Summary: Jamie's MA Geometry

This page provides access to syllabi, documents, and class information 24 hours a day. All Geometry all the time!

Review Solutions are here!

Here are the solutions to the unmarked problems on the exam review (Click Here). Remember that you know a tremendous amount of math. Don't forget two of the most important parts of exam preparation; Set yourself up for a good night of sleep and eat breakfast before the exam! See you Thursday.

Geometry Exam Review

Hopefully your exams are cruising along smoothly.

Here are the answers to the last third of the review problems.

Remember to review so you'll be ready to go in the morning, but most importantly remember to take care of these three things that might seem to be unrelated to your performance on the math exam, but are actually really important!

1 - Get a good night of sleep Tuesday night
2 - Eat breakfast Wednesday morning
3 - Arrive a few minutes early so you don't feel any added anxiety about running late to the exam.
See you tomorrow!

Wednesday 10.8 - Parallel Lines with Sketchpad

After starting with a short logic quiz we spent time in the computer lab exploring some of the properties of parallel lines.  Important terms for the day were:  Transversal, Alternate Interior Angles, Alternate Exterior Angles.  After the long weekend we will meet back in the computer lab to wrap up the sketchpad exploration and then head back to the classroom to practice some of our net skills.

Homework:
None

Monday 9.29 - More designing & an introduction to logic

Today we spend some time in class working on the project.  The entire project is due at the beginning of next class (Thursday 10.2).  You should have the following pieces ready to hand in on Thursday:

+  Your corrected perimeter and area calculations (if you had any mistakes)

+  Your neat calculations of the dimensions of the property in real life and the location of the property division.

+  Your neat calculations used to determine the scaled down size of the sports fields as well as the size and shape of your Community Center Building and the Parking Lot.

+  A Geometer’s Sketchpad print-out of the property with the property division and the location of the building, fields, and parking lots correctly drawn to scale.

+  Your neat calculation of the total cost of the project

+  A short written explanation of why you divided and laid out the property the way you did. Your explanation should be written in complete sentences, be typed, and be in the range of 250-500 words.  Your written explanation will be graded using this rubric.

In addition to time on the project we laid the groundwork for looking at some conditional statements and logic.

Homework:
Your only homework is to have your design project ready to hand in

Thursday 9.25 - Let the building begin...

Today we dove into the meat of our unit 1 design project.  We used the map of the property and began the process of scaling up to calculate the actual size of the property in real life and then worked to divide the property in half.

Friday 9.19 - Fun with Area & Perimeter

We started with a mapping warm-up.  After our hike around Bon Tempe Lake we shifted our focus to the relationship between area and perimeter.  With a little bit of practice we were ready to apply our skills in a new way and tackle the Area and Perimeter Challenge.

Monday 9.15 - Big Quiz and an introduction to mapping

After taking the chapter 1 big quiz we spent the rest of class talking about mapping and scaling lengths from a map to real life.  Because we ran out of time we will begin next class by trying to use a "map" of the outside wall of the classroom to calculate how high the windows are from the ground.

Homework:
Post Big Quiz Drawing Exercise

Thursday 9.12 - Wrapping up Chapter 1

Today we took a short quiz (remember to check your mailbox on Friday to pick up your graded quiz).  After the quiz we wrapped up our study of lines and angles including a few challenging example problems before the big quiz that is on Monday.

Homework:

Tuesday 9.9 - Angles are our friends!

We started class with Lines, Angles & Areas Warm-up.  After the warm-up we transitioned to a conversation about angles and pairs of angles.  A few practice problem including a bit of algebra before we finished with a short quiz.

Important terms:
  • Angle Bisector
  • Linear Pair
  • Vertical Angles
  • Supplementary Angles
  • Complementary Angles
Homework:
pg 39 / 45, 46, 59, 60, 63, 72  &
pg 47 / 26, 28, 29, 37-40, 46, 67

Note: Big Quiz (30-40 minutes long) will be next Monday (9/15).  The quiz will cover all that we know about lines and angles including the linear equation algebra we have been practicing.

Friday 9.5 - First lines, now angles

Today we made a connection between linear equations, graphing, measuring length and measuring angles.  We used the following exercise for practice.

Homework:
pg 29 / 1-4, 14-16, 17, 19, 20, 23-25, 38, 75, 77

Wednesday 9.3 - Don't call it a comeback, linear equations have been here for years

Reviewed linear equations including: graphing a linear equation, writing a linear equation given two points, and combining the geometry we know with our algebraic knowledge of linear equations.

Homework:
Lines, Segments, Graphing, & Equations
Date Published: Sep 03, 2008 - 10:31 pm

Friday 8.29 - Segments, Distance, & Pythagoras

Circles & Segments warm-up From there we explored the connection of the Pythagorean Theorem and the distance formula and wrapped up by solving some geometry problems using these algebraic techniques.

Homework:
pg 22 / 35, 38, 43, 49, 55, 69
