To mark the 20th anniversary of a brand known for its beautiful feminine scents, Vera Wang Parfum is collaborating with David Jones, also celebrating their very own anniversary.
The David Jones Flower Show is in its 25th year in 2010 and what better way to celebrate than to team up with Vera Wang Parfum for the launch of their new limited edition fragrance Vera Wang Anniversary.
The fresh new scent is bursting with lush woody floral and opens with sumptuous red apple leaves, Sicilian bergamot, mandarin oil and a few drops of cool dew.
At its depth is white gardenia, orange flowers and rose absolute. Immediately followed at the base is the warmth of cedar wood, silken musk, golden amber crystals and orris to balance out its beauty.
Held in a bottle influenced by the softness of lavender, the scent is encased in carefully designed glass with a platinum neck and a clear glass cap, referencing the classic Vera Wang fragrances.
The essence of Vera Wang Anniversary is quite clearly that of a celebration, evidenced by the bright, welcoming colors of the feminine yet modern bottle.
Vera Wang Anniversary gives the modern woman the chance to embrace her femininity and celebrate the happiness in her world. The Eau De Parfum is available in two sizes: 50ml RRP dollarsignr130 and 100ml RRP dollarsignr170.
The David Jones Flower Show is an annual event welcoming the arrival of spring that sees the ground floor of the Flagship Elizabeth Street store reworked into a floral extravaganza which I always make the effort to go into to view, it’s just so deliciously beautiful.
Vera Wang has expanded into a lifestyle brand, selling everything from jewelry to sunglasses to shoes, but she is still best known for the bridal gowns that launched her eponymous fashion business in 1990. Truly Pink is her fifth and latest fragrance, debuting 5 years after her initial effort, Vera Wang for women. The notes include white freesia, cassis, lychee blossom, peony, pink rose accord, creamy woods, iris and violet wood.
You would expect a perfume from a bridal designer to be unabashedly romantic and perhaps a bit conservative, and that is exactly what you’ll get with Truly Pink. The top notes are vibrant and modern, with bright citrus and sweet (but not quite candied) fruit; the vibrancy fades, for the most part, with the top notes, leaving a very soft, very pink floral centered around rose. The base is creamy and pale and clean, and the iris lends a velvety finish that doesn’t quite go to powder.
It is not quite fussy, but it has none of the casual, laid back feel of Stella McCartney’s Stella — this is a pink fragrance in every possible sense of the word. It is resolutely pretty, and certainly more pretty than sexy; there is nothing in the least earthy or over-ripe about these roses. It has a younger and perhaps less sophisticated character than the original Vera Wang signature fragrance, still, it is not a modern department store perfume for ‘tweens, having none of the requisite sugared tropical fruits in the top or flowers blurred to anonymity in the heart. It just is what it is: a very pink, very wearable, very romantic perfume for the blushing spring bride.
Truly Pink is an Eau de Parfum, and will be sold in 50 (exclusive to Sephora) and 100 ml bottles. Look for matching body products later in the year. If you’re so inclined, at the moment FTD is selling a Vera Wang Truly Pink set, with 12 pink roses in “an exclusive box designed by Vera Wang” and a miniature (4 ml) bottle of the Eau de Parfum, for $70.
Vera Wang in cooperation with the house of Coty presents her new perfume named Vera Wang Look in November 2008, when her fashion collection fall/winter 2008-2009 will also be presented. Design of her new collection goes through a change of colors, moods, models…
The new perfume Vera Wang Look is closely connected with her fashion line. It represents style, desire, fashion and all positive energy the fashion line introduces. The perfume brings self-esteem, whether it is visually or olfactively.
Look was created in cooperation with Firmenich. It introduces notes of mandarin, watery greens, litchi and golden deliches apple in the top notes. The heart incorporates lily, freesia and jasmine, while the base notes introduce a rhapsody of sweet vanilla, musk, oak moss and patchouli.
Commercial for this perfume is very interesting since the bottle, a glass prism, is set in the first plan, while a model is standing behind it and is looking into us, which expresses that the model is watching the world through a prism.
The package is of matt grey color and includes light grey contours which are visible on the box and on the name Look, which is written in light orange color in the middle of the package. Advertising campaign was made by Steven Meisel.
The perfume is available as 30ml (1.0oz), 50ml (1.7oz.) and 100ml (3.4oz), in Eau de Parfume concentration. The new perfume Vera Wang Look is accompanied with a fragrant collection of body care products: body lotion, body cream and bath (200 ml each).
Bouquet is the newest fragrance from Vera Wang. It joins her signature bridal collection:
Explaining the inspiration behind the scent, the designer declared: “For me, flowers and fragrance are the perfect expression of love and commitment, and a bouquet symbolises that union. In the hands of a radiant woman, a bouquet can be magical.” (Via moodiereport)
I was rather surprised by the ad visual (shown); the model is wearing a bridal gown, but she looks a bit edgy for Vera Wang, no? It certainly isn’t the pretty-in-pink kind of imagery we saw for Vera Wang’s last bridal fragrance, Truly Pink. Truly Pink wasn’t astoundingly original or anything, but it was nicely done and very wearable (I’d wear it if it fell from the skies), and not quite so conservative as the original Vera Wang fragrance, which strikes me as so overwhelmingly bridal that I’d have a hard time wearing it in anything other than a bridal gown.
Bouquet opens with citrus (rather sharp for a few minutes) and watery fresh notes tinged with green (the notes: dew drops, bergamot, black currant leaves, paper white narcissus, honeysuckle, lavender musk, cedar, iris). The heart is blended floral notes, very fresh and crisp and green, and the lavender, while soft, adds a bit of interest (and shades of the au courant “touch of masculine”) in the dry down. It gets just slightly powdery at the end — is powder obligatory for brides? — and while it has a more modern, less resolutely bridal feel than the original Vera Wang scent, it doesn’t really stray from the Vera Wang “romantic and feminine” comfort zone. It is about the last thing I’d think to put on the bride in the picture, who I can imagine spraying on Guerlain Jicky and then knocking back a few at the reception.
Bouquet is fine and it didn’t kill me to wear it for a few days, but as with so many recent mainstream department store offerings, I had the dispiriting feeling that I’d smelled something very like it, and fairly recently. I could have written my first novel in the time I’ve spent over the past year figuring out what all these new scents smell “just” like, and I’ve given up — what’s the difference? If you’re looking for something inoffensive to wear to your wedding, Bouquet will do; if you’d like to wear something romantic and feminine but with a bit more personality, check out Angela’s article on Wedding perfumes or just take my advice and wear Ormonde Jayne Frangipani.
Vera Wang Bouquet was developed by perfumer Loc Dong. It is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products.
Prada’s new Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger is the first in a projected yearly series of limited edition “Ephemeral Infusion” fragrances drawing on fragrance notes from the harder-to-find (and more expensive) Prada Exclusive scents. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the Ephemeral Infusion fragrances are designed to “evoke a light memory of the original ingredient”.*
I adore the Prada fragrance line, most or all of which (including this new one) was developed by perfumer Daniela Andrier. I adore Prada Infusion d’Iris, which along with Prada No. 4 Fleur d’Oranger was listed as a progenitor of Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger. Another iris + orange blossom combo, Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile Eau de Toilette, is one of my favorite spring/summer fragrances. So while I didn’t tempt fate by assuming I’d adore Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger, I was pretty sure I’d at least like it.
Nope. I do like it for about 15 seconds: the opening is lively and spring-like, and does smell very much like Infusion d’Iris with a goodly layer of sparkling orange blossom on top (the notes: neroli, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine and serendoline, whatever that might be). After that, everything goes wrong. The sparkle vanishes, and it turns soapy — I don’t always mind soapy, but this is very soapy — and flat. I would not say that it smells bad, in fact, it’s arguably a pleasant scent, but it reminds me of laundry flakes + orange baby aspirin flavor + musk in a way that is annoying when it’s on your skin and following you around all day, and as is the case with anything I don’t love, it lasts hours upon hours, and the sillage seems monstrous (it probably isn’t; still, it does seem stronger to me than Infusion d’Iris).
Reviews around the internets have been mixed so far, and I have a feeling many people are going to love Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger. As always, it’s worth a shot if you are so inclined, and if you’ve already tried it and loved it, do comment!
