Very early on in my career as a Software Developer, I noticed that the internet is a very powerful resource for making money. In fact the internet has produced more millionaires today than ever before in the history of the world.

I sought out for knowledge on how to build a successful online business and bought many courses. All the courses that I bought taught virtually the same thing but using diverse approaches. They taught the following:

1. Research the market to identify a niche market in high demand: This involves using popular tools like Google keyword tool, Market Sumari and other keyword research tool out there.

The goal of this phase is to identify what people are searching and are willing to pay for. This step alone is enough to discourage the majority of people since it requires a lot of tenacity.

2. Build a product or service around your niche market: This is one of the challenging steps, because it takes a lot of time and effort in coming up with a product in this area that people will be willing to pay for. Some of the courses encouraged creating informational materials such as ebook, others recommended marketing other people’s product in the niche area if it’s too difficult for you to come up with a quality product yourself.

3. Build a website to market the product: This step involves setting up a domain name, a lot of importance is placed on keywords in the domain that will improve search engine ranking of the site. Therefore the domain essentially should contain keywords related to the niche market of your product. Building a website and hosting it is also part of this step, and more importantly the sales copy of your product that will sell it to your potential market. Not forgetting setting up your payment system, which is another crucial component of your website. Some of the course recommended joining merchant sites like Click Bank, Commission Junction and advertising the product through them.
The benefit of that is you get people to promote your product, however, these merchant sites take a percentage from your sales.

4. Driving traffic to your site: This involves doing keyword research, like was done during the research phase, to find out the best keywords that people interest in your product are searching. Ads can be placed on search engines like google, yahoo, bing or social networks like facebook. There are entire courses dedicated to driving traffic to your product.

5. List Building and Conversion: This involves capturing details of people who visit your site and setting up an email marketing campaign to convert them into customers.

By now you can see why most people find it very hard to succeed online. The truth is there’s so much involved that it most often becomes overwhelming for especially people without the necessary technical skills, who need to hire people for every step of the way. People have spent thousands of dollars without success, in contrast, there are very successful online marketers out there. It is just not the playing field for everyone and not everyone can succeed at that.

I tried this myself but had very little success. In my quest for a way out a stumbled upon an online business that virtually changed my life.

I am sure that some people are doing very well with such business ideas, but the fact is that making money online with e-tail or some of the other traditional business models, can sometimes be a bit hard and disappointing.

Affiliate marketing is a rather easy business to develop, not the in the sense that you will not have to work, but in the sense that it is not rocket science, so for anyone that knows how to write basic English this is a great idea to make a lot of money online, however, education has to be a part of the mix.

Forex or currency trading on the other hand is no different, you can make a lot of money online, but the idea is also to be well prepared to run this business. How do you prepare for it?
