Toy Story 3 - To Infinity and Beyond One Last Time

There's good news and bad news about the upcoming release of Toy Story 3. I'll start with the bad news first, which is that the movie is in fact a "three-quel." You see, in Hollywood, the dreaded sequel to a sequel almost always means less story and dumber plots.

They're seen as a way for the big movie studios to "cash in" one more time by bringing back characters that everyone has grown to love and throwing them into a poorly written script that inevitably ends up bombing and casting a dark shadow on the entire franchise. Our love for the characters forces us to buy a ticket even though deep down we know it's probably going to be terrible.

So that's the bad news. What's the good news? Come on, it's Pixar, people! The same groundbreaking animation studio that has been wowing audiences ever since the release of their first computer animated feature back in 1995 (which coincidentally was the original Toy Story).

The films that followed, including such prestigious titles as Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, WALL-E and last years Up, have all went on to become monumental successes, earning a gazillion dollars world wide and solidifying Pixar as one of the most predominate film studios on the planet.

And now Pixar, along with the powerhouse that is Disney (the company's long-time collaborator), look to add another blockbuster to their resume by once again bringing back Woody and Buzz for the upcoming release of Toy Story 3. A fan favorite among filmgoers, the Toy Story franchise is still Pixar's most beloved title and is considered a classic as far as I'm concerned.

The studio made a sequel to the film in 1999 that was suppose to be a one-hour STV (Straight To Video) release. But after being pleased with the script and seeing how well the animation was turning out, Pixar decided to make it a theatrical release. Turns out it was the right decision as Toy Story 2 went on to gross more than the original at the box office.

And now, eleven years after the first sequel, they toys are back in town. Toy Story 3 has most of Pixar's usual suspects attached to it creatively, including John Lasseter who is credited with the collaborating on the story and executive producing. The movie was directed by Lee Unkrich (a co-director on the second film) and the screenplay was written by Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine).

A big reason why the first two films were so successful was the chemistry created by the cast of characters and the voice talent that portrayed them. Thankfully, everyone from the first two films has returned for the third including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as everyone's favorite Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear. Favorites like Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head and John Ratzenberger as Hamm are also on the roster as are newcomers like Michael Keaton who voices Barbi's love interest, Ken.

The film touches on some very somber themes with a plot that revolves around Andy, the young imaginative boy who owned all the toys, going off to college as a young man. Obviously too old for his toys now, he decides to get rid of them and hands them off to his mother, who ultimately donates them to a local day care facility for all the young children to enjoy. With Woody and Buzz and the rest of the toys facing a huge turning point in their lives, they must face their new world head on and learn to let go of their past.

So, why a third film? Why would Pixar risk ruining the good name that is Toy Story? Well, according to John Lasseter, it's all about the story that the movie tells.

"The secret to these films is that each movie is not trying to repeat the same emotion or the same story," says Lasseter. "We go into something completely different, with the same set of characters and the same world. And therefore we're able to tap into a completely different set of emotions. Once the toys are alive they become adults with adult concerns. Everyone can relate to these characters. Looking at the world from a toy's point of view is one thing, but looking at it from a character's point of view makes it a deeper and more emotional thing. Audiences are able to relate to things in their own lives. This movie has a totally different kind of emotion and depth to it."

He goes on to say, "And in the third film, we really deal with that point in time that the toys are most concerned about-being outgrown. When you're broken, you can be fixed; when you're lost, you can be found; when you're stolen, you can be recovered. But there's no way to fix being outgrown by the child. It's such an interesting evolution to the story."

I think it's safe to say that with Toy Story's giant fan base, the film doesn't have to worry about being a summer blockbuster, because people will see this movie in massive numbers. But will the story be considered worthy of the first two? Well, with a plot that already sounds more emotional and meaningful than the first two, I think it's fair to assume that Toy Story 3 will in fact live up to its franchise's reputation.

Toy Story 3 in 3D Will Be a Summer Blockbuster

It doesn't take an IMAX 3D showing to know that Toy Story 3 would be a summer blockbuster. It's bound to happen one way or another - with or without advanced technology. But this summer, in 2010 on June 18th, kids and grown ups alike will revel in what Disney-Pixar has put together as Woody and the gang once again find themselves in peril, trying to get home to Andy.

The storyline is that Andy decides to keep one toy out - Woody - and intends on putting the others in the attic as keepsakes. But Andy's mom accidentally throws them in the trash, and they escape the dumpster by sneaking into a box bound for donations to Sunnyside Daycare Center.

Trials and tribulations ensue as Woody tries to convince the gang that Andy didn't abandon them so that they'll want to try to return with him. A typical Toy Story movie wouldn't be complete without some sort of sinister plot, so you'll have to be in theaters on June 18th to see which person or toy tries to keep Woody and friends from returning home.

The original script was completely different for the third installment of the Toy Story movies. It was supposed to be about the toys sending Buzz off to Taiwan to get repaired, but he winds up recalled instead.

The IMAX 3D version of the movie ensures that this time, we'll get to see the characters come to life even more so than in the past. You get to see the same beloved character you've grown to know and love - Woody, Buzz, Jessie - and Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head among others.

But this time, you're also going to get introduced to many new characters via the big screen - including Lots-o-Hugging-Bear, played by Ned Beatty, Stretch, voiced by Whoopie Goldberg, and American Idol finalist Lee Dewyze as Twitch.

And before the movie comes out, be on the lookout for the video game version of Toy Story 3. It will be available on June 15th for the Wii, PlayStation 3, and XBox360 consoles. And the dastardly Zurg is back as a character that you can play.

In addition to the video game launch, Mattel and Lego are set to release toys based on the film. You'll be able to find Lots-o-Huggin-Bear on store shelves - a pink, strawberry-scented plush bear. It's rumored that there will be a Mr. Potato Head whose pieces fly off if you talk too loud around him.

Make sure you mark your calendar for June 18th and go see Toy Story 3 in 3D this summer - it's bound to be a blockbuster and you're guaranteed a good time, whether you're a child or an adult!

Toy Story 3 - Is This the Movie That All Merchandisers Have Been Waiting For?

So what have Pixar done this time that will please an ever growing audience of Toy Story movie fans and also the many, many companies who produce merchandise that fills our departments stores? Well there are a few new characters such as Rex, an endlessly worrying and insecure dinosaur or Twitch, an awesome half man half insect action figure. This will enhance the product ranges of many merchandising companies and enable more products to be generated by the increase in demand once the film is launched. Action toys are a good example of this as each comes individually packaged and allows for a collection to be built.

Will Toy Story 3 capture the imagination third time around? This is a definite yes, as already many product manufacturers remember the huge demand for Toy Story 1 and 2 merchandise. It helps that there are still the big name stars behind the new version, Tom Hanks as Sheriff Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and now Michael Keaton as Ken, not forgetting Whoopi Goldberg as Stretch. If that does not do it then perhaps the fact that the new film will be released in 3-D may get the audiences flocking to the cinema to see how many of the characters have adapted to this format.

Can Toy Story 3 top Avatar as the biggest grossing film of all time? Avatar managed to gross over $2.7bn in 2009 and with Titanic way behind on just over $1.8bn in number two position it will be interesting to see if Toy Story 3 is able to capture a bigger audience in 2010. Disney and Pixar have been slowly releasing more trailers and established promotions with companies such as Lego and Mattel as the launch draws nearer. Only recently Steve jobs of Apple showed a demo of Apple's new iPhone OS 4 using an iAd for the new Toy Story 3 movie, which gives the new film a premium promoter. All this promotion is sure to get shoppers turning out in their thousands to get their hands on the latest toys, video games and many other forms of merchandise.

With the credit crunch not long behind us, it was surprising to see the popularity and expense paid out after the Avatar launch, it it just goes to show that even in times where money may be harder to find, we still manage to make sure our little ones have those latest toys and games that are brought about by new movies such as Toy Story 3.

Toy Story 3 Landfill Play Set

There are three levels of play in this set, each recreating specific parts of the scene from the movie. A large scoop dumps the toys into a sorter; the sorter puts them on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt moves the toys from one level to the next. The final level of the set is the incinerator, and kids have to quickly rescue the toys, moving them to safety with the crane.

The Toy Story 3 Landfill Play Set is a large set that is geared towards children 3 to 6 years of age. The set has rounded edges, and easy access to all moving parts including the conveyor belts and the grappling hook, dump basket, and incinerator trap. Included with the set are a Buzz Lightyear figure, three green aliens, and a Lottso bear figure. Figures are 2 inch scale figures, and suitable for ages three and up. The set also comes with a moving bulldozer.

So far, parents have given this toy incredible reviews. They appreciate the rounded corners on the set, and the chunky size of the moving parts. Kids seem to enjoy creating their own Toy Story adventure every time they play. Kids can start at the incinerator working their way to the conveyor belt, or vice versa. The Landfill Play Set is also interchangeable with other action figures available from the movie. While it only comes with Buzz, Lottso, and the aliens Woody and Ham both move easily down the conveyor belt as well.

This is a great buy for anyone wanting to give the little one a creative way to occupy his or her time. The sturdy plastic, kid safe edges, and chunky figurines are what most parents have come to expect from Pixar and Disney alike. The ability of the child to creatively make up his/her own adventure, differently every time, makes this a great toy. Like Toy Story toys of the past, this is likely to be a difficult to come by toy this holiday season.

What New Plot Does the Toy Story 3 Trailer Unveil?

Buckle your seat belts on June 18th, 2010 because Andy's toys are going on another wild adventure! The Toy Story 3 trailer only shows a few cute scenes of a Ken doll meeting Barbie, and so on - but the real story is much more exciting!

In the Disney-Pixar version of Toy Story 3, which will also be shown in IMAX 3D this year, Andy's heading to college - and the toys aren't put in the attic like they're supposed to be.

Andy picks his one favorite toy to keep with him - Woody, of course. The rest of his childhood friends are supposed to be put in the attic, but Andy's mom has a mishap and accidentally throws them away!

Hurt and distraught, the toys make a break for it and sneak inside a donation box heading to Sunnyside Daycare Center. Upon their arrival, Woody finds it hard to convince the others that Andy didn't mean to get rid of them - and some of them want to start over with the daycare kids.

Woody doesn't give up on Andy and tries to make his way back home - but not before he gets packed up and sent home with Bonnie, a daycare kid. At Bonnie's house, Woody meets some other toys - including Mr. Pricklepants, who details the horrors of what it's like to be a daycare toy at Sunnyside.

While all of this is going on in the Toy Story 3 movie, Mrs. Potato Head's eye goes missing - and it shows the toys the truth - that Andy didn't throw them away at all - that he still loves them and is searching for them.

And of course a Toy Story movie wouldn't be complete without some toy villains in the mix. Some of the Sunnyside friends aren't so nice - and they're out to sabotage the newcomers.

The movie is fast paced and riveting. A few obstacles prevent them from getting back quickly to Andy and the race is on - he's leaving for college soon! Poor Buzz gets hurt and begins speaking in Spanish, causing all sorts of problems.

All of the same character voices have returned for this Toy Story release, including Tom Hanks as woody, Tim Allen and Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Michael Keaton is introduced as the Ken doll and Whoopie Goldberg as stretch.

Watch the Toy Story 3 trailer to catch a glimpse of what the movie is all about, and then mark your calendars to see it in full on June 18th, 2010 in theaters nationwide - in IMAX 3D for the best visual effects!

Buzz Lightyear - Toy Story

Toy Story is a 1995 American computer animated film. This is the first Disney/Pixar film to be made, as well as the first feature film to be made entirely with computer generated imagery (CGI). Toy Story features a group of toys who pretend to be inanimate and lifeless whenever human beings are present. This story focuses on Woody, a pull string cowboy doll and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure.

Buzz Lightyear is a fictional character in the Toy Story franchise. As can be depicted from his costume, he is a space ranger and is the main deuteragonist (the second most important character, after the protagonist and before the tritagonist). Buzz Lightyear is famous for his catchphrase "To infinity and beyond!" The voice that brings this character to life in the Toy Story film trilogy is Tim Allen.

Buzz Lightyear was first unveiled on Toy Story as a birthday present for Andy. However at this time, Buzz does not realize yet that is just a toy, and insists on believing to himself that is the real Buzz Lightyear. The reason for this is made clear on the second film: He was placed on "hypersleep" before embarking on his mission - before packed in the display carton, that is. Unfortunately, all Buzz Lightyear toys are similarly unaware of this fact. Additionally, he supposes to possess a fully functional equipment that is just made out of sticker and LED. As a consequence, this conviction causes friction between Buzz and Woody (Andy's previous favorite toy). The other toys in Andy's room are fascinated with Buzz's doo-dads and gung-ho attitude, making Woody viciously jealous.

Andy's next door neighbor Sid Phillips has been kicked out of summer camp earlier and Woody tries to explain to Buzz that Sid is a child who tortures and destroys toys just because he finds it fun and endearing.

Andy prepares to go to a family outing at the space themed Pizza Planet restaurant with Buzz. Woody attempts to misplace Buzz by knocking him out to fall behind Andy's desk. However, Buzz is thrown off the window and is thought to be lost. The other toys think that Woody is trying to get rid of him. Using both stealth and agility, he manages to survive all the challenges with Woody until he finally accepts the fact that he is just a toy after watching a TV commercial of Buzz Lightyear Action Figure. Buzz's attempt to escape the house of toy-destroying child Sid's house fails, earning him, instead, a broken left arm.

Hannah, Sid's sister, customizes his outfit and dresses him up as a woman. She calls her "Ms. Nesbit" and invites him to her tea party. When Woody finds him, he has fallen into a nervous breakdown leading to depression after finding out the truth. However, with positive encouragement from Woody, Buzz has gradually come into terms with truth, eventually leading to his acceptance of the truth. To escape the wrath of Sid, He teams up with Woody, and together, they are able to reunite into the safe and warm comforts of Andy's room, along with the other beloved toys.

Good Reviews for The Toy Story 3 Landfill Play Set

Fisher Price has outdone its brand again because of the latest Disney Pixar movie that wowed adults and especially kids, The Toy Story 3. Fisher price made a toy exactly like the Toy Story 3. The Toy Story 3 Landfill Play set is sure to be one of the best-selling toys Toy stores will provide. The recent toy highlighted the last part of the Toy Story 3 where Buzz Lightyear needs to be rescued by Woody because of his entrapment in the Tri-city dumps.

Kids who already purchased the Toy Story 3 Landfill Play set reviewed the day and surprisingly made good reviews. They toy itself has three levels each recreating scenes from the film. Parents reviewed that the product is best for kids because with the moving parts the kids get to use their imagination. Parents also love how the toy is made with its sturdy plastic, round edges for safe playtime and the chunky sized parts that will be very difficult to swallow. The Toy Story 3 Landfill Play set is only suitable for kids ages 3-6 and definitely not below the age bracket to ensure safety.

This makes it possible to easily access the moving parts which made it easier for kids even without the help of their parents. Kids can easily move the parts independently. So far the toy only got good reviews especially the round edged corners that is very safe and this usually is the first thing parents check when buying toys for their kids. Sharp-edged corners are dangerous so they are very grateful and secured with the edges they toy has. This assures parents a safe playtime for their kids.

Other characters from the film can also be purchased and can be played in this. Have the round-up gang (except for Stinky Pete) rescue Buzz Lightyear. Use Slinky's spring to help Buzz Lighyear from his entrapment and for a more play, have Lotso and throw him out the Tri-city dumps just like what they did in the movie. Kids will definitely enjoy the this especially fanatics. It's like they are playing as one of the characters! Play in Woody's shoes or in Buzz's! Rich imaginative play is expected and nothing beats a good imagination for kids.
