan runs a lot but is quiet even at some of the
midrange speeds. The targus (10") netbook chill mat fits it nicely.
Has vents on the bottom so a netbook cooler helps.
- Memory and HD doors on the bottom, this is a big plus for me. HD
easy to change, be sure to undo the ribbon cable connector before
lifting the HD out.
- Win7 reports 3999 Mb of total RAM (pretty good).
- BIOS can boot from USB devices (needed for emergency
recovery).
cons:
- build quality seems a bit low, guess I am used to business model
Dell's.
- screen flickers slightly, as if the brightness setting is
unstable, but is otherwise crisp and bright.
- keyboard didn't work on my unit, feels cheap like my netbook
did.
fyi:
- Comes with a 12Gb recovery partition, it prompts you to burn
recovery DVD's, have to buy a USB dvd. You can order recovery Dvd's
from Acer's support website. They appear to be bootable DVD's but I
did not try them. Documentation says restoring from the DVD's does
not remake the recovery partition, but preserves it if it is
there.
- comes with a cloth sleeve, buy a better case if you want
protection.
The price is right so no complaints if it works.

documents, pictures, songs, or websites you turn to each day. To
open a Jump List, just right-click a program icon on the Windows 7
taskbar. (You'll also find them on the Start menu.) What you see in
a Jump List depends entirely on the program. The Jump List for
Internet Explorer 8 shows frequently-viewed websites. Windows Media
Player 12 lists commonly-played tunes. Your Jump List missing a
favorite? You can "pin" whatever files you like there. Jump Lists
don't just show shortcuts to files. Sometimes they also provide
quick access to commands for things like composing new e‑mail
messages or playing music.
Improved Windows Taskbar In Windows 7 you can "pin" favorite
programs anywhere on the taskbar for easy access. Not crazy about
the icon lineup? Now you can rearrange them any way you like by
clicking and dragging. Finally, there are new ways to preview
windows. Point to a taskbar icon to see a thumbnail preview of open
files or programs. Then, move your mouse over a thumbnail to
preview the window full-screen. You can even close windows from the
thumbnail previews--a big time saver.
Snap Ever need to cut through a cluttered desktop and quickly focus
on a single window? Just click a pane and give your mouse a shake.
Every open window except that one instantly disappears. Jiggle
again--and your windows are back.
Energy Efficient Intel Core 2 Duo ULV Processor Offering the latest
in ultra-low voltage processing power, the dual-core Intel Core 2
Duo SU7300 has a has a power consumption rating of just 10 watts
and a 1.3 GHz speed that's paired with a fast 800 MHz front-side
bus (FSB) and 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache
temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up
your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and
RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall
performance.)
The Multi-Gestured Acer Timeline
Extended Battery Life via Low Power Components and Acer's
PowerSmart Adapter While most notebooks with long battery life use
higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook,
Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard
high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as
small as possible.
In addition, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is
unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling
power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full. The PowerSmart
adapter saves 1752 watts of energy a year--equivalent to lighting a
15-watt (65W equivalent) light bulb for 116 days.

(More customer

loyal customer for Asus and this is my first Gigabyte one. I liked
the features and the design. Within its category of entry MB, the
features set was great, only missed a Firewire connector. The BIOS
is very straight forward, however setting the RAM timings was very
weird. At the begining I thought this was not possible, I looked
around in the manual but could not find something to tell me how?
May be it was my bad reading. Then I read a review that mentioned
how to do this (just hit Ctrl-F1). Otherwise I am glade to use this
MB.

(More customer
reviews)I recently (yesterday) rebuilt my computer. My
old MOBO was an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe with a 3.6 Pentium 4. I put
this MOBO in with an AMD 4000+. I have yet to try and stress out my
dual PCIe eVGA NVidia 6800GT's in the SLI configuration yet, but
the board and processer seem to work together extremely well. This
MOBO has connectors for everything. For example, there are twice as
many USB connecters on the MOBO than on my old one. Very handy for
me as I have lots of USB devices.
I will warn you to buy an up-to-date ATX power supply like my 500w
Rosewill RE502. This MOBO really needs a LOT of power. Not as much
for the motherboard itself, but when you run 2 high-end SLI enabled
video cards and 3 SATA hard drives in a RAID 5 configuration,
you'll need not only abundant power, but the octopus of connecters
that the devices need. Sure you can buy adapters, but upgrading a
20 pin to 24 pin MOBO connecter and a handful of other adapters can
almost equal the price of the new power supply.
What's that you say...you aren't going to be running multiple GPU's
and hard drives??? Why are you buying this MOBO then??

purchased this because of the MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)in BIOS
in suppport of the Quad Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz and
up to DDR2 1200 MHz memory modules and the Ultra Durable 3
technology. Currently running CPU at 3.4+ GHz w/ no voltage
increase and no heat problems using AMD supplied H/S and fan. I
normally buy ASUS boards for their excellent quality MOBO and crash
free bios recovery.
I initially had some problems OC CPU and DDR2 1066MHz RAM. Updated
the BIOS for current CPU ID updates. After update, OC proved to be
easy and very stable. One word of note, most DDR2 1066MHz RAM, in
my case (Corsair Dominator PC2-8500C5D 4GB Dual Channel)does not
default at that speed, you have to overclock RAM or set in BIOS to
reach that speed. JDEC specs auto default is 800MHz. EPP (enhanced
performance profile)specs needs to be set/enabled, to unclock the
1066MHz speed. I kept trying to set multiplier, voltage, and
timings w/o enabling the EPP specs mode in BIOS. Settings would
never hold and PC would constantly BSOD. Finally after reviewing
specs via the Easy Tune 6 window interface tweaker from Gigabyte
and CPU-Z ID, I recognized the EPP feature that needed to be
enabled. Set timings according to Corsair aggressive specs and PC
is flying now with room for expansion. If you increase the FSB
freq, this will increase memory speed over 1066 MHz. But doing this
will introduce more heat in the system. MOBO have proven to be very
reliable, runs cooler than other MOBOs, solid build. I think I just
became a Gigabyte fan.

Palm, and my Franklin Planner. It is very light and surpisingly
resilient. The wireless features are fabulous. It is a pain to have
to plug in the external CDRW/DVD drive I have (it has its own power
cord ...), but I use the drive rarely. A USB drive is great for
external strage and date transfer. The keyboard is full-size as far
as key-size, but condensed - Home, End, and Number Pad are Fn keys.
I am astounded by the accuracy with which my written notes are
converted to type. I love this thing - and it turns heads!

or DVD drive.

Electromagnetic Resonance (EMR) stylus for input onto the tablet
screen. The standard keyboard also includes 12 function keys, 4
cursor keys, and 5 easy launch buttons (Internet, email with LED,
wireless on/off, and 2 user-programmable buttons). It also has a
touchpad with 4-way Internet scroll key.
Sound and Graphics The 10.4-inch LCD offers 1024 x 768 native
resolution and it rotates to convert from notebook mode to tablet
mode. Video is powered by an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 card with 64
MB of video RAM. It also has an sound card that's integrated into
the main board, and offers built-in stereo speakers.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots This Travelmate C110 model has an
integrated 802.11g (or 54g) wireless LAN, which is quickly becoming
the most popular wireless standard and is compatible with 802.11b
connections as well. You get a smallish range of external
connections, including:
2 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from
digital cameras to MP3 players
1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) ports for connecting
digital video camcorders and other peripherals
1 VGA monitor port
1 fast infrared (FIR) port
1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type II)
1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
It also offers and integrated 56K modem (V.92) and an RJ-45 LAN
network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and
DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software The Travelmate C110 comes with the
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system. Other preloaded
software includes Norton AntiVirus 2003 and Adobe Acrobat
Reader.
Dimensions and Weight Measuring 8.5 x 10.1 x 1.2 inches (L x W x D)
and weighing just 3.2 pounds without any optional external drives,
the Travelmate C110 is amazingly light and portable--just what you
want out of a tablet PC.
Power It's powered by a 26 WHr rechargeable lithium-ion battery
pack, which features a 3-hour battery life, 1.5-hour rapid charge,

(More customer
reviews)I did a lot of researching before purchasing
this NAS.My only regret, 10 days between my purchase and Amazon had
dropped the price as new models have come out.
Coming back to the review, essentially NAS stands for Network
Attached Storage, which is what this model is as well. You map the
network drive after setting up ( its all so simple, i literally
only plugged in to my router and followed the steps in the Quick
Install Guide)
Features of this NAS are : File sharing, Download station,Torrent
engine, FTP, Blog, Photo blog, HTTP server and Network backup, USB
copy and tons more i might not even be able to write down, this
would be sooo lengthy.
Prime competitors to Synology are QNAP, Thecus, Netgears'
ReadyNAS
the reason i chose to go with synology is that their support forums
are very helpful, support ticketing system has a very quick turn
around time. And lastly their feature list is so exhaustive, i
havent even used many of them, and THAT being me working in IT
sector.
File sharing is done via File station 2 which is AJAX based drag
and drop upload site, you can create users/ groups which are very
much enforced if you need to create users with different access
level/ permission.
FTP, HTTP server and can be configured with MySQL database , its
almost a complete mini server;
that said i havent had any seen any noticeable flaws yet, Photo
station(picture album blog), File station are really simple.
Synology beats everyone out in their wonderful user friendly
UI(User Interface), which is why i choose them over QNAP, as not
everyone may feel the need for iSCSI etc.
If money is not a major concern, please do buy the higher end
double bay models it would be economical on the long run, as they
also pack more punch having extra RAM and CPU Clock, i like the
DS209 +II which just came out a month or so back.
Hope this helps you in deciding on your first NAS, always make sure
you backup all data, and the whole point of backing up is to NOT
just keep a single backup copy!
EDIT: looks like i am the first reviewer, although i can be sure
that there must have been others here who purchased synology
products,
Good luck in your NAS purchase,
Syed
***Update Feb 20 2010***
My DS109 Nas has been running awesome over the last months since
the purchase, i really love the audio station. The Download station
is fine, but i just dont get the same throughput of using a BT
client on a PC like Azureus or BitTornado.
Recently with the new DSM 2.2, Synology has added support for iSCSI
! wow, which is great feature that is present on most QNAP
devices. And, i gotta love this, Time machine support!
I had purchased a 13" macbook aluminum, and have used the time
machine feature of this NAS.It shows up as an airport drive, and
backups are a charm.
I am very tempted to buy some newer "black" models from synology
which are really fast and furious!I am currently looking to buy
another NAS, but after reading some reviews of Dlink's DNS 323/321
models i havent been happy.Synology really cuts the competition by
offering so many great features packed in one neat device.
***Update March 26 2010***
Apparently while browsing on Amazon, i have come to discover that
there is another synology NAS DS110J which is almost 100$ cheaper
than this DS109 but specs are the same.Maybe the one that i have is
almost a year + older.
**correction: there IS indeed a difference, DS109 has 1.2 GHZ ppc
processor, where as the DS110j has 800 MHz, depends on your needs
then i guess.
check this out:

So buy the DS110j if you are looking for 1 bay cheap synology
NAS

(More customer
reviews)I'm just writing this review because I believe
this product and the company are dealt with a bit unfair in other
reviews.
I just installed this device - I own a older Linkstation which
works without any problems for non-stop 3 years now - and I would
like to mention a few points. I also talked to Buffalo support
before buying it (which yes, has a long waiting time on the phone
but very compentent people, I believe, that answer at the end, and
got clarification on a few points.
The good:
+ fast, just copying 75 GB in around 90 minutes on a 100 MBit
network, and the speed is just fine
+ good looking, this device looks great
+ easy to install
The bad:
not much really
- if you enable the media server it reads/writes constantly, the
reason is it indexes the disk for new files all the time - buffalo
support is aware of this and will release a new firmware which
allows you to index manually with a button on demand, this is a
good solution for me
- no more bad, sorry ;-)
I find many of the reviews here a bit strange, lets talk about some
examples:
- Scanner does not work (well, ALL these devices dont support
Multifunction printers, because they technically can't, this is not
Buffalos fault
- I put a new firmware on my device and now it's broken - well,
apparently, earlier firmwares where different for the Pro and Live
model, if you put the wrong firmware on it can't boot anymore, is
this Buffalos fault??
- noisy hmmhh, mine is SUPER quiet - actually quieter than the old
modell, how quiet do you expect a harddisk to be??
- web interface slow, that's true and I find it a bit strange, but
how often are you changing parameters over the Web gui? It's a bit
strange, but only a very minor nuissance.
I get the feeling that many users buying a media server are a bit
novice at IT devices. Also because the PRO line gets better
reviews.
Anyway, I nearly would not have bought this device because of all
the bad reviews. But it would have been a mistake. I love it. It's
not expensive and I personally recommend it!
Hope this helps.

charged it. Afterwards, downloaded all the programs that I needed
to replace my four year old laptop. Talked to the internet company
to get that started (my fault b/c I forgot a step to set up). After
my set-up was done, I absolutely LOVE it!!!!
My soul purpose for the Timeline is writing. But I do need to carry
the laptop to different locations and interview clients. And this
"dream" laptop is a sure delight. The processing speed is quick for
what I do. Downloads are fast. And the biggest plus....this laptop
does not get HOT like my old one. So, I'm ditching the "lap"top
cooler! I'm free to roam.
The Battery life is outstanding! I surfed the web for over two
hours(unplugged from the ac adaptor) before I came to write this
review, my indicator is showwing 90%...8 hours left! WOW!!!
Granted, I did some tweaking to the display and power adjustments.
But still, 8 hours left after two hours of surfing the net....I
love this laptop!
Now the down side. If you're looking to webcam with this laptop,
you'll be disappointed. You need to be outside for the proper
lighting. Or you can have the lamp light your face if you're
indoors. I have adjusted the webcam to a certain degree, but still
the quality wasn't there. But like I mentioned before, the soul
purpose is for writing.
PRO: Lightweight, Battery life!
CONS: Webcam quality.
If anything should arise in the near future, I'll add it to my
review.
I highly suggest the Timeline X to everyone who is in my
position.
Addendum:
Someone asked for the Windows Experience Index:
Processor: Calculations Per Second..... 6.3
Mem(RAM): Memory Ops Per Second..... 5.9
Graphics: Desktop Performance for Win..4.7
Gaming Graphics: Performance.....4.9
Primary Hard Disk: Data transfer..... 5.9

(More customer

in stock, so I waited for Amazon to have it in stock before buying
- turned out to be the right decision. I bought another LCD tv last
year from "ButterflyPhoto", a seller on Amazon's website, and it
was a horrible experience. So I vowed never to buy a big ticket
item from any other seller than Amazon on its site. Those sellers
have such great reviews b/c if you get screwed like I did and the
sale never goes through, you can never rate them. So only happy
customers get to rate those sellers, hence the above-avg
reviews.
DELIVERY AND DEFECTIVE TV: I ordered the TV on a Thurs and it was
delivered to my house on Tues. Pilot (carrier) called to schedule
and appt, brought it into my house, took it out of the box and
placed it on my tv stand, then made sure it worked before asking me
to sign. But by Friday, a 1/2 cm black line appeared in the screen
(yikes!). On Sat. I called Amazon and they were great in shipping
out a replacement TV immediately at no extra cost to me (they even
gave me the option to replace with another make/model). The new TV
arrived the next Fri and Pilot packaged and removed the defective
TV. The new TV works fine (so far, fingers crossed). After
mentioning my ordeal to several friends, a few mentioned they had
defective LCD TVs also - so I guess its not so uncommon.
Dealing with Amazon is great. If I bought from those other sellers,
I would have been left to deal with Sony via the warranty - No
Thanks! Its worth the extra hundred dollars or so to go with
Amazon.
PICTURE QUALITY: The HD picture is amazing. I had a 2004 42' Sony
WEGA that produced 1080i, but the Bravia is a much, much better HD
picture (however, it seems Comcast broadcasts in 1080i, not 1080p).
When watching sports on my WEGA, the picture could not handle fast
action so well. The Bravia corrects this pretty well (via the
120hz) and there is definitely a noticable difference/improvement
versus my old WEGA. The 120hz is well worth the money.
BOTTOM LINE, at $1,823, I am happy with the TV even after the first
one was defective. I found the Samsung to be too glossy a picture
and didn't like the touch of red, so the 52v5100 was the perfect TV
for me at that price. Buy from Amazon, not those other
tricksters.

Sony BRAVIA V-Series
KDL-52V5100 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black
For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action
movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel
HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz
technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz
takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further
by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more
fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use
proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the
picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA
Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce
visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic
contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD
connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all
your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component
and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that
lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a
compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show.
Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn't stop with your HDTV,
which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA
Link Modules -- including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD
Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The
HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all
of your compatible devices with a single remote. And all BRAVIA
HDTVs exceed ENERGY STAR 3.0 requirements for in-use and stand-by
power consumption, meaning you don't need a lot of power to get a
lot of performance.

came in on August 11th. It did not work. I contacted Dell and they
told me I needed more memory, even though this computer should have
had enough memory. They refused to send it to me and I was forced
to purchase more memory on my own. The computer still did not work
correctly I was hit by Hurricane Charley and was without power for
a week, followed in six weeks' time by Hurricanes Frances, Ivan and
Jeanne. These hurricanes left me without power and internet
connection for a total of almost four weeks. When I finally got to
the point where I could deal with this computer again, I contacted
Dell to return it. They refused to allow me to return it because I
hadn't returned it within their 15-day time period. I explained
what happened with the hurricanes and they still refused to grant
an exception. I am now stuck with a computer that does not work.
Please do not purchase a Dell computer. You will have nothing but
headaches.

(More customer

far very excellent. Absolutely the best sound system I've heard on
a laptop.
A sound app is included and my iPod sounds great. I don't know
about battery life as of yet. The chiclet key board is far too
sensitive however I'll put up with it. We're traveling and it
connected well with the condos weak WiFi. My wifes 3 year old acer
laptop will NOT connect unless it's moved to the main office. Not
too sure about the e-Sata input, would have liked a fire wire
instead for my ext. HD, The USB-2 however works fine. I'll report
back as I learn this laptop.
Update Nov 06:
I loaded up Photoshop CS5 and so far it is a good performer. A core
monitor "Gadget" indicates that the dual core,(4 threads)i5
processor is loafing and waiting for the hard drive. Most likely
file swapping with the slow 5200 rpm hard drive. I'm wondering if a
7200 HD would help with the >30Mb image files I toss around in
Photoshop. Although with Win 7 64 bit and 4 gig of ram it should be
a screamer.

(More customer

out for internal USB devices, that adds like a second for each
device!!, features a-plenty. Only one 16x slot. Don't see the use
for the 1x, maybe audio. But this one's audio seems robust; excited
to try out the 10-channel. ExpressGate does NOT use wifi adapters -
didn't realize that one. Dual channel support - this means get your
RAM in pairs, and get all the same kind. The placement of the PCI
slot right next to the 16x is unfortunate; don't they know most
cards you'd want to use with it take 2 slots of space?
Total USB connectors is 12. That seems pretty generous. I don't get
the legacy support for LPT and COM, though they are internal.
Use the DVI/HDMI. I have not tried them yet but they are bound to
be better than the VGA, which is marred by interference. It's like
looking at a projection that's under a pool of water or something,
kind of. Faint wavy dark lines flit across at all times. And a
little blurrier than my laptop's VGA output!
The onboard graphics is surprisingly capable and of course silent.
Can play Braid (a very fill-rate intensive game) at 30fps if you
overclock your CPU a bit. You can even overclock the onboard DDR3
VRAM. If anyone knows how to enable some kind of hot-switching
between onboard and PCI-e leave a comment! Would be great to cut
down on noise while using audio programs and coding.
The overclocking on this board is extremely robust. I love how easy
it is. You can just tell it a percentage to overclock a component
and it can do it automatically.
All in all this board is awesome for a small gaming system. The
large heatsink I got fit very well and was easy enough to mount.
Keeping this thing cool is also helped by the fact that it does
adjust cpu speed and fan speed based on load and temp, like a good
laptop.
Overall, I am happy! Good quality, overclocking du'jour, generous
USB, and not-bad onboard graphics all make it a great buy at the
price. Legacy connectors, bad VGA and lack of hot-switching between
onboard and PCI-E graphics keep it from being a 5.

(More customer

edition. The PVT it gives says it is the stock XFX but the one I
got in the mail was the Alpha Dog.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 computer with the Q6600 and the 8600GT
graphics. I bought this as an "upgrade." First things first, I had
to upgrade my power supply from the stock 350watts to a 500watt
PSU. This graphics card has a power supply plug on the end of it.
The card is INCREDIBLY LONG ... So much so you better make sure you
have space for it if you have a small box. For the Dell Inspiron
530 - had to take out a hard drive to get it in the case.
Now for the actual review. I'm an Eve-Online player. I went from
170FPS (8600GT) to 410 FPS (8800GT) in station with Eve Classic. I
went from low 50 FPS (8600GT) to 210 FPS (8800GT) with Eve Premium.
Yeah, there is a HUGE difference... The graphics are so much better
than the 8600GT as well.
The downsides (reason for 4 stars): This card runs INCREDIBLY hot -
so hot I can't even touch it for a second. The card is upside down
in my case so it blows hot air to the bottom and just recirculates
it. I had to install a case fan and leave a PCI slot open to blow
the hot air out. I HAVE NOT had the card freeze but if you don't
have good case ventilation that might be an issue for you.
