Do not get this HP. I had to send it in several times to have repairs done and each time it had a different problem. First the camera didn't work (right out of the box) so I sent it in for the warranty work then when I got it back the screen didn't work. Then I sent it in again and then the hard drive kept crashing and the blue screen of death would come up about 4 out of 5 times on restarting. Not only that, the keyboard was smashed in like someone had dropped a bowling ball on it and several deep scratches on the outer lid. I spent several hours explaining this to tech support. They finally said they would send me a brand new one. About 1 year to the day after receiving the new one the screen flickers when tilting the screen one way or the other. There is only about a 5 degree area that it doesn't flicker. I've been told by a local tech support person that HP has a problem with connections on the motherboard. I will end up getting a new laptop and trust me, it will not be an HP. Blah!!!!!
Can I rate this as -5 stars?

I bought this computer as I am very hard on computers, since I travel for work constantly. My computer guru suggested I buy a solid state hard drive and this was the only one I could find. I got a good deal. The keyboard is nice and it is ultra thin. I even like the slanted keyboard for typing. A bit inconvenient not having a CD drive. It is a conversation starter. Anyone who sees it in the airport comments on it! No fan, so have to make sure the vents are not blocked.

I bought this computer for my dad. He is not a computer genius so he just needed something that would help him with email, word, and other common tasks.
The good: comes with windows 7 loaded. Which is better than anything else made by microsoft
The bad:
The keyboard id no good. Hard to type and weird design
The mouse is worse. It has the gestures pad, which doesn't always obey your commands
The mouse button is super hard, you will need to workout your fingers before using it.But the worst thing about is that it comes with NO CDs. nothing. Not a recovery CD not or the windows 7 CDs. Nothing.
Not to mention that it comes preloaded with tons of free trials (which we all know aren't really free).

Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet 7453 Review

This is NOT the great quality I'm used to on a Thinkpad. Oh yea, it's not IBM anymore; so it's my fault. It's got some cheap plastic as a case that looks and feels very ugly. It also beeps annoyingly loud every time you turn it on or bring it back from standby that I can't turn off or down. Performance is terrible mainly due to the cheap and slow hard drive it comes with. I had to replace it with a solid state drive for it to be fast enough to be useful. Only main attraction on this is the tablet screen, but there is some kind of problem with Lenovo's driver; I cannot get pressure sensitive pen to work on any of my graphics apps even after searching various forums to find many others with same problems. It appears Lenovo's just not up to updating their own drivers with fixes. Build quality is flimsy overall; it's nothing like what you see on these photoshoped pictures you see on the web.

I bought a macbook from amazon, from a company named Onsale, and i'm pretty satisfy with the product that i recieved. I bought a brand new laptop from Onsale and that was exactly what i got. The package was delivered on time, and i haven't had any problems with my laptop so far. It came with the specifications that i requested and it came sealed in its original box.

Excellent tablet! I'm running Windows 7 RC on mine, and it's got the horsepower to do it right. I added 4GB of RAM and a 16GB solid state drive in the expresscard slot for ReadyBoost, and the difference is notable, although I haven't run any benchmarks to back up my perception. There are plenty of video reviews as well as reviews of the features under Windows XP and Windows Vista out there on the internetz; like everyone else - I can't get the panel display to auto-rotate in tablet mode under Windows 7, nor does the rotate "hot key" button work, but I found iRotate at [...] to mange my display, and it works like a charm. I bought mine from HP Direct on a scratch 'n dent sale for some serious savings, but it's worth every penny of the list price!

The power adapter failed within a month. And the hard drive failed after about a year and half.
It has also developed a strange problem: sometimes it runs very slow when on AC power and as soon as the AC power adapter is unplugged it runs fine. It is very repeatable; the cpu usage goes up and down as the power adapter is plugged and unplugged. There are discussions on the web by other HP notebook PC users with similar experience. The cause appears to be the power low condition from the adapter is incorrectly detected by the PC and the PC reduces the clock rate to save power. It corroborates with the fact that the CPU clock rate stays at 777MHz (instead of 2.6GHz) regardless the power scheme setting when on AC. Other people have corrected the problem by replacing the power adapter.
Given the many problems that I experienced with the HP notebook PC 8510w and also HP PhotoSmart 2575 printer, I don't think I'll buy another HP product.

Sony VAIO(R) VPCEB16FX/B 15.5" Notebook PC - Glossy Black Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this laptop in June 2010. Initially it seemed decent, although it comes loaded with bloatware and battery life is so short that you won't be able to finish a movie without plugging in. Trackpad is occasionally erratic. On the bright side, it plays Blu Ray DVDs and has a numerical keyboard.
Three months after the purchase the hard drive started failing. The computer would occasionally freeze while hard drive is making loud clicking noises, like a clock. Sometime it would just stay like that until I force the hardware shutdown, and sometime it would reboot by itself. Either way, whatever you were working on is lost. Even worse, sometime after the boot a message "no operating system found" would show up. Note that I am a rather advanced user and take good care of my computers, including antivirus protection and regular maintenance. My computer at work and another laptop at home run identical software to what's running on this Sony, and have shown no signs of trouble whatsoever.
I did run a Seagate (manufacturer of the HDD) diagnostic utility which returned a specific error code and a message that "hard drive has failed an important diagnostic test" and that I should contact the OEM (that would be Sony) to exchange the HDD if it is still under warranty (which it is). Also, checkdisk reports more and more bad sectors over the past few months.
I contacted Sony customer care in order to get the problem fixed. After literally hours on the phone over the past months, I am still nowhere close to getting my computer fixed per warranty. I was first told that I should call them when ready and they will send me a new HDD and the return envelope for the old one. The next time I called I was told that in fact they will have the technician call me back "within three business days" to schedule a home visit and check and replace the HDD as needed. A week had passed, but no one ever called me back. I called again and now got a different story - that the technician will not be visiting me, but that they will ship a replacement drive and I will have to ship the old HDD and provide credit card number, and if Sony determines that HDD was not defective, they will charge my credit card. They would not answer my question how exactly they would determine if the HDD was defective or not. Finally, they started insisting that I run Sony VAIO diagnostic tool, and provide the error code it returns. The problem is, this tool reports that the hard drive is "OK". Note that at some point a Sony representative played a recorded sound over the phone which was exactly identical to the clockwork clicking noise I get when the computer freezes, meaning they are well aware of the problem with this kind of HDD. Also note that another diagnostic tool from Seagate does detect the drive as faulty and in need of replacement.
All in all, I am left with a computer that randomly freezes and reboots due to a faulty HDD, but so far I haven't been able to get it fixed even though it is well under warranty. I will definitely not purchase any Sony products in future, as I expect a manufacturer to promptly honor the warranty and make sure their customer is happy with the purchase.

I bought this powerful machine about 6 weeks ago and it works absolutely flawless. I use it for work and it is running at least 16 hours per day. Battery life of the 12-cell battery is superb. Compatibility with peripherals is the best I have seen with any PC (thanks to Windows7 ??). I am running 2 additional screens with it without problems, using the Toshiba DynaDock docking station and the external VGA port on the laptop. I also use a 1TB WD USB HD with SmartWare for automatic back-ups. Also flawless. I will return to this review site, if I ever run into issues with this machine. So far, I'd say, you can buy it without hesitation.

If you don't care about the lack of a CD-ROM or a floppy, this little laptop is the greatest ultralight. With the extended life battery I get around 6 hours of continuous operation at my normal levels (if you dim the screen a lot, you can get closer to 8). It's comfortable, quiet, and reasonably fast. What it loses in lack of removable storage media (like a CD-R) it makes up in networking--it comes with integrated wired ethernet, wireless, and a modem. This little laptop rocks.
On a less utilitarian note, this laptop is really small and sleek. You'll be proud to show this one off to your friends and family. They don't get much cooler-looking than this.
For those of you who care about it, Linux installs with very little headache (and less for you than me now that I've figured out all the things that *don't* work; see [URL] for my install notes).

I say this laptop is great for casual users, but I use this thing HEAVILY. I bought it from WalMart in May and it's been great for me.
I play World of Warcraft and Sims 3 on it with no problems (I've also been playing beta for Aion and Champions online, both of which require a decent system to run).
I watch movies constantly.
And music sounds great on this system. It has a built in Tuba bass system which I had to find a way to turn down because it was turned all the way up for some reason.
I've had 40+ tabs open and loading at in Firefox at one time, and it just barely starts to run slowly.
The battery life is a big downer. Maybe an hour and a half if I'm watching a movie. Mine has stayed plugged in almost it's entire lifespan, because I really only use it at the house.
But all in all, it holds up well with normal wear and tear.
Acer customer service sucks though. I actually had to return my first laptop because it came with a BIOS password (which there aren't a lot of ways to get around) and Acer said they would take it off for $150 - even though it came that way! And not a single person I talked to actually spoke English. I ended up taking it back to WalMart and they switched it out for me.
I give this laptop 4 stars. It works great and I haven't had any problems other than the initial mix up.

My experience has been pretty limited, but as I have not read many reviews about the Edge with the Neo 1.5 GHz dual core processor, I thought it was worth discussing.
My first thoughts are the build quality is good, but not quite up to typical ThinkPad finish. I have the matte black finish, but it's not the same rubberized black finish that ThinkPad's are known for. This is just a matte black plastic. I was a little disappointed. The keyboard is as many have said - fantastic. Very quiet, feels great. Lenovo did a great job with the design.
The screen is fine. The trackpoint is as expected. If you are new to ThinkPads, I think this is where there is a real productivity enhancer over a typical laptop. If you type, then use the mouse, then type, then use the mouse... in a typical setup you have to move your hand. With the trackpoint, you don't move your hand from the typical typing position. It saves time and energy. The middle trackpoint button serves as the scrolling down mechanism that most mice have. Overall, it's been a great design for the past 7 or 8 years for ThinkPad's, and I think most users once acclimated will appreciate it. Even if you don't, the trackpad is smooth and good.
I had read casual remarks from PC Magazine saying that the performance of the Neo processor was bad which made me concerned at first... but I haven't really found that to be the case. Windows 7 installation was relatively fast, installing the typical programs was relatively fast (VLC, Firefox, iTunes) I bought this computer to surf the web and write email. The performance exceeds my expectations for that. My home computer is an i7 2.6 quad core, so I'm used to speed, but I haven't been disappointed. I watched some youtube videos which tend to be flash and processor intensive, no issues there. I have not watched any downloaded videos yet, but the graphics card is superior to the GMA 4500HD, so I would be shocked if there is an issue. The wireless download speeds from some websites were pretty impressive. I use a Dlink MIR-655 wireless router and I was downloading from Apple's site at over 1MB per second. Not bad. Overall, it seemed crisp. Not what I was expecting from an "underpowered processor"
The computer doesn't run very hot... but it can be somewhat warm. I haven't tried a laptop that isn't. My lone complaint so far is that when the computer is working hard, the fan turns on, and it is audible. Not really loud, but audible. Audible even when the TV is on. Fans should not be audible on a ULV processor. Write that down Lenovo.
I was torn between this computer and the Dell Vostro v13. Ultimately I decided on this device over the Dell because the ThinkPad had the trackpoint, a well reviewed keyboard and a removable battery. I think I'm happy with my decision, but the Dell is without question a better looking device. Style over substance? In this case, I went with the substance.
Update 2/11/2010: After a day or two more, I can give some more insight. I attempted to watch Lost in 720p streaming from abc.com last night and had mixed results. When not running full screen, the processor can keep up. When running full screen, it can ALMOST keep up... but unfortunately, falls short. This isn't the biggest of deals, but I think users would want to know this before purchasing the machine. Watching streaming video in bed is just one of the many joys of owning a laptop.
Another thing that I didn't note is the sound. The speakers are located under the front of the keyboard. In your lap, sound is muffled and not good. This design is more ideal for a table or laptop pad. If you use the edge on your lap, you will experience poor sound.
Also, it definitely runs a little hotter than my wife's 2-3 year old macbook. That is kind of surprising. The battery life on the Neo is worse than the Intel Core Duo option, and I think that extra juice is turning into heat as the ThinkPad Edge review of the core duo processor has minimal heat issues.
In closing, I still like the laptop, but there are definitely compromises and issues that keep it from being easy to recommend. The Dell Vostro V13 at $650 is probably a better decision for most, albeit over $100 more than what I spent once you include delivery.

I got this laptop at Best Buy a few months ago and had to sadly return it. It was an amazingly gorgeous laptop, nice gloss, flat black accents. Not to mention how thin it was and STILL had a cd/dvd drive. THe only thing that made it a huge disappointment was how slow it was. Because it was a solo processor, and not a dual like most standard computers, it didnt run many apps as fast as other laptops.
Such a shame. The best looking laptop I could find, but slow.

I bought my still brand new HP Touchsmart TM2T tablet laptop in May, 2010. I absolutely love and adore my TM2T. Everything about my TM2T is topnotch! The build design, speakers and speakers placement, audio quality, display graphics, coolness, speed, keyboard, webcam, dual mics, tablet function, build quality; Every single thing about my HP Touchsmart TM2T is just about as close to perfect as any tablet laptop to date. I'm so happy with my TM2T that I'm planning on getting a 2nd one. I have been searching for a tablet laptop this nice ever since they were being produced! I highly recommend this rugged, excellent tablet laptop to anyone, professional, home bodies, and students and business people alike! Thanks for reading!
