Colorado Citizens Announce Third Try for Personhood

Inspired by Mississippi?s efforts for Amendment 26, Colorado citizens have rallied behind the third attempt at a Personhood Amendment in Colorado.

Today, Personhood Colorado has filed language for a new personhood amendment with the Colorado Secretary of State?s office, sponsored by Kevin Swanson and Rosalinda Lozano.

Rosalinda Lozano is a Denver resident, native Coloradan, and committed member of the Catholic Church. Along with a history of volunteering for previous personhood amendments and various prolife efforts, Rosalinda is sponsoring the Colorado Personhood amendment at the same time that she is working to open Lighthouse, a Medical Center dedicated to helping women and presenting alternatives to women in crisis pregnancies. Lighthouse is set to open in early 2012 near Planned Parenthood in Denver, which is the second-largest abortion facility in the nation.

Sponsor Kevin Swanson hosts the daily radio program, ?Generations Radio?, which is the world?s largest homeschooling and Biblical worldview program. Kevin is the father of 5 children, the Executive Director of Christian Home Educators of Colorado, and committed to seeing that every child is protected from abortion in Colorado.

The Colorado Personhood Amendment marks a departure from traditional, one-sentence personhood amendments, which have been among the shortest ballot initiatives in the United States. The new amendment was written by Gualberto Garcia Jones, legal analyst for Personhood USA and a founding member of Personhood Colorado, and Kristi Brown (n?e Burton), sponsor of the 2008 Personhood amendment.

The language of the new Personhood amendment includes the following definitions:

(a) ?PERSON? APPLIES TO EVERY HUMAN BEING REGARDLESS OF THE METHOD OF CREATION.

(b) A ?HUMAN BEING? IS A MEMBER OF THE SPECIES HOMO SAPIENS AT ANY STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT.

The new Personhood Amendment language also details effects of the amendment. After the amendment is submitted to the Secretary of State?s office today, the sponsors will wait to receive approval from the Secretary of State before beginning the petition process.

Gondola Resorts Announces Headquarters Move to Lower Downtown (LoDo) Denver, Colorado

Denver, CO January 16, 2012

Gondola Resorts, the vacation rental company of choice for ski resorts in Colorado and Utah, announced today the relocation of its national headquarters to Colorado in the LoDo district of Denver. The headquarters also includes its Florida affiliate of Orlando.

The company will occupy space at The Oxford Annex Executive Suites located at 1616 Seventeenth Street, just across the street from Union Station, and 3 blocks from Coors Field. The new location will provide employees with proximity to transportation hubs and Denver?s thriving local lower downtown business community in addition to RTD?s FasTracks Light Rail System.

FasTracks is RTD?s voter-approved transit program to expand rail and bus service throughout the Denver metro area. FasTracks will build 122 miles of commuter rail and light rail, 18 miles of bus rapid transit service, add 21,000 new parking spaces, redevelop Denver Union Station and redirect bus service to better connect the eight-county District.

In 2011, The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded RTD FasTracks of Denver with a $ 1.03 billion Grant for a light rail train system to Denver International Airport and to the city of Arvada and Wheat Ridge.

FasTracks is the largest transit grant awarded by the Obama Administration to date.

Gondola Resorts officially began operations in the Oxford office in early December 2010. The organization will continue to provide full check-in offices at all of their resort locations including Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Park City, Orlando, and Telluride, through affiliate partnerships. The move has allowed the organization to take advantage of the current real estate environment, and provides a cost savings which will help better serve their vacation rental customer’s business needs at 10 different mountain resorts and sun/beach locations nationwide.

The PeaceJam Foundation is proud to announce the addition of 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Co-Winner Leymah Gbowee as the 13th Nobel Peace Laureate to join their board of directors. PeaceJam is the only organization in the world to have so many Nobel Peace Prize Winners as active board members working together for a common purpose,  engaging and empowering the youth of our world.

Gbowee, 39, led a peaceful women’s movement in Liberia, which played a pivotal role in ending the Liberian Civil War. She and the women of Liberia also took a powerful stand against the use of rape as a weapon of war. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway in December of 2011, together with Co-Winners Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Tawakkol Karman.

Gbowee came of age in a war-torn country. After dealing personally with the displacement, chaos, and death associated with war, she began to believe that the women of her country would be willing and able to put a stop to the Civil War which was then raging in Liberia. After training as a trauma counselor and working with former child soldiers, she joined the Women in Peacebuilding Network (WIPNET) and became their voice as they called for an end to war. Her outreach to both Christian and Muslim women created the Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace movement, the efforts of which led to a meeting with Liberian military dictator Charles Taylor himself and the resuscitation of high level peace talks. The pressure they exerted was instrumental in pushing Taylor into exile and smoothed the path for the election of Africa?s first female head of state. Gbowee is now leading the Liberia Reconciliation Initiative at the behest of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and she also serves as the Executive Director of Women, Peace and Security Network Africa (WIPSEN-Africa).

The PeaceJam Foundation, an international youth development organization, was launched in Denver, Colorado in 1996. A new grassroots company has surfaced in the area recently.  They’re calling it, 10-24.  Selling products handmade by various people around the world, 10-24 exists for the purpose of helping the people who make the products towards a greater good.  Like their tagline says, they exist for the good of others.

Established by Jason K Powers, 10-24 is a kind of spin-off company of former non-profit, North East India Project (NEIP).  “I saw how our economic development portion of NEIP was so successful, and was sad to see a lot of it die out when NEIP closed its doors in 2010,” Jason says.  “I was always convinced we could take various aspects of the things we did in North East India regarding economic development, modify them a little bit, and continue helping people earn a supplemental income.”

10-24 is currently selling over 50 types of hand-woven bookmarks, and various handmade greeting cards.  “We’re going to start small, take our time, and do it right,” explains Jason.  The bookmarks are made by a women’s self-help group in a small village in the jungles of North East India.  By purchasing these products buyers are helping them to earn a supplemental income which allows them to help support themselves and their families.  Their current line of handmade greeting cards are made by a man who assists in running an orphanage in Kashmir, India.  Buyers who purchase these greeting cards and helping him, the children of the orphanage as well as the people who make the paper.  “It’s quite an impact that purchasing these cards will make on the lives of the people over there,” Jason says.  “I’m really excited to see where this can go as we move forward.”
