(More customer reviews)I switched from coffee to tea a few months ago, purchased this unit and am completely happy with it ... I can't recommend it highly enough. It's well made, ergonomic, well thought out, and a joy to use. The Japanese think of everything. A Japanese friend of mine told me that homes in Japan almost always have one of these units, or one like it. Now that I drink only tea, I can understand why.
The three temperature settings (well, four if you count boiling) are perfect. 208 is good for herbal teas, tissanes, and also the increasingly popular (and wonderful) Rooibos. That's also a good temperature for ramen, oatmeal, etc. 195 is good for black tea and also oolong, and 175 is good for green tea or white tea. Now, you can make gourmet tea properly with no muss and no fuss. Just get yourself some gourmet loose tea, herbal tea, or Rooibos, (all available from Garrett, Adagio, or Teavana), and a convenient brewer, like "IngenuiTea" from Adagio (Teavana also makes a good one that might be slightly better in quality), and you will be good-to-go! Your taste buds will thank you and so will your body. (The health benefits of green tea and oolong are well-known, and also Rooibos has 30-50 times the antioxidants of green tea, and no caffeine). My blood pressure has dropped 20 points with less caffeine (compared to caffeine in coffee, black tea = 20-25%, oolong = 10-15%, green = 5-10%, white = 1%, rooibos and herbal = 0%).

The uncoated bottom exterior looked as though someone had scrubbed it with a Brillo pad. I honestly do not see how any competent quality control person could have approved this unit for shipment.

(More customer reviews)Bought this off Amazon a month or two ago. I was looking for an inexpensive pure sine wave inverter to replace my Duracell (Xantrex) modified sine wave inverter. I was expecting to have issues from the get go (due to the cheap price!) but this inverter is working out quite nicely. I have it hooked up to 4 Trojan T-105 batteries which is charged up with an 85 watt Kyocera solar panel and Xantrex C35 charge controller.
Being pure sine wave, I can run anything now that my old modified sine couldn't. No more annoying buzzing sounds from CFL's or TV's. certain appliances that wouldn't power up on the old inverter now work flawlessly. Some things I run on the Sunforce: Samsung 22" LCD TV, CFL's of all sizes, Playstation 2, battery chargers, laptops, electric cooler.
I haven't tripped the over current protection yet at all, not even when using items that typically surge, such as a large power drill.
No fan issues like the other review mentioned.. in fact I haven't heard it come on at all yet; then again it's winter time here in Missouri so I assume it truly is thermal controlled.
The remote keychain that was provided with the unit works great. Since I'm doing the electrical work on our new cabin, I can turn off and on when working on the electrical. Then turn it off when we leave for the week.
The only issue I've had so far is once I came back on the weekend and the inverter turned itself back on sometime during the week. This normally wouldn't be a big issue except we're limited on battery capacity and can be a nuisance if kept happening. This has only happened the one time so no biggie.
The LCD readout on the front of the inverter is a nice feature, more expensive inverters don't have this by default, though I rarely look at it.
I would like to determine how much power the inverter uses when it's powered on and in idle mode. The documentation doesn't mention this anywhere and would expect that would be a major selling point. (or, disadvantage if it's too much of a power draw). I don't have an amp meter to test what it is, if you find out please post a review.
The only other downsides is:
1) this inverter has no permanent mounting brackets. only rubber feet on the bottom. luckily the thick DC cabling keeps it well secured within the battery box.
2) the DC hookups are HAND TIGHTEN only. This can be an issue if you, like me, use the proper gauge wiring. in my case I'm using 6 gauge, which is actually borderline of being too small but the batteries are close by. I ended up using pliers to tighten the hand lugs. With thicker wiring, I imagine this would be a huge pain.
PROS:
inexpensive! I noticed the price just went up though :(

Keychain remote, I haven't seen any other inverters include this with the inverter itself
CONS:
no mounting brackets? I'm sure you could finagle some aluminum straps around it, instead.
hand tightened DC connections
no mention of idle power usage.

(More customer reviews)I have this pasta machine and just love it. To have success, you must follow directions when making the dough. If it is too dry or too wet it will not extrude properly. There are steps to correct the dough consistency. I flavor my pasta with different spices like saffron, dill, basil. Pasta flavored with Old Bay goes well with seafood, and Lemon Pepper is good with Chicken. Clean up is easy if you allow the dough to dry in the machine and disk. Then just wipe it out. I recommend handwashing the parts. The front looks like metal, but it is silver colored plastic. You can also use different types of flour to make the pasta: You can make your own whole wheat or gluten free pasta, or rice noodles, using rice flour. I recommend "The Pasta Machine Cookbook" for some wonderful recipes. I plan on making beef stroganoff and have either tagliatelle or pappardelle with it. If you follow directions you will get good results. You must also read the directions when you disassemble and reassemble the parts.

(More customer reviews)Nice and simple pot. Has six hour timer, however, would like to have a longer delay for the day use. Also, when using the timer, it always resets the final temperature to 190 degree. Would be nice if it can "remember" the previous temperature setting. The inner container is coated with floury charcoal, not teflon coating that any other brands offer. It claims to bring out the fine taste of water. To me, at least it looks better than the grey teflon coating. Another feature missing is it does not come with the audible alarm.
Extra spec that I would like to know before ordering:
Power: 700 Watt
Temp setting: 140, 180, 190, 208
No audible alarm for any events.
After all, I am happy with the pot for the price and the build quality. Not sure if I would pay extra $30+ for the fancy features Zojirushi brand offers.

(More customer reviews)I love to deep fry food using canola oil. It's actually healthier and more certain than pan frying, especially when dealing with food that needs to be cooked thoroughly before eating, like poultry and fish.
I have a small round fryer that does a good job but it's a NIGHTMARE to clean. The oil reservoir is gritty, so everything sticks to it very well - a major annoyance. It's also difficult to dump the oil without spilling.
Enter this deep fryer. So far I've got no complaints, it's very easy to fry the food, and the basket is a very nice touch that my old fryer doesn't have. One minor nitpick is the basket I just raved about; I wish it were more "mesh" than "fence". Meaning I wish the holes were a lot smaller, so it would act as an effective crumb catcher. That would make the unit a lot easier to clean, and I can see how that might get to be a problem in time. But again, it's a nitpick of mine.
Update 12/28: Ok, I've got complaints. First, the filtering is poor. It will leave the smell of fried-whatever all throughout your place. I've got an el-cheapo $40 fryer that I replaced with this, and the cheap one does a better job of containing that odor. I know this is like some industrial-type stuff so it's to be expected, but I can't keep buying Oust like this.
Secondly, I was right about wanting the mesh. I've fried a couple of times and already there's a nice brown coating on the bottom. IT bothers me, because if they just went with a mesh-style basket I wouldn't have this problem.
Third, it takes WAY too long to heat up. I'd say plan on about 10-15 minutes prep time. Hate to beat a dead horse, but el-cheapo was hot in a matter of 3-5 minutes tops.

(More customer reviews)Having grown up in a household with a hot water tap, I'm used to having near-boiling water available at all times - except on Shabbat, when, a rabbi told my mother, the tap could not be used (years later, a different rabbi, who had a different understanding of how the technology worked, told me it is permissible!). So once I was on my own, some sort of urn or electric pump pot was a must. I bought this one to replace an old one that died, and am pleasantly surprised by the new features, including the instant dispense button and switch (although they can't be used on Shabbat either, as they make a light go on, but you can still pump out water by pressing the original spot), and the concave front, which allows your cup or teapot to nestle up close. The price is right, the unit works, and my only concern is that I'll run out of water before Shabbat is over! In fact, I just bought another one as a Mother's Day gift and presented it today (now it can be told!).

(More customer reviews)I bought this after a fellow dorm student showed me how to use his steamer of another brand. I chose this one because of the design and the removable top shelf that allows you to cook larger items. I can get 2 chicken breast (boneless skinless) chicken breast for $3.00, a bag of baby carrots for $1.25 and a small bag of small red potatoes for $1.50.
I put the chicken in a bag or container and pour in my spices (I use Mrs. Dash because it's salt free and so flavorful) and mix it up until the chicken is coated. I let the chicken sit sometimes to soak up the spices better (usually overnight) but spicing before steaming is still great. I will put one breast in the middle of the bottom tier, surround it with carrots. I put the other breast on the top tier, surround it with red potatoes cut into quarters (leaving them whole works, but i like them cut to add seasoning) and in 25 minutes me and another person are having an awesome healthy meal.
Steaming is more effective at retaining the vitamins in your fruits and vegetables. I am telling you straight up, if you want to lose weight, buy this steamer, and try my recipe above. its a salt free dish that has so much natural flavorful hearty goodness that will not leave you hungry trust me.ive lost 30 lbs since august 2010 (its almost Halloween 2010) and most of my dinners have been similar to the above recipe, no salt, no butter or margarine, just natural spices and foods cooked using a natural, nutrient retention process.
