Metro Hotels Sees Robust Results After Switch to Sabre Hospitality Solutions’ Comprehensive Distribution Solutions

Sabre Hospitality Solutions, the industry’s leading global hospitality technology company, announced today that Australian hotel group, Metro Hotels, has reported a more than 70 percent increase in bookings as compared to market growth of 4.5 percent after switching to Sabre Hospitality Solutions’ distribution technology and marketing services.

The hotel company migrated to Sabre Hospitality Solutions’ SynXis Central Reservation System in November 2011 to connect seamlessly to all channels including distributing rooms and rates through all four major Global Distribution Systems (GDSs), as well as hundreds of online travel agents.
Metro Hotels has 14 properties throughout Australia and is the oldest 100 percent Australian owned and managed hotel chain.  The hotel group has offered accommodation in key cities and popular holiday and tourist destinations for more than 30 years.

“We have seen huge improvements across the board since our switch to Sabre Hospitality Solutions,” said, Carlie Tait, Group eCommerce Coordinator for Metro Hotels.  “The high level of support, responsiveness and product knowledge we get from Sabre’s Australia based team, as well as the functionality and efficiencies of the system, have made a noticeable impact for our hotels.  I have yet to find anything negative.”

More specifically, the SynXis CRS took Metro Hotel’s turnaround time for rate loading from over a week to just one day.  The enhanced system functionality also allows for a higher volume of information and images that Metro Hotels can load for each property giving the chain the ability to capture a wider audience.

“Metro Hotels is taking full advantage of our CRS solution and their results show how the functionality of the system can really make a difference,” said Patrick Andres, vice president Asia-Pacific for Sabre Hospitality Solutions.  “They are also armed with accurate and useful reporting that gives them comprehensive insight  around key source markets and areas that require additional focus.”

Aspire Hotel Sydney is offering trade show exhibitors and delegates a great value ‘Expo’ Package, specifically designed for those clients attending an event at Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

For just $169* per night, the package includes accommodation in a Superior room, buffet breakfast, free wireless internet, free car parking, one bay per room with unlimited entry and exit, and an Exhibitor Survival Pack containing two bottles of water, one sandwich or ham croissant, one piece of fruit and one muesli bar).

According to Aspire Hotel Sydney Property Manager, Ricky Risal, the hotel offered a similar package in 2010 which was very well received, and has formed the basis for this new and improved ‘Expo’ package.

“The first time we offered the ‘Expo’ package we received a lot of bookings from exhibitors who wanted accommodation close to Darling Harbour and the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre but were on a limited budget,” Mr Risal said.

“We also received feedback from guests that they were very busy during the trade show, and had limited time, if any, to leave their trade booth to go and find something to eat. To address this, we have included in the Package a hearty hot or cold buffet breakfast, along with an Exhibitor Survival Pack to ensure they will not go hungry during the day.”

Aspire Hotel Sydney, a boutique three and a half star hotel in Ultimo, is popular with corporate guests who take advantage of its proximity to Darling Harbour, and government and corporate offices in the CBD and Broadway. Modern conveniences are standard in all rooms, with new flat screen TV’s equipped with USB ports that are compatible with the latest USB devices. Show off your pictures, watch movies from your hard drive and share them with friends.

Metro Hotels Exhibits at BTTB

Metro Hotels exhibits at BTTB

Over the past few years, travel managers and suppliers have had to contend with dramatic and often unpredictable changes in the business environment. Natural disasters, financial crisis, political turmoil and civil unrest made travel planning difficult and put pressures not only on travellers, but also on their managers.

With so much uncertainty surrounding their roles, travel managers need as much information as possible about the aspects they can control, and this year’s BTTB Australia conference aimed to provide vital insights into the travel supply chain. From pricing trends to global best practice, the conference content aimed to draw on the best information out there and apply it to the demands of Australasian travel management.

Over two days, delegates heard from leading experts as well as learnt from their peers in a conference programme that addressed the key issues of the day.

Now in its 13th year, also included the region’s biggest business travel trade show where leading suppliers such as Metro Hotels were on hand to demonstrate their products, services and solutions and discuss developments in their particular field.

Metro Hotels Hammers Out a Great Idea for Trade Shows

What started as a simple idea for a low cost give-away has turned into a piece of marketing magic for Metro Hotels.

The sales department at Metro Hotels were looking for a low cost item that they could give-away to delegates who attended the many business trade shows the company exhibited at. "We looked at the usual stress balls and similar sorts of things and then we came across the stress hammer," according Metro Hotels Business Development Manager Richard Amour. "It was quirky, unique and had a certain attraction that we couldn't pass up," he explained.

The stress hammers have proven so popular that the sales staff receive emails from trade show delegates months after attending a particular event, requesting if they could be sent more hammers for their colleagues, children, nieces and nephews etc. According to Mr. Amour the stress hammers are a great conversation starter and everyone and anyone who works in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry can relate to stress.

"We have had a few politically correct people try to tell us that they are de-stress hammers but we are sticking with the majority opinion and therefore they will always be referred to as stress hammers." he explained. But what does a hammer have to do with hotel or serviced apartment accommodation? "Absolutely nothing," said Mr Amour, "and we think that is part of the attraction." In fact, Metro Hotels staff were getting asked so often what a hammer had to do with their business that they started to ask their clients the exact same question - and listed below are just some of the answers/ideas that they could safely publish:-

* Hammer out a deal at Metro Hotels
* Get hammered at Metro Hotels
* Metro Hotels - building relationships
* I nailed a great deal with Metro Hotels
 * Metro Hotels are hammering down prices

The only problem the sales team at Metro Hotels have now is ........... what do they come up with next? "The success of the Stress Hammers has been so huge that we are really scratching our heads to find something that will surpass the success of the Stress Hammers." Said Mr Amour.

Described by critics as ‘absolutely dazzling dancing’ ‘The music is great…the dance gives it fresh meaning…amazing skill and passion.  They are insanely good dancers’ and ‘their incredible skills shone through every move they did…the most fun you’ll ever have at a ballet’, this raunchy, powerful and brilliantly entertaining show will commence its 2012 Australian tour in Melbourne on May 28.
According to Rasta Thomas, founder, director and principal dancer, Rock the Ballet is a show that goes way beyond a normal dance company experience and transcends borders.  “We are so fortunate to share Rock the Ballet with audiences across the globe – if you like great music, great dancing and want to have a great time, this show is for you!” he said.

Metro Hotel Sydney Central To Butt Out Smoking - Metro Hotels

The 3 1/2 star Metro Hotel Sydney Central is set to make a fresh start to the new financial year by becoming a 100% smoke-free hotel.

"The move has come about following increased demand for more non-smoking rooms from a wide cross section of our clients," said Hotel General Manager, Ms. Sandra Calabretta.
And the timing for the changes couldn’t be better. “We are currently undergoing a refurbishment of the rooms and common areas of the hotel so it makes very good sense to make the switch now,” explains Ms Calabretta.

Since 2006 seventy per cent of the hotel plus the common areas have been smoke free. The hotel still had demand from some guests, mainly the Asian inbound groups, for smoking rooms so a number of floors were set aside to cater for this market.

“Over time we have seen a large decline in the need for smoking rooms from traditional markets so now it is a case of catering for the majority and not the minority,” said Ms. Calabretta.

In 2005, the Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour, also located in Sydney's CBD, was the first Metro property to adopt a smoke-free policy with no negative effect on the busines.

Extensive Refurbishment Underway for Metro Hotel Sydney Central - Metro Hotels

Metro Hotel Sydney Central is currently in the midst of an extensive refurbishment as it moves towards providing guests with a superior standard of rooms and facilities.

The 3½ star Sydney hotel is undergoing renovations designed to ensure guests enjoy a high level of facilities and services as well as value for money.

The first part of the program involving the redevelopment of the rooftop pool area, is now nearing completion, providing guests with a more welcoming and enjoyable venue in which to relax. Improvements to the area include a pool upgrade, re-tiling of the area, new and improved lighting and the addition of modern pool furniture.

The second stage of refurbishments is currently underway and will see a complete renovation of the hotel’s three guest lifts. One lift has already been completed and work is underway on the second lift. The third and final lift will be completed by the end of August.

According to Hotel General Manager, Ms Sandra Calabretta, the staged upgrade of the lifts ensured guests were not inconvenienced as two lifts remain operational at all times.

“The Hotel has more lifts than it actually requires to run efficiently, and so there has been no inconvenience to guests,” Ms Calabretta said. “Combined with the new pool deck, these improvements are already proving to be a success. The new pool deck looks great and, not only will it be an excellent and attractive facility for our guests to use, we have received a number of enquiries from organisations who want to hire the area for an evening cocktail function by the pool.”
