Swiss Miss Coming to Keurig Single Cup Brewers

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc just announced the deal with ConAgra Foods Inc. ConAgra makes the very popular Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa that will now be packaged in a Keurig K cup for use in any of the Keurig Coffee Machines. Keurig is owned by Green Mountain. Keurig Coffee Makers are the leader in the fast-growing U.S. market for single cup coffee makers with a more than 80 percent share.

“The Keurig Brewing System… can easily make… a mug of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa.” said ConAgra Foods Consumer Foods President David Palfenier.

“We are excited to welcome Swiss Miss into the GMCR family and to offer Keurig users the leading hot cocoa brand in K-Cup portion packs,” says Green Mountain President and CEO Lawrence Blanford.

According to the press release – “The new Swiss Miss K-Cup portion pack will hold the perfect amount of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa to create a delicious, sweet and classic beverage that will appeal to the entire family.” Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa should be available for Keurig consumers beginning by August.

Swiss Miss started selling in grocery stores in 1959. It is considered by many to be the “original” hot cocoa. The cocoa is made in a real dairy where fresh milk from local farms is delivered daily, dried, and mixed with premium, imported cocoa. This should be evident in the new Swiss Miss brand K Cups.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed by either party.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters makes Keurig home and office sized Single-Cup brewers. ConAgra is a producer of a large line of consumer food products.

Starbucks Coming To Keurig’s Single Cup Brewers

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (the parent company of Keurig Coffee Makers) and Starbucks signed a deal to bring their Starbucks brand coffee to Keurig’s single cup brewing systems. In addition, Tazo (a tea company recently acquired by Starbucks) will have their own branded K Cups to use in the Keurig Coffee Machines.

The companies will start selling the coffee and tea branded Keurig K-Cups on line and in supermarkets sometime this fall, and at the 11,000 Starbucks stores nationwide in 2012. Also to note, Starbucks will start selling the Keurig Coffee Machines at the stores after that.

“That’s a really tremendous market opportunity for us,” said Michelle Stacy, president of the Keurig business unit for Green Mountain. “One of the things it offers the consumer is yet another fantastic brand among the array of brands that we have.”

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Dunkin’ Donuts, recently signed a similar agreement that will make Dunkin’ Donuts coffee available in single-serve K Cup portion packs for use with Keurig Single Cup brewers. Soon Dunkin’ Donuts will offer 14-count boxes of authentic Dunkin’ Donuts coffee in single serve K Cups. They will sell exclusively at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.
