MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - YouTube singing sensation
Maria Aragon, who made a name
on YouTube after doing a cover of Lady Gaga's controversial song
"Born This Way," is set to appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres
Show.”
This was confirmed by her older sister, Linger, in a phone
interview with CBC News Canada.
In a story posted in
CBC News Canada’s official
website, Linger said Aragon is scheduled to tape
an episode on Monday (Tuesday in Manila).
However, Linger said she is not sure when it will be aired.
In her earlier interviews, Aragon expressed her wish to guest on
the popular American talk show.
The 10-year-old Filipino-Canadian said she also wants to showcase
her talent in the popular television program.
"Well yeah, even my sister wants to be on the Ellen show. Who
doesn't want to be on the Ellen show? So yeah, that's what I want
to do too, I want to be on Ellen show," Aragon said in her
interview with Ace Burpee of Winnipeg Radio HOT-103.
International singing sensation Charice’s 2007 guesting on
DeGeneres show catapulted her to stardom both here and abroad.
Aragon has been posting her covers of various songs on YouTube for
almost 3 years now. Aragon is now a rising star in Winnipeg after
Lady Gaga praised her cover of
"Born This Way" via Twitter.
Lady Gaga said Aragon's rendition of her song made her cry. The
award-winning international singer also referred to Aragon as the
"future."
Lady Gaga has invited Aragon to perform a duet with her in her
concert in Toronto this coming March.
Aragon, who started singing since she was a child, said she got her
talent from her Filipino father, who hails from Mandaluyong. Her
mother, on the other hand, hails from Ormoc.
Aragon, who was born in Canada, has yet to visit the Philippines.
She hopes to come here “someday.”

Lady Gaga's newest single
"Born This Way" hatched earlier this month and
has since been burning up the airwaves. Maria Aragon, the most
recent in a line of Greyson Chance-esque Youtube wunderkind cover
artists, posted a stripped down piano-based version of the Gaga
track several days ago which has already garnered the acclaim of
the singer herself. "Can't stop crying watching this," Gaga
tweeted in reaction to the video. "This is why I
make music. She is the future." Lady G. even linked to her video,
ensuring young Maria's internet-wide fame.
Coming from the lips of a mightily talented ten year old, Gaga's
lyrics take on a new resonance. Despite
performing the song at the Grammys after having
recently emerged from an
egg, lines like "I'm on the right track baby, I
was born this way," seem to demonstrate a more literal truth in the
hands of such a talented youngster.

Maria Aragon meet Ellen in Hollywood
|
AFTER a wave of fan support, the Winnipeg tween who grabbed
Lady Gaga's eye is reportedly headed to Hollywood's hottest daytime
talk show.
On Monday afternoon, a comment on daytime superstar Ellen
Degeneres' official Facebook profile appeared to confirm
10-year-old Winnipegger Maria Aragon would be appearing on the hit
talk show today.
"She'll be here on Tuesday. I can't wait to meet her!" wrote
DeGeneres or a show rep in a comment, after one fan posted the
world-famous video of Aragon performing Lady Gaga's latest single,
Born This Way.
That video became a viral hit after it was posted on Feb. 16,
nabbing nearly 10 million views by Monday night. After gossip
blogger Perez Hilton brought the video to Gaga's attention, the pop
superstar said the video brought tears to her eyes.
The next day, Gaga invited the Grade 5 Isaac Brock School Student
to sing a duet with her at an upcoming Toronto concert, triggering
an even bigger surge of media interest and a fan movement to see
Aragon perform on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Maria Aragon is about to get started on the coolest homework of her
life.
The 10-year-old YouTube sensation spoke with her idol, pop star
Lady Gaga on Friday afternoon, culminating in a request to perform
a duet at a concert next month in Toronto.
The Grade 5 student at Isaac Brock School was overcome with emotion
as she had a phone conversation with Gaga herself from the studios
of radio station Hot 103 FM.
"I didn't expect Lady Gaga to talk to me. It was totally
overwhelming," she said shortly afterwards.
The crying, it appears, was mutual.
"Not only do you have such a beautiful voice and you are so joyful
to watch, but every once in a while, whether people believe it or
not, I have a very bad day," Lady Gaga told Maria over the phone.
"I was not having such a good day and when (entertainment blogger
Perez Hilton) sent me the video of you singing
Born This
Way, I was so overjoyed that I began to cry. Maybe you're just
going to have to come on stage with me and sing that song."
Maria said the offer to sing with her idol caught her completely by
surprise.
"(Asking me to sing a duet) makes me feel very talented. It's
crazy," she said.
Maria has become an overnight sensation on YouTube with the video
of her singing
Born This Way garnering more than 2.9
million views by Friday evening.
It went viral after an enthusiastic Twitter message from Lady Gaga
to her eight million followers.
"Can't stop crying watching this," her message read. "This is why I
make music. She is the future."
Maria, who has been singing since she was three, said she has even
thought about pursuing a record deal.
"If people want to hear songs that I might write, sure. It's really
up to my family," she said.
Her sister, Linger, 22, said throughout the two-day whirlwind,
Maria remains a 10-year-old kid, still wanting to go to school, do
her homework and play with her friends.
"We have her best interests at heart. We want to make her famous
but keep her grounded and keep her humble," she said. "I'm very
proud of her. Even though she's my younger sister, I look up to
her."
Maria had planned to fly to Toronto to perform in studio on
Toronto's Virgin Radio 99.9 FM on Friday morning, but the foul
weather in Winnipeg prevented her from making it there, so they
chatted with her by phone instead.
Maria made a visit to the Hot 103 studios Thursday for a
special interview and performance with DJ Ace Burpee, who picked
her up from school in a stretch limo. When she was dropped back off
at school in the afternoon, her classmates went wild.
