Answers: How does Social Phobia/Social Anxiety Disorder interfere with daily life?

How does Social Phobia/Social Anxiety Disorder interfere with daily life?
Depending on how bad it is it can be debilitating. It can affect the ability to go buy groceries, going out to eat doing simple tasks such as the post office etc. I have personal knowledge of this disorder, it is really bad at times but i take meds and they seem to help.I have Social Phobia to a small degree. But its basically where you are so scared or nervous to do everyday tasks. Your fearful that something is going to go wrong. Or that people will hate you for no reason at all. Most social Phobia comes from a past of bUllying which really makes people just want to be all alone where no one can judge themI struggle with anxiety. But whether I have the disorder or not, I don’t know and I don’t really feel the need to get it diagnosed.

I know I use to be really self-conscious because I idolized the approval of others. I use to avoid parties and large group situations because they stressed me out. And honestly, they still do, but to a lesser extent. Things changed when I started to seek God. I mean I still struggle with anxiety when it comes to socializing with others, but that’s not uncommon. People want to be liked and fear rejection, so that fear manifests itself as anxiety.

But ultimately, I’ve come to believe that my self worth is not based on what people think of me, but that God accepts me as I am based on what Christ has done for me. You may smack a religious label on that answer or even call it a crutch, but I honestly believe this is the truth and how things should be in an ideal world. It took awhile for me to see this, but once I did it was really freeing.A phobia is an “irrational fear” that comes from the subconscious mind. For example I am sure you consciously realize that you should not be afraid of Anxiety Disorder interfere with daily life.

If you can discover the “root cause” of your phobia you may be able to eliminate it. For example I use to be scared of the dark and then found out I got locked in a dark basement as a child. Once I realized this my phobia immediately went away.

You can also reprogram your subconscious mind to help you overcome your phobia.

HELP! Can Clarocet Cause Social Anxiety/Depression?
You may not think this, but cyanide is “all natural,” too.

The field of alternative medicine is controversial and in many cases without scientific merit. Many authors, “pracititioners,” and others who sell and promote these products have a financial interest in separating you from your money. I have no ax to grind with alternative medicine – just “show me the science.”

I realize that many folks swear by herbal supplements, what you don’t hear are the many people who weren’t helped. Not all products – prescription and non-prescription – work for all people.

Clarocet contains a number of different herbal products that indeed do have effects on the central nervous system – St. John’s wort, valerian root, and the amino acid 5-hydrotryptamine. Although now marketed for many years, the science behind them is still scanty despite what claims manufacturers make (I mean articles published in mainstream scientific and medical journals that are peer-reviewed and referenced in MEDLINE not so called anecdital reports). Even Clarocet’s website states that you should seek outside medical help before starting their product. That’s what I recommend – see your doctor or get a referral to a mental health professional.

Good luck.

Answers To Your Questions About Social Phobias

Article by Darren T. Wilson

Suffering from a social phobia is very debilitating condition that can affect not only the person with the phobias but friends and family members as well. It is sad that more people are not aware of these conditions and remain ignorant about how tremendously they can affect a person. This article will help you understand what a social phobia is and how treatment can help.

What are social phobias? Social phobias can span many different phobias that all cause anxiety. Some can be pretty severe and can severely limit the interaction the patient has with the outside world. Some people are even forced to live in one room of their home because they do not feel comfortable any other place. No one is actually forcing them to do this. It is their own fears and anxiety that is causing them to withdraw from social interactions in their home, with their families and definitely with strangers or the public.

What type of treatment options are available for people who suffer from social phobias? There are some treatment options for people who do suffer from social phobias. The first line of treatment is therapy. Therapy can work wonders because often talking about the problem can help the sufferer understand what the triggers are and how he or she can work through them. The therapist may start desensitizing the client to his or her social anxiety. The next step is medication. Often medications such as Xanax or Klonipin can be prescribed. When an anxiety attack occurs the person can take the medication and begin to feel a bit calmer.

How can therapy help with social phobias? Therapy is very good for people who suffer from social phobias. Therapy allows the person to talk about why they are afraid to handle public situations. The therapist can try to get to the root cause of the anxiety. By talking about the problem it begins to desensitize the person who is afflicted. The therapist may recommend medications or may begin a process of taking small steps with the person going out into a public venue. Therapists, generally, do not take large steps. It starts out slowly. It may be going to a group meeting with other people who suffer from social phobias. Then the next step is a public outing. Each step of therapy is gradual and can help the person.

Where can I find out more about social phobias and support groups? You can find quite a lot of information about different social phobias on WebMD. The site can help give you additional links to support groups on the internet. Another great source of information is your primary care physician. He or she can refer you to a therapist. The therapist can meet with you one on one and may even be able to put you into contact with a support group that meets weekly. There is help out there if you are willing to find it.

How do I get over social anxiety?

howtogetoversocialanxiety
by Fergal of Claddagh

How do I get over social anxiety?
i think they make medication for this.. talk to a psycologist.try asking your doctor for a anti depressant it helps. if you don’t like that try listening until you feel comfortable.Seems like this is a frequent question on YAnswers. I was a shy kid, too, and threw myself into situations where I would have to overcome. Its has worked with me as an adult. I am now totally outspoken and have worked in supervisory positions, head management, relationship business building, and even good communication with my husband.
If you are young and want some tips, its starts right in school. Get signed up for a speech class, drama, or even band.
These types of classes get you out in front of people. You need to be arpund people who are positive and emotionally and mentally healthy people for you.
Also, just pretend you’re a diver jump into the conversation like a diver jumping into a cold pool.
First it’ll be difficult, then you’ll gradually get accustomed to it- practicing is the only way to get better, so try making polite conversation with the someone sitting by you on the bus, to the person in front of you in line at the grocery store, the taxi driver. These are people you probably won’t see again anyway. Practcing polite and friendly conversation is the only way to help your social anxiety.OK there are two different things like shyness and social anxiety

here are the following to know if you have social anxiety

Some of the signs and symptoms include:
1. An extreme fear of a situation in which you have to meet new people or you may be scrutinized by others.
2.The feared social situations are experienced with some intense anxiety or avoided entirely.
3.The anxiety-provoking social situation causes physical symptoms like blushing, sweating, shaking, trembling, tense muscles, shaky voice, dry mouth or a pounding heart.

The basic symptom of social anxiety disorder is of being very anxious in the presence of others. If you suffer from social anxiety disorder, you may think that other people are very confident in public and you are not. Just blushing may feel horribly embarrassing to you, and you may feel like everyone eyes are always on you. You may feel anxious about giving a speech, talking to a boss or dating.

Some people with social anxiety disorder are afraid of public speaking or parties. Others feel terrible anxiety about using a public restroom, eating out, talking on the phone or writing in front of others.

Almost everyone experiences some social anxiety now and then; it’s normal. However, social anxiety disorder consistently limits the lifestyle of those with the illness, in some cases causing them to not participate in school, avoid making friends or miss important opportunities at work. Some people with social anxiety disorder avoid all socially related situations, severely limiting their life, work and social relationships.

know shyness only can also be cure

almost every one is shy in some kind of way even if you think not .

here is a quote to go by in your head

Someones opinion of you does not have to become your reality.

Les Brown

try to start of by starting a conversation with some one.
start chatting online more.
answering in yahoo answers
start speaking up on some things that you go against on.

Start saying “hi”, “good morning”, “how are you”, etc to EVERYONE. Overcome your fear of being judged. Do things that gain self confidence. Don’t worry about what you can not do…focus on those thijngs you can do. Offer to help here or there. Your question shows you have communication skills…oh, don’t be to judgemental of others, otherwise you’ll limit the number of people you talk to. Start saying “hi”, RIGHT NOW!

good luck and be well to go this website also

www.43things.com/things/view/16246/stop-being-shyI totally agree with anaise above. The only way to get over a fear is to face it, by putting yourself in situations where you are forced to get over it could help you actually get over it. All the best, i know how you feel, about 3 years ago i was exactly the same. I still have some social anxiety however just so you know it will get better! Haha crack up about the drunk comment! Some antidepressants help a lot with social anxiety (like Zoloft and others). It’s a very difficult feeling to overcome–it’s basically a fear of disapproval from others. It will probably subside somewhat as you gain self confidence. You don’t need anyone’s approval but your own (but I know, as one that also has social anxiety, that that is much easier said than done). I have a lot of difficulty with public speaking. I fear disapproval from people in the audience, but I think it’s also too much stimulation (visual stimulation) and it makes me anxious. It’s easy to read into others’ faces; but sometimes people are depressed and they look angry. We read into their faces and think badly of ourselves.

Handle your shyness the way you can…and don’t criticize yourself for it. I don’t expect myself to be a social butterfly. I’m not a social butterfly. At parties, I tend to hang out by the food table (LOL) and chat with one or two people. That’s fine with me. I often have a nice discussion with people. Once I literally ran away from a man I was attracted to–he was a doctor, a professor, attractive, but also very outgoing. Introverted, shy people often feel anxious talking to very outgoing people. I literally ran away from him. Oh, well (LOL). I accepted myself anyway and just kind of laughed. Take care.

Learn How to Get Out of a Very Hostile Home Environment

Article by Nelson Berry

A lot of people think that just because there’s no physical abuse in the home, they’re living in a very peaceful environment. Abuse comes in different shapes and sizes. It can be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, sexual, or social abuse. Regardless, if any or all of these types of abuses are present in your surroundings, you’re living in a very hostile habitat.

How do you deal with it? Better yet, how do you get out of it?

1. Don’t be afraid to speak out. Virtually all victims in an abusive environment want to go out of it, but they cannot. There are a lot of reasons for it. First, they are being threatened. It’s not unusual for the parent to say, “Don’t every say this to anyone or I’ll hurt you.” Second, they feel that if they leave the home, they would never have someone to call family.

I know that it’s hard to ever talk about abuse, but you just have to. You need to keep in mind the possible consequences of not speaking out. It can be passed from you to your children and your children’s children. The abuse has the potential to escalate endangering not only your life but also the lives of your loved ones, even that of the abuser. Most of all, the more you don’t speak, the less help gets in the way. The abuse will just keep on going, hurting yourself in different ways every day.

2. Talk to a professional. You may ask, “I’m now willing to talk. To whom should I go to?” It’s normal for us to directly go to our friends and family members, but the best person to approach to is a professional, such as counselor or even a police officer. These professionals have nothing else on their minds but your security and safety. They make sure that you will be properly protected and taken away from your hostile home.

Counselors can provide you with various therapies that will help you deal with the trauma, fear, anxiety, stress, and depression the abuse may have caused you.

3. Surround yourself with good people. Perhaps you have some loved ones you trust a lot. It’s the best time to get the much-needed support and encouragement from them. You can also join a variety of support groups. Many of them facilitate to abuse victims. It’s actually ideal since you don’t feel as if you’re alone. Further, you can learn from their own struggles and victories. If they can do it, so can you.

4. Develop positive thinking. When you’re being abused all the time, it’s hard for you to think of good things. However, one of the best ways to get over the depression and post traumatic stress really fast is to develop a more positive thought.

Every day try to look at yourself in the mirror and say the following subliminal messages:

I forgive the past, I forgive the aggressor.I will allow myself to grieve and to heal.I am moving forward day by day from the bad memories.

At first, these affirmations may sound superficial, but the more you repeat them, the more they become truths.

Social Anxiety Disorder Quiz

SocialAnxietyDisorderQuizUsing a Social Anxiety Disorder quiz or test can help you discover whether or not you need to seek further advice on your anxiety condition. Social Anxiety, also known as Social Phobia , is one of the most common mental health disorders in the United States today. Around 20 million of the American population has it at any one time. The statistics do not include those who have not reported their condition to mental health experts. If you feel you may be suffering from this type of anxiety, taking a social anxiety disorder quiz will help you make your own assessment. Asking yourself the following questions will help you verify if you are a potential sufferer:

1. Do you have an extreme fear of being in a social situation?

2. Do you always fear that people are judging you in whatever you are doing?

3. Do you prefer to be alone rather than going out with a group?

4. Do you need to drink alcoholic beverages before engaging in public speaking or performance?

5. Do you hate attending parties and other social gatherings?

If your answer is yes to the majority of the questions in the above social anxiety disorder quiz, then you are probably at risk for having social anxiety. Take note that doing a self-assessment is not a conclusive method of diagnosing the disorder. You would still need to consult the opinion of a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental healthcare professional for a definitive answer. Your Doctor would probably do another social anxiety disorder quiz, test or assessment before they can verify whether you have the disorder or not.

If your doctor does indeed diagnose you as having social anxiety disorder, they will recommend that you start some sort of treatment right away. Mental health disorders are highly treatable when they are still mild, because they have not yet caused any significant disturbances in your way of thinking. In this early period of the disorder, counseling is an effective form of treatment. Through counseling, your thoughts about your social anxiety are addressed and then challenged. In this manner, you will be able to construct positive thinking about this condition that will help you recover faster.

In cases where counseling has not proven to be effective, the Doctor may prescribe medications. Anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs are given to relieve the symptoms of the disorder. The doctor can also give medications that will control the physical manifestations of anxiety. It is important to continuously monitor for side effects of medications, especially the psychotic drugs. Psychotic drugs can induce irreversible side effects when taken in high doses.

If you are presently undergoing therapy, it is important for you to cooperate with the Doctor to facilitate fast recovery. The treatment can be very frustrating and difficult to cope with, especially during its initial phase, because you are subjected to a lot of changes and interaction with different people. It is also important to be compliant with your medication schedule. When you miss or do not take the prescribed dosage, your treatment can be rendered ineffective and this can set you back in your recovery. Improper treatment will eventually lead you to Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD, which is very difficult, but not impossible, to manage.

If your social anxiety disorder quiz suggests that you have social anxiety disorder, do not hesitate in going to the Doctor for assistance. Your information is kept confidential, so there is no need to worry about other people knowing of your condition.

Whats the difference between “Social Phobia” and “Social Anxiety Disorder”?
{I think there’s a slight difference, social phobia is the fear of being around people, while social anxiety disorder is a milder version where you don’t mind being in public but you get very nervous and you’ll usually find yourself constantly checking yourself like how you look and you pay close attention to everything you do hoping you look ok.good question, I read once that social phobia is the most common of all phobias, I bet there is no difference but social anxiety disorder is a new diagnosis/label for an old conditionThese terms mean roughly the same thing. It is thought of that peoples’ problems fall into neat categories but in reality that is rarely the case. Baseline of both these terms is that someone feels anxious around people. All the details may vary.

shy is when somebody preffers not to be the center of attention while social anxiety your constanly worrying what people think of you.I don’t think that’s right for what just4fun wrote, because that is the opposite. Shyness is when the person doesn’t want to be in the center of attention, because they are afraid of what people are going think of them. Social anxiety actually depends, because they could want, or not want to be in the center of attention and they have FEARS on what will happen; kind of like shyness but in a more worse way.shyness is mean you don’t like became center of attention by the people and something like antisocial.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) limits a sufferer’s life in every way, it is often the reason why they miss out many good opportunities, it can often cause other problems like stress and depression. It is very important to start curing social anxiety as soon as possible. If you think that you may have SAD, then you can find signs of social anxiety disorder from this article.

Feeling nervous or uncomfortable in social situations is not sign of social anxiety. It usually means that you’re shy, but there is a big difference between SAD and shyness. Shyness doesn’t usually put limits to persons life, they still go out and enter social situations, but SAD sufferers tend to avoid going to public places and they avoid social situations.

One of the most common signs of social anxiety disorder is self-consciousness. Sufferers can’t relax at social situations, it feels like everybody are judging them. They have constant fear that they will do or say something wrong, and this is why they choose to avoid social situations. Also they are afraid that other people will notice that they’re nervous or see their physical symptoms, like shaky voice or blushing.

Fear of giving a public speech or presentation. This is something that many people suffer, even people without SAD, but for people with SAD it’s worse, they are worried about the presentation even if it’s days away, and in many cases they choose not to do it at all, or if they do then, if things go wrong they usually leave.

When talking to larger audience or sometimes with just one person, SAD sufferers tend to have shaky voice and they can’t even finish a sentence before they need to take another breath. If they notice having these problems, the shaky voice usually gets worse.

National Survey Dispels Notion that Social Phobia is the Same as Shyness

Source: NIMH

Normal human shyness is not being confused with the psychiatric anxiety disorder known as social phobia, according to an NIMH survey comparing the prevalence rates of the two among U.S. youth. The study was published online ahead of print October 17, 2011, in the journal Pediatrics.

Background

Social phobia is a disabling anxiety disorder characterized by overwhelming anxiety and excessive self-consciousness in everyday social or performance situations. Critics of the diagnosis have suggested that psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies publicize social phobia, also known as social anxiety disorder, in order to increase sales of psychotropic medications, especially among youth. In addition, some have debated whether social phobia is just a “medicalization” of a normal variation in human temperament.

In response, Marcy Burstein, Ph.D., and colleagues at NIMH examined the rate of normal shyness among youth and its overlap with social phobia using data from the National Comorbidity Survey-Adolescent Supplement (NCS-A), a nationally representative, face-to-face survey of more than 10,000 teens aged 13-18 sponsored by NIMH. Social phobia was assessed using standard diagnostic criteria set by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-IV). To assess shyness, teens were asked to rate how shy they felt around peers that they did not know well.

Results of the Study

The authors found that while about half of youth identified themselves as shy, only 12 percent of shy youth also met criteria for social phobia in their lifetime. Moreover, among youth who did not identify themselves as shy, about 5 percent met criteria for social phobia, suggesting that social phobia and shyness are not necessarily directly related. Rather, the presence of social phobia may be independent of shyness in some instances.

In addition, those with social phobia were consistently more likely to also have another psychiatric disorder in their lifetime, like depression or a behavior or drug use disorder, compared to those who identified themselves as shy. Those with social phobia also showed higher levels of impairment in work or school, or among family or peers, though they were no more likely to be receiving professional treatment than those who were shy.

Finally, rates of prescribed medication use were low for all groups. Only about 2.3 percent of those with social phobia were taking the antidepressant paroxetine (commonly used to treat anxiety disorders), while 0.9 percent who described themselves as shy were taking it. In addition, those with social phobia were no more likely to be taking any prescribed psychiatric medication compared to the other groups.

Significance

The results suggest that social phobia is not simply shyness that has been inappropriately medicalized. Rather, social phobia affects a minority of youth and only a fraction of those who consider themselves to be shy. In addition, despite the greater disability that youth with social phobia experience and the greater likelihood that they will have another disorder, they are not more likely to be getting treatment compared to their peers, questioning the notion that these youth are being unnecessarily medicated continuing education for counselors

Answer by mamak2327
Not sure what you mean by anxiety disorder "phobia" but if you are refering to having an axiety disorder there is no way to just "get over it" by the weekend. It takes time to control your anxiety and panic and there's no quick solution that I've found. I took Paxil, Lexapro, Effexor and a succession of several other MAOIs for several years before I was finally able to cope with the issues causing the anxiety and panic. True Anxieties disorders do not just disappear. You may have a stress in your life causing anxiety for a time, but a real disorder is a constant battle that you have to fight. And there are different types of anxiety disorders, general anxiety, social anxiety, etc and there are different treatments for each. You generally need a treatment of counseling, meds and mental exercises. I did not do much counseling, so I can't attest to how much that helps, but medication is a great help to controlling anxiety. I wish I could help more on how to mentally control your disorder, but it's different for everyone as anxiety trigger differ. I would suggest having at least a few counseling sessions so you can get some ideas of what to do when you are feeling a panic attack coming or feeling anxious. And talk to your GP about meds. Good luck

Communication Anxiety - Hardly Gone

Communication Anxiety - Hardly Gone

On 8/1/09, the guys of Hardly Gone rocked the house with a variety of great cover tunes as well as their very own material. The Saturday night Coffeehouse was buzzin with good music and good times with good friends!

Don't Let Communication Anxiety Drag You Down

Communication anxiety, also referred to as public speech anxiety is a common occurrence among people. Those people, who probably show a great deal of confidence in most situations, will avoid a situation where public speaking is involved. In fact, these people experience communication anxiety due to stress. In a survey conducted on 'fears', a majority of people rated public speaking as a fate worse than death.

Communication Anxiety And Anxiety Disorder

The symptoms of communication anxiety are generally accompanied by uneasiness. Depending on the degree of uneasiness, it could mean that the individual cares enough about the audience to want to speak well. In such cases, it becomes a positive situation where it motivates the individual to do better. When the anxiety is excessive, it turns into an anxiety disorder. Some people also go through social anxiety disorder. This makes them uncomfortable in public and anxious even in their daily routine whether it involves interpersonal skills with one person or a group. They carry a constant fear of being watched or judged by others. This chronic fear can lead to emotional upsets and health problems. Roughly 15 million Americans suffer from social anxiety disorder. Since it is so similar to communication anxiety, the two can often be confused.

Communication Training

If you suffer from communication anxiety, you can seek communication training to help you overcome it. These training sessions teach the participants the techniques and interpersonal skills to help them handle communication with ease and confidence. Their listening skills are also enhanced so that they may recognize and circumvent communication barriers. Communication training also helps understand what effective verbal and non-verbal communication is all about. In addition to this, the following are covered:

]]>

• Different communication styles and how to recognize them and identifying your own style

• How to assess your communication

• How to use the right words to express yourself

• Verbal and nonverbal communication skills

These communication-training sessions also cover telephone skills and help the individual make a plan of action so that they may work at improving their interpersonal skills on an ongoing basis.

Tips

People who experience a high level of communication anxiety certainly need help, and often, self-help can make a big difference. Here are some tips that can overcome the anxiety.

1. Adequate preparation

In a public speaking situation, the communication anxiety manifests itself most during the first five minutes, after which it gets better. To resolve this, good preparation can help since being prepared will increase confidence. If there is a fear of forgetting, you might want to use mnemonics to help you recall vital points. Needless to say, plenty of practice is also essential.

2. Advance Self talk

Realize that you feel excitement, not fear. Public speaking is a wonderful opportunity where you get to share your expertise. When you look at it from this angle, you will feel a sense of power rather than fear or anxiety.

3. Deep breathing exercises

It is a fact that slow deep breathing can help communication anxiety and bring down stress levels. When you are anxious, it is tough to be normal.

4. Think positive

When you think about events that make you happy, or people you love, create mental imagery of these things. This will boost your energy and make you more confident, helping you combat your anxiety.

Communication anxiety is easy to overcome with the tips outlined above. You can even consider nutritional supplements that can help you increase your confidence levels, boost your energy and reduce stress. The benefits of SociaTropin, the world's first social enhancing and anxiety-eliminating nutritional supplement are being enjoyed by millions of people. SociaTropin is designed to elevate emotional well-being, eliminate social anxiety, and boost natural energy levels to significantly improve a person's relationships and social life.

What is Adjustment Disorder? (Mental Health Guru)

Coping with change can be hard, and for some people, the stress and despair of managing change can be debilitating. mental.healthguru.com

Coping With Situational Anxiety

Mild anxiety and panic attacks may happen anytime and anywhere, that is why it is important that you know how to cope with these emergency situations. A situational anxiety, anxiety while driving; can be very dangerous especially when traveling alone more so when traveling long distance. This situational anxiety is so fast and furious that can have a very detrimental effect, which in extreme cases, can lead you to:

-accidents

- prevent you from driving at all

- Unnecessarily hire someone to drive you to places, which could take a toll on your budget

- Trigger your other fears that can lead to full blown panic attack in slightly similar situations

The first thing to keep in mind in such cases is to stay calm.[ Remember that our perception towards something subliminally affects our behavior toward it| Keep in mind that how we perceive something greatly affects our way or reacting towards it}. If you start to feel anxious even before you get inside your car.It will help you a lot if you just stay away from your car for a few minutes and then do the following :

- Sit back, close your eyes and relax for a bit

- Try to breathe slowly as you can, this helps in the circulation of blood which in turn relaxes the muscle and the mind.

]]>

When you're done with those things mentioned above it is a must that you maintain a positive thinking that you are capable of handling situations that may seem difficult for you to overcome. Once you have remained positive then your perception towards driving will also become positive. There's no overnight success especially in dealing with deep rooted fluky fears like anxiety while driving. But it is also a must that you take the time to learn how to cope with it rather than suffer the consequences of just ignoring it because anxiety attacks can happen in a place and time that you least expect. [It is always best to understand your condition and know that there are a lot of things you can do manage the situation|It has always been very helpful to learn and understand how to overcome this anxiety attacks }.

Here are some tips on how to cope with situational anxiety while driving:

1.) Breathe in deeply while driving

2.) As much as possible, try to listen to relaxing music while driving.

3.) [Take time to move your body slightly|Move or stretch your body a little bit}. If you feel that the panic attack is most likely to occur, take time to move your head, shoulders, face, and neck. Intense concentration on the fear will worsen the situation. By moving your body, you will stimulate your senses with other things and divert your attention.

4.) If you feel tension building-up, grip on the wheel and then try to release it gently. Suppressed and unreleased tension will trigger full blown panic attacks especially if you had already had an experience. If you get a firm and strong grip on something while having these attacks will only increase your tension.

Never make any attempt to just ignore the incoming panic attack and continue driving. Park you vehicle at a convenient spot and try to calm yourself with the techniques we have enumerated. Only when you feel really relax, should you attempt to drive again. These panic attacks will eventually disappear once you know how to deal with it.

Another important thing to remember is to learn and accept anxiety as a mental disorder which can be controlled by your positive volition to overcome it.

The answer lies in you really. The thing you need to do is just to keep on searching for the key and sometime soon, you will unlock the roomful of anxiety in you.
