(More customer

a printer to also buy a HP - maybe they could talk to each other.
Mistake #1. I purchased this "printer" in September 2008 and have
since gotten to learn how to uninstall & reinstall the printer
several times a week. The little light on the front burned out
(after 3 months) and can not be fixed (HP support agreed). However,
it is ONLY this little light that tells the machine you have
cleared the paper jam, or that you have refilled the paper. So now,
EVERY SINGLE TIME I need to refill the paper (because I forgot to
load it daily) I get to uninstall & reinstall. If I get any
type of jam, I get to uninstall & reinstall. If anything
happens - including putting in new ink cartridges - I get to
uninstall & reinstall. AND HP Support agrees this is my only
option, other than buying another "printer." The machine does not
recognize original HP ink cartridges, so the machine can never tell
you the estimated ink level and frequently I get error messages of
"not corect cartridge." And you can guess how I get to clear this
message (uninstall again, reboot computer, reinstall printer).
Yes I have gotten quick at doing this, but still it is not an
enjoyable task to having to do several times a week, because you
bought this "printer!"
I am only waiting until I exhaust my inventory of those expensive
ink cartridges until I dispose of this piece of trash. I hope
Amazon prints this, although I admit I did not buy this thing from
them.

(More customer
reviews)If you're in the market for a fax machine this
is the one. I also owned the Brother 2800. This is the new and
revised version of the 2800. Apparently Brother does improve upon
their faults. You can see my review on the 2800 and the downfalls.
For a re-cap:
1. 2800 had paper jams when using old paper. The 2820 has a paper
feeder like their printers which greatly reduces jams. (I also own
brothers laser printer) Now I can use recycled (one-side already
printed) paper and not have to deal with jams. Also 2820 holds much
more paper in its tray, so you wont have to worry about running
out.
2. 2820 has a new feed system which reduces jams when faxing out. I
had problems faxing 20+ pages with the 2800, now none with 2820.
However they say there is a limit to 20 pages (just add more pages
as they feed through).
3. The only downfall is the toner is slightly more expensive. It
does print more pages, but does cost a bit more. Fax machine is
more expensive also.
Overall, if you don't want to deal with the 2800 problems then pay
the extra money for the 2820 and feel confident with its
performance. If money is an issue, get the 2800. Personally the few
extra bucks is worth it over aggravation when trying to
fax/receive.
Another added bonus feature: This fax can also connect to the
computer through USB allowing to work as a printer. I currently
have this set-up and works very well. Have no issues priting with
this fax machine. Great feature if you don't want to buy a printer.
(2800 does not have this feature)

(More customer

image quality was very important to me. After reading some reviews
of this printer, I learned that some people had problems with tram
lines appearing on photo paper. That is a problem I have yet to
see, and thus far I have been completely satisfied with this
printer. The automatic paper type sensor is annoying at times, but
it does what it is supposed to do. Also, having a "print cancel"
button is something someone should have thought of about ten years
ago, when printers were more prone to spit out random ASCII
characters, but it is still a nice thing to have now.
My only caveat about this product is the high price of ink, where a
regular-sized black ink cartridge can cost [a lot], and a color one
even more. I am willing to pay that since my last printer died
because I had been using generic ink cartridges, but think about
long-run costs if you plan on doing a lot of printing with this
printer.

(More customer
reviews)We are a long-established, technology-based
counsulting and services company. We have thirty computers and nine
HP printers on the LAN. We bought two 6210s for use at work
stations for light to medium use (5 - 30 pages per day).
We could not be more pleased with the quality of the printed pages
and the operation, but avoid heavy use because of excessive ink
cost per page. (This is the reason why the printer cost seems
absurdly low.)
Scanner, printer, and fax all worked great. The unit is very, very
compact and handsomely styled - a far cry from the earlier
all-in-ones that these replaced. The paper feed tray could perhaps
be improved. A small amount of care must be used to prevent
stuffing the paper in too far.
Print cartidges have very little capacity. The color cartridge has
a list price of $32.00 and yields 260 "standard" pages. That's 12
cents per page. For the same standard page our older HP R60
all-in-one delivers 690 pages for a list price of $40.00 or $0.06
per page. I have not investigated black printing costs; but the
black cartridge is also small. Googling "cost per page" and printer
model will get you the cost info from a third party.

(More customer
reviews)This printer satisfies every gripe I have about
printers. Usually there's some quality about one that makes you
say, "It would have been perfect, but if only it didn't have this
one problem." Each aspect of this printer is as good or better than
pretty much all other printers out there at this time. And I'm a
person who is relentless when it comes to researching products
before buying them for myself.
Resolution: It goes up to 1200x1200, which is the highest out there
currently. 1200x1200 is best for text. But it also does 2400x600,
which is typically better for graphics. Most other laser printers
only do up to 2400x600.
Toner: Cheap! You can pick up "compatible" cartridges for $30 now
which will last 8000 pages. This is the cheapest of any printer
I've seen. Other printers (such as HP) cost $70 for 2000-3000 pages
even with a "compatible" cartridge.
Print quality: Excellent. I used a magnifying glass to try to
detect any imperfections in text or graphics but didn't find much.
No white raster lines, "jaggies", smudging, bleeding, noise or
random dots printed anywhere. Large black rectangles are solid and
consistent. Gray scale patterns didn't appear to have any
defects.
Memory: 32MB. Most other laser printers only do up to 8MB
currently. You need memory if you want to do full-page graphics. It
lets you expand memory by adding an inexpensive ($30 new) 512MB
memory card. Many printers don't even allow expansion, or they
force you to buy their own special memory cards at a huge
price.
Paper: Doesn't jam. Easy to load. Has a manual feeder also. Allows
2 extra paper feeders if you want. Most printers don't allow
that.
Duplex mode: Fast, easy to use, saves paper. I'll never buy another
printer without it.
Paper curl: You wouldn't notice it unless you were specifically
looking for it. Barely detectable even with duplex mode printing
and cheap paper. Even envelopes print with hardly any curl.
Rear output tray: Has it! Many printers don't. Its predecessor
model didn't. This "straight out the back" mode allows you to print
envelopes, cards, and special paper without ever bending it if you
really want perfection.
On/Off switch: Has one! I mention this because many printers don't.
Without one, a printer is left on all the time, which uses 10 watts
of power (not much, but still) and reduces product lifetime
somewhat.
Lifetime: The predecessor model (HL-5250DN) has great reviews.
People said they're still using it 3 years later. The HL-5370DW has
just about the same design, and I expect it will last a while. Not
a cheap, throw-away printer like you often see.
Networking: Haven't tried it. But it has it, and it will become
very useful when I get a wireless laptop to add to my existing
desktop PC (both will need to share it).
Languages: It speaks both Postscript 3 and PCL. That guarantees it
will be compatible with any OS out there, even older ones. And
since it doesn't use "host based" language like cheaper printers
do, it won't eat up your CPU and slow things down during
printing.
In conclusion, this is a well-designed, high quality printer with
low long-term operating costs, and I'm completely satisfied. I'll
add an update to this review if I ever encounter problems with
it.

(More customer

stars or 5. I decided on 4 only because I'm not thrilled with the
print area of this machine; always a half inch at the bottom no
matter what. All other aspects are terrific. It is fast, quiet, and
the duplexer is so very neat that you find yourself looking for
things to print. And when I say fast, I do mean fast; in draft
mode, the 6127 prints good quality at a remarkable rate. At "fast
normal", the speed and quality are better than my old Epson Stylus
740. "Normal and Best" modes are slower, but still impressive. The
addition of the 250 sheet paper tray would allow loading 2
different paper types, but it is quite expensive. Overall, I am
very happy with this printer and would recommend it to anyone
interested in a good buy.

bought for Christmas. The print quality is very good and of course,
I can't really complain considering it was free. However, the ink
warnings this thing gives you can get extremely annoying. I'm still
going on my 1st color ink cartridge, and from about a month ago,
it's been giving me warnings that the color is low and should be
changed, when it prints fine! I guess this can also be considered a
pro because it means you get more ink than you think, but it's
obvious they make these warnings come up just to get you to buy
another ink cartridge and waste money when the other one is still
perfectly fine.A warning comes up every time when I want to print
and when I start my computer up and they cannot be disabled! Other
than that though, it's a good printer. I've only had one paper jam
thus far.

printers and ALL of them have the same problems. First, the paper
frequently "jams" in that every 20-30 pages printed it stops
printing because it detects a jam; when you open up the paper tray,
however, you find a page that the printer has attempted to feed but
failed - it's not even really jammed in the traditional sense. The
"jam" happens less often when the paper tray is full so even though
you can put a whole ream of paper into it you have to fill it up
constantly so it won't "jam" as often. One other thing: when the
pages feed out of the printer they do not collect together anything
close to neatly. After a few pages, the pile quickly becomes a
jumbled mess with some pages almost coming off the pile. Do not buy
this overpriced piece of plastic.

(More customer
reviews)This is the newer version of the MFC-8860 from
Brother, and is a step up from the MFC-8480 as the 8890 provides
full duplexing on scanning, copying, and faxing. The MFC-8480 only
provides duplex on printing.
I have Macs--several of them--so I've been looking around for a
while for a multi-function laser machine I could use for printing,
scanning, copying, and the occasional fax. I'm thoroughly impressed
with this machine so far, and following the install from CD,
everything just plain worked. The printer driver was installed, it
included a fax option right in the driver itself (on one of the
print option tabs), and so was the TWAIN driver for scanning, and
so was their ControlCenter software, which provides access to all
the settings for the printer, documentation, and a bunch of
customizable presets for the different functions of the printer
(most useful for scanning different kinds of documents to different
apps on the Mac, including an OCR capability).
The duplex is great--the auto-document feeder reads both sides of
documents for copying, scanning, and even faxing. Most less
expensive models (like the 8480 and a Canon MF4370 I recently
tested) will only duplex on printing, but the 8890 will both read
and produce 2-sided docs for any function.
Network capabilities for Macs is also top-notch, with both wired
and wireless network capabilities, you can use every function of
the machine over the network, with seemingly quick transfer rates,
even high-res color scanning. By the way, my previous favorite
printer vendor, Canon, does not support network scanning to Macs on
ANY of their multi-function printers, but this is not apparent
until you buy one and try to do it--their support has since told me
this is true. I think the only thing the Brother 8890 doesn't do
via network to a Mac is faxing--it supports some kind of Windows
fax server that Apple has no equivalent of. But since you can
simply scan a document and have it sent to your Mac over the
network instead, I hardly care.
So, if you want a fully network-capable machine that works with
Macs, this is your machine. The 8480 is a bit less expensive, but
does not fully support duplexing, for those with simpler office
needs.

(More customer

heavy-duty multi-function machine. Weighs a ton and takes up lots
of desk space, but reliably spits out large quantities of faxes,
printouts, and copies. I had a couple of cheaper ink-jet fax
machines, and they would choke all the time on large documents.
This one has yet to have a problem, with months of heavy use.
Scanner and scanner software works well and is easy to use, even
for the non-technical.

(More customer

it supassed my wildest dreams. The printing quality is very high in
both color and B&W. The copier and fax capabilites are very
simple to use. And the HP software is very easy to scan in
pictures. Even the ink cartridges are reasonably prices ... Setup
was a breeze with the USB connection. I set it up in under 15
minutes.
I would highly recommend this printer for some one looking for a
all-in one machine. While it might be a little expensive, the
quality is very high.

(More customer
reviews)I've had my HP 2300n LaserJet printer for 8
months, and I'm very satisfied with it. It's my second HP LaserJet.
My first was a LaserJet IIID which I bought in 1992 and still use
today. I wouldn't have bought the 2300n except that some movers
handled my IIID roughly and damaged the duplexing unit which I had
been using almost constantly. It really saves paper and file space
to print on both sides.
When not in use, the 2300n goes into a power-down mode which is
silent and makes it seem to be turned off except that an indicator
light lets you know it's still on. Send a print job to it while
powered down and it immediately springs to life and processes the
task just as if it had not been powered down at all. This is a
great feature because the machine does not wear itself out whirring
away, making noise and using energy as the IIID does when not
turned off.
The 2300n is fast. The IIID's speed of 8ppm was considered fast
when I bought it, but after getting used to 25ppm, I'd hate to give
it up. The 2300n prints at a pace I associate more with
photocopiers.
My IIID had excellent print quality until last year, about 11 years
after I bought it. The output has become dirty. It needs cleaning
and servicing, but that's not practical now, especially considering
that I live far from a service center and my 12 year-old IIID
printer weighs 75 pounds.
By comparison, the thirty-one pound 2300n is much easier to lift
and move. I also like the fact that it takes up much less space
than the IIID does, and it doesn't have those paper trays
protruding out of it. The paper is nicely tucked away inside, where
it should be, in an easy to open drawer. To accomplish this, the
machine is intelligently designed to be slightly taller which is
not a problem at all, just a better use of space.
The IIID has only 300 dpi resolution which is fine for text, but
not so fine for graphics. The 2300n prints beautiful graphics, not
in color, of course, but when I want color, I use an inkjet. When I
want to print a picture with the 2300n, the high resolution is very
nice.
I'm still using the toner cartridge that came with the shipped
unit, but I keep a spare cartridge on hand. A great feature of the
2300n is the economical printing mode. I can easily turn this
feature on and off (from within the Windows XP printing menu) and
make my toner supply last longer. Unlike with the IIID, which also
has an adjustment for toner consumption, with the 2300n, the
econo-mode feature takes effect immediately. It makes the print
lighter, but it's still quite readable and appropriate for those
times when dark print quality is not needed.
Whenever I think of my HP 2300n LaserJet, I always get a nice
feeling. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. It takes
up little space, It's fast, It duplexes, It's economical with time,
energy and toner, It's quiet, It networks, It has wireless
capability, It's plug and play, It has an easy to use control panel
on the front, and I feel confident that it will perform whenever I
call on it.
I've come to trust the Hewlett Packard name for quality and
performance. I teach English at a university in Japan where I write
and print a lot of educational materials. Sometimes I make
workbooks and print them in my office. I need a workhorse of a
printer I can depend on to produce clean clear results. If my 2300n
holds up only half as well as my old IIID did, I'll still be very
satisfied.

HP LaserJet 2300n
Printer
A black and white workgroup printer from Hewlett Packard, the 2300N
produces high-quality prints that are perfect for both home and
professional applications. A 1,200 x 1,200 dpi maximum resolution
ensures that your prints are sharp and crisp, while laser printing
technology helps eliminate smudging and blotchy text.
Able to handle a wide variety of media, including labels, plain
paper, card stock, envelopes, transparencies, and more, this
versatile printer also supports paper sizes up to 8.5 by 14 inches.
A 250-sheet input tray and 100-sheet multi-purpose tray come
standard, while the internal 256 MHz processor helps provide print
times of up to 25 ppm, with a time-to-first-print of around 10
seconds.
Weighing just over 31 pounds, the 2300N has a footprint of 16.2 by
17.7 inches and emits around 67 dB of noise during normal printing.
The 110 V (50/60 Hz) AC power supply consumes approximately 426 W
of power during operation and around 9.6 W during standby.
Fully networkable, the 2300N provides a number of standard
connectivity options, including USB and parallel ports, while an
internal Fast Ethernet print server makes hooking up to existing
networks a snap. PC and Mac compatible, the 2300N also comes backed
with a one-year limited warranty.
