(More customer reviews)In my misspent youth (this was long before Ritalin), my skate-rat friends I would scavenge sheets of half-inch and ¾-inch plywood, pen 12- and 15-inch wide boards thereon, and get dead arms sawing them to life. The door-on-roller-skates ride, off-center truck holes, and bolted/nailed-on kicktails were no treat, but the Dogtown graphics we added were the point of the whole exercise.
Decades later, I had to buy a legit Dogtown wideboard, just to see what less incompetence might have wrought.
The circa-1978 Wes Humpston graphic gives a nod to the screaming chicken hood decal adorning Pontiac Trans Am hoods starting in 1973. On a board almost as big as a Trans Am hood, it works. Oh, and the artwork is better in person, and not just subtly.
The fluorescing fowl is flanked by big -- nay, huge -- wheel wells that go four plies deep. These reduce the odds of wheel bite (urethane-to-wood contact sometimes followed by face-to-concrete contact) and dial in a bit of what car designers call "surface excitement."
I've seen at least one claim that this board has a very slight concave, and maybe some examples do. Mine, however, is old-school flat from snubbed nose to the start of the squared-off tail.
The fairly standard 15.5-inch wheelbase offers a familiar balance between quickness and stability, making this slab o' maple maneuverable enough for street and park use, though you might find it a little wide for pools.
Ride quality is where all that wood underfoot becomes an unqualified advantage, damping bumps and vibrations better than those countless millions of identical popsicle stick decks. Set up with wide trucks (I use 215 mm Indies), risers, and tall, soft wheels (76 mm Kryptos; not for everyone), the ride is more Cadillac than Trans Am.

Skateboard bearings mount your wheels to the axle. Maintaining your bearings is essential to getting all that you can out of your board. All skateboard bearings are the same size. It takes 8 bearings to fully upgrade a board. Two bearings per wheel one on each side of it to keep it stable and to help prevent grinding on the axle. The industry standard size is 608 with an 8 mm bore, a 22 mm outer diameter and a width of 7mm. Bearings rated under the ABEC scale are typically called "precision bearings," and they are rated with a number from 1 to 9. Higher ratings are given to bearings manufactured against a higher standard of precision. A high number means tighter tolerances, higher quality and a more expensive bearing.

Ride like the pros with the fully loaded Mongoose MG102 Guitar skateboard. Outfitted with a nine-ply rock-hard maple deck, heavy-duty Mongoose cast-alloy trucks, and ABEC 3 carbon bearings, the board rolls smoothly on both city streets and at the park. The cool graphics package is what really stands out, however, with a freakish skeleton jamming on a Stratocaster. Other details include 51 by 36mm PVC wheels and black 80AB grip tape.
About Mongoose In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).
In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.
In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose’s brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

I bought this board and skated it very hard. Went down alot of hills and did ALOT of slides. The deck is super stiff and responsive, and the gear is top-notch. It's a real "professional" level long board. One note is that this board is a tall board, and you can get up curbs with the nose!
The end
After 3 months of skating it it began delaminating. The bottom layer of carbon fiber and fiberglass had started to separate from the wood. I took pictures and sent and email to Sector 9 and after 4 months, they sent me a new board! They sent me a new carbon decay deck.
You might as well get the Carbon Decay.
Another note is that the Trylam is VERY rare.
