(More customer

was well packed - it emerged unscathed from a very scathed box. The
steel seems thin until you relaize that it is just carrying bikes,
not a trailor. It is strong enough and doesn't weigh a ton.
However... It comes in three main pieces that you bolt together.
The resulting rack does exactly what it is supposed to. And it is
solid. That's almost enough. The problem is that a thief must
remove, at most, two bolts to steal your bikes. I used some
Locktite on the bolts and cured that little failing. Now the bolts
can't come out and the rack is about perfect.

Allen Deluxe 4-Bike Hitch
Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver)
This Deluxe Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier by Allen holds four bikes
and is ideal for weekend biking trips with friends and family
outings. A tie-down system securely holds and protects each bicycle
while 22-inch carry arms drop out of the way when not in use.
Appropriate for two-inch hitches, this carrier includes a strap
which eliminates lower bike movement. Minor assembly and simple set
up of the carrier is required.
About Allen Bike Racks In 1967, after a few years of working on the
aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of
a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist,
to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling
enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for
a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and
wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What
proved difficult time and again was the transport of his familys
bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a
dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market
in which he foresaw major growth possibilities.
Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln,
Massachusetts garage in search of a more efficient way to transport
bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them
throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical
conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At
first, the Allens tested the prototype on weekend excursions.
Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started
Allen Bike Racks. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen
Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle
distributors. Today, the company owns over three dozen patents and
offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dicks son Alex
now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small
garage run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two
factories abroad, and has products sold in more than a dozen
countries around the world.

(More customer
reviews)After being disappointed with the taste and
troubles associated with using a campfire to grill burgers and
hotdogs, I bought this Coleman Grill/Stove combo about two years
ago.
It has been an instant hit on every outing. The compact size allows
for easy packing. Two 1-lb. propane tanks last me all weekend. I've
even used this unit at home when my patio propane grill ran out of
gas.
For breakfast, I use the griddle attachment for pancakes, sausage,
eggs and bacon, while the stove keeps the coffee hot. The griddle
has two small drain holes at the left edge. You need to make sure
the unit sits level or slightly downhill toward these holes so that
the grease will make its way to the drip tray. However, when I cook
for a large group, I find that the drip tray fills up quickly when
cooking bacon, and it's not easy to handle when the grease is still
hot. For lunches, I've cooked six hamburger patties at a time on
the grill surface, although I must say you get some impressive
grease flares and will have a dirty grill when you're done. About
six hot dogs can be cooked at once with no problem, but I always
have to make sure they're turned frequently and keep the burner on
a low setting to avoid burning the dogs. For dinner, chicken
breasts and steaks under 1" thick cook up just fine while a 10"
skillet on the stove warms up pasta, chili, or whatever sounds
good.
If I had to find any downside it would be that the flame can be
blown out by a good wind when on the lowest heat setting. Also when
on a low setting, the flame is dim and very hard to verify if it is
on in daylight conditions.
My recommendations:
Buy the version with electronic ignition if you don't like fiddling
with matches.
Use only nylon utensils to keep the non-stick surfaces free of
scratches.
Put a couple layers of aluminum foil under the grill surface for
easier clean up, and be sure to punch out a little hole for the
grease to drain into the drip tray.
Consider Coleman's fold-away aluminum stove stand for this unit. It
brings the grill to the ideal height and is quite stable (the feet
even have holes for tent stakes).
You can keep a stock pot of water simmering on the stove while you
use the grill side to have warm dish water after your meal.
When it's time to head for home, always pack the unit flat. If you
store it upright (on it's side), stray grease will eventually leak
out and make a mess of things. Once back at home, you can dismantle
the grill and use a garden hose along with a sponge and some dish
soap to quickly clean the Grill Stove for storage until the next
campout.

Coleman Propane Grill
Stove
Coleman's Two-Burner Propane Grill Stove should happily satisfy
most any portable-cooking needs. Equipped with two 10,000 BTU
burners (one 10,000 BTU grill and one 10,000 BTU burner), this
propane grill stove has two sides so you can both grill and cook at
the same time. The PerfectFlow regulator provides consistent
cooking performance (without flaring or flickering) by producing a
steady fuel stream, even in cold weather, high altitudes, or when
fuel is low.
This Coleman stove is designed with a grease management system with
a channel that carries grease away to where it is easily collected
in a removable dishwasher-safe reservoir. The heavy-duty
embossed-steel component construction provides maximum strength and
helps extend the life of your stove. This stove is built with two
dimmer-style gas controls so you can finely tune your cooking
temperature. Powered by a regular propane cylinder (not included)
this grill stove is simple to use and will last you for as long as
you take care of it.

(More customer

akward to use than some carriers. The thing that disappointed me
most, though, was the need to use a tie-back strap at the top of
the carrier.
If you look carefully at the first picture, you can see a thin line
going from top of the carrier back to the car. The instructions say
to "Hook metal hook at the end of the top strap to a solid metal
edge at the top edge of rear door/trunk."
This seems to provide a strong opportunity for scratching the car,
since the painted surface of the car is now being used as a
structural element by attaching a "hook" to the edge of the
trunk.
Otherwise, it seems ok.

(More customer

all our camping cooking stuff together. His two burner Coleman
stove fits perfectly in the bottom pocket and the top pocket holds
just about everything we need (dishes, pots/pans, dishtowels etc.)
There really is a lot of space. There are elastic pockets on the
inside that hold propane bottles, utensils etc.
Now the part we don't like. There is no support on in this bag. We
thought this would be like the collapsible coolers, where the sides
would have some sort of padding to help hold the shape. There is no
support. If we don't fill it completely full, everything just
slides all over the place.
We are happy with it overall and will be using it, but thought it
could have a much better design.

(More customer

24" is rather large for a trail-a-bike. But it turned out to be
excellent for a 7 to 8-year old child. The seat can be adjusted to
accommodate younger or older kids. My son really enjoys the 7-speed
which helps a lot when we climb a hill. In many ways he likes it
better than his own bike because we can travel long distances in
the nearby state park, and go much faster. Like all trail-a-bikes,
there is a bit of wobbling when your child tilts it from one side
to another. But in time both you and your child get better at it,
and stop wobbling.
The bike is nicely built and is easy to assemble. We don't use the
folder at all but it is good to know that you have the option. So,
yes, this bike is fairly expensive. But I think it is definitely
worth the price.

(More customer
reviews)The 740RR (MSRP: $400) is a swing-away
hitch-mount bike carrier that permits access to the rear of a
vehicle without first dismounting the rack or its load of bikes, a
convenience that you'll wonder how you ever got along without. The
740RR folding design is unique from other competing swing-away bike
carriers, admittedly very cool to see in action though it provides
no obvious advantages. An animated video of the 740RR movement is
available on the manufacturer's website.
However, the 740RR seems to suffer from a few design flaws that
quickly become apparent during typical use, raise concerns about
the product's safety, and may eventually render the rack unusable.
My observations after using the 740RR:
1) Unnecessarily complicated swing-arm.
The 740RR folding swing-arm requires more component hardware and
pivot points than competing single-hinge swing-away carriers. More
pivot points mean over a half-dozen lubrication spots, more
mechanical points of failure, and several exposed and potentially
serious pinch hazards.
2) Swing-arm flex.
The 740RR swing-arm flexes considerably when it is swung out from
the vehicle under a full load of bikes. The flex can cause
permanent misalignment of the locking mechanisms that hold the rack
safely closed. When this happens, the 740RR is unusable.
3) Poorly designed locking and safety mechanism.
The locking mechanism is the most significant problem with the
rack. The 740RR clicks closed by use of a spring-pin. However, this
pin does not secure the carrier to the vehicle. Instead, the owner
must subsequently hand-tighten an ordinary threaded bolt before the
rack is safe for transport. Forget to tighten that bolt and the
carrier will swing away from the rear of the vehicle at the first
bump regardless if the rack is empty or carrying bikes, an
unnerving thing to experience.
Note that securing the rack with a threaded bolt appears to be a
typical safety feature of most swing-away bike carriers. However,
the 740RR's implementation seems poorly applied:
- The long threaded bolt must be tightened from the front of the
swing-arm, access to which is difficult and awkward when the rack
is loaded with bicycles;
- The bolt threads become stripped under normal use and eventually
can no longer be tightened, making the rack unusable;
- Neither the spring-pin or the bolt will engage if the swing-arm
is misaligned, again rendering the rack unusable.
4) Significant weight.
The 740RR is heavy and cumbersome to attach/remove from the
receiver hitch, and awkward and bulky to move when detached. The
carrier does not stand up on its own when not mounted. As an
alternative to hefting the thing up onto wall hooks, the
manufacturer sells a stand which allows upright storage of the
740RR.
5) Instructions contain errors.
The 740RR design has apparently changed since the instructions were
last updated. A few images do not match actual rack components, and
some parts are mislabeled.
Great Warranty.
The manufacturer warrants their products as such: "If one of our
products fails to function properly due to defect in materials or
workmanship over the lifetime of the original purchaser, return the
product and we will repair it or replace it free of charge."
Indeed, to my satisfaction, the manufacturer replaced my first
problematic 740RR (on which this review is based) without any
hassle and free of charge including shipping. The replacement rack
has lasted longer than its predecessor, but the threaded bolt again
shows signs of eminent failure.
Buying a Used 740RR.
It is probably a very bad idea to purchase the 740RR used. The
original owner may be unburdening themselves of a rack afflicted
with one of the many inherent problems I mentioned above. Also, you
would loose the protection of the manufacturer's warranty.

(More customer

such as a small lake or river. I use it on a small river in central
Florida. I power it with a 40lb. thrust trolling motor, and it
moves it very good. They are trying to eliminate combustion engines
on this river so this unit works great. I put the trolling motor on
the front so I can see the areas I want to fish easier. It does
"skid" a little like this when I am alone, but when two people are
in the boat the control is much better. It has a small livewell,
which is perfect for the panfish I catch. The rod holders are nice
and use the navigation lite holder for another rod holder since I
don't go out at night. The seats are comfortable, and there is
adequate room for the gear I take. You can't stand as easily in a
bigger boat, but you have to consider the cost. I think I have
$1500 total including boat, motor, battery, etc. I use a utility
trailer to haul it, but I think it will fit into a pick-up
truck.

(More customer

the quality is pretty poor. Very cheaply made, very bad 'paint'
that flakes off when you tighten any of the bolts. Rusts instantly
(Really!!!) Some of the bolt holes do not hold the bolts properly
for tightening, so you will probably need a vice-grips for
assembly.
You will need to add padding to the vertical posts that you fasten
the bikes to unless you don't mind scratching up your bikes.
Figure on a can of gloss black spray enamel to touch up anywhere a
tool touches and padding for the uprights and you will have a
functional bike rack. Takes about 30 minutes to assemble if you
work reasonably fast.

(More customer
reviews)I use this unit mostly to make only about a 20
mile trek to our favorite riding area. The unit itself is sturdy
enough but has several flaws. The most glaring is that the bike
mounts seem to me to be about 2-4" closer together than I think
would be optimal. This results in a jigsaw puzzle when loading 4
bikes on the unit (if you can do it with your bikes at all). It
took me about 20-30 minutes to load it up with 2 adult bikes and 2
kids bikes the first time. During the trip, the bikes were held
steady (make sure to use the yellow nylon strap and not rely on the
velcro straps to hold your bikes!)but when we arrived I had a heck
of a time getting 2 of the bikes off. the pedals/cranks had gotten
crossed up and I had to remove both bikes at once to get them off
the rack. Then I had to figure out how to get the cranks unstuck.
It was a pain and would likely not have happened had there been
additional space between the bikes. I ended up throwing one of the
kids bikes INTO the SUV for the trip back.
Also, in hindsight, I wish I had sprung for a few extra bucks for
the more expensive "pivot away" type units that would allow me to
open up the SUV hatch when necessary without removing the unit from
the hitch.
A good basic carrier, but stick with 2 bikes and dont bother trying
4.
