(More customer reviews)If you are traveling, and you need something that can handle optical 7.1 channel audio, this is a fine item to bring along. It's a little smaller than a pack of smokes and can be run off of a usb to ac adapter. I live in a small apartment in Japan, so I don't have space for a huge sound system. Also, I suffer from insomnia, and sometimes I want to play a game or watch a movie late at night. This gadget allows me to hook up some good headphones and enjoy my movies and games without being a pain to my roommates or neighbors.
It's also worth noting that the surround sound, even on standard headphones, is remarkably well-done. I have been testing it with Metal Gear Solid 4 on my ps3, which I connected to the unit with an optical cable. I'm hearing things I never noticed before in the game, and I really can sense the location of enemies and other things by sound alone with this device.
I think audiophiles would prefer other DACs for listening to cds or lossless music, but if you want a surround sound system that can fit in your pocket or go with you on a trip, or want to be able to listen to surround sound without disturbing your neighbors or flatmates, this is what you've been waiting for.
My only other suggestion is to use good headphones with this unit. It'll work with whatever you hook into it, but better headphones will reveal the high-quality bass, mid, and treble sound that this unit produces.

(More customer reviews)You don't need to plunk down 80 or 90 dollars for one of those expensive cables with the fearsome name and equally fearsome price. DVI and HDMI are digital standards with error correction. What does that mean?
In the analog days(Composite, Svideo, etc), other signals could creep in and cause noise or quality loss in the picture. Better shielded (and sometimes more pricey) cables prevented this noise from creeping in to eliminate this noise. However, with HDTV's and digital signals that move over cables like HDMI and DVI, even the cheapest cable can work as well as the expensive brand.
Digital signals are composed of 1's and 0's, or more simply, an on signal or an off signal. Millions of these 1's and 0's can be sent per second and form your image. Since the signal is either on or off, it is easy to figure out at the other end what the data for the image is, and the receiver at the other end (your television or monitor) reconstructs this signal into a pixel perfect image of what was sent.
Because of this method of using 1's and 0's these lines are not as susceptible to noise, and thanks to error correction that is built in, any noise that does creep in is corrected. Even if noise did somehow creep in, it wouldn't affect the image at the other end.
Digital only fails in levels of high noise where the error correcting code can't compensate, and when it fails, it fails completely. What does this mean? It means that if you have a picture on your screen and it is working, you have a pretty much perfect image. If there is too much noise, you'll notice that it doesn't work at all or very noticeable blocks appear and the image jerks and stops before it quits working. This gives you peace of mind about your signal, because if you are seeing it and it's working, you know you have the best quality image signal available. This is why when viewing over the air signals in digital format with the new digital transition, there is no more snow in the image, every channel that you can get is clearer than analog cable TV.
The only time the image should get enough noise to fail is not with cables, but with over the air transmissions from broadcast air stations. When transmitting such short distances over a cable in your home, this cheap cable is as good as the most expensive and most fearsomely named brand cable. I am currently using this cable for my monitor and I can see perfect detail down to the tiniest pixel (The individual dots that make up the image).

(More customer reviews)I got my 60ex700 yesterday and I am really happy with it. It is a great TV. There was a little flashlighting and uniformity is not perfect but it seems you can tune it quite a bit. There are an amazing amount of settings and I have it set to be more than acceptable for me. Great price on a great TV. Contrast is great with deep blacks and white whites. The motionflow is great also.
Furthermore, the sound is acceptable for normal viewing and much better than I expected due to all the people dissing it. I have a nice theater 5.1 setup but I don't want to use that for everything and the sony sound is just fine.
Netflix and internet stuff is great, the remote is fine. This technology is getting so good we are really picking nits at this point. I just hope it is engineered to be reliable and long lasting because I intend on having this in my living room for the next 6-10 years.
I am sure you can spend a lot more and buy a better TV with better picture quality but for this price... killer TV.
The only downside is the TV is so damn thin and light that I feel nervous holding the bezel when I have to put in the inputs. It is solidly built but it just looks so fragile.

Lately, however, most dvds stop playing part way into the movie (CDs work fine). Only brand new discs play. I cleaned the player using a special dvd cleaner disc and this did not help.
Now I'm back to a $99 combination dvd/vhs player I bought last year which seems to play any dvd no matter how scratched or beat up.

Dolby Digital: This sound format for movie theaters is more advanced than Dolby Pro Logic Surround. In this format, the rear speakers output stereo sound with an expanded frequency range, and a subwoofer channel for deep bass is independently provided. This format is also called "5.1" because the subwoofer channel is counted as 0.1 channel (since it functions only when a deep bass effect is needed). All six channels in this format are recorded separately to realize superior channel separation. Furthermore, since all the signals are processed digitally, less signal degradation occurs.
Dolby Pro Logic Surround: As one method of decoding Dolby Surround, Dolby Pro Logic Surround produces four channels from two-channel sound. Compared with the former Dolby Surround system, Dolby Pro Logic Surround reproduces left-to-right panning more naturally and localizes sounds more precisely. To take full advantage of Dolby Pro Logic, you should have one pair of rear speakers and a center speaker. The rear speakers' put out monaural sound.
DTS: Digital audio compression technology that Digital Theater Systems developed. This technology conforms to 5.1-channel surround. The rear channel is stereo and there is discrete subwoofer channel in this format. DTS provides the same 5.1 discrete channels on high quality digital audio. The good channel separation is realized because the all-channel data is recorded discrete and processed in digital.
SACD: Super Audio CD (SACD) is a high-resolution digital audio format that promises vast sonic improvements over the current audio CD format. Super Audio CD discs can be played back on dedicated Super Audio CD players or combination SACD/DVD-Video players. Very EZ set-up. Joining my network was a snap.
Bloatware seems held to a minimum. Refreshing.
Lots of new and NEWER features and capabilities - decent smart blend of later today and a little of early tomorrow. Obscelesence will be reasonably slow.
Styling and feel is spectacular. Huge bright glass covered screen!
Shipped with two batteries. Yup. TWO!
Heat seems to be the only problem with this new Envy series and most of the trouble is with the Core i7 processor equipped models (mine is an Core i5 and runs fast and kewl).
I've owned a passle of lappers and this is THE BEST by far. So far.
Win 7 64-bit hums. Liking this OS A LOT. Cannot wait for SP1 - to come soon.
HP has set up "special support" for owners of the Envy Series (3 models in many configs)
Overall, VERY impressed.
Congratulations HP.
A tad pricey but, all things considered, perhaps NOT.

They are of comparable high quality to Monster cables; made to very exacting standards with premium materials. We sell them for profit at around $[...] -- and they are even 3 feet longer than the Monster version ( compared to the 1 meter size).
People need to realize that they are paying too much!
Sure, Monster makes a good cable, there is no denying that. Deserving of 5 star rating for what it is.
But it is NOT worth a what they are charging. Minus 3 stars.
Look at it this way. When you buy Monster cables, 30% of what you pay for is the cable, and the remaining 70% pays for the brand name and the hype that goes with it. (They must spend a ton of money in marketing and you pay for it)
Shop around. Read about it in online forums. There are junk cables out there so be cautious, but don't believe you have to pay an arm and a leg for a quality cable. HDMI is a digital format, just 1s and 0s. It will either work or it won't, and the "quality" of the cable will not make or break it.

Dear Mr. Hurd, On April 27 at 2 PM I received a Pavilion Elite Desktop that was defective and "dead in the box." I've been buying computers since 1992 and can accept this but not what followed. (Repair Order #803.........)
From 6 PM to midnight I talked to people in India whose English was barely intelligible making the process extremely difficult. They had me doing tests over and over and sitting on endless hold in between. This was incompetence. Around midnight I was asked to do a "System Restore?" and told by your Tech he would call back---he never did and I was to find that this is common.
On April 28, convinced that the problem was beyond the abilities of your offshore people and not wanting to go back to people I couldn't understand, who never called me back, and who put me on endless hold; I requested (per your guarantee) someone to make a housecall here in Seattle, which was denied. I tried to access American support to no avail and ended up calling Sales--at least they spoke English. They essentially told me "I was on my own" and I thought of the phrase--"Abandon hope all ye who enter here"
On April 29 I got your Filipino station and repeated the same process for hours. One particularly grating aspect was listening ad nausea to your parroted message about being able to get home service while I languished on endless hold. This is deceptive and a rotten lie. My machine was brand new----a fact that wasn't even noticed by your techs until the third day. After 20 hrs of my personal time had been chewed up, the dead machine was finally pronounced unfit and carted back by FedEx on April 30.
On May 1, in one final exhaustive attempt to throw salt in my wounds, I received an email double charging me, and my Visa card was billed an extra $50 to boot. Come on Mr. Hurd, you are a great big Fortune 500 company, how hard is it to fix these things.....things I would expect if this was a David Packard startup in his Palo Alto garage. Post Script---Yes there is a post script to all this. Hewlett-Packard again sent me a brand new machine---machine #2. After the initial setup, I couldn't get on the Internet. Once again I called your techs in India (Repair order #------858----). After about 5 hours, including a "face to face" and the usual endless tests, I went to bed. Since I wasn't willing to spend another 20 hours on the phone I sent the machine back for a refund. Two bad machines in a row strains the credulity and the bounds of coincidence, but your people were merely sanguine about it all.

The original deal was that I gave HP a price they advertised and they gave me an operational Core i7 machine or they would come out and do an in-house repair. I felt cheated. I got my money back but lost 25+hours of my personal time. Hewlett Packard is a good example of a giant global faceless octopus of a company with ubiquitous advertising, cheap prices and shoddy rubbish products. One of the sales guys told me that if HP used American techs it would add $400 to each machine----so that's why Apples cost more?! Believe me Mr. Hurd, gone are the days I'll do business with HP again.

(More customer reviews)There is no doubt that Onkyo builds very fine electronic equipment, and this receiver is no exception. It boasts Onkyo's usual fine build and finish quality and comes with a host of features making it an extraordinarily flexible receiver at a very affordable price. The one feature lacking in its predecessor (TX-SR504) was the presence of HDMI connectivity. This shortcoming has been addressed in the new model but, unfortunately, is not fully implemented. The HDMI circuits in this receiver DO NOT pass the audio portion of the program; they pass only the video portion. This necessitates the use of the analog audio or optical digital audio outputs to provide the audio portion of the program to any connected device (such as a high definition television). Since one of the main reasons for the existence of the HDMI specification is to simplify connectivity, one has to wonder what the engineers (or, more likely, the marketing and accounting department heads) were thinking when they decided to hamper this connection circuitry! While it's true that many people may only want to pass the video program portion to a connected monitor, routing the audio through the receiver's amplifiers and on to the connected loudspeakers, one should not purchase this receiver thinking that it has full HDMI connectivity, because it doesn't. Otherwise, this product represents a very good buy.

(More customer reviews)I picked up one of these along with the V101 in a combo package to run my Xbox 360 and DirecTV DVR downstairs from the cable modem and router in my upstairs office. I had been using wireless networking for the past several years but had issues with wireless failing from time to time and went through 3 routers over 3 years accordingly. Since the wired portion of the routers worked just fine at retirement in each case, I thought I'd give an alternative a try. I researched a few different brands and finally settled on Netgear's Powerline offering. I specifically went with the ones rated for 200Mb for HD streaming options.
I am very satisfied with the performance so far. The Windows Media Center functionality with my Xbox 360 is finally performing in a manner that I expected. With wireless I was getting VERY slow response in the Media Center menu but it operates much more smoothly with the Powerline adapter connected.
I ordered an additional adapter for a computer and DirecTV DVR in another room of my home and all 3 devices are operating well together with excellent connection speed. In addition, setup was completely simple. It was literally plug and play. No configuration required whatsoever.
I would definitely suggest this product line without reservation.

(More customer reviews)I bought this item a few weeks ago. Fabulous machine. The Phenom II six-core chip really makes it scream. The trade-off against the Intel chip on the comparable model 470 machine is that you have a lower cache size vs. the Phenom's higher number of cores (six with AMD to four for Intel), but if you use a lot of multi-threaded applications, it's a worthwhile trade. Photoshop renders are as fast as I've ever seen them, and games can go with as high of a frame rate as you like. Multi-screen support is built in and simple to set up.
Upgrading is easy. My machine now has a blu-ray writer, 3 TB of drive and 16 GB of memory. Took all of half an hour to install everything on my own and not a compatibility issue in sight.
Some nice small things like the CF card not having to be slotted so deep that you need a pair of pliers to pull it out, or the top mounted USB ports. Little touches that make things nice.
My single issue is using the display port, which I have yet to be able to do, but that's a minor quibble and probably just a driver update issue.
Overall a great machine for a good price. Highly recommended.

AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Braided Cable (6.5 Feet/2.0 Meters) Review

(More customer reviews)This item gets 2 stars for Amazon's full backing - easy returns, warranty - but can't earn the rest because it offers very little additional value, even when compared to other AmazonBasics products - in other words, I am not aware of any advantages of braided cables or extra-shielded cables in a home settings at lengths of 6 feet. I also have an issue with the 'Ultra High Speed' designation. While the HDMI consortium does define 'High Speed' and 'Category 2', the 'Ultra' addition seems to be the product of over-zealous marketing from some vendors too eager to differentiate their product and to justify higher prices.
Just to clear any doubt, this cable works as well as any other 6 ft. HDMI wire, including the premium ones and it's no better than those that sell at Amazon for one penny (I actually have one in use right now). The one advantage of this semi-premium-priced wire over the 'regular' ones is some extra shielding which, in the event of an airburst (EMP) above one's residence would ensure that the TV continues to get a clear picture.
AmazonBasics vs. Other Discount Brands

It's not an easy call between an AmazonBasics-branded wire and someone else's that sells for less (plus shipping :) ) but, here's why I went with Amazon this time.
If you look carefully, you will find the probably hundreds of HDMI 'brands' offered at Amazon (exclude the 'premium') fall in about 3 'types' as far as pricing:
a - in the single-digits plus shipping
b - in the mid to high single digits that qualify for Super Savers free shipping
c - listed for as low as pennies plus shipping
This product may compete with 'a' on price but not with categories 'b' and 'c'. Category 'c' saves you a few dollars - and I did order a couple of these myself as well as one of the less expensive Amazon cables: AmazonBasics High Speed HDMI Cable (6.5 Feet / 2.0 Meters) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging].
Amazon has a few extra advantages worth considering if you don't mind paying a little extra.
- EASY RETURN - I know because I had to return quite a few items for various reasons. Amazon makes it very easy and, if you are returning the item because it came defective or damaged Amazon pays for shipping.
- WARRANTY - these wires come with a 1-year warranty (talking about future-proofing). If an HDMI cable performs for one year, the ods that it would stop working after that are pretty close to zero. It's possible that the other vendors back their inexpensive cables too (I never checked) but I am highly confident that Amazon will be around to honor its warranty and I'm not so sure about vendors I know less.
- QUALITY ASSURANCE - I've never had any problems with 'cheap' HDMI cables but it may be reassuring to have Amazon's name on a wire. My assumption is that Amazon did insist on some quality checks before they stamped their logo on the product.HDMI Background and the FUD of Premium Cables

Let's face it, HDMI 1.3x cables have become a commodity these days. There are 'premium' brands, for sure and some look prettier than others (for something that goes to the back of your equipment and no one else will probably see) but the fact is that nearly all of today's makes and models qualify for 'high-speed' or 'Category 2' (see HDMI 1.3 specs below). Just to eliminate the confusion, it's worth stating that: - Practically all HDMI 1.3x certified cables are HIGH-SPEED or CATEGORY 2. Only the Category 2 (high-speed) cables support 1080p resolutions.
- The HDMI official site advises that even HDMI cables under 15 ft. (5m) that were made BEFORE the HDMI 1.3 specification can work as Category 2 cables. The FUD claim that signal attenuation is less over a more expensive cable may be true, nut that's irrelevant on a 6 ft. length.
- The 'ultra high-speed' claim that some premium brands make means very little or 'nothing'. As far as I know, there is NO official HDMI specification for 'ultra high-speed' and, every time I checked the specs of cables labelled as 'ultra', all I saw was the familiar HDMI 1.3 specifications and nothing more.
- The 'premium', very expensive HDMI cables are NOT 'future proof'. Denon DVD 3910 - DVD player Review

(More customer reviews)I use the Denon unit to up-convert older DVD's for play on a 60" SONY HDTV. It does a great job, better than the up-convert function of the SAMSUNG bluray player (which is also quite good). The picture quality is not as good as the true HD when playing a Bluray disc, but the differances are subtle and my investment in the older discs is preserved. I have been told that this unit is the "standard" and I can see why.

(More customer reviews)I've had the RX-v465 for over a month now, so i've had plenty of time to get comfortable with the receiver. I purchased this b/c it seemed like the best value. My major goals were to find a receiver that had HDMI vid and audio pass-thru and had good quality cd music output - and the rx-v465 delivered!
PROS:
I used the mic to auto-calibrate the sound quality - very easy (do this before using it). CDs (analog) sound great and digital audio sounds even better. The sound settings are great: it has several sound enhancer settings for a full/modern sound and even a 'direct' mode where the receiver uses the minimum electronics to provide a pure (almost vinyl) sound. These settings are easy to access once you get comfortable with the remote.
It has plenty of inputs for all of your older (rca) and newer (HDMI) devices. For TV, I run my comcast dvr box via an hdmi cable to the receiver, then run an hdmi from the receiver to the tv. For dvd, i run hdmi to the receiver. Only one cable (an hdmi) is needed from the receiver to the TV (sony bravia 52v5100). Video quality and dolby digital audio quality is excellent. It even allows you to view TV without turning on the receiver (downside in this mode is you can't listen to the sound system). Also, my cable remote can control the receiver volume when watching tv when the pass-thru mode is set (control-on).
CONS:
1. There is an annoying time delay (up to 3 seconds) when switching from HD to non-HD channels and when pulling up the dvr menu/list and cable guide. The receiver is thinking /switching digital modes and makes clicking sounds as it switches resulting in sound but no vid. This issue took me some time to get used to and will be a deal-breaker for most people.
2. Longer delay / thinking when the receiver is turned on and the hdmi input is set. Same clicking and no vid as it finds the right mode for the data that is coming in.
3. Remote is annoying, not built well, but whatever, its not a deal breaker.
OVERALL, i'm happy with this receiver at the price i paid when compared to other available receivers with similar features/functions.

(More customer reviews)Well I saw this tv on sale and I just couldn't let it slide. I had been looking for a second tv mainly for ps3 and computer use. I currently own a 23" samsung px2370 which is amazing however its just not big enough for me so I decided to try out this bad boy. First off I went to go check it out at my local box store and it looked great 3mil:1 contrast, 2.4 ms response, led backlit, usb 2.0, and its super slim with a nice cabinet. The main thing I noticed when I was at the store was how nice and uniformed the color looked and the angles of the tv were great. I bought the tv off of amazon straight through them with free 3-5 day shipping I believe it was and I actually received it in two days. I plugged in the tv and connected my playstation and head on it seems okay but not what I remember seeing in the box store and the viewing angles are horrible. If I am not right in front of the tv the colors almost look washed or worn out. I did some research on it and figured maybe it was something I was doing wrong maybe I had to calibrate the screen or something? No sir, unfortunately what I found out was that LG put different panels in these tv's some have what are called IPS Panels (IPS Panels are the nicer panels and is what I saw in the box store) and some have VA Panels (what I bought on Amazon, not saying its Amazon's fault its just LG not putting the same panels in all the le5300's). I am very displeased with the way LG could do this. Thats like porsche making there cars with hyundai parts. It just doesn't make sense that they could do that, I mean there should be some kind of regulations council to prevent companies from doing stuff like this.I am now hoping that Amazon will let me return the tv and refund me all my money. I would have love to gotten the one at the box store when they had their sale, given it was about 50 bucks more but at least I would have known I was getting the one I wanted. I also found out that the tvs that have the IPS Panels have a W in the serial number or if you have a magnify glass or a camera you can zoom in and see that the pixels of the IPS panels are shaped like this < while the VA panels are shaped like squares. The IPS panels are superior, offer better viewing angels, and better coloring. So all in all this tv is a steal if you can get it with IPS panel.
