What Can I Do with My Older Playstation 3?

I have an older 80GB Sony PlayStation 3 console. I've played this thing for 4 years now and it just broke down. I plan on purchasing the newer slim model but was wondering what I should do with my old one? Is there a place I should take it to for recyling it? I know it's probably illegal to just throw it away in Ohio (correct me if I'm wrong), so can anyone help me out on what I should do with it?

The other people are silly. I'm assuming your PS3 got the YLOD? If the HDD is what caused the YLOD, it's pointless to sell the HDD. What you CAN do is sell the whole system, it's original controller and wires somewhere (like Ebay or Amazon) and you simply state that the system is NOT in working condition and sell it for $50-80 DEPENDING on the overall condition of the system, it's controller, AND include the wires it actually needs to function. Someone can always buy it from you and if they have the extra money simply get it repaired.

OR you can repair it and sell it for a bit more, but UNLESS you happen to have one of the PS2 backwards compatible models, it's NOT worth repairing yourself. Just sell it as is and you MUST STATE that it is NOT in working condition or it is illegal (fraud, which depending on where you live is either an indictable offence, or a felony and either way the punishment is severe.)

Actually there is a way. Leave the console on and cover the vents with towels, preferably more than one. This will cause the temperature inside the console to rise rapidly, melting the circuits back into place.

You can't you have to go to a store that fixes if it still has warrenty they give you an new one for free

Why Does My Ps2 Games Freeze on My Ps3?

first off, my ps3 is backwards compatible and its an 80 gig. second, when i put my ps2 games in my ps3, it would randomly freeze on me. i really like this game and want to play it. so what im basically saying my ps2 game freezes when i try to play. please tell my why and how i can fix this thanks

The 80 Gig model does partial software emulation of PS2 games, and isn't as compatible as the full hardware emulation in the 20 and 60 GB models.

Why it's freezing could depend on the game you're trying to play, and you don't say what it is.

I notice that ps3 doesn't have many cheats like ps2 does… i like using cheats because i can dominate the game. but ps3 games don't have many cheats not even game shark.. all it has is game saves.. it will would be cool for the people that use cheats could buy the cheats using the PSN & download them to use in the game. for example ( Infinite health 5.99 Infinite Ammo 2.99 ) and so on…. it would be cool & they could make even more money of their games.. yes there is cheats like for example i would go to youtube and formy game gta iv i would type in cheats for gta iv and it would show me all of the cheats i need and just type in a game then cheats for it and you can go to google also and do the same i have been doing this for about 3 years

Yes only on fat ps3.Because Fat ps3 are made to read old ps2 and ps1 games.But in slim they removed it.The only way is that you can download ps2 and ps1 games on PSN. Some games are on it.
