UPDATE! mon 20 july 2009 > UPDATE! sun 27 dec 2009 Atoms dual
core performance is great, don't worry about it if you are planning
using it like a server 24/7
BAD
> There is no wifi card
> Intel GMA video chip is slowly and crappy. Here is my
recomendation:
You will realize, that you actually can't play high definition
videos with the wife of the Atom processor, the Intel Graphics
Media "Accelerator" (GMA). Frame skipping and audio cuts, will be
totally a mess.
Can be frustrating, but there is a solution:
> Deactivate deblocking filter on all the codecs that support it
(H.264/MPEG-4 AVC)
How ?
Install klite codec pack, and at the end of the setup, choose
deactivate deblocking.
If you use build-in codecs player programs such GOMPlayer, there
are options for quit deblocking filters.
This way you can play even 720p hardly encoded videos, you will see
some blocks here and there, but no frame skipping or audio
cuts.
Alternately, if you need more performance, you can choose 16bit of
color depth.

an n450 powered device akin to the 1005 line.
Well let me say that I'm glad I didn't spend the extra 60 bucks.
This computer has everything the 1005 line has minus bluetooth
(honestly, I don't think I've ever met a person who uses bluetooth)
battery life (11 vs 14 hours, real world 8 vs 11 hours), harddrive
space (160GB versus 250GB which is a negligible difference),
display (matte screen vs glossy screen equal resolution), wireless
(g vs n) and finish (matte vs glossy).
Now, that seems like a lot of differences, but all of them, save
battery life, are pointless bells and whistles that do nothing to
affect the performance of the computer (akin to putting a moon roof
and a spoiler on a car and jacking the price up).
Battery life is the only worthwhile difference between the two
models (maybe worth 60-80 bucks depending on what your plans are).
It would have been nice to have wireless n, but most users probably
won't notice a difference.
As far as the screen and finish go, I think matte is actually an
advantage. A glossy screen is exhausting to read on in bright
light. I'll never understand what the recent obsession with glossy
screens is; they are murderous to the eyes. As for a glossy finish,
your netbook will look like a piece of well worn packing tape after
15 minutes (big greasy fingerprints everywhere!).
I've heard a lot of people complain that the keyboard of this model
feels spongy, but I think they must be typing with mallets, because
the 1001p keyboard feels like every other laptop I've ever used. It
does not depress in the corners or anywhere for that matter and I'm
a fairly hard typist.
The first thing I did when I got this computer was clean install
windows 7 ultimate and office 2003 (office 2007 being an unholy
abomination; a grievous injustice perpetrated upon all of mankind).
So far the netbook has been breezing through applications on 1GB
ram with nary a stutter. I would highly recommend upgrading from
the absolute garbage windows 7 starter, it doesn't even let you
change the wallpaper and is solely intended to annoy you.
Furthermore, you might as well get rid of all the asus software (it
periodically generates pop-up ads asking if you want to pay for
something) and just install the drivers for lan and wireless, you
really don't need the others.
In conclusion (ah, high school english where would I be without
you) The 1001P is a solid, surprisingly powerful little netbook
with excellent design. It is more than adequate for most computing
tasks short of video editing. And for 280$? Are you kidding me? How
can you complain?

(More customer

pc and have had it for about a week now. I originally was going to
get the Lifebook U810, but I already have a Mini PC; but I was
still very attracted to the design and the specs of the Fujitsu
Lifebook. I kept seeing the T1010 advertise, and after a few times,
I decided to purchase one, and I am sure glad I did. I got it
preconfigured with 120 hard drive (which I switched out right away
for a 200 gb 7200 rpm drive) and the new DDR3 RAM, 2 GB. I
absolutely am loving evrything about this laptop. It is fast,
flawless connection, sturdy, sleek, and has a very attractive
design. The moment that I picked it up, I knew that it was built
very well. It doesn't get hot at all. The graphics is very very
good for the type of laptop/ tablet that it is, and also for its
size. The only issue that I have with it, if this is really an
issue, is that it did not come with WWAN. I think it has the
connection inside it, but I have to get the WWAN card I believe.
But this in itself is really nobiggie at all, because as of this
posting, I have never used WWAN. I have been an avid Dell user/
purchaser util now. I went to the Dell website and built a latitude
with similar specs, give or take one or two, and that Dell laptop
would have costed me close to $2300.00, almost a thousand more than
what I paid for this one, and the Dell had the same ratings and
reviews as this one did. I asked a computer repair technician for
his unbiased opinion and review of Fujitsu laptops, and he said
that either they haven't sold too many of them (which I have
learned now that quite a few Fujitsu laptops are sold), or they are
built very well, because of his 10+ years at computer repair, he
has not seen but one Fujitsu come through, and that was just for a
spyware issue. He said that apparently Fujitsu are one of the best
on the market today. To close this out, if you are thinking about
purchasing this type of laptop/tablet pc, then go ahead! Get it!
You will Not regret it I assure you. And its sexiness will run the
women wild. I have used mine in public, and a few times now, a
crowd gathered around me in awe of this fine laptop. Thanks for
listening.

it can hardly be beat. Mine came with 1 GB of RAM and a 100 GB hard
drive.
I reconfigured it with a higher level operating system and my own
software choices, and the higher end stuff I'm running works
great.
The screen is simply wonderful--full, bright, vibrant colors and
wider than my own desktop.
The keybord takes a little getting used to, at first I kept hitting
the caps lock key for the letter "a". The keyboard isn't laid out
wrong, rather it's different from what I'm used to.

(More customer

have a mac. I really have been suprised at how easy it is to learn
the mac way of doing things.
I'm a programmer by trade (not a desktop coder, but
mainframe/database) and I actually decided to buy the iMac because
of my desire to create apps for my iPhone. I was shocked to learn
that I could keep my windows environment. I could have both
worlds.
So far, everything has been very easy to install and use. I had the
windows/vmware setup and the iPhone SDK install the first day.
Coming from a PC, I'm delighted at how elegant the interface is,
even the mouse and keyboard are elegant. The screen is very nice.
Colors seem very good, but I haven't done any photo editing and
color correction/matching (so you'll have to get the pros opinion
on that one).
Windows runs very well on it and I've had no problems with it.
I can't see changing back to a PC for my uses (not a gamer). This
iMac was the best value IMO, compared to the other mac's and
macbooks. Even compared to the new mac mini (if you add in the
additional cost of a good monitor, bluetooth keyboard and magic
mouse, the mini was closing in on the iMac price). I'd recommend
this iMac for any deveoper to use as a base system. Power seems
more than sufficient add to that the capability to run windows as
well and you have one of the best values in a development system
I've seen.
All this and lets face it the mac experience is very pleasant, and
it doesn't hurt to expand your development into the mac arena.
After one week, I'm already a satified mac user.
I'll update after a year or so of use and abuse.

Key Features
Big, Beautiful Display Combined with All-In-One Simplicity The new
iMac has come a long way from the first 15-inch iMac. The
all-in-one design of the first flat-panel iMac cleaned up the
desktop, and put everything you need--display, processor, graphics
card, hard drive, optical drive, memory, and more--inside one
simple enclosure. New technology inside and out makes the new iMac
a worthy addition to the all-in-one dynasty.
This 21.5-inch model features an edge-to-edge glass display that
covers nearly the entire front of the enclosure. When all you see
is the display, nothing gets between you and what's onscreen.
Movies, TV shows, websites, photos--everything looks stunning on
the new 16:9 widescreen iMac display. And the LED backlighting in
the new iMac helps push more light through the pixels with
remarkable brightness and efficiency. And because the LED backlight
doesn't take up much space, the iMac enclosure stays thin--even
with all the high-performance components inside.
The iMac display is designed to look great from almost any angle. A
technology called in-plane switching (IPS) makes this possible.
Whether you're sitting in front of the display or standing off to
the side, you'll get a perfect picture with superb color
consistency and no loss of detail.
The wider iMac display allows more room to separate the two hottest
components, the CPU and the GPU. This keeps things cool inside the
iMac enclosure. Apple engineers also implemented an intelligent
control system that monitors temperatures and delivers just the
right amount of airflow to critical components. And the three fans
inside iMac have been tuned to be ultraquiet.
While you'll find a collection of ports on the back of iMac, you
won't find much else. A seamless, precision-forged enclosure makes
the back one continuous aluminum surface. And there's only one
cord: the power cord.
Wireless Magic Mouse and Keyboard Forget the mouse as you know it.
Every iMac comes with the wireless Magic Mouse: the world's first
Multi-Touch mouse. Use it once and you'll wonder how you ever used
anything else. There's no scroll ball, no clunky wheel, no cord,
and no visible button. Instead, the Magic Mouse uses Multi-Touch
technology to let you control everything with simple gestures. Give
them a try and you'll find that Magic Mouse changes the way you
interact with your computer. Built-in software lets you configure
Magic Mouse any way you want. Its smooth, seamless design is
ambidextrous, and it supports two-button clicking--without
buttons.
The iMac banishes desktop clutter completely with a wireless
keyboard to go with the wireless Magic Mouse. This low-profile
keyboard takes up less desk space--24 percent less--than larger
keyboards. There's no numeric keypad, so you can place your mouse
comfortably next to the keyboard. And built-in Bluetooth means
there are no cables to connect.
Built-in Wi-Fi High-speed 802.11n wireless technology is built into
iMac. And with Time Capsule or the AirPort Express Base Station,
every computer in every room can wirelessly connect to iMac, the
Internet, and each other. Over this network, everyone can print,
surf the web, and play music on iTunes through your home
stereo--wirelessly.
iSight Webcam Hidden behind the glass display at the top of iMac is
an iSight camera. Use it with iChat, and you can be anywhere
without actually being there. Video chat with up to three of your
friends, share a video with a colleague, or present to a client.
Use iSight with Photo Booth for fun photo effects. And there's no
need to waste valuable primping time installing software or
configuring the camera.
Pre-Loaded with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife '09Every Mac comes
with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the world's most advanced operating
system, and iLife, Apple's innovative suite of applications for
managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play
music. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and
success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out
of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. iLife features iPhoto,
to easily organize and manage photos; iMovie with powerful
easy-to-use new features such as Precision Editor, video
stabilization and advanced drag and drop; and GarageBand which
introduces a whole new way to help you learn to play piano and
guitar.
Installed software
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look,

Environmentally Friendly DesignBecause Apple designs both hardware
and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways
others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces
the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall
to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient
hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating
system to conserve power--even between keystrokes.
A Mac also doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. All Mac
displays are mercury and arsenic free, and the internal components
are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame
retardants (BFRs).
Efficient Power Supply The iMac includes a highly efficient power
supply that reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing
electricity from the wall to your computer. Lower power consumption
reduces energy bills and lessens the environmental impact of
greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
Advanced Power Management Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems,
iMac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in
hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins
down hard drives and activates sleep mode on already
energy-efficient LED-backlit displays. And it balances tasks across
both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never
misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even
regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between
the letters you type. That's just one of many ways Apple manages
small amounts of power that add up to big savings.
ENERGY STAR Qualification The iMac meets the stringent low power

(More customer

months I can state that this is a great value purchase. It's hard
to find a comparable product with Blu-Ray etc. from a name that is
known for great products and great customer service (Sony).
Pro's: Beautiful display, Blu-Ray drive, light-weight (for the
screen size), price
Con's: Limited battery life, When upgrading to Windows 7
(Evaluation Copy) the shortcut keys become disabled with no
patch/fix out from Sony yet, relatively low speaker volume.
This is a dream machine for the basic PC user, just open it up,
plug it in and you are good to go. Out of the box it takes about
10-15 minutes to enter your information and register the product
with Sony. Once you get to getting you feel for it you will notice
that the display is amazing (especially when playing a blu-ray
player). If you are using this as a desktop replacement you should
definitely have external speakers to use with it due to the limited
volume output from the built-ins.
My only issue is if you are like me and feel the urge to upgrade to
Windows 7, beware that the "short-cut/quick keys" for media playing
(pause, volume up & down and the s1 button etc.) will be
disabled with no fix yet from Sony.
Hope this helps!

(More customer

8 hours a day while undertaking some intensive training class. I am
not going to enumerate the published specs for this machine but,
instead I will run the specs against what I perceive as its
usability and how that correlates to the price.
It's probably fair to state that there is little remarkable about
this machine. So, here they are, my observations:
- Most of the basic featuresc found on cheaper models are found in
the T630 as well.
- Some features found in cheaper models, such as biometric
(fingerprint) authentication are not supported.
- Max resolution is 1440x900
- Small 60-80GB hard drive - I can't see how equipping a $2000
laptop with a $50 hard drive can be possibly justified (for our
class purposes, an installation that included Windows XP, Firefox
and some VMWare filled up the disk, leaving only 1GB free).
- Keybord is below average, "molasses" feel, need to strike the
keys hard for a keystroke to register.
- Same as above for the mouse button emulators, only worse.
- 4 USB ports (that's a good thing), 2 in the back and to on the
right.
- Heavy.
I award this machine 3 stars only because I am ignoring the
outrageous posted price because prices can and do change. So, price
not considered, it's an average, unremarkable machine. I can
tolerate it for another day or 2 of training but, if this was my
office laptop, the size of the hard drive and the subpar keyboard
would proably have me petition my IT department for a
replacement.
Of course, using it with a docking station (and it DOES have
docking capabilities) would take care of the keyboard issue but the
minuscule hard drive would still be a concern.

(More customer
reviews)My "real" rating would probably be 4.5 stars out
of 5, but since I can't do that, I'll round up.
When my old printer died, I decided to look into an all-in-one
since my scanner was getting up there in age and I had begun to
notice how convenient having a fax machine in the house would be. I
also wanted built-in two-sided printing (since I'd been spoiled
with that feature on my last printer), and good print quality
(especially photos). I also thought it would be nice to have each
color in separate ink tanks so I wouldn't have to replace anything
more than what I had used. With this printer I got everything I
wanted except for the separate ink tanks.
I've been very impressed with the scan quality and copy quality. I
have sent and received faxes with absolutely no problems. I've
printed pages of great looking sharp text and impressive looking
photos just using the default black and tri-color cartridges (i.e.,
without putting in the optional photo cartridge). The color LCD and
the menu system it uses is great and easy to navigate.
If you're trying to decide between this printer and the 7410, I did
some research and emailed HP to confirm what exactly the
differences are. The only differences are:
1) The 7410 comes with the extra 250-sheet tray that attaches to
the bottom of the printer and adds an extra inch or two to the
total height of the printer.
2) On the machine itself, the 7410 has a 'collate' button and an
option to collate within the 'copy' menu. HP also calls this
'reverse order printing' and they say it can be activated on the
7310 through the driver (although I have not done it). The same
button on the 7310 is 'Lighter/Darker' and the 'collate' option is
not in the copy menu.
3) While both printers have built in networking, only the 7410 has
built-in wireless networking. This was not an issue for me since I
already have a wireless router and I just ran an ethernet cable
from my router to the printer. Now any computer that connects to
the wireless router is able to print to the printer without having
to go through another computer. The printer is basically its own
device on the network and relies on nothing other than its network
connection (i.e., no usb cables connected). If I had the 7410, the
only difference is that I wouldn't have the ethernet cable coming
from the router, but the functionality is the same.
I had no problems actually installing the software on any of our
computers and have no problems using or accessing the printer from
any computer on the network ("accessing" includes accessing any
flash card in the media slots). There was a little complication
with the software upsetting XP's Data Execution Prevention (DEP),
but there is an update on HP's website that took care of that
pretty easily.
My complaints:
- If you don't pull out the tray extender, anything you print will
fall on the floor. This is kind of annoying if I'm printing from my
laptop downstairs, go up to retrieve my print job, and find it all
over the floor. Simple solution: If you just leave it pulled out
(but not 'flipped' all the way out) it will still catch pretty much
everything without having to deal with the thing jutting too far
into space.
- As I mentioned before, I wish HP's ink cartridge system was
different so that each ink color had its own cartridge that could
be replaced as the individual color ran out. On a related note, I
wish I could leave the photo cartridge in without having to swap
out the black cartridge.
This is a great printer that is the first all-in-one that I have
used that could perform all of its many functions really well. It
is a little on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. I
have never regretted buying this printer.

(More customer
reviews)I've had the HP L7680 for slightly over three
months. I've been a pretty heavy user, having printed (according to
the self-test page) almost 4000 pages during that time. Unlike some
of the others mentioned here, my unit has been completely
reliable.
Print Quality - Printing is very sharp and closely approaches laser
quality...it's certainly above the threshold for business
correspondence and presentations. The color output is solid, with
almost no visible banding. I have not used it to print many photos,
but those that I have have been also acceptable, given the
constraints of a four color ink system. If photography printing is
your primary usage, you should buy a printer with more ink
colors.
Ink consumption - Over the span of 4000 pages, I went through the
initial set of ink cartridges and am now on the third black
cartridge...the second cartridge was a standard capacity one, while
the third is the XL version. It's still 2/3 full. A second set of
color cartridges were also the standard capacity versions. They're
still 3/4 full. When they go empty, they'll also be replaced with
the XL versions. Most of my printing is obviously black with a
minor amount of spot color.
Faxing - It works. Faxes seem to get there.
Copying - The internal memory is inadequate to allow more than 5-6
pages of a document to be scanned and stored for collated printing.
This flaw was obviously anticipated by the printer's firmware
designers...the page
that causes the memory to overflow is returned to the scanning
input tray so it can be scanned in the next five page batch.
Unfortunately this flaw requires manual intervention...you have to
remove the five printed pages from the output tray, set them aside
and then place them on top of the next batch out. This is an
absolute pain...The leader of the copier design team should be
required to make fifteen copies of Tolstoy's War and Peace as
atonement.
Scanning - The HP software works, but is awkward. I have yet to
discover where the defaults are set...and the preset ones aren't
optimal for my office. I'd like to be able to set it to scan an
8x11.5 letter size by default, rather than have the software guess
the paper size based upon the image. It's NEVER guessed correctly.
And, after scanning something into Adobe Acrobat, I need to click
on "cancel" three more times before the image is finally
transferred...it's like a Japanese monster movie...The Software
That Wouldn't Die. There's other annoyances. The bottom line,
though, is that it works. It's just doesn't work nicely.
So...the copying and scanning issues dropped this printer from a
strong five stars down to three. It prints great and if there was a
socket where I could add in more memory, the copying problem would
go away. But there isn't. And while the scanning stuff is just
annoying, the copying problem is a real time-waster.
Update: Since I've had the printer for a year and a half, I thought
I'd add in a quick update and note that it's still going strong.
I've gone through 500cc of black ink, 50-60cc of cyan and yellow,
and 36cc of magenta. There has been some drift in the alignment,
resulting in some slight banding while printing, but I suspect that
that could be calibrated out. The only major problem has been wear
in the automatic page feed mechanism in the document feeder, which
causes misfeeds while faxing or copying. Cleaning the rollers and
pads helped, but they should be replaced. The purchase of a high
speed scanner (Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 Sheet-fed Scanner) has pretty
much eliminated my use of the automatic document feeder, otherwise
this problem would be a serious hassle.

(More customer
reviews)I'm not sure why everyone else's reviews are so
negative. The machine boots up so quickly--it goes from asleep to
functional in 5 seconds. Literally. I haven't played with the touch
screen apps a whole lot but this machine does a great job ripping
and burning media discs. It has a fast hard drive and optical drive
and provides flawless playback of DVD movies. I haven't used the TV
tuner yet but my sister has on her computer and loves it. DVR
without having to pay a monthly fee! Windows 7 doesn't feel that
different from Vista, and regardless of whether you like it or not,
this is a great machine. My only real complaint is that the
super-thin keyboard has a slightly different layout of the delete
key (it's huge!) and it throws an experienced typist off for the
first little while. Other than that, an incredible, relatively
portable machine for less than a decent laptop.
The days of people opening up their computers and tinkering with
the parts inside have passed. I worked at a laptop repair facility
for years and used to be a stalwart opponent of Macs, all-in-ones,
and laptops for people who did not need portable computing.
Recently, however, I have changed my mind--computers are so cheap
and peripherals are advancing so quickly compared to the
processors, RAM, etc. that computers have become replaceable as a
unit and not cost-effectively serviceable with replacement parts. I
bought this computer to replace my "serviceable" home-made unit and
absolutely love it. It will get me by for the next 3-5 years, and
then I will replace it as a unit instead of trying to "upgrade" it
one part at a time. The real appeal of this computer, besides its
looks, is that there is only one cord--a power cord. It has made my
office much more tidy and pleasant to work in. I can move the
computer to a different room in the house by unplugging its one
cord and carrying it. The touchscreen is just an added bonus.

college. It has been nothing but trouble with overheating, hinges
and other things. Three times Dell replaced the hard drive, which
of course resulted in the loss of the software, files, etc. and
required rebuilding. After the third time, I started insisting they
replace it and the agreed. But now we're 5 weeks into this as the
end of a semester approaches and the replacement Laptop still
hasn't shippped. This has required many hours on the line with Dell
over the year and the three rebuilds of the hard disk and other
things. This seems to be a systemic problem with this product that
Dell should have been aware of through the design and testing
process and through it QA processes once the product was in the
field. It kept overheating and they kept insisting that a BIOS
update and things were going to fix it.
We've been long-time Dell users and have a number of Dell Systems.
it's going to be easier in the future just to switch back over to
HP or Toshibia or some other manufacturer with better product
reliability, because Dell as failed with this. And now trying to
get it replaced is something started in Oct, and yet here in
Mid-Nov we can't get an estimated shipping date. Totally
uancceptable.
I was also about ready to get a new powerhouse Dell desktop, but
I'll buy that from a manufacturer with more reliable products
too.

(More customer

reasons:
1. I like the red color, sets it apart from other netbooks
2. It runs Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 without a hitch, webcam, mic,
wireless and all, kudos to the Ubuntu community
3. It is perfect for bringing it to class and taking notes, and
even recording the professor. Battery life with wifi off and screen
brightness turned down was about 3:30, which isn't bad for such a
small netbook with a small battery
Things to consider though:
It is small! Try any 10.1 netbook at a retail store before buying.
The size of the screen is a bit of an adjustment, but of course
there are several advantages to a smaller screen.
Don't expect to do any gaming short of flash games and solitaire.
Of course, if you are looking at netbooks, you should already know
this.
anywho, for the price and the style, I have no regrets about this
netbook! Buy it! They all have the same relative specs anyways, so
I let my vanity get the best of me to get the red one.

(More customer
reviews)I bought this laptop just over 1.5 yrs ago, but
finally decided it was time to write a review on this
monstrosity.
I paid over one thousand dollars for this, and having had positive
experiences with HP in the past I thought this would be the perfect
laptop to lug around when starting University.
Okay, I will begin by saying that I hardly ever carry this laptop
around, and usually keep it sat on my desk or use it while lying in
bed. The few times I have traveled with it, it has been for short
extents of time and I would carry it in a highly-padded computer
bag. I am positive I took better care of my laptop than many
people, however, I guess that doesn't change a thing if the laptop
is already poorly made. I will now list the problems I have
encountered in my DV5-1000us from the day I got it up until today
(1.5 yrs later):
*The easy pad (touchpad) controls stopped working many times during
my first few months of use, however, now work 99% of the time. One
thing that has not changed, although I believe this is simply a
design flaw is that you can't skip, pause, play, or stop songs on
itunes unless you have the itunes window displaying immediately
infront of you. Because of this, I deem these controls useless
since it's just as easy to press any of these buttons simply from
the itunes window. It is also very annoying when you want to
control itunes, but can't simply use the touchpad.
*The sound card: This computer has an awful sound card simply
because it continually turns on and off. I have a password-login
which I must use to access my computer, but if the computer falls
asleep, sometimes the sound card turns off which requires me to
close and reopen my computer screen, relogin and then wait a minute
for my computer to allow me to actually use it while it makes a
loud engine sound. It's not that bad, but quite an annoying
flaw.
*The keyboard:After a few weeks of using my laptop, the keyboard
buttons would easily jam and sometimes the plastic holding them to
the laptop would pop up and the keys would essentially "break."
They all worked, however, many became loose or stiff after
this.
---And today my keyboard simply stopped working, so I am now typing
on a usb keyboard (which is actually much better than my laptop
keyboard and it only cost $18!) I should mention that although this
laptop cost over one thousand dollars, the keyboard is not water
resistant and also easily attracts dirt under the keys. It cost
nearly $400 to fix my laptop keyboard (and I live in the Silicon
Valley right next to HP!), and simply put: This computer itself
isn't even worth $300-$400!
*The "paint job" -- when you open up this laptop you will see
"small, smooth metal squares." These are painted on and can easily
be chipped off -- my laptop is a perfect example!
*The "mouse paint job" The mouse pad on this laptop is a great size
and I love that it is centered, rather than placed to the side like
in some other HP DV's and Toshiba Satellites, however one day I
came home after class and while studying next to it, noticed that
the mousepad was scorching hot. I figured, "Hey, it's an HP!"
HOWEVER, just a few minutes later I go to browse the internet and
notice the metal paint job on the left-hand cursor had BURNT OFF!
This was only after around six months of use, and to this day
nearly the entire left-hand cursor is burnt-black.
*The graphics card: You wouldn't think it would be bad, and it's
not that bad...BUT it is a very cheap, OLD graphics card and can
cause computer games to skip around.
*The INTERNET: I have LOST COUNT of how many times the internet on
this computer has suddenly stopped working. You will be browsing
the internet and WHAM! You will close the lid to your computer and
come back to it and WHAM! No matter how or when it happens, this
laptop will find a way to disconnect to the internet (another
reason I should mention that I simply keep it in my apartment
room). It is NOT easy to reconnect the internet when this happens.
Especially if you do not have access to the router, it is basically
trial-and-error each time this happens -- and it happens quite
frequently and usually waste a few hours trying to fix it. For some
reason there is no solution to this problem, because one method can
fix the internet one time, and not work at all the next! ---The
touchpad wifi control sometimes can mess up and stay on
"disconnected/orange" even if you try and try and try to enable it
and make it blue. This is NOT a portable laptop, because many times
it doesn't even pick up wireless points many other laptops do!
*The safety-rubber attached to the laptop IS ATTACHED WITH FREAKING
ELMER'S GLUE!!! Okay, so maybe it's not...however, a few of the
pieces of rubber placed on the very bottom and screen fall off.
They literally will just melt off...You will feel something sticky
and realize the rubber is melting off.
*built-in microphone of poor quality. I didn't even REALIZE this
laptop had a built in microphone like my mom's new mac, simply
because...It doesn't pick up sound unless you have your mouth to
the screen -- and how many people do that?!
*CD-rom sometimes doesn't function -- you will insert a CD or DVD
and be all stoked to listen or watch it when nothing pops up. You
go to my computer>CD/DVD-drive to notice it hasn't picked up the
fact you just put a cd or dvd in. Sometimes it says, "NO DVD/CD
INSERTED." and jot-fully pop out the CD/DVD door as if you really
needed that lol So again, you should restart your computer...and
get used to it if you buy this...
Okay, I know i doesn't sound like alot, but trust me...these cons
really get to you after a while, and I haven't even mentioned
(although I think this happens to most HP's), all the things which
stop working and error messages which randomly pop up.
I know this is a very LONG review, but if it stops you from buying
this laptop or at least lets you know what you are getting yourself
into, then I'm happy.
I WANT to like this computer, and put aside all of these
issues...but I just can't. If this were a $300-$400 computer (the
cost to fix my keyboard haha), then I might shrug it off as
annoying as it is...but what ever happened to getting what you paid
for?
I do not recommend this laptop to anyone and the only reason this
review is so long is because the problems-list associated with the
laptop...goes on and on. :/
