Ke$ha Gives Flaming Lips Frontman His First-Ever Toe Tattoo

Flaming Lips mastermind Wayne Coyne took away more than just a vial of blood when he traveled to Nashville to record with Ke$ha. (Though, really, you'd think that would be enough.) He also left with his first-ever tattoo ... not to mention a newfound respect for the wild-child pop star.

"Most of the time, if someone's willing to work with me, they're going to be a freak. And Ke$ha ... I sort of thought that she would be a freak, I'd heard about her and we'd tried to get a hold of her earlier," Coyne told MTV News backstage at the Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, Alabama. "We showed up at her house, and she has a tattoo gun that she gives everyone a tattoo with, so within 20 minutes of being at her house, I had a tattoo on my toe; it's the only tattoo I've ever had.

"We were set to do this one song that I had prepared, and we went into the studio that night, and stayed there until about 2 in the morning, and did four songs, just making stuff up," he continued. "And the next day [we] worked for another couple hours. She's funny, she's gracious, she's imaginative, she's creative and she's a lot of fun to be around."

The result of that collaboration (a song called "2012") shows up on the Lips' special Record Store Day double-LP, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, a thoroughly out-there collection of songs and sound-collages that as the title implies the band recorded with the likes of Bon Iver, Nick Cave, Neon Indian, Yoko Ono and, uh, Coldplay's Chris Martin ... to name just a few. But will fans get to hear even more of the Flaming Lips/Ke$ha team-up? Well, Coyne certainly hopes so.

"We really loved making this music together I think I've probably done six or seven songs with her and I know a lot of her fans like ['2012'], but I don't know if we'll put more songs out there," he said. "She has other agendas besides doing music with Wayne, you know, but I hope so, because I think it's really great, crazy, unexpected music. And she, to her credit, loves what we do. She wants it to be whatever. She has no limits of what she wants it to be."

And don't think the Heady Fwends sessions will be the last time Coyne and Ke$ha share time (or blood) in the studio. If anything, the Lips' recent output of, uh, non-traditional releases songs encased in gummy skulls and fetuses, 24-hour noise-jam freakouts that play for all eternity, limited-edition vinyl filled with actual blood, etc suggests Coyne and Co. are just getting started ... and they're going to get even weirder before they're finished.

"That's been the beautiful thing about all of these weird collaborations and projects; you work with freaks. Even working with someone like Chris Martin, he's very open to, like, 'Let's do stuff!' That's the great surprise about it," Coyne said. "I don't think people are surprised when we work with a group like Lightning Bolt or Neon Indian people think of us as like-minded but the surprising thing with the Chris Martins or the Ke$has, they're like us too, they just don' play music that sounds like that all the time."Related Artists

Adele, Rihanna, Lady Gaga Lead Billboard Award Finalists

Following her Grammy triumph( in February, May 20 could be another big night for Adele, as the British siren is a finalist in 18 award categories at the Billboard Music Awards. According to Billboard, Adele is leading in categories including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist. Her breakthrough hit, "Rolling in the Deep," is a contender in seven different categories.

Adele has plenty of female companionship, as Rihanna and Lady Gaga are also finalists in a number of categories, with 13 for RiRi and 10 for Lady Gaga. Lil Wayne is also up for 10 categories, while party rockers LMFAO are finalists in 17. The awards are based on Billboard's chart rankings, and combine data from album sales and downloads, track downloads, radio airplay and touring in addition to streaming and social interactions with fans on Facebook, Twitter, Vevo, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online music services. The show will take place at Las Vegas' MGM Grand and be broadcast live on ABC on May 20.

Beyonce's 'Back To Business' With Memorial Day Concerts

Time is ticking. It's only a matter of hours until Beyonc� makes her post-Blue Ivy Carter performance comeback with her string of Memorial Day weekend shows at Atlantic City's recently launched Revel entertainment center. And with anticipation high, the pop titan is giving her fans a small taste of the behind-the-scenes action it took to transition back to her stage show ways.

In the first of a two-part video montage segment that was posted on the singer's website, Queen B is seen working hard almost two months prior to the gigs on everything from choreography to show concept and vocal rehearsing.

Despite admitting a few nerves and her inclusion in the pop-star-turned-mom club, Beyonc� remained adamant about her return to the stage, "I'm enjoying being a mother, so it's like going back to my old job. It's a little strange, but it's important that you don't lose yourself and have your own passions. I'm back to work. I'm back to business."

It's the first of many candid moments in which the singer opens up and allows camera lenses to document the planning of the concerts. And by the looks of it, the chart-topper will be giving it her all. At one point, Beyonc� is seen sitting on the floor with her crew of dancers conceptualizing the event. "What I'm trying to say with the show ... yes, I had a baby, but it just made me more grounded," she says.

In comparison to her intimate four-night affair at New York's Roseland Ballroom in August 2011, the Revel shows are expected to be much more of a grand spectacle, with high-tech LED, intense choreography and video backdrops.

Positivity goes a long way, as her choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. co-signs the singer's intent to create a stellar event. "I think this show has the potential to be one of the greatest shows we've done. People, re-sit and listen to Beyonc�, we will have a brilliant show at Revel," he said.

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

'Project X' Star Oliver Cooper: How To Be A Dirtbag

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — "Project X" star Oliver Cooper is no stranger to being a dirtbag. No, not in his real life — just on the big screen. In the Todd Philips-produced flick, Cooper takes on the role of Costa, who manages to burn down a neighborhood, betray all of his friends, steal from a drug dealer and even put someone in an oven.

Yet, some good came out of portraying such a terrible character: The role earned Cooper two MTV Movie Awards nominations, including one for the inaugural Best On-Screen Dirtbag award.

Cooper is thrilled to be nominated for the award, going so far as to actively campaign for fan votes to ensure his victory in winning the Golden Popcorn.

When MTV News caught up with Cooper earlier this week outside the Gibson Amphitheatre, home of the Movie Awards, we were curious to find out just what it takes to be the ultimate dirtbag. Not surprisingly, Cooper had all the answers.

How to be a Dirtbag:

1. Have No Regard for Your Friends
The first rule to being a dirtbag is to completely disregard your friends' feelings. If you need some guidance, pay close attention to Cooper's character in "Project X."

2. Dislike Animals — Especially Kittens
Yes, this sounds insane. How can anyone really hate kittens? Well, if you're a dirtbag, you probably do. "Hate animals," Cooper said. "You have to kick kittens when you see them, steal their food when they're not looking."

3. Don't Have Kids
According to Cooper, dirtbags "never want to have kids." We really aren't sure why, but we think if you're a dirtbag, you might understand.

While his likely opponent in the fall presidential contest, Mitt Romney, dug in his heels and doubled down on his opposition to same-sex marriage, President Obama continued to earn praise from the entertainment community for his historic support of gay marriage.( After hearing from stars including( Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres, "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Kim Kardashian on Wednesday, the list of well-wishers grew to include everyone from Lady Gaga to hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons, Alec Baldwin and political blogger Meghan McCain.

"Obama, congratulations on being the first sitting president to support marriage equality," tweeted Gaga. "Feels like the future, and not the past. #NoFear." Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons simply said "thank you," and singer Michelle Branch gave it a rousing, "YAY Obama!! #EqualityForAll."

Frequent "Chelsea Lately" panelist and out comedian Ross Matthews could hardly contain his excitement, writing, "OMG, it's official! Obama becomes 1st president to support gay marriage!!! Historic day!" Meanwhile, another out TV personality, Bravo boss and talk show host Andy Cohen, shouted, "THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT."

Singer Ricky Martin offered his props as well, saying, "I applaud President @barackobama for affirming that ALL Americans should enjoy equal rights. Historic!"

CNN talker Piers Morgan called it, "One small step for him ... one giant leap for mankind," while comedian/actress Sandra Bernhard offered up the poetic bon mot, "Viva Obama who has just endorsed gay marriage. Right on time drop a dime blow your mind."

"It Gets Better" founder and "Savage Love" columnist Dan Savage urged action on the back of Obama's announcement, saying, "Gay people better get out there and support the president. If he loses in November, we'll be blamed."

"30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin kept is brief with, "Obama gets it right on gay marriage. Bravo," out blogger Perez Hilton dubbed the announcement, "better late than never" and singer Josh Groban said it was just "historic."

Twitter master comedian Patton Oswalt took the opportunity to have fun with the Obama news in a series of tweets about his upcoming (fake) gay marriage. "Oh my God -- Seal Team Six just broke down my front door and are forcing me to marry @stephenfry! DAMN YOU, OBAMA!!!!!!" That was followed by some more good news in the form of, "Well, I'm now married to @stephenfry. Ceremony was charming, but watching Seal Team Six fight over the bouquet was f---ing INTENSE." Funnyman Michael Ian Black was in a joking mood as well, taunting, "Hey Obama, if you love gay marriage so much, why don't you marry it?"

And in keeping with her maverick streak (not to be confused with her dad's), political blogger Meghan McCain opined, "Even though he did it a little late under political pressure -- very happy to hear the President came out in support of gay marriage."
