Running Underwear

runningboxer

A large number of people have gotten interested and serious about running, whether it is to lose weight, stay fit or just to get their mind off things. If you are one of these people who have taken running seriously and would like to continue to do so, you have probably thought of what to wear when you’re running, especially when it comes to your running underwear.

There are many different kinds of underwear for running, different runners would wear different running attire-it is obviously based on your preference.

Running shorts

A lot of runners prefer ‘running shorts’ as to opposed to running underwear. Running shorts include a built-in liner to make running easier for you. Running shorts are usually worn without underwear; there is a ‘mesh’ inside that lets the ‘goods’ breathe. Imagine running for hours in the sun-you will definitely be sweating in your underwear for long periods of time…and that is not a very pleasant thought. Running shorts will allow air to come in to keep you cool and comfortable as you run.

Compression shorts

Compression shorts are similar to cycling shorts and are made from spandex, and are usually worn by athletes. This is a good choice to wear for running underwear since compression shorts are also considered as undergarments. They keep the muscles warm and this helps prevent fatigue and strain. It also prevents chafing and rashes and keeping sweat away from the body. They also keep the ‘family jewels’ in place.

Runners would need to get compression shorts with a shorter inseam of around 3-6 inches. Those that are made for made for basketball, football or soccer have an inseam of 6-9 inches. Common brands that have compression shorts are: Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, 2XU, Skins, McDavid and Easton.menslycraunderwear

Things to consider when running

You might want to check if the running underwear you are considering buying has a built in support liner that prevents the underwear from showing when they get damp (or sweaty).

Consider the weather

Make sure to consider the weather when you are choosing your running garment. During the summer, running shorts would be a good choice but during the winter when temperatures can drop it would be a good idea to wear tights. Whatever your preference may be on what running underwear to use, make sure that you are comfortable enough to be able to enjoy your run.

We might not have the same opinion on what the best running undergarment will be because that would actually depend on each person. As long as you don’t bother onlookers with what you’re wearing, and they are comfortable for you – everything will be fine ;)
