“Good basic inexpensive desk

I purchased this desk because I needed something basic and inexpensive for my small studio apartment. It arrived quickly, and assembly was relatively straightforward. It’s VERY small, however, and the construction is cheap. It feels sturdy once assembled, but the particle board components are very thin. (I actually punctured a hole through one of the boards while hammering in a hardware component, so be careful!)

I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a small, simple, inexpensive desk, but don’t expect the quality you’d find from a more expensive product.

PROS:
- easy to assemble
- compact
- looks nice
- side shelves for extra storage/display space

CONS:
- cheap construction
- small workspace (fits my 13″ laptop but doesn’t leave much room for other materials)
- very short- you’ll need a low chair!”

“DO NOT BUY THIS, VERY FLIMSY

This product is very flimsy and even when assembled properly it wobbles. The design is nice, however the particle board is paper thin (punched the wooden dowels right through the desk top) and the legs are plastic. I did try to beef up the desk and am requesting a refund. There is no manufacturers information or even an 800 number should you need parts or help with assembly.

You are better off going to a Target, KMart or Walmart to find an inexpensive desk of better quality.”

“I shopped all over for this type of Computer Desk. This is a Great Value for the desk here at Amazon. Several other stores wanted more for shipping than the cost of the item, which is non-sense. When I saw the price here at Amazon I knew I had found a bargain. I have had this same model of desk for several years. I bought this one for my son. The construction of this desk is excellent. It is very sturdy and saves a lot of space by being a tower desk. The wood parts are made of particle board covered with a Formica surface. The only improvement would be to have made the desk out of solid wood. This of course would have increased the cost 10 fold.

The legs are adjustable with screw out feet which allows one to level the desk easily. The pull out shelf for the keyboard works smoothly. It would help if a lock had been made on the pull out for the keyboard as there is a tendency for it to want to slide in. By pulling the shelf out all the way and drilling a small hole on each side of the shelf so a small pin or screw can be inserted it stops all motion of the slide out. If you have need to save a lot of space and want a very well made desk then this is the desk for you. By the way I found the instructions very easy to read and I put the desk together in less than an hour. A screwdriver and the alen wrench which comes with the desk is all that is needed to put it together. As usual Amazon is a money saver for quality stuff.”

“My daughters room is very small and I was afraid that the tower would still be to big but it is perfect. It fits great in the corner and with the shelves it leaves plenty of room for other things in her room. The only thing was that we had to turn the tower slighty because it did not fit front to back without hanging over the edge. The price was also a great price. I shopped around and everyone else wanted way to much. I highly recommend this product.”

“This desk arrived with a total of eight missing parts. Customer service via telephone had me on hold for so long I gave up (tried calling several times throughout the day). Emailing customer service generated no response.

I ended up welding this thing together and fabricating my own parts to replace the missing ones.

I recommend this if you have extensive metal working skills and can handle frustration. Note the sarcasm.”

“I received the desk in a timely manner, but when I opened the box, I noticed a small crack in the desktop. I contacted Sauder, and they immediately sent me out a replacement, and I didn’t need to go through the hassle of resending the cracked desktop. They were great! I would highly recommend this desk…although, if you’re not an avid “assembly-required” person, I would suggest calling a friend. I put it together my self in a few hours while watching TV. (Although I have put together MANY assembly required pieces!)”

“Pretty nice desk for the price. Was extremely easy to put together. If you get it, I’d recommend using a bit of gorilla glue on the joints, but that’s my opinion. Anyone a few bricks shy of a full load can put this thing together and you don’t have to be handy with the tools either.”

Sturdy. Easy Assembly. Suitable for anywhere a computer desk is needed.

“The desk is made of quality wood particle with plastic rods/tubes that link together. You will need a mallet or something to smash insert caps and two nails. Also, you need a Philips screwdriver. The directions are clear and easy to read. The desk dimensions of 23.6″(L) x 15.5″(W) x 29.7″(H) is accurate.

Once assembled, the desk shakes from the slightest touch, but it is a durable desk for probably 5+ years. The keyboard dock(?) is too small for my ergonomic keyboard and having the mouse on the desk is a bit awkward. Having a large 22″ monitor dominates the space, along with speakers.

*Beware! There are sharp and pointy corners on the wooden rungs(?) at the side. These are quite close to your feet, knees, hands, and possible running toddlers or other human-like substitutes. So I guess this is not baby proof unless you place caps or duct tape to the corners.

**One last thing to point out is that the top plate has a strip lining that goes around the edges. Be sure that the part that has the over-lapped lining is facing the side you don’t want to see. I just realize this after I finished placing my stuff on the desk. I don’t know if I want to uninstall it though.”

“This is a great computer stand. It holds a lot of weight on the top table. I put my laptop, recording equipment, a mixer, a lamp, and sometimes even a plate of food on it and it all fits. The bottom table is just as study. Mine is a little squeaky sometimes coming from somewhere on the inside of one of the legs. Other than that, you can’t beat this price.”

“I wasnt expecting a whole lot because of the price, but what I got was even more of a piece of trash. after putting it together it wobbles. I bought 2 of them, one I put together, the other one is missing parts and since it was such a piece of crap I decided just to throw it away. I dont feel safe putting anything(especially a laptop) on the one I did build, the legs are made of plastic and dont seem like they would hold much weight.”

“I searched diligently for a nice desk under $200 locally and online. I was getting frustrated since there seem not to be a lot of choices , and a few where just not which attractive. That desk caught my eye on another website however I waited per day to buy it since a lot of reviewers had been complaining on exactly how difficult the assembly was with the desk. It seemed such as the majority women and men thought it was an incredibly nice desk so I went ahead and ordered it. I received it rather quickly and shipping was absolutely free which was a plus.

I am going to agree and say the assemble requires patience; having said that, it is not really as difficult as a number of mentioned. It has a lot of small parts, mostly screws. I believe the reason for that is which that is an exceptionally well designed desk. I am from the middle with the pack as far as being handy, and I was able to handle it without much trouble. It did take me relating to 7 hours to put it together however I paced my self to make sure I did not mess up. A few women and men might cry at which amount of time nevertheless the end result is well well worth it.

Now about the desk itself…The wood on it feels such as real wood , not such as the cheap stuff you get at Walmart. It feels rather sturdy not wobbly such as a few other furniture you sometimes buys. The designed is great in which you have a cabinet for your pc tower to hide it and you have filing cabinet and 2 drawers. I such as the fact which you have a number of counter space between the your cabinets and top part of desk. It works great for little stuff such as Ipods, etc. The desk is hefty so here is a tip… BUY MOVING MEN SLIDERS AND PUT them about the LEGS TO MAKE IT EASY TO MOVE IT. I bought many at Target which stay on and they blend in rather nice with the desk.

So in conclusion , yes I wish the desk assembly was less time consuming nevertheless the end result definitely will make you forget relating to it. You can either buy a good easy to assemble desk which you might obtain from Walmart and then your not sure in the event that you such as it, or else you can suffer a little bit putting it together and be in love with your new work station . I would buy that yet again. Hope it helps someone.”

“This office desk was the very best value for money which i could get online. It arrived promptly and took me on the subject of 2 hours to put up. There are a lot of pieces to screw together, however i such as doing which kind of stuff.

It arrived with some minor surface scratches however nothing major.

This desk is the highest quality peice of furniture I have ever put together out of a box. The instructions were clear and precise and the peices fit together perfectly. The price was right and I love using this desk on a daily basis.”

My husband did the assembly work and said that the instructions were clear and all the pieces fit amazingly well together. The project took about 5 hours to complete and required two screw drivers (phillips and flat) and a hammer. Follow the directions step-by-step and take your time.
***His advice concerning tightening the “hidden cams.” Overdoing will cause the particle board to break up—under doing will lead to instability. Make each one very snug but don’t over-tighten. Don’t just turn 210 degrees. Each hole is slightly different and may require fewer degrees to achieve the correct expansion of the cam dowel***
We have an iMac so he made two shelves in the section designated for the CPU giving us more space for letter-size folders/portfolios and assorted papers.
I plan to get a desk pad to prevent the keyboard from scruffing the surface of the shelf. (Happened to the old one after years of use). We also bought different hardware for the drawers. Holes in the front panels were pre-cut so we just puttied them in.
Very satisfied with this purchase.”

“We own our own business and operate from home. We spend 40 to 50 hours per week on the stuff and its over two years old now and it holding up very well. It stylish as well as fuctional. We have the “L” desk, hutch and 3 lateral filing cabintes…now 4!. We actually wanted a 4 drawer lateral which they dont offer. I took a new lateral, did not install the top and then added some wood strips around the top edge for a place to attach the top one to. I cut off 1.25″ from the bottom of one of our existing cabinets and plopped it right on top on the new one. It worked out fantastically and only took me three hours including the building of the new cabinet. I took the extra top and use a few L brackets and slid apart the other two cabintes and made an extra desk space for a second user in the office. It looks totally custom. Great buy for the money. ”

“This desk really looks good, but it was a little difficult to assemble. But then most of these “some assembly required” furniture pieces can be a pain. The predrilled holes for the drawers were not lined up correctly. Delivery was awesome.”

Time consuming to assemble (I did both the hutch and desk at the same time – took 6 hours by my self)
Plastic “locks” on front keyboard drawer broke after 6 weeks of use (they keep the panel with the aesthetic handles up when not in use)
Not ideal for larger computer towers
Difficult to reach back of computer tower

Definitely not a good choice if you have small children who use the computer. Even for frequent adult users, the quality just isn’t there. I rarely regret my purchases, but this one is one I wish I had never ever made. Poor quality to invest your money in. Ah, but then, you get what you pay for. Pity … it looks so nice from a distance.”
