live shows, and am pretty satisfied with it, as it generally does
what it is supposed to do. It does (despite adjusting the high and
mid-tones) sometimes produce a tinnier sound than I'd prefer, but I
can't be sure as to whether this is due directly to the mixer or to
the sound systems it has been connected to. The USB-to-computer
recording feature is convenient, but for certain instruments it is
difficult to get enough volume output. However, it is important to
note that I am by no means a professional sound engineer, and have
a lot to learn about how to optimize my equipment. All told, there
is a lot of music I wouldn't have been able to produce without this
mixer, and I certainly couldn't beat the price.

complaining that they can't hear themselves in the mix, this is the
perfect product to solve that. Lets back up...if you are a vocalist
trying to hear yourself or to do harmonies, it is almost impossible
if all you have is the main mix in your phones. This device allows
you to take, say, the direct feed from your vocal channel and plug
it into a stereo input...for each channel. The three singers in my
band each have an output that they are able to mix into the main
mix. The result: "more me" since my vocals are boosted above the
other vocals and instruments. And you can't believe how much better
you can sing when you can actually hear yourself.
Of course, the other vocalists can hear you too, but they can
mainly hear themselves, so everybody can sing their parts without
getting disoriented by the other vocalists
You get two stereo inputs for all the channels, and you can mix
them together, so you could theoretically have a backing track mix
on A and a click track on B. If the drummer needs the click, mix
heavy toward B. If you are a singer and dont need to hear the
click, mix heavy toward A. Then, boost your own personal direct
signal from the mix board so that your vocals stand head and
shoulders above the other stuff. NOW you can hear!!!
This is one of those products I'm constantly inventing in my head
that don't exist, except that this one does, and with more features
and flexibility than I ever would have imagined. Plenty of volume
in the headphones, nice clean sound, and you can hook up six
headphones to this thing, each with individual A/B track mix and
"more me" mix input. Pricey, but worth it. This thing is a game
changer. As the guy who usually gets the middle David Crosby part
in the harmony matrix, I no longer get confused, off pitch, or
lost. Bring it on...I can sing ANYTHING now...

Headphone Amplifier/Mixer
"Turn my headphones up!" "More me, I can't hear myself!" "Turn down
that click!" It gets old. Change that tune with the HP60 headphone
distribution system. The HP60 is more than just a half-dozen
headphone amps, it's a field-tested solution to a host of common
headphone-monitoring problems. Let's start with "turn my headphones
up." Each of the HP60's six headphone amps has its own level
control and puts out 150 mW, which is loud enough to drive the
alligators out of the Louisiana swamps. If they can't hear this
headphone system, they're stone deaf. More likely they'll scream,
"turn it down, you're killing me!" Problem solved. Now let's solve
"turn down that click." The HP60 features two sets of line-level,
stereo inputs that are routed to all six headphones, a Mix control
that sets their relative levels for each headphone output, and a
mute switch for each headphone. So you can feed the main
control-room mix to channel A and the click to channel B and use
the Mix controls to individually raise or lower the click relative
to the main mix for each musician. Problem solved. As for "more
me," in addition to the two pairs of main stereo inputs, you get an
external stereo input pair with level control for each headphone
channel. A Mono switch lets you sum the left and right inputs. So
you can send each of the whiners a feed of just their instrument or
voice and can control the level separately for each. Problem

Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key
Portable Grand Piano Premium Pack
If you’re looking for a reasonably priced piano replacement, look
no further than the YPG-235. It is the music student or
professional musicians’ answer to “I need more keys!" and many
music teachers encourage new students to get a keyboard that will
grow with their needs. It features 76 non-weighted keys that not
only look like piano keys but have a Graded Soft Touch (GST) action
with different levels of resistance, making it easier for a budding
musician to move to an acoustic or digital piano. The YPG-235
delivers on its piano theme with a special mode of fingering called
Full Keyboard Mode. This allows the player to play the keyboard
like a piano; for example a chord with the right hand and bass
notes with the left. When using the accompaniment feature, the
virtual band will follow these chords. Traditional portable
keyboards normally require you to chord on the left side of the
keyboard, in the bass section, which is foreign to most piano
players. The YPG-235 is also capable of this mode, for those who
prefer it.The YPG-235 also has 30 built-in songs plus 70 more on
included CD-ROM for you to learn to play using the Yamaha Education
Suite. The songs are separated into left and right hand parts,
providing 7 levels of lessons plus a convenient chord
dictionary. This package includes a pair of professional closed-cup

sound system in our church. The two main reasons I choose this
Snake was its leangth and the fact that it has XLR returns instead
of TRS. The box is well made, durable and is ready to be mounted
against a wall. So far we haven't had any trouble with any of the
connections having loose wires like i have had with some other
Snakes that I have worked with over the years. Overall I recomend
this Snake for anywhere that it will have a permanent

(More customer

your mouse and are looking to spend as little as possible... there
are two big choices. PreSonus Faderport ($150) and Frontier Design
Alphatrack ($200).
Faderport - PROS: PreSonus put most of their money into the
fader... it's an alps fader used in many higher end consoles.
Nothing fancy. It is intuitive and to the point, but still has what
I want and need... a good fader and transport control.
Easy to install.
Small.
CONS: Wall-wart. It is bus powered, but you need the AC adapter for
fader automation.
You can only automate volume and pan. (protools user's! If you have
a track selected with the faderport with pan automation, protools
will lock to the pan control of the faderport and will not play
back the written automation until you switch to another track. This
is a known issue that PreSonus says they are working on for an
upcoming firmware update.)
Alphatrack - PROS: Controls; volume, pan, EQ, plugins, and
automation.
3 encoders instead of 1.
Jog and shuttle strip... (this is really cool.)
Bus powered.
LED screen with track/eq/plugin info.
CONS: NOT Intuitive... It took the guy at G***Center over 30
minutes just to get it to do anything. And after another 30 minutes
could only get the fader, pan and transport controls to work. (I
never did get to automate any plugins with it.)
The fader was sluggish and when it played back the automation in
kinda shook and was loud. (check out youtube.com "faderport vs
alphatrack" and see a side by side comparison.)
The LED screen was hard to navigate through and the user
programmable controls (which only work with native software, not
HUI emulation) are labeled F1- F8 which may take a while to
remember.
Slightly bigger then faderport.
OVERALL: I went with the faderport. While there are a few quirky
things I've had to deal with (in protools, so far it has worked
great with sonar) it's still straight forward, serves its purpose
and does what I need it to do. It gives me the ability to feel and
touch a mix. The transport controls alone make it a great asset,
not having to reach for the mouse every time I want to arm, mute,
solo or record a track. As for the alphatrack, the fader on it
alone was enough for me to steer clear. But, the fact that it was a
fight to get it to work at all (and never saw it fully functioning)
put me over the edge... I fight with enough stuff to keep
everything running.

(More customer

way, except for one major problem... the mixer will not sit flush
if you need to use XLR or 1/4" plugs, for there is simply not
enough room between the rear of the mixer and the rear of the case.
Had they made the case one inch wider, this would be a flawless
product. As it stands now, I had to cut, with a utility knife, a
few areas of the case's rear foam just so I could create enough
room to facilitate my XLR plugs. How could they not think of this
ahead of time? I am satisfied overall, simply because every other
ambit of this product is flawless, but I wonder with amazement how
RR didn't approach this problem.

(More customer
reviews)My audio "system" is a Wife's Nightmare: 45 SE
tube amp (about 1.5W), a DC Darling SE tube amp (about 0.75W), A
1626 p-p amp (~3 W), and a couple of EL84 P-P amps (Heathkit and
Dynaco, about 15W each), plus a SONY TA-2000 "sand" preamp [truly
excellent, BTW], a Phonodude tube preamp, a Quad 303 "sand" power
amp, and a pair of 2A3 P-P mono-blocks under construction. Plus
miscellaneous tuners, tables and assorted junk. Wires literally
everywhere.
All this low-wattage stuff drives a pair of Altec A-7 clones (811
horns and University 15" HC woofers with ONLY a 6dB high-pass
filter using big PP caps; NO low pass filter, just natural drop-off
of the woofers). Speaker efficiency is about 103-106dB/W at one
meter, so 1 W is all you really need indoors. You audionuts will
also recognize that this also means that I can hear ANYTHING and
EVERYTHING (clicks, buzz, hum, thumps, etc) with these speakers, so
any coloration from the equipment will show-up in spades.
If you can understand all that audio gibberish, you'll recognize
that I am (a) nuts, and (b)probably pretty good with a soldering
iron and oscilloscope. Guilty on both counts.
Since my teenagers are iPod fanatics, I discovered that Apple
iTunes has a proprietary coding called Apple Lossless, which allows
you to rip stuff to a hard-disk in ~half the space of a CD with no
loss of audio data. So as a digital music experiment I sprung for a
512Meg 40 Gig Mac Mini and added a CHEAP 200 Gig Seagate external
disk. The Mac is tiny and essentially noiseless; seemed perfect for
the application.
I got the M-Audio Firewire as a soundcard for the Mac Mini,
figuring I could use it with any of our PCs if the Mac experiment
didn't work-out. Web reviews seemed uniformly excellent so I didn't
think there was much risk.
NOW one side of the giant home-built audio table is digital; MAC
Min w/ Seagate 200 G HD, old keyboard and small LCD, and the
M-Audio Audiphile Firewire. The M-Audio Audiophile is usually
hooked to the Sony TA-2000 preamp BOTH in and out, with the Heavy
Iron (vacuum tube stuff) on the lower shelves. We have about 12
DAYS of music in there now. DAYS, I said.
To rip vinyl to the MAC I use ClickRepair and Amadeus programs
[both highly recommended and VERY easy to learn]. The Sony allows
monitoring with any of the power amps and the ALTEC speakers, or I
can use headphones plugged into the SONY OR the Firewire.
To play digital, we just click on the iTunes and switch the Sony to
AUX.
This set-up literally allows me to compare computer digital (thru
firewire)with CD player (a moderate priced Sansui) with "real"
vinyl (currently from Thorens 318 table with various cartridges;
not fancy but pretty nice).
The sound from the Firewire is completely colorless, as near as I
can tell. That's high praise, coming from a Tube Guy.
Comparing digitized (er, RIPPED) vinyl to REAL vinyl is VERY
interesting, as SOMETIMES(e.g. a high quality disc but with bad
scratches) the ripped version played through the Firewire is more
enjoyable than the "real" thing, as the S/N ratio is way better and
much of the vinyl qualities seem to remain, especially if you're
conservative with the digital doctoring (leaving-in the minor vinyl
glitches, that is).
Some mono vinyl (esp. RCA Shaded Dogs)ripped with this set-up are
simply terrific; one Anna Moffo disk of various Arias is a real
stand-out with nice crisp upper registers, great depth, and the
rustle of sheet music that you can't hear on the "straight" vinyl.
The tube stuff and the Altecs probably don't hurt, but I figure
that the Firewire's got to be performing very well too for this to
happen, doesn't it?
I've had the Firewire for a couple of months, but I am writing the
review NOW because the system just passed the ultimate test this
evening; when I came home from work, the wife had powered-up the
system herself (this alone requires a BSEE, a wiring diagram, and a
flashlight. Rubber boots are a nice accessory, too)and was playing
Ritchie Havens' "Here Comes The Sun" at full volume. Wow. Woodstock
III (or whatever number we Boomers are up to now) right in the
driveway. Very cool. Rock on, Garth.
Buy one. Only a few more $ than a good internal card, but works
with any computer with a 1394 Firewire connection. Looks terrific,
nice rugged construction (almost tube-worthy). Easy to install
(warning labels ARE a little much, though), and once installed,
just sits there and works great.
Gotta go play some ripped vinyl.

(More customer

a soft foot, which was fixed with a little physical persuasion and
a some extra rubber on the one slightly elevated corner. The rubber
alone would probably have done it. Low on extra rubber feet and
patience, both worked out just fine. So it also passed a stress
test with flying colors. Hopefully there won't be a drop test.
Anyway, I'm really surprised how useful this item became after
purchasing it. Recording directly to a computer was leading to a
problem with interfacing multiple inputs and outputs. I was
considering an internal PCI solution with an external harness, but
even then, the tether was looking really short and I didn't want to
have to crawl behind the computer for every time I switched ins or
outs.
Monitors are great for mixing, but usually pretty sparse on bass.
Not having a trained ear, or used to monitors, it's extremely
convenient to be able to get a bass reference at the push of a
button. "This is how it sounds stark clear and honest ". At the
push of a button "this is how it sounds with sub-woofer and how I'm
used to hearing music". I still need that crutch for leveling bass
guitar and kick drums. Granted I'm a novice, but if there is any
influence of the purity of the source sound, I certainly can't hear
it.
There are two (left/right), 1/4" "ST1"/"ST2" and one RCA
(left/right) inputs (The aux input has it's own "input" level
adjustment. I'm using one for my sound interface mains MOTU
UltraLite-MK3 Hybrid FireWire/USB2 Audio Interface , one for the
return and the aux RCAs, on an old mixing deck.
Both the the "Main and "Cue"outputs, have individual options of
using any combination of the three "ST1", "ST2", or "AUX (RCA) "
inputs. The "Cue" mix has it's own main level knob and the large
center knob, controls the level for the whole unit. In addition
there are three dedicated "A", "B", "C", outputs. Each has it's own
level adjustment, so there's no problem keeping consistent volumes
with different speaker sets, monitors etc 8" Monitor Speaker .
There are four, 1/4" stereo headphone jacks, each with a button
selecting either "Main or "Cue" as the source, with individual
level knobs for each. The internal microphone works great across
the cue mix, which also has it's own individual level adjustment
and an XLR adapter is provided on the back, for an external "Talk"
microphone.
I'm extremely satisfied with this unit and regardless of any
upgrades I may have in the future, as long as I'm dealing with any
analog source whatsoever, I can see it being invaluable for years
to come.

(More customer

do deliver quality sound. I used 2 of these for an outdoor gig and
the music output was evenly dispersed with clear highs and mids and
with punchy bass. My only regret was that some of the MP3s I played
were encoded with bitrates of only 128kbps, such that the
compression levels' musical deficiencies were exposed by the
clarity of these SRM450V2.
My advice would be to use a good mixer with balanced XLR cables and
a nice CD deck (to play CDs of course!)as well. You would also be
well-served by using a subwoofer to augment the low frequencies,
especially if you crave body-stopping and head-pounding bass.
These second-gen SRM450s are also 11 pounds lighter than the
first-gens.
Pros:
1. powerful and clear sound output, with even and wide dispersion.
This translates into wide coverage and most people being surprised
to find just a couple of speakers putting out such huge sound.
2. relatively lightweight, considering its dimensions
3. sturdy construction
Cons:
1. I can't find one yet.
The other brands I've checked out (powered speaker cabinets only):
JBL EONs, Peaveys, Behringer Eurolive Series either are not much of
a value relative to the Mackies ( JBL EONS sound just as good as
Mackies but are more expensive) while for the Peaveys and
Behringers - somehow, the sound they put out was flat and hollow.
The Mackies have a "full" sound. Try listening to these at your
local music supply store.

less than $15 each, I figured I would get what I paid for. These
cables are very high quality, though. The cable itself is nice and
thick, with more of a pliable rubber feel than the stiff plastic
types most cables are. The ends are very high quality, and are
connected to the cable with a very solid, flexible boot, so you can
be sure that it would take a lot to break a connection. I gig
regularly with these cables, and am extremely happy with this
purchase.
