(More customer reviews)When you have a house built, the contractors will put in toilets with the cheapest innards you've ever seen. My house came with Mansfield toilets. Old style float bulb garbage. Within a year the fill valve on 2 of them broke, so I decided to just buy all new innards for all of them, replace the plastic fill lines with steel braided ones - the works. So I bought the complete Fluidmaster kits.
The most striking thing about these kits is how absolutely TERRIBLE the instructions are. I'm a glutton for punishment, and this is FAR from my first home improvement job. I'm the guy people call to put things together. I have seen some bad instructions in my day, but nothing as bad as these. One big sheet, English in the front, Spanish on the back.
Now the job isn't that hard if you've done it a few times; but there are some steps that you cannot skip without making a royal mess. There is no emphasis added on those steps, everything is treated the same. The "helpful" illustration - here's a perfect example - to remove the tank, you have to remove 3 (sometimes 2) bolts. Big, flat head suckers. They show a screwdriver going down into the tank. What they don't show is the gymnastics you will try to accomplish to secure the nut on the bottom from rotating as you turn the bolts. You need a screw driver at least 2 feet long to pull it off by yourself.
Then there's other stupid stuff. The fill valve gasket is a piece of rubber, and they used the same piece of rubber to make a gasket for the fill line. You've got to 'carve' it out with an X-acto knife. WHY???
The newer kits that are sold now come with a "Leak guard" attachment that adds way too much complexity for very little benefit, and the flapper that comes in this kit is different than the good one you buy separately. It has this dial on it where you're supposed to be able to adjust how big the flush is. It's so stupid and it doesn't work. It kept closing way too quickly no matter what setting I had it on. I took it off to see if I could figure out why it wasn't working, and a plastic piece in the center of the rubber plug popped out. Nice. I got it back in, but then I couldn't get the flapper to stop leaking. I finally replaced it with another flapper. $8 down the toilet literally.
So forget Fluidmaster. You've been warned.

(More customer reviews)First, according to the documentation that came with it, this filter only removes about 50 percent of the chlorine in tap water, and it does not remove any chlorine byproducts at all. Thinking that any filter is better that no filter (usually applied to pitcher filters, etc.), I installed it anyway. It leaked. The O-ring that fits on either end of the little barrel filter had not seated properly. Water all over the place. Took it down. Took it apart. Put it back together. No leak for two months. Then the other day, turned on the shower, heard a pop, and it leaks again. Took it down, took it apart. Put it back together. Still leaks. It's going into the trash. Don't bother with this filter, if for no other reason than it's not very good at what it claims to do. There are more effective products out there. I have one in my other place.

(More customer reviews)Waterpik makes a brushed nickel version of this showerhead, model # RPB 179. I know, because I purchased 2 yesterday that I stumbled upon at HomeGoods for $19.99 each. Oddly, even Google can't as of this date find the RPB 179 - perhaps it is brand new version? Anyway, it is same as RPB 173 except finish is pretty brushed nickel and face is putty colored rather than black. I love this model because:
1) Installation - Having now installed 2 in my home, I'm pretty sure I could install a third in under 60 seconds if I really hustled! Only tool you'll need is pliers to remove old showerhead.
2) Flow - My goal is to get drenched, not massaged, and this model, with it's six inch wide head and dozens of firm but not stinging streams, succeeds marvelously.
3) Simplicity - I like simple things. This thing is very simple with a clean-looking design. And it should last.
4) Positioning - Best feature of all. The adjustable nine-inch arm enables you to position the head so that at it's lowest point it is around 5 inches higher than a conventional fixed head. My old head was around 5'11" off the floor of tub, this one is around 6'4". It also enables you to position the head perhaps 6 inches further out from the wall. So, no more bending over backwards or bumping into the shower caddy, or maneuvering through the spray and around the head to get the shampoo, etc.
5) Adjustability - the arm adjusts off the pipe, and the head adjusts off the arm, so you can have the starting point and angle of flow just how you like it, and such that it won't splatter on drywall, out of shower, etc.
6) Looks - quite handsome. Get yourself a brushed-nickel caddy for a good looking combo.
7) Quality - Early to say, but the two I installed don't leak at all, not even a single drop.
8) Value - I love the little one-time changes that make life a tad better daily. This thing does that, and if it lasts six years, it does it for a penny a day.
It is a winner. Waterpik, you're gonna sell a lot of these if you make them available.

The tub is physically attractive, even better than it looks in the photographs on the site. The "apron" portion of the tub is my only complaint, as it is not truly "straight" down the full length of the tub, it has a bit of bend that either was molded in, or occured in some way that it is not "straightened" during install, close, but not quite. - Close enough that when we laid the tile it did require the tile seams be adjusted, but after grout and silicone along the edge, it is virtually not noticeable.
With that one minor thing to be aware of, this thing is a bargain. I shopped some VERY expensive custom tub suppliers, and had a few choices that looked as good as this tub, but were 4 times the money, and were built from Acrylic also. Add to that the time frame to order, and get what I wanted vs. ordering this on Amazon.com, their geat policies for customer satisfaction, the American Standard brand still does mean something, and this is a win / win / win for manufacturer, supplier, and consumer. Call me happy - at an above average rate.

The humid environment causes this fixture to rust like an old ship in the ocean. Like a car in the cold north. Like a Red Rider wagon in the rain. Like a cheap bathroom fixture from Price Pfister and Checkolite. I purchased one from Lowe's since it had a long warranty. It rusted a few months after it was installed. Checkolite handles exchanges for Price Pfister and they said they didn't get my emails or emailed pictures when I tried to get an exchange. About 2 months later and a certified letter, they finally sent me a replacement. The replacement rusted faster than the first one. Like cheap stainless steel. Like my ragged old mother after she turned 20. Well, here we go again. I sent the email to them a week ago and no response. I guess I should have learned the first go around. Unless you're going to install this in a dry, sterile area, go with a glass sconce, or pay through the nose for a unit that doesn't rust. I made light, no pun intented, how badly this unit will rust but in all seriousness, go with something else. Otherwise, you'll spend good money for a unit that will rust quickly and getting it replaced will be equally if not more, disappointing.

Bubbles appear on the surface covered immediately after application. So you have to wait 24 hours than sand it apply it again and repeat the cycle until it will be even on the surface. It says white on the box however its more gray than white. Works ok for flat surfaces, but for sides try to use another product. Not recommended to buy.

(More customer reviews)I recently moved and wanted to replace my old "gold" shower door with a nice new brushed-nickel finish "frameless" type door. I was shocked at how expensive shower doors are, but decided to take a chance on the Dreamline, which was very inexpensive compared to most other options. I did not want to pay to have it installed, so I decided to do it myself. I am just a normal corporate type of guy - am not a contractor or anything, but can do basic home improvements. This is one of the more advanced projects for my skill level.
The product was shipped via Roadway Express. This had to be specially scheduled with the local delivery dock - they did not contact me, and I had to call them twice (after they failed to show up). Anyway, that was the worst part of the whole process - but it worked out.
The actual product has a very thick glass - sturdy and heavy. The brushed nickel parts are of good quality - my only very minor complaint is they almost look pink-tinted, but that is mostly due to my bathroom colors. The instructions were fine. All you really need is a good screwdriver, a drill and bits, and some silicone (clear) caulk ... and a few hours of course!
A skilled installer could have it done in an hour. I took about 3 hours, but went VERY slow since I didn't want to mess anything up. It is just a step-by-step process - anyone who is somewhat handy will be fine.
One other great feature is how adjustable the edges are. My shower opening is about an inch wider at the top than it is on the bottom. This is a GREAT product for adjusting for shower openings that are not contructed perfectly.
The ONLY part of the installation that I would change is that I would NOT just rely on a level to install both left and right rails / anchors to the wall. In other words, I would completely install the shower door first, and then install the opposite wall / closing edge so it aligns with the door. I used a level and for some reason the top of the door has a slight gap at the top. But no water leaks, and it looks fine, so I'm still happy.
Also - be aware that there is no rail underneath the glass. The glass includes a clear flexible "seal" that snaps on (for bottom and sides), and it just rubs on the bottom underneath the glass to form a seal against the tile. It works fine ... again, there is NO water that leaks whatsoever ... but if you remove an old shower that DOES have the rail along the bottom, your old tile may have discoloration that will be visible after removing the old shower.
Anyway, I love this shower door - great product at any price - looks like a high-end product you would find at a fancy hotel - highly recommended!

It's actually pretty heavy and will probably last as long as the kitchen will. The only downside is that
it is hard to tell when the liquid is low you just have to use it up until you get no more after a couple pumps.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this Kohler valve body to go with a 3 handle set for the bath/shower in my home. I like the quality of this product; I had looked at several other 3 valve units at my local stores and found tapped threads with large metal shavings still attached, etc. The Kohler part was machined better with more attention to detail - no burrs, etc on the unit. That says a lot.
The ceramic washer system is wonderful, as is the 1/4 turn feature for full off to on. I had the old gerber style system with rubber washers. I had to replace those every few months to a year and I was still getting drips. Plus, when you turned them, you didn't get a smooth change in flow rate. The Kohler unit is flawless - no drips, and it smoothly changes the flow from off to on through the 90 degrees.
The holes through the wall needed to be enlarged for the valve body - the old gerber valve body was considerably smaller.
That said, the only disappointment is that the valve bodies must not be quite the same between manufacturers for easy replacement. The 8" width is right, but the vertical distance from the valve body centerline to where each of the 4 connections is made isn't the same as the previous model. I had to alter the plumbing length for all 4 connections, which turned this job into something considerable longer. This is something these manufacturers should have standardized a long time ago.
UPDATE: After one week of use, the hot water valve cartridge failed (water flow would not shut off). Later found out a small screw was in the valve and caused it to fail. I can't figure out how a screw ended up there, and cannot tell if it came from the factory or it was me. Lesson - check the valve body for foreign materials just in case.
