JBL Venue Series Stage 6-Inch 3-Way Speaker Review

JBLVenueSeriesStage6-Inch3-WaySpeaker
Average Reviews:

I bought these speakers to complement my home theater system - my old EPI's had expired. As front speakers for home theater, where you can supplement base with a sub-woofer and voice with a center channel, these are very adequate. However, for pure music listening I would recommend going a step or two up. A primary attribute of great speakers is "presence", where the listener is aware that there is music in the room, but not aware of the speakers. With these, I am always aware of the speakers - which I believe is caused by overly bright highs that give a slightly unnatural cast to the sound. My old speakers had presence, but alas; I cannot afford the thousand bucks or so it would take to replace them with speakers of equal quality.

Polk Audio Atrium 45p 50-Watt Powered Indoor Speakers (Pair, White) Review

PolkAudioAtrium45p50-WattPoweredIndoorSpeakers(Pair,White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased these speakers for one of my clients, and they are decent speakers. However, for the some money, you can a lot better speakers, such as the Advent AV570 speakers. The Polk speakers include one powered speaker and one passive speaker. They have a decent design, but look more like outdoor speakers than indoor speakers. The sound of these speakers is very crisp, but the bass is lacking - the range is not as wide as they make it out to be.
We originally chose this pair of speakers because they were more attractive than the Advent speakers. However, they ended up being not so pretty - the picture is somewhat misleading. If this matches your home set-up/color scheme, etc., then go for it; otherwise, you can do a lot better with the money.

Polk's Atrium 45p speakers offer versatility, power, and style all in one. Each speaker's sealed, white stainless-steel enclosure houses a 4.5-inch long-throw polymer cone driver with a butyl rubber suspension for pumping out amazing bass, while the 0.75-inch soft dome tweeter--which includes a neodymium magnet--broadly distributes high frequencies to cover a large area with high-fidelity sound.
The speaker's aluminum grille boasts an open area of 55 percent for superior sound quality, which is aided by the sculpted front baffle and rounded enclosure that minimizes diffraction (sound that's reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging. In addition, a built-in bracket facilitates several mounting options and full 90-degree rotation, letting you aim the speakers to several points in the room to enjoy the best possible sound.
But perhaps the 45p speakers' most attractive feature is that they're self-powered, which allows you to create an instant sound system simply by connecting a CD player, MP3 player, or other audio source directly to the speakers via their coaxial line-level inputs. As an alternative, you can connect them to an amplifier or receiver using the set's gold-plated five-way speaker-level binding posts. Whichever method you choose, you can add Polk-quality, room-filling stereo sound quickly and conveniently almost anywhere.
The speakers, which offer a frequency response of 60 Hz to 20 kHz, measure 6.25 by 9.5 by 7.62 inches (W x H x D) each and are backed by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.

JBL Venue Series Stadium 8-Inch 3-Way Speaker Review

JBLVenueSeriesStadium8-Inch3-WaySpeaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While JBL's speaker performance hasn't been quite as awe inspiring as the products from companies like paradigm and definitive technology, they have still produced quality speakers to those that don't desire to empty their lifesavings on recreational music listening and movie watching.
Personally, I am very picky and spend several weeks reading reviews, company websites, and magazine articles before deciding on what to buy. But when I lucked out by getting the opportunity to purchase these speakers for wholesale, I couldn't resist. I was worried about not seeing reviews for the speakers on any website except JBL's own site, but I took the leap of faith none-the-less. In the end I am very pleased with my purchase.
There are a few key points that should be noted with these speakers. Bass is generally not much of a concern to someone with a dedicated sub, but for those that don't have the option of causing their own 5.0 quake, the bass presence is satisfying enough with only the extreme lows being missed. Mid-range sound is fully present and adds substantial depth to the soundstage. The treble is nicely reproduced with these speakers. Almost no directionality is heard providing a clean crisp listening experience no matter where you are located in the room.
The bad sides to these speakers are few and far between, but still present. Personally I would have liked to have seen biwiring capabilities, but that is just me being picky seeing as how the speakers still reproduce sound very well. Next, I must say that the silver grills look really nice but good luck trying to match it with anything else in the room that isn't black. The easiest way to rectify this little problem is to just take them off, the speakers look awesome without them anyway (Which is probably why every picture you see online has the grills off).
In all honesty these speakers sound a lot like the JBL Northridge Series E90's, and have a striking resemblance; the only difference being the silver colored accents. So for those of you that don't trust my review or want more opinions and knowledge on the speakers, I suggest to check out the reviews posted on the E90's. My opinion to those who are looking to get their feet wet into the bliss of owning a home theater, or those that want good quality floorstanding speakers, look no further.

I wanted Klipsch speakers since thats what my friends were using and i have to admit that they were right. I chose these particular speakers because the tweeter was movable. With my current layout i wanted to be able to mount the speakers so they are centered with my TV but also be able to adjust the direction the audio needs to travel for optimal sound clarity. Great price, great deal, i am very pleased with my purchase.

I had never heard of jamo befor I found them here, but I found out that they are owned by klipsch so I figured that the were probably a good brand and mabey klipsch was selling them cheap to gain recognition in the US so I bought these thinking that if they were no good at least they were cheap. But it turns out that they are very good speakers even compared to speakers that cost three times as much. I have done a side by side comparison with klipsch icon vf-35($499 each) and def tech bp7006($649 each). The jamo was much smoother in the high end and had far better bass and mid range responce than the klipsch.the jamo and def tech were nearly the same in mid and high end sound with the def tech having a better bass responce with there built in amp but ether way you go you will still need a separet sub for movie lfe so the built in amp on the def tech is really a wast of power and also limets placement because they need an outlet neer by. the jamos do have good bass responce for most music. I've run a 31hz signal through them and heard it good, just a little bit quieter than the 50hz tone, but for movies with really low bass you will still need a powered sub. I also compared the center channel speakers for all three of these, the included jamo, the klipsch vc-?($250) and the def tech procenter 1000($220) the jamo beat the other two hands down, both the klipsch and the def tech had a tinny or harshnes sound to them at the high end.

Studio is the product category that places special focus on functionality and a very significant price/quality correlation. These are solid loudspeakers that indicate quality. The S 606 front speaker has a 1" tweeter, two 5" midrange drivers. This ensures strong and clear vocals and instruments.. The Jamo S606 HCS 3 Studio Speaker is fully equipped for optional bi-wiring and bi-amplification and comes with spikes. A final feature to mention is the removable fabric grilles featured on all models in the S 606 HCS 3 series. Compared to other systems in this price range it offers excellent value for the money. Cadence F-17 Home Theater Front Surround Review

CadenceF-17HomeTheaterFrontSurround
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say that the speakers are not necessarilly little. I would describe them physically as tall and thin (28" tall and 6" deep). The speakers were ordered quite honestly on a whim. I was surfing the net and decided to see what was cookin' at Cadence sound. I already own two of the home subwoofers this company manufactures (both are excellent).
I log-on to the site and begin to look at the products for home theatre the company offers - very, very nice. The company offers the consumer choices. I decide to read everything - reviews, specifications, parts used in manufacture and finally - The warranty (2 years). The price...it must be a misprint I think to myself - $79.00 a pair! Now, my curiousity is peaked. I mean c'mon how good can the speakers be...$79.00? Of course, I had to order a pair. I had to hear how they sounded. Order a pair I did and...
Simply stunning - seriously - they arrived at my door double-boxed. The company shipped these jewels to me free! Ok now I carefully open the boxes and inside each box is a smartly packed loudspeaker (Cadence gives you two different speaker grills so you can match your home's decor).
Honestly, I don't know if the speakers are two-ways or three ways. There are three drivers used in each cabinet 2 6.5" Kevlar woofers and a single soft dome tweeter. The face on the speakers is a beautiful piano gloss black. The cabinets are satin black. Each speaker weighs in at 6 lbs. The speakers are built very well. The only criticism I have is the binding posts - they're cheap. Still, the speakers scream quality.
The sound: Oh, I do suppose that is important. In a word - neutral. This is not a bad thing...in fact at $79.00 for the pair - this amazes me! Listening to Mozart, Bach, Haydn is a guilty pleasure. The speakers disappear in the room. Other music sounds good too. I have not watched a movie, but my experience tells me that if music is satisfying so will watching movies.
This is a case where I feel I got more than my money's worth. I am very happy with my purchase! I am seriously considering the purchase of the center channel speaker for this series. If you enjoy music, a real value in atretching your dollars, and like the feeling of "winning" when buying something - The F17 Speakers by Cadence should be at the top of your "Must Hear" list!

Jensen JP1500 Power Station 15" 500-Watt 3-Way Bass Reflex Floor-Standing Speaker Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was recently upgrading my stereo system to include great home theater sound with Dolby Digital and DTS, as well as good-sounding loudspeakers for normal music. I originally shopped around local stores...but I was discouraged by the prices of speakers, which weren't really big or powerful, and although they had great theater sound effect, they didn't give the hard-hitting bass I wanted. In fact, when I turned the volume up too much, they really didn't sound that well. So, I dicided to look online to see what kind of speakers I could get for a limited amount of money, and I found these. (I wanted 15" woofers, and high-wattage capabilities.) I was skeptical when I saw how cheap they were-especially since those speakers I saw elsewhere were upwards of a $.... a pair. So, I got brave and bought them, and they just blew me away. I've cranked my 120-watt receiver up as loud as it would go, and these speakers have no problems handling it. You really feel the bass pound with no distortion, and the mid-range and tweeters sound terrific! When cranked up loud, I feel like I'm being knocked over by the bass. By the way, these speakers work very well for home theater, and you don't even need to buy an over-priced subwoofer either. I have a 200-watt subwoofer, but these speakers pour out even more bass than the subwoofer; plus, it's the hard-hitting, tight bass that subwoofers can't deliver. Definetely a must have, whether you listen to music quietly, or at ultra-loud volumes!
Also, I will write this because there aren't that many details given about these speakers. The dimensions of the cabinets are 32.5" X 18.5" X 11.75" H.W.D. The frequency rating is 30Hz-25kHz with 8-Ohm resistance. I'm not 100% sure of the crossover frequencies, but I believe it's around 600-700Hz for the woofer, and 3-4kHz for the tweeters. It has what looks to be banana plug jacks.

JBL Northridge E80 3-Way Dual 6-Inch Floorstanding Speaker, Single (Black Ash) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At our local BB store, we could compare the JBL speakers hooked up to the identical receiver model (older yamaha) and the same content source. These sounded better. The sound was richer, had better separation in the high end, and just wasn't muddied/or off color in the low end.
For listening to music, floor standing speakers are the way to go, much better than any of those wall mountable little speakers prevalent on home theater systems. We watch quite a few music DVDs (concerts, videos) and the sound these speakers produce is almost like being there, and sometimes better than being there live.
Now compared to Klipsch, the Klipsch sounded muddy and could not provide as much separation on high sounds. The JBLs sounded more 3-d than Klipsch - same receiver models & sound source.
Compared to Polk, the JBLs just seemed to sound more energetic, again same receiver models & sound source. It might be that the JBLs were pushing more on the high end than the Polks did. At least that was my subjective impression.
We've had these now for a few months, and are so happy we got them (part of my bday present, see review for Yamaha 5760). We had an old partially functioning 10-year old Panasonic receiver with 4-ohm Advent speakers. I loved those Advents but they can't match the sound from these speakers.
One caution:
These speakers are heavy, so you want to watch out if you have little toddlers, I would recommend using a furniture tie kit to tie them to a wall. Otherwise a toddler or pulling up baby could tip them over onto themselves and end up very hurt.

Klipsch Reference Series RF-83 - Floorstanding Speaker (each) - 250 Watt - 2-way - cherry Review

KlipschReferenceSeriesRF-83-FloorstandingSpeaker(each)-250Watt-2-way-cherry
Average Reviews:

This is a very good speaker that gives you all want. The only downside is the price is bit high. I was able to get a discontinued pair for about $1500 total with tax. I've wanted these speakers for about two years but couldn't afford them.
Of course horn instruments are exceptionally lifelike with these horn loaded speakers. They give you good bottom end but I would say you still need a subwoofer with them. All instruments and voice are life like and these are a fine addition to my 11.3 system. For those who don't know that means I've got fifteen speaker units in my home theater and I say this to let you know that the RF-83 has a dominant place among them. Klipsch has only a fair standing among audiophiles yet I think the RF-83s will compete with anything under five thousand dollars. You can take that with a grain of salt since I'm such a Klipsch lover. I know I said the price was a bit high and that's because I couldn't afford them a list price. However, I wouldn't buy anything else because I think you get a good value.
The grills have a great magnetic fastening system and the speaker wire terminals are standard for the industry and work well. The fit and finish overall is good and I can think of nothing negative to say about them. They look very impressive with the grills off because the speakers have a copper like finish and they really look sharp.
You'll find if you buy them there is a large group of devoted followers on the Klipsch forums which can be accessed by anyone by going to the Klipsch website and entering through the "backstage pass" portal and then going to "forums". There you can find anything you want to know about any Klipsch products. Anyone can become a member and post questions or information. Few speakers have anything comparable and part of that is due to the large loyal following. The closest thing I've seen is the Bang & Olufsen site but they are not primarily a speaker company.

Featuring an all-new driver layout, the RF-83 employs triple 8-inch high-output woofers with large motor structures for a solid bass foundation and greater control, output and power handling. These Cerametallic woofers with inverted copper dust caps exhibit a very high stiffness-to-mass ratio and superb damping characteristics.
Exclusive Tractrix Horns have always been the key component of this critically acclaimed series. In the RF-83, this technology has been refined to include improved throat geometry for a more genuine, lifelike sound. Behind the horn lies a professional-grade 1.25-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless power.
The RF-83's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound and three rear-firing ports to eliminate turbulence noise. Increased baffle ribbing in the lower panel and around the horn mouth dramatically improve acoustics across the sonic range. For signal purity and perfect driver integration, the crossover on the RF-83 features the finest components and Klipsch custom internal wiring. Premium binding posts ensure superior connectivity.

Oregon Scientific IB368 iBall Wireless iPod Speaker with Transmitter Dock Review

I would like to give this item 5 stars because the packaging was exquisite and carefully thought out, the item is well designed and very nice to look at, BUT, nowhere in the description that I can find does it say if you want to use this with an iPod Nano that you have to contact the manufacturer for the proper docking adaptor. And that it takes two to three weeks to receive it! This is a fifty cent piece of plastic folks. Oregon Scientific should supply their distributors with the piece and let them add it to the order instead of suprising the consumer like this. Come on! This was a gift and the excitement my daughter felt at receiving it was dampened considerably by her inability to use the thing.I give it four stars because the speaker seems to be well made and the instructions are thorough even though there is only a small tag discretely placed on the outside of the box that says you have to ask for the adaptor to make it work with the Nano. If that had been in the item description I could have requested it when I bought it and saved a week or so of waiting. As it is we have a rather expensive clock that we can't use as a speaker until Oregon Scientific fufills the adaptor request.
1/12/06. I would like to report that Oregon Scientific contacted me and we resolved all issues with this order. They were extremely helpful , gave a clear and concise explanation of the issue with the Nano adaptor and satisfied me completely. It is a pleasure to deal with a company that is so concerned with their customers. My complements to them and their customer service crew.
Now to the product. The system works flawlessly, there were no glitches or difficulty in setting it up and the sound is fabulous. It is the equal of my Bose Wave radio in my opinion. The smile on my daughter's face as she carried the ball around listening to her stored music was worth the wait. I can recommend this product with no reservations. I am upgrading my rating to 5 stars and ordering a catalog from Oregon Scientific today.

These are recommended components in the high end underground Stereophile magazine, which rates speakers up to $100,000. It takes a pretty good speaker to even make the list albeit these are class E, with class A speakers being the state of the art.
Surely one cannot expect deep bass since the bass driver is so small, but the midrange is so sweet and the high end is superb.
The imaging is supreme for a speaker so inexpensive, it raises the bar considerably for an inexpensive speaker. Perhaps this is because of the Metal Matrix diaphragm tweeter that puts the tweeter's resonance frequency out of the audible range; read no audible distortion. Impressive achievment once again for Infinity.

This is a small, lightweight unit but perfect for camping, a workshop or a bedroom. You can use any MP3 player because the sound comes through the headphone jack. It only has a groove to set your device in so it doesn't look as neat and tidy as a docking station. The speakers are also very exposed and can be fragile. I've had mine for almost a year and have had no problems. It folds down to the size of a small book so it's easy to pack or store. The sound quality is pretty good for the price so if you're just looking for a speaker dock to play you tunes then this is a pretty good buy.

Infinity Primus 2-WAY P252 Dual 5.25 Floor Speaker (each) Review

You can't go wrong with a pair of these. Especially if they are placed in a fairly large room. Don't let others tell you that you NEED a sub for these speakers to sound good. Unless you're only listening to rap, these are great for a variety of different types of music. They also work great in my home theater w/out a subwoofer. I would recommend these speakers to anyone.

Infinity Home Theater Speaker System (TSS 450) Review

I paired the TSS 450 with the new Harman/Kardon AVR230 (Which I highly reccommend, even though Amazon is not offering it yet). They provide great (and plentiful) wiring, which is atypical of $400 speakers. They come with adjustable mounting brackets, another plus that most other systems dont have. They are tiny surrounds (think soup can, though wider) and sound very crisp. I've only had them a little while, but they sound perfect listening to Lords of the Rings or playing PS2! The center channel is powerful and super-clear. This is my first surround system, so i'm shocked at how much better I can here voices during movies! The other thing I like is the Center has two-midranges and is positioned horizontally, which makes it fit much better on top of my WEGA :-)

The Infinity Total Solutions TSS-450 is a complete multichannel music and home theater loudspeaker system. With their compact and versatile design, the satellite speakers can be placed virtually anywhere - on shelves, or mounted on a wall using the included bracket. The center channel can easily be placed on top of, or on a shelf below, the television. The powered subwoofer delivers the bass impact and excitement for your favorite music and movie soundtracks.
