(More customer
reviews)It does what it says- it makes my Kindle
waterproof and protected from the elements. It's also very easy to
close. Click click click and done; sturdier and more reliable than
my trusty ziploc bag that I used to use for waterproofing.
My only complaint is this, and if there is a solution, I would love
to hear it:
I have the K3 all nice, snug and tightly-waterproof in its red
padded Waterguard. I put the Kindle aside for a few minutes and it
goes to "sleep". When I return (or wake up?) -- I have to take it
out of the safe, waterproof case with my wet (or sandy) hands to
turn it back on. I do understand the procedure to keep it dry when
opening it up, but it's a little time-consuming.... and putting
openings for the power button would not be possible (and stay
waterproof) so I'm not sure what the solution could be.
I tried pushing the Kindle up higher to push the power switch on
but that is making a "thin" place in the clear plastic from my
fingernail.
Any solution and I'll edit this to a FIVE star because it
definitely keeps it waterproof.
Edited to add: great customer service! See the comment to my
posting. I'm impressed with a company who cares about customer
reviews! I'll 'up' the review to a 5 because of the customer
service.

(More customer
reviews)I bought this to replace a Creative Zen Vision:M
30 GB MP3 and Video Player (Black) that had been stolen. I really
liked my Zen, but I wanted to see what new stuff had come out in
the time since I bought it. This led me to getting the Archos 605
80GB instead, mainly because of the optional TV hookups. I've never
liked to watch movies or TV shows (or even music videos) on my PC
monitor because I can't relax and enjoy something passive while I'm
at my computer. I'd also never used the Zen's video capabilities
much because the screen was too small. The Archos 605, on the other
hand, could be hooked up to a TV (with the DVR station or other
accessories--I bought the DVR station), which would allow me to
watch downloaded TV shows and movies in comfort--and even better,
with other people (it's difficult to crowd around a computer desk
to watch a movie), plus I'd be able to watch stuff on the go with
its larger screen.
The wifi access, web browser plug-in and PDF reader also helped
sell me on the Archos 605. I particularly looked forward to being
able to read ebooks in PDF format.
So when I ordered the Archos 605, I was thinking of it as an MP3
"with benefits."
When the Archos 605 arrived, I found out that its screen was
totally large enough to watch video comfortably. Shortly after I
got it, I watched two and a half seasons of Weeds on it. It's
fantastic! I can carry a TV show into the kitchen to grab a snack,
etc. When I'm home alone, I'm even able to rely on the built-in
speaker--for TV shows, I don't need fantastic sound quality; I just
need to be able to hear what they're saying. It's very cool; I'm
very addicted. :)
Like I said, I bought the DVR station with it. I had wondered how a
video file from the Archos would hold up enlarged on a TV screen,
but no worries--the picture quality is good (we have a 32" set).
I've recorded some stuff from our TiVo onto the Archos, and the
picture quality is good in that direction, too. Since we do have a
TiVo, I haven't used the Archos as a DVR (with the downloaded TV
listings and scheduled recordings), so I can't say how easy that is
to use, but it's definitely easy to manually record something, and
I was happy to see that I could tell it how long to record for.
As an MP3 player, it's not as good as the Zen, simply because it's
not, primarily, an MP3.
One way the Zen (and probably most other MP3 players) is a better
MP3 player than the Archos is that if you power the Archos 605 off
while you're playing music, it doesn't automatically start up where
you left off when you turn it back on. Instead you boot up to the
main screen, and then you have to tap the "resume" icon; otherwise
nothing happens. In this way it's less "plug and go" than my Zen
was; sometimes if I'm only going to be driving for a few minutes
(like a hop from the grocery store to the gas station), I won't
bother starting it up at all. Also, the way you lock the controls
takes a few seconds longer than the Zen did. With the Zen, you just
slid the switch to the lock position. With the Archos, you hold
down the TV button until the lock icon appears on the screen.
If you're playing from a playlist when you turn the unit off, and
then you hit "resume" after you turn it back on, it doesn't seem to
resume the playlist--it does indeed play the song you were on, but
it's playing it from the album instead of the playlist, so the next
song after that is the next song on the album, not the next song on
the playlist. Possibly this is glitch that will be fixed in a
firmware update (or perhaps has been--I haven't updated my firmware
in a couple weeks).
Finally, changing the play mode (normal, shuffle, repeat one,
repeat all), takes a lot more navigating around than it did on the
Zen. It really shouldn't take that many clicks.
Sound-wise, the Archos is good as the Zen was, and its drawbacks as
an MP3 player aren't so onerous that I'd consider buying a separate
MP3 player. The Archos does well enough.
The PDF reader, however, turned out to be a disappointment. First,
it takes several (loooong) seconds to go to the next page. Second,
there's no way to bookmark where you are so that you can pick up
where you left off. I figured I could just remember what page I was
on and use the Go To Page feature to get back to it, but the Go To
Page feature uses a slider, which is nowhere near as quick as if
they'd let me type in a page number, and it takes a long freaking
time for it to then load that page. Ugh. So this thing definitely
hasn't replaced my Palm Tungsten for e-reading.
I haven't used the web browser or wireless much. It seemed pretty
slow the times I have, and there's no "tap feedback" in the Content
Portal, so when you tap on a link, you often don't know whether the
tap has registered or not because the screen stays the same while
the Archos (slooooowly) downloads the data for the next screen.
That's frustrating. The web wasn't as frustrating as the Content
Portal; I just haven't had much of a need to use it.
Another downside is that there aren't any cases for it that will
protect the unit while allowing you direct, immediate access to it,
the way the skin I had for my Zen did. Instead it comes with a
padded, envelope-like case that you have to slip the unit
completely out of if you want to use it. (To be fair, it's much
better than the cloth pouch that came with the Zen.) Leather case
options are limited, and all the ones I've seen require you to open
the case in order to view the screen or access the navigation. The
one from Archos won't even let you turn it off with the case
closed, which isn't very handy if you're listening to audio and
want to shut it off quickly.
I don't know how many hours I'm getting out of my battery. I did
listen to music for 10 hours on a recent road trip without it
giving out on me, but I didn't keep going to see how much more I
could get out of it. I've also watched a couple hours of video
without it running out of juice--and again, I ended up dropping it
in the DVR station (which charges it) before it did run out, so all
I can say about the battery is that it's lasting long enough for my
needs.
Despite the caveats I've listed above, I LOVE my Archos 605. I love
being able to take TV shows and movies with me everywhere. I love
that I can finally watch bootleg concerts and other stuff I've
downloaded on the "big screen." It's easy to use. The DVR station
is easy to use. The two work together seamlessly. The Archos holds
a ton off stuff. It plays my music. It lets me browse the web if I
need to.
I'm happy with it, definitely. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed
that future firmware updates will make me even happier with it.

to hundreds of tools, right on the device. The package contains
seven widgets, including a calculator, a currency converter, a unit
converter, news, weather, a note writer, and a data vault.

(More customer

observations:
It appears to be decent craftsmanship - I only see one "mis-stitch"
which is good for a < $20 product. However, the magnetic clasp
and hinge are a very slightly different shade of brown and
different texture. I don't know if they are made of real leather or
man-made leather, and the color difference is hardly
noticeable.
Product has so far a strong "leather" smell -- This can be a plus
or minus, depends on how you feel about that particular smell. I'm
sure it will wear off in a few weeks.
It functions well as designed. It's easy to move from kickstand to
handheld. The case gives my thumbs something textured to hold onto
next to the page turn buttons. Buttons, keys, and charging port are
all fully accessible when kindle is in case. When closed, the case
offers good protection for the kindle.
The one thing I don't like is that it feels like it weighs as much
as the Kindle. Amazon doesn't list the exact product weight and I
don't own a kitchen scale. But I usually hold the Kindle in one
hand while reading, and can see myself occasionally removing the
case when I want to read for long periods.
Other than the weight, I recommend this case.

(More customer

Out of the box, Windows reports this has 490MB available. This is
due to the different ways storage manufacturers and Windows
calculate capacity. In Windows, 1MB=1024KB, 1KB=1024B, whereas for
storage manufacturers, 1MB=1,000,000B, so "512MB" is really less
than that as calculated by Windows.
Most PSP games seem to use about 600KB - 800KB for user data
storage. Most MP3 songs encoded at 128kbps bitrate come out to 1MB
per minute. So if you have two games and use the rest of this
Memory Stick only for MP3, you can hold about 122 songs. Not
something to write home about, but you can always download your
favorite tunes to the Memory Stick and play them when you take a
respite from gaming.
It's difficult to say how much video you can hold, because that
depends entirely on how you encode (bitrate, audio quality, etc.).
As a rough rule of thumb, this card can hold about one hour of
acceptable-quality video.
You can access this Memory Stick Duo card by either hooking up your
PSP to your PC directly (using a $5 mini-B USB 2.0 cable), or using
a USB reader. I use the Sony high-speed reader (model # MSAC-US30),
which is super-reliable and super-fast. If you have a third-party
reader or laptop that can only take the full-size Memory Stick --
"Memory Stick Duo" cards are less than 50% of the full-sized Memory
Sticks -- this package comes with an adapter that turns the Memory
Stick Duo into a full-sized Memory Stick.
Sandisk has a 1GB Memory Stick Duo card for about $125, which is
also a good value. But in the past I had inconsistent reliablity
experience with Sandisk products, so I much prefer using a Sony
Memory Stick Duo. 512MB is okay for now, but I think I'll need at
least 1GB for the full PSP experience: one movie, a couple short
videos, 30 or so of my favorite songs, and game data for a few
games. I imagine it'll be another year before 2GB Memory Stick Duos
come down to the $100 level.

(More customer

its prices for B&N Nook gear in competition with its Kindle
product line of e-readers. Looked at every option available for a
travel cover to protect my Nook and hold various accessories
without becoming another piece of luggage.
The footprint of the cover is small and fits like a glove, securely
holding my Nook. It will fold back on itself and zip up for easy
reading. Gives solid protection at all potential drop points as
well as the screen. The zippered pocket is expandable & very
ample for charger adapter and screen protectors. Back pocket can
hold credit card, passport, room key, cash, etc. securely if taking
to the pool or outdoors.
The black ballistic nylon cover is tough and the look subdued since
I really don't want to draw attention to the unit in my carry-on,
poolside, etc. It's well-made and really has exactly the features I
desired.
The unique slot designed for M-Edge's Illuminator light is handy
and fantastic for reading in unlighted areas. I just ordered the
light on Amazon but purchased the Kindle version (same product)
because of the Nook bias I mentioned. The Kindle labeled model was
cheaper and qualified for supersaver shipping.
I'm extremely satisfied with the Latitude but a bit miffed that
Amazon continues to penalize Nook users by bumping prices on items
virtually identical to their Kindle accessories.

(More customer

husband has had one for his K1 for about the same time.
I think they are great. They hold my Kindle in place snugly, yet I
have complete access to all the buttons, the on/off, the headphone
jack, the volume control.
It has a nice padded cover that protects the screen.
And since the Kindle slides in, I don't have any issues with clips
splitting the plastic, and I don't have to worry about elastic
slipping on the corners.
The cover folds back allowing me to hold it with one hand.
The leather is a nice quality, and looks very expensive. I've spent
a lot on purses with leather of a similar quality.
The only problem is a lack of colors to choose from. We both went
with the tan, and I would have loved to have something brighter and
more individual, but hey, with all the pluses, I really can't
complain about that.
I get an attractive case that provides great protection for my
Kindle and great functionality.

(More customer

chance to do some testing with it. Overall I am impressed with all
of the features and functions it has. There are some quirks and the
instructions are poorly translated but for the price I feel the
total package was a good deal.
DVD - It plays DVDs well - the screen is rather clear for its size.
I wouldn't equate it to an ipod or iphone video screen but it has
more than adequate resolution for a tiny screen. Hardly jagged
edges if at all. Excellent viewing angle and lots of color/tint
contrast settings that I can adjust. I'm playing the DVD through an
overhead mounted LCD screen and the resolution is adequate for
passenger viewing but not HD... so don't expect perfection
here.
CD - the sound is great but out of the box the display of the
track, time, etc is so small it can hardly be read. I am not sure
if the display size can be adjusted or not in CD mode (haven't
tried yet).
Radio AM/FM operation - works good; it appears the pre-sets must be
done automatically, I haven't found a way to set my own stations.
Since there are no preset buttons I supppose you just auto-program
and skip from station to station. Not quite as fast as presets but
close enough. The display is much better for AM/FM radio than for
CDs, it has nice big letters and selectable backgrounds. Clock only
shows military time from what I can tell (i.e. 00:00 to 23:59).
Remote control works good out of the box. Button presses are
reliable. To FF or RW a DVD, hold down the skip forward or skip
back buttons while aiming at the screen.
When switching between sources, there is a short period of blue
screen with source name listed, then the desired selection will
show.
Touch screen is easy to use and seems to associate finger vs.
intent rather accurately. Not too soft or squishy. Detachable face
detaches and attaches akwardly but easily enough. When removed, the
rectangular LED under the disc slot blinks slowly to indicate
anti-theft while the car is off. I appreciate this because higher
end units seem to have gotten rid of the blinking LEDs when face is
detached (at least Kenwood has).
The instructions included with the unit are sparse. Some areas not
translated into english very well. However, I had no problem
installing because the wiring all matches the aftermarket in-dash
recevier convention for colors of wires. There is a matching wiring
diagram on the bottom of the unit affixed as a sticker, in case the
one in the manual gets lost or is not available. A large square
connector is at the end of all the wires to facilitate testing at
the factory. It must be cut off to allow for installation to a
vehicle specific pigtail adapter. Manual didn't explain this.
The brake wire (gray or brown) from the back of the unit needs to
go to a ground (-) source when the car is not moving (example:
parking brake or foot pedal brake). If your brake activates a
positive lead like my Dodge pickup, you'll need to find another way
to ground the unit to be able to see the video on the 3" TFT
screen. Whenever this lead is connected to ground, the video will
show on the detachable face screen. The video output always shows
through the video out port regardless of brake wire connection or
not.

the pool or while floating in a pool lounger without the risk of
damage to my Kindle. The zip top feature is very tight, and there
is an additional safeguard of a fold over and snap-secured cover. I
was a bit hesitant to purchase this case, because I was concerned
that the plastic cover might provide glare when used in direct
sunlight. I am pleased to say that is not the case. Additionally,
all of the controls function well inside the cover except the
on/off switch. I don't see how that challenge could have been
overcome without compromising the watertight functionality, so I am
fine with opening the cover to turn it on or off. That is a small
inconvenience for the greater safety benefit you get from this
case.

compartment for the device is more fitting. The front side is
transparent. There are no more seams between the transparent window
and the border in the front. This makes the case even more durable,
yet provides more flexibility and area of interaction. The
WaterGuard Waterproof Case (TM) guards against any wet environment
that Kindle 1,2 and 3 might be exposed to. It is a perfect
companion when you bring your Kindle for beach reading. It provides
great protection when you get stuck in a rainstorm or accidentally
drop you bag in a wet surface. When using the WaterGuard case, the
Kindle can be slipped directly into the WaterGuard pocket and the
transparent surface provides easy interaction with the keyboard and
navigation buttons. Limited Warranty: the contents of your case are
NOT covered by our warranty and should be insured separately by
you.

Average Reviews:

(More customer
reviews)I got this before I received my Kindle 3.
It's actually supposed to fit the Kindle 2, but the K3 is fine in
there. It isn't exactly snug, but I think it provides great
protection. I suppose that if you dropped it it wouldn't perform as
well as one that fits it really snugly, but hey-- for eight dollars
it's a great in-the-house case.
The Kindle 3 slips right in and out easily and quickly, so I don't
have it sitting around on top of the case (as often happens when a
case requires a millisecond of effort to use. This one is simple as
can be. The Kindle won't fall out, either, as long as you put it
back in. That's because it's envelope style, so the flap comes down
to keep it in place.
I can't think of any downsides to it except if you had it in a
purse, you'd have to remove the case to remove the Kindle. That's
not a deal breaker for me, though.
The interior is a little fuzzy/suede-y (maybe faux fur), so it
won't scratch the screen. The exterior is faux leather, and is
pretty stiff. (Think of all the fauxs that had to die to make these
covers!) I'd be comfortable throwing this case in my bag.
