feature film-cartoon starring the 6-year-old princess of NYC's
Plaza hotel--Eloise.
The movie begins with a legend of "Diamond Jim Johnson" whose ghost
is said to haunt the Plaza every Halloween. Well the legend comes
true and it's up to Eloise and her friends to solve the mystery. Is
it a ghost or is it something else that's causing all the strange
goings on at the Plaza?
Anyway, I'm not familiar with the Eloise stories but this cartoon
was fun to watch...although the drawings reminded me of the Beavis
and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 1 cartoons.
There are plenty of star voices like Lynn Redgrave, Tim Curry, Brad
Garrett and Jim Belushi who bring this story to life.
And the DVD provides plenty of "easter eggs" (like in the elevator
at the main menu you can choose some of the floor numbers for a
hidden surprise) and there's a bonus segment called "plaza pals"
which allows you to find out more about the characters. And there
are trailers for other "Eloise" DVDs.
The kids should love it and it's great to add to the vault for
Halloween classics.

(More customer
reviews)FYI: there are two versions of this animated
treatment of the beloved C.S. Lewis classic, and since they're
pretty cheaply priced, I'd advise any true fan to purchase
both.
The reason for this, is that the newer, Special Edition version,
has been trimmed on the top and bottom of the frame, to make it
widescreen (even though Amazon has it erroneously labelled as, Full
Screen, it's widescreen).
Full screen is the way that this animated special was produced and
shown, back in 1979, as it was made for TV, and was never intended
to be shown in a theatre.
But why not just pick up the original, Non-special Edition version
(as it is the full screen version) and not bother with this
version; well, there are some very good reasons to get this version
as well as the original, and that is because the, Special Edition
version has some very nice extras, including an audio commentary
with the director and producers, a deleted scene, as well as a nice
little bit of character design sheets (including an early designs
of the, White Witch) and drawings.
Also, the picture has been remastered to some extent, making the
colours more vibrant and less washed out, then the previous
edition.
But where the, Special Edition loses points, is it's unnecessary
cropping of the top and bottom of the image, to make it
widescreen.
It's actually kind of hard to watch in this widescreen version, as
legs and the tops of heads are constantly being cut off to
accommodate the widescreen format, which makes little sense, as the
average person doesn't own a widescreen TV anyway, and even if they
did, an animorphic transfer would have been more then adequate for
widescreen TV viewing.
Widescreening of movies is done, in theory, to see more picture on
the TV screen, and not to end up losing it, which is the problem in
this case.
So, die hard fans should definitely get both versions, but for the
average viewer, I'd opt for the regular edition over this one.

movie and when Evolution started i thought it was better than the
film.I have been a collector of the figures for nearly a year and
find some of the reviews on this DVD rubbish.
Episode 1: Growing Pains, this episode is where the Brotherhood try
to reveal the identities of the X-Men at the soccer tournament.
Episode 2: Power Surge, this is one of the main stages in Jean's
life. Her powers increase rapidly and she can't hold them so the
X-Men are left to save the day and a fellow student's future.
Episode 3: Bad-a-bing Bada-Boom:
Another good story line featuring a new recruit's father who
attempts to steal the carnival money.Surprisingly stopped by the
brotherhood who want Boom-Boom as a new member.
Episode 4:Fun& Games Mystique returns luring the proffessro out
to repair Juggernaut's prison and encourages the X-Men to hold a
party giving her and a computer geek access to cerebro whilst she
escape's with some mutant data on DVD.
Episode 4 being the best as the whole action extravaganza except
for the cliff hanger ending. What will Mystique do to Boom-Boom when
she finds her living in her room. This DVD has extra's such as
detail's of X-Men and the brotherhood.

(More customer

of "Punky Brewster" was brought to DVD in February 2005. Now, after
much anxious anticipation, Season 3 of this beloved show gets a
summer release for everyone to enjoy!
The third season introduced a lot of changes to the Punky
character. She was still just as sweet and energetic as always, but
now that she's a fast-growing fifth grader, she traded in her
pigtails for more of a 1980's pre-teen look and went from never
wanting a boyfriend (remember that endearing Valentine's episode
from Season 1?) to developing a few crushes. Season 3 zooms in a
lot on Punky's friends, school, boys, and the craziness of growing
up, but through it all she remains a kid: the same old kind,
loving, "Spunky Punky" who adores her dad Henry, is loyal to her
friends, and decorates everyone's life with a youthful spirit.
That classic "Punky" touch is sprinkled over the entire season and
is truly charming for fans. But just as there are many quirky and
colorful episodes (our beloved Punky becomes the school's nosiest
gossip columnist, imagines life as a dog, and gets into an R-rated
movie by disguising herself as the world's feistiest old lady),
there are also some dramatic and heartwarming moments--perhaps more
than either of the first two seasons. The beauty and closeness of
the Punky/Henry relationship is fearlessly shown in many episodes,
including "Metamorphosis," where Punky fears that Henry will stop
loving her now that she is growing up; "So Long, Studio," where
Henry is encouraged by his spirited daughter to open up a brand-new
business that he could have never fathomed before; and most
notably, "Un-Hooking Henry," which finds Punky sacrificing her own
sleep to help the most precious person in her life overcome a
sleeping pill addiction. Be sure to watch also for a knockout
performance from young actress Cherie Johnson in "The Anniversary,"
a genuine tearjerker where we finally learn what happened to
Cherie's parents. The heaviness of the episode is considerably out
of character for this series, but 10-year-old Johnson blows it
right out of the water with a phenomenol portrayal that will make
you wonder why her acting career wasn't more extensive. Soleil Moon
Frye was wonderful as Punky, but I have to say that Cherie Johnson
was the one who dominated the stage with her adorable presence and
remarkably expressive acting skills.
Those who grew up watching this show will love watching the
episodes all over again, and it is upbeat and cheery enough to reel
in all kinds of new fans, as well. This Season 3 set will contain
more of the "It's Punky Brewster" cartoons that spiced up the first
two season sets, but no interviews are included. It was great to
see Ami Foster and Cherie Johnson on Season 1 and George Gaynes on
Season 2, and hopefully they can get Soleil Moon Frye to top off
the final 4th season DVD with her insights on the show. I would
also love to see Alan (played by the adorable Casey Ellison) all
grown up, or TK Carter (who played Mike Fulton), but we'll see what
they can get.
A bit cheesy much of the time ("80's kids" who are revisiting the
show should be aware that watching this as an adult is a completely
different experience), but never anything short of endearing,
"Punky Brewster" is a memorable mirror of innocence that now has
just one season to go until the entire series is on DVD! Bring on
Season 4 as soon as possible!! :)

"Contains some violence and brief nudity," there is no nudity in
these episodes. The best part was when SS Goku hits Frieza in the
gut and he coughs up a truckload of blood, that was so cool. I also
liked the music that played while Frieza was powering up to maximum
strength. He, however, still couldn't really mach Goku's power
because after Frieza hurtles him into a bunch of molten lava, Goku
comes bouncing back. During the time when Goku was in the lava, it
was cool when Gohan started beating Frieza up (he did the same
thing when Frieza stabbed Krillin with his horns). It was also
funny when Dr. Briefs, Yajirobe, Chi-Chi, and Master Roshi were all
stacked up on each other trying to keep the graphic communicator
stable while they were talking to Gohan. I've seen the episodes
after these, too, Goku kicks Frieza's @$$! Buy this movie, it's one
to remember!

(More customer
reviews)Connie the Cow is such a delightful character!
In addition to her old friends, she introduces her newest friends
who are just as sweet...Snooze the turtle, Stork, Grouch, Belinda
the Goat, and more! The 6 episodes included on this DVD are: "A Hot
Day," "The Race," "Hide & Seek," "The Vain Bird." "Connie &
the Stork," and "The Lucky Stone." What's wonderful about these
stories, is that each one has a moral. For example...in "The Lucky
Stone," Connie learns that if you really believe in yourself, you
can do anything. In this story, Connie believed that a stone was a
"lucky" stone, and that when she wore it, she could do whatever she
set her mind to. But when she found out that the stone is just a
stone, she realized that she still had the power to do anything she
set her mind to. The other stories teach other life lessons that
are necessary for children to know.
After each of the adventure stories, there are Discovery Games for
kids! These are short activities that further help children learn.
Your children will enjoy these fun learning puzzles, and you will
too! Each one has something in common...they teach children.
Not only are there 6 wonderful stories included on this DVD, there
are other special features! Besides the five Discovery Games for
kids, there is a section titled "Our Time for Grownups." This
section contains "tips and activities designed to heighten the
learning experience for your child." For each episode, you'll find
discussion points, tips, and activities related to that episode.
What a wonderful addition to the stories! Parents can get ideas on
what to discuss with their child after they watch an adventure
story, then they can do an activity, and find additional tips. This
is certainly much more than just a DVD!
MyParenTime.com highly recommends this DVD -- besides containing a
wealth of information and learning for children and their parents,
the characters and backgrounds are very colorfully drawn in simple
shapes and patterns that are appealing to young children. The
simple animation doesn't overwhelm young minds. This DVD uses
delightful characters to teach lessons in fun ways. Parents are
sure to love the Connie the Cow series as much as their children
will :)!

come along in the last decade. And there's a dearth of good
cartoons that aren't just for little kids. (I hate the dumbed down
stuff, it is unwatchable)
But we're being ripped off by Warner Brothers on these DVDs.
They only hold 6 "stories" which is 3 episodes. Johnny Test ran for
3 seasons of 13 episodes, so it will take us forever to get a
complete set.
But wait, there's more. In the UK, they've already released the
complete first season, or 13 episodes (26 "stories"). This is more
than they've released in the US!!
You can't play that on a US DVD player, you'd have to have one of
those special DVD players that plays all "regions".
Those crooked corporations did the same thing to Jane and the
Dragon. They can get an entire set Down Under, but not here.
I hate big corporations when they do this. Amazon should use their
buying power to beat up these corporations until they scream
uncle.
I want a complete Johnny Test box set and I'm willing to pay for
it.

(More customer

they continue their efforts to protect Neotopia from the would-be
invaders. However, the arrival of Captain's instructor, Gunbike,
proves that this team isn't too hot on team work. On top of that,
both Bakunetsumaru and Zero are both homesick.
I found this disc to be a step down from the previous one. Whilst
the first six episodes had the complication of the various Gundams
wanting to work solo, putting them togethor in a team brings up
plenty of annoying moments. The biggest casualty is Shute. Whilst I
could stand him in the early episodes, the arrival of Gunbike sees
him spending all his time sitting safely in the sidecar, saying the
word 'Gundam' WAY too much or making smart alec comments whilst the
Gundams do all the fighting.
What is likely the 'meat' of the story this time round is a
slightly deeper look at Zero's past. We learn that the princess he
served was petrified and searching for a cure for her is his main
drive. Of course, being SD Gundam the show doesn't dig too deeply
into angst ridden drama.
After making it's arrival at the end of the last disk, the Zako
Zako Hour continues and proves to be the highlight of these three
episodes. In these short segments, three Zako Soldiers attempt to
inform the viewers on such things as why the Dark Axis keep using
Control Horns and the microscopic Bagu-Bagu. These attempts are
usually hampered by everything from the Dark Axis leaders desires
for more screentime to the Zako's own lack of intelligence.
If you bought the first 2 discs, it's likely you'll buy this one
too. There are some good moments here and there and as said, the
Zako Zako Hour is great. However, don't expect too much from this
volume.

one, it is still really great. Captain Nemo ( a blonde Adam West
type) goes on more adventures with his friends Kris and Robbie.
(There is a tad of danger now and then to keep it interesting.)
Episode 1 teaches us about tuna fish; 2 shows us a dangerous and
illegal way to fish; in 3, we see how an island can be formed; 4 is
arguably the strongest episode. They explore coral caves, learn
about the parrot fish, get trapped in a cavein, but then get
rescued by a turtle who needs to go up for air.
5 teaches us about metal that forms underneath the sea. We later
see how the food cycle can cause a silvery effect. We also meet
dolphins who work with people. In one episode we learn about life
on icebergs and how polar bears 'never learned to be afraid of
man.'
The final episode shows how a battle between whales, killer whales,
and sharks can start and end in an instant.
This is a great dvd. If you have any affection for the study of sea
life, you MUST see it!

(More customer
reviews)This DVD contains episodes 12-14 of GXP; for
full descriptions of the series, I suggest checking out the
excellent Tenchi Muyo: Another Universe (...). The quality of the
animation and character art is terrible; it's obvious that it was
turned out as quickly and cheaply as possible, especially in
episode 12. The jokes are often cheap and lame, careful comic
timing is almost nonexistant, and easy, sleazy T & A gags
abound (although real nudity is forbidden).
Still, it's fun and diverting most of the time; the characters and
backstory are what save the show. There is no attempt at more than
a few moments of seriousness, and over-the-top humor and utter
silliness just just keep on coming. Seina is still the inexplicable
object of lust of a huge number of gorgeous, powerful, and jealous
women. There is an interesting (although utterly out of character)
cameo from Ryoh-Ohki, Lady Seto's husband makes an appearance, NB
is just as perverted and sneaky as ever, Ryoko Baluta joins the
GXP, and a new cabbit appears as a central character. Make sure to
watch it with the second subtitle track running; the first track is
just a word-for-word repeat of the dub, but the second is a more
literal translation from the Japanese original. The differences are
often so huge that you occasionally have to wonder what show the
English dub writers were watching.
If they follow the pattern of the previous DVDs, the next one
should include episodes 15-17, which include Seina's visit to earth
and encounters with Tenchi and "family", which ought to be the high
point of the series (other than the way-gonzo final episode).
Watching this series has become a guilty pleasure. You know it's
just not very good, but it just pulls you in anyway.
