California Gurls topped the BILLBOARD HOT 100 chart for 6 consecutive weeks & still could return to the summit. Plus track 2 is a remix of her 2008 #3 hit HOT N COLD. On top of that it's priced right at $1.99. A win win situation.

BJ has made so many really good b-sides or songs that never fit commersial cd's. So this is just collector item, if you gotta have all what is available. For example: Malaysian version of Crossroads 'best of' (2-cds + 1 dvd(live from Wembley, that is relased also as individual dvd, earlier). Is really worthy if yuo're after goodies.

(More customer reviews)i bought this album about 3 months ago and it has spent most of its time in the cd player. this album/compilation is a work of art and is not to be missed. you may think that because it is jebediah's b sides it may not have many good songs on it, but every song is great. the songs all vary from being made during the slightly odway album, of someday shambles and the jebediah album so it contains music from their early stage and later stages. it also contains 3 cover songs which are very good also. they are pace it form the superjesus, clint by something for kate, and when the generals talk by midnight oil. and they have benn done very well. overall if you are thinking of buying this album, do it. you will not regret it. great indie music

(More customer reviews)This box contains the original albums Ticket to ride, Close to you, Carpenters, A song for you, Now and then, Horizon, A kind of hush, Passage, Made in America, Voice of the heart and Lovelines, each on its own CD, together with a CD of Christmas music. Titled Christmas portrait, the Christmas CD is actually a compilation of their two Christmas albums (An old-fashioned Christmas, Christmas portrait). With 21 tracks, it includes most of their Christmas music, but if you want the albums in their entirety, there is a double CD titled Christmas collection, which contains both albums on separate CD's.
Apart from the omitted Christmas tracks, Carpenters completists will notice the absence of solo recordings by Richard and Karen. Also, some material has been unearthed in more recent years, beginning with Trying to get the feeling again, which first appeared on the Interpretations compilation, but has appeared elsewhere since. So this doesn`t include the entire catalog of Carpenters music, but it contains the vast majority of the music that they recorded together.
This boxed set was released as a numbered limited edition. I don't know what the limit was, but my copy is number 1241. I like the presentation, which includes notes by Richard and other comments by Ray Coleman, together with a collection of pictures but not of the original album artwork. A foldout spread contains all the track listings.
At the time that this boxed set was released, I don't think the individual albums were all available separately in Britain, though maybe some were; I can`t remember. I had plenty of money in those days so I took my opportunity to buy this box, saving me the effort of having to look out for the individual albums.

(More customer reviews)I just bought this cd, and it's absolutely fascinating. A longish (22 tracks), sprawling mix of avant-garde indie/post-rock that never ceases to impress, this album is one of the best records to have been recorded in the past 10 years. Although nobody quite sounds like them, the Thinking Fellers draw influences from abstract german legends such as Faust and Can, and post-punk edginess and Captain Beefheart-like wordplay and segmented songs (including some influence on his Trout Mask-era guitar interplay). They're a great band that never stops being interesting, and they're full of quirkiness and humor as well as some very inventive and brilliant music with a varying production sound that goes from lo-fi 4 track fiddlings to a fuller but somewhat edgy and slightly underproduced sound. Although I've heard and read about them for a long time, I finally bought one of their albums and no band has excited me as much as this band in a long time. I highly recommend if you're into post-punk bands or you're into the askew and quirky. I also highly recommend their "Strangers of the Universe" (which I might actually point someone towards first due to the fact that it is a more accessible introduction for someone who needs to be worked into a weird band) and "Mother of All Saints." A great band, and somewhat underrated at times, Thinking Fellers are one of the greatest bands of today.

Solomon Linda & His Original Evening Birds' recording of "Mbube" (aka Wimoweh) is well known to S/A music fans and is on numerous compilations, but along with this we get to hear our heroes on some other songs. These guys were really talented.
There are some other mbube groups featured in unreleased recordings and well as ultra-rare recordings from SABC radio. Some of these tunes feature minor instrumentation via piano or banjo, but these are as much fun as the acapella songs.
All of the songs are in Zulu, but you get an idea of what's going on as the titles of the songs are translated on the liner notes.
As a bonus, we have the VERY FIRST radio recording of Ladysmith Black Mambazo (1967)-the group that made this style internationally known. Thier sounds has remained consistant through the years.
If you like S/A music, you'll love this. Get it.

I ended up paying [$$]to have it imported. Summer of 2002 all of my CD's were stolen and I am glad to have found it again at a reasonable price. Based on Frank Wedekind s 1891 German play of the same title, Spring Awakening is a rock musical adaptation composed by Duncan Sheik with book and lyrics by Steven Sater. (More customer reviews)Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas II You" is as soothing - and ideally suited - for the season as a warm, restorative cup of cocoa. It is cool, classy and uncalculated, confidently delivering holiday cheer.
Carey's 1994 "Merry Christmas" collection - which yielded "All I Want For Christmas Is You," perhaps the biggest hit of her career - was sprinkled generously with formal elegance and vocal bombast, although in welcome doses. "Merry Christmas II You" is not Carey's attempt to recapture that same formula but rather to offer a more festive, relaxed counterpart that complements the first album well. She no longer has anything to prove, so she can afford subtlety.
Lead single "Oh Santa!" is a cute pop record that - quite transparently - revisits the theme of "All I Want for Christmas Is You." With its rhythmic handclapping and vibrant background vocal work it strikes a resemblance to Outkast's "Hey Ya!" It is endearing, extroverted and giddy-sweet, though it jars a bit with the languid, milky sweet soul that characterizes most of the album.
On the likes of "The First Noel/Born Is the King (Interlude)" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem" Carey is blissfully understated. She sings the songs with grace, sweetness and maternal warmth rather than the youthful exuberance that colored 1994's "Merry Christmas," unleashing those signature high notes only at climactic moments. Those who listen for vocal acrobatics will not find a surplus of them - rather, just the right amount. She also makes interesting song choices - such as "Christmas Time Is Here (Charlie Brown Christmas)" - which suit this style.
"Christmas Time Is in the Air Again" is so slinky, precious and delicate that it only begins to call attention to itself after a few spins, but it is an exceptional track - another fine original that, like "All I Want for Christmas Is You," shows Carey's gift for timelessness as a writer. It is romantic, elegant and soul-stirring enough to arouse emotions without breaking the yuletide mood. "One Child" is another cornerstone original - a serious moment worthy of working its way into church hymn books. It is dignified, restrained, sincere and devout, with a lovely children's choir.
Carey's mother Patricia provides operatic vocals on "O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah," which will surprise those listeners previously unaware that her mother's career as an opera singer gave rise to Carey's talent. The elder Carey sounds wonderful, and the blending of both their voices not only invokes sweet sound but the warmth of family.
The live rendition of "O Holy Night" is only partially live; some portions (generally, the most vocally challenging) of it are lifted right from the 1994 recording, while other moments are clearly live. It is fine listening, but it is also baffling. The updated version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is almost indistinguishable from the original - good news for those torn between which of Carey's Christmas albums to purchase.
"Merry Christmas II You" is a fine testament to Carey's enduring talent and generation-defining voice. The prospect of a recession-informed Christmas - one where fewer presents will be beneath the tree - is a very real one this season, but the presence of this album on the stereo will go a long way to putting smiles on faces, rejuvenating spirits and underscoring the real meaning of Christmas.

For those of you who love Sacred Harp , Southern Harmony and Spirituals, you will revel in the folk traditions of this album. Parker and Shaw arrangements, and sometimes just one or the other are so well done. The singers, of course, do an excellent job of making music under Shaw's direction. "Hark I Hear.." arr. by Parker is becoming a standard for choruses and this album will help you hear why. "If I've got my ticket" by Shaw is a wonderful exchange between solo and chorus. You will be playing this CD over and over once you hear it.

Ultimate Christmas Album 3 Review

(More customer reviews)I stumbled across this CD in a store several years ago, and have never regretted my decision to purchase it. While the CD is marketed with labels from various Oldies stations on it (most notably WCBS 101.1FM from New York City), it is actually produced by a little-known company called Collectables Records, and they have done an excellent job compiling this CD. Full of classic songs like "The Christmas Song" and "Christmas Vacation" (the one made famous in the movie of the same name), as well as quirky tunes such as "Jingle Bells" by the Jingle Dogs (obviously created by someone with just a little too much time on their hands...) and fun songs like "Chrissy the Christmas Mouse", there's something for everyone on this CD. The best part is, they crammed the music on this disc - 77 minutes and 24 seconds long with 22 songs. If you like Christmas music, you should definitely buy this. I also recommend checking out the other volumes in this collection. I've got volumes 1 and 4 as well, and will add others at some point.

(More customer reviews)Bran Van's Glee sounded like no other 1998 album.It mixed different kinds of music styles like rock , pop , hip hop , soul and funk all done with an extra-cool attitude which was impossible to resist. "Drinking In LA" was one of the best singles of that year , relaxing and highly enjoyable . Then there was goofy yet lovable lazy-boy DiSalvio on "Couch Surfer" , sensitive female touches on "Everywhere" , Beastie Boys-like rapping on "Forest" and ofcourse that amazing cover of Slade's "Come on feel the noise" . This is a record which can make you smile and feel good everytime you listen to it and , in addition to all that it will certaintly take you a long time before you get bore with it (it includes 16-17 songs , you know... ) . Bran Van 3000 are the friends we would all want to have to cheer us up.
