Ok... you have an event LOOMING in the calendar.... Christmas,
Valentines, Thanksgiving, Soccer Tournament, Tuesday... you need to
make an appropriate cookie... what to make, what to make.... Basic
Sugar Cookies are a perfect tool for your baking arsenal. They are
simple, made with the basic ingredients- Flour, Sugar, Butter, and
Eggs (ok, and some Vanilla). And you can make them ANY shape you
want to. Yup... any. My little one INSISTS on doing hearts with
loads of sprinkles for Valentines Day.... but I've done Hearts,
Snowflakes, Turkeys, Soccer players, Dinosaurs and even Palm Trees
(it was a Tiki Party). Mix up the dough, roll it, and cut out your
favorite shape... then bake. You can decorate with icing and
sprinkles...or bake the sprinkles right in. Yum! Then EAT!

Ok... in case you think I'm all about cookies and chocolate... I've
got this fantastic recipe for a Lemon Pound Cake that I got from my
Oma. It's delicious.. I love it in the middle of the afternoon with
a cup of tea, but I have a friend who swears it's perfect for
breakfast. Bake it the day before you want to eat it.... it tastes
better after soaking for a day.

Well, ok, I guess there are lots of things you can do with a Sugar
Cookie, besides eat it I mean... Hockey Puck, Slingshot Target
Practice, a really large one might fly like a frisbee, and then
there's the ever popular 'how many times can you skip your cookie
on the lake?' I guess I mean, basic Sugar Cookie Recipe. Seems like
it should be versatile, and it is. Sandwich Sugar Cookies are what
happens when I put two of the same shape together, fill the space
with Jam or Nutella. Wahoo! you have a party in your mouth. Trust
me. Looks fancy, tastes marvelous, AND you get to eat TWO cookies
at once. Cut them in an appropriate holiday shape, and you're good
to go. Enjoy

The idea for these cookies came out of the mouth of an 8 year old.
We were getting ready for a soccer tournament, and I wanted to take
along some cookies for snacking. My daughter loves chocolate
chip... but then she said maybe she'd rather have chocolate
chocolate chip... then she said maybe we should have Oreos
instead.... or maybe chocolate cookies with white chocolate
chips..... At this point, my head started spinning and threatened
to come off. I ended up combining all of the ideas into one really
chocolaty and very delicious cookie. Enjoy

I love streusel... I just do. Steusel Cake? I could just pick the
top off. (mom used to spank my fingers for that!) But this streusel
cake, filled with cranberries and a hint of cinnamon and orange,
makes me swoon. It's got a holiday feel, but you can make it any
time of the year. Use up all those cranberries you bought in
October and stuck in the freezer for when you'd really need them.
After trying this cake, you'll hit Costco for the extra big bag.
