(More customer

aired in 1961, gradually begins to reflect the cultural changes
since its premiere in the late fifties. In an anticipation of the
Perry Mason returns series of the eighties, Perry now has an
occasional assistant, a young law student whom he once successfully
defended (just like William R. Moses' Ken Malansky). More traveling
is going on, reflecting the wider world opening to Americans with
the presidency of John F. Kennedy. Lt. Tragg is seen less and less
often, usually replaced by Wesley Lau's Lt. "Andy" Anderson.
Hamilton Burger is also seen only occasionally (fallout from
William Talman's arrest on morals charges a couple of years
earlier), and other prosecutors go up against Perry with the same
zeal and the same results. To us males who entered our teens in the
sixties, the cars are one of the obvious tipoffs to the period. One
of Perry's clients tools around in a '61 Chevy, and Paul Drake's
ride is a '61 T-Bird (presumably red, though we can only guess in
black and white). For a while, there's the ubiquitous '61 Buick
convertible, serving characters in several episodes. Some reviewers
have complained of CBS Video's decision to release the series in
half-season packages priced for a full season. This is greedy
behavior characteristic of big corporations, and no one should be
surprised. Business, with its unerring eye for profit, is the most
reliable barometer of what's popular. PM makes the grade, season
after season. My wife and I relax almost every night with yet
another episode. Though they are somewhat formulaic, there are just
enough twists to keep us fascinated. Second half coming up.

Perry Mason: Season Five,
Vol. 1
Perry Mason is an attorney who specializes in defending seemingly
indefensible cases. With the aid of his secretary Della Street and
investigator Paul Drake, he often finds that by digging deeply into
the facts, startling facts can be revealed. Often relying on his
outstanding courtroom skills, he often tricks or traps people into
unwittingly admitting their guilt.

(More customer

shows, a European
animation company (Dutch, I think) made some of the worst
ever attempts at Tom & Jerry ever seen. They had none of
the atmosphere or spirit of the classics. They were badly
drawn, had terrible sound effects and little of the
memorable big-band orchestra music which Tom & Jerry was
well-known for...
Why do I mention this?
Well, I'll tell you...
It's because even those awful, late Tom & Jerry episodes
were a whole lot better than this absolutely terrible movie.
"Tom & Jerry - The Movie" is an insult to the fans and
almost
tarnishes the memory of the greatest cartoon characters of
all-time.
Stick to the originals!!!

(More customer
reviews)I'm disappointed to see many negative reviews of
the 3rd Season. I got mine from Amazon last week and have already
watched the whole season and it was great! I was nervous going in
because I had heard from various people that season three wasn't as
good, but after I got watching I was not at all sure what the fuss
was about, the show is pushing itself and growing in new directions
like it needs to if it's going to survive. The show challenges you
to think about "drugs," what's right and wrong, and examines the
inter-workings of suburbia with such cleverness that I am always
pleasantly surprised.
Nancy Botwin is the perfect character, you love her, but sometimes
want to slap her. Parker is an amazing actress and makes this show
work from beginning to end. I also love her youngest Shane, he's
excellent this season and glad to see him getting more and more
airtime. This show is both funny and heartbreaking and blows most
shows on TV right now out of the water.
I'm really excited to see how season 4 plays out. I think it's a
great sign that they are breaking out of the "little boxes."
Don't listen to the negative reviews. If you liked season 1 and 2
you will love season 3!

(More customer
reviews)Some of the classics include The Chinese Woman,
whose advice is taken by Mrs. Costanza until she learns the woman
is NOT Chinese. The Couch, when George is too lazy to read a book
(Breakfast at Tiffany's) and so goes to a stranger's house to watch
the movie.....this is one of my personal favorites of the show. The
Fusilli Jerry is uproarious......"'It was a million to one shot,
doc, million to one." The Jimmy is another classic, with Kramer
getting dental work and being mistaken for.....well, if you watch
Seinfeld, you know;-)
Some other episodes:
The Chaperone- Kramer tries to help Miss Rhode Island prepare for a
pageant, while at the same time Jerry is dating her. Her birds are
killed in her hotel room which she was going to use for her talent
act, and instead she must resort to singing, which she does not do
very well(an understatement). George suggests that the New York
Yankees switch to all cotton uniforms and the uniforms shrink
(George=shrinkage again!). Elaine gets a new job and we meet Mr.
Pitt.
The Mango- Kramer gets banned from his favorite produce store and
so he has Jerry get the produce for him. Jerry learns that Elaine
had faked her orgasms and tries to talk Elaine into giving him one
time to redeem himself.
The Stall- In a bathroom stall Elaine discovers that she has no
toilet paper so she asks the woman in the next stall for a
piece(Can you spare a square?). The woman next to her
refuses.....only later does she learn that this woman is actually
Jerry's girlfriend.
The Scofflaw- Newman is helped by Cramer inadvertently to escape
from a cop who has caught the "white whale", a scofflaw the cop has
been trying to catch for years for illegal parking.
The Chinese Woman- After lines are crossed, Mrs. Costanza receives
advice from Jerry's girlfriend late one night while talking on the
phone, and because of it, does not want a divorce. After she learns
the woman who gave he the advice is NOT Chinese but is using a
shortened name which sounds Chinese, she says 'this changes
everything!' Kramer's sperm count is low and he must go from briefs
to boxers but he does not want to as his "boys need a house." Many
memorable lines from this one.
The Face Painter- Elaine dates David Putty, who paints his face in
team colors for hockey games.....the colors for the devils. The
face painting is embarassing to Elaine, Jerry, and offends a priest
in a taxi. Kramer gets into a fight with a monkey at the zoo when
the monkey throws a bannana peel at him and then he throws it back.
The monkey then goes into a deep depression(he stops his autoerotic
functioning) and the zoo blames Kramer.
The Couch- George is too lazy to read a book (Breakfast at
Tiffany's) for his book club and so goes to a stranger's house to
watch the movie after he peers over the counter at the video rental
store to see who has the movie.....once there, we see the truly
obnoxious side of George Costanza. Grape juice on the couch......I
mean, can he be any more obnoxious? This is one of my personal
favorites for both the season and the show.
Best quotes:
"What's so great about a mom and pop store? Let me tell you
something, if my mom and pop ran a store I wouldn't shop there." -
George, in "The Mom and Pop Store"
"Have you ever met a proctologist? They usually have a very good
sense of humor. You meet a proctologist at a party, don't walk
away. Plant yourself there because you will hear the funniest
stories you've ever heard. See, no one wants to admit to them that
they stuck something up there. Never. It's always an accident.
Every proctologist story ends in the same way... 'It was a million
to one shot, doc, million to one.' "

(More customer
reviews)CSI Season 7 was an absolute masterpiece. The
plots were tight. The subplots even tighter (especially the dynamic
of Greg killing a young man in self defense, the emergence of
Hodges as an unsung hero, the addition of the ultra-talented Liz
Vassey to the cast, the chemistry between Catherine/Keppler and
Grissom/Sara.) The miniature killer theme is right up the alley
with Hitchcock's finest, and the acting performances put this CSI
above all other CSI and Law & Order shows. Every single episode
during season seven was done with the trademark of Bruckheimer and
Zuiker's unyielding excellence and class. It was impossible to take
your eyes off of the screen, whether you are wondering what the
miniature killer will do next, or watch Marg Helgenberger give her
best career performance in the episode "Leaving Las Vegas," or the
lab techs come within an eyelash of solving the riddle of the
miniature killer in "Lab Rats." For fans of this show, thinking
back through the episodes, it is just amazing places season seven
took us, and the cliffhanger that will lead us all into season 8
serves as only a small slice of the tasty treats that this show is
capable of offering. After all these episodes, it never gets stale
or contrived. Every now and then, a show comes along that defines a
generation and a genre, much like Seinfeld did for sitcoms during
its run, and Star Trek and Twilight Zone did nearly half a century
ago for sci-fi/horror. This show is one for the ages. Pick up this
DVD. Push play, and let this cast take you for one unforgettable
ride!

pokemon movies. The blend of CGI and animation is better than it's

film also features more types of pokemon than anyother movie before
it to help celebrate the 10 year anniversary. This is a must see

that price it's definitely worth it. True, the first one is the
best (I prefer the original over the "Version You've Never Seen",
but they're still both very good), but the third one isn't that bad
(in fact, I think it's pretty good) And neither version of the
prequel is good, but it is sort of neat to have two VERY different
versions of the same film, and in this context, for comparing the
power of editing and the how the perspective of a director can
affect a movie, these discs are interesting. True, the second one
has no merit, but what can you do? But I won't complain. It's good
for a laugh.
Just so people know, this set does contain all the extras the other

sensitive, heartwarming and beautiful films ever made. Based on a
shojo manga by Aoi Hiiragi, Written and produced by Hayao Miyazaki
and directed by Yoshifumi Kondo, whisper of the heart is a tale of
self discovery and coming of age of a high school girl Shizuku who
is not sure what she wants in life. A series of dramatic events
bring her closer to a guy Seiji from her own school. Together they
embark on a journey which will help them find their inner
potentials, realize their dreams and also love for each other. Also
featured in the movie is an old man who runs an antique shop
stocked with amazing treasures, including a magnificient porcelain
figurine "the baron" (also featured in "The cat returns). Both of
these characters play an important role in the film. Though "The
cat returns" is kind of follow up to "whisper" yet for some reason
it was released on dvd before "whisper".
Rarely is a film as honest and realistic as whisper of the heart
and that's what makes it amazingly special, charming and
successful. Within its thin plot and realistic settings, whisper
has its magic moments which are downright uplifting and strike a
chord somewhere deep inside. The film itself is a breath of fresh
air.
Whisper of the heart, though slow in pace, draws you in from the
very beginning and refuses to let you go. Its a heartwarming tale
which makes you feel nostalgic and helps you relive the
adolescence. Except for the Shizuku's dreamy fantasy sequence, the
film relies heavily on dialogues and simple and real situations.
The locales and the backgrounds shown in the film are as beautiful
and breathtaking as in any other ghibli film. Open spaces,
beautiful countryside, deep blue sky with summer clouds, a bicycle
ride atop the hill, there are numerous things and moments in the
film that set the mood just right, leaving the viewer spellbound
and satisfied. After a while you forget completely that you are
watching an animated film. Music plays an important role in the
film and is soft and relaxing though we do get lots of those silent
moments too for which ghibli films are famous. Also featured in the
film is John Denver's song "country roads" which makes the perfect
backdrop for the film. Not to mention here, the royalty disputes
which arised later, making it difficult for the movie to see an
American release.
Be it character development, animation or background art of the
film, attention to details is simply stunning. The incredibly
detailed backgrounds of the fantasy sequences were done by Naohisa
Inoue who was an established artist and a long time Miyazaki fan.
Impressed by his fantasy work, Miyazaki himself invited him to work
on the film. Whisper of the heart dvd released by Buena Vista in
Japan includes a special documentary showcasing the dreamy artwork
of the film.
Director Yoshifumi Kondo had worked on many ghibli films such as
Kiki's delivery service, Grave of the fireflies and Pom poko etc,
as an animator. Hayao Miyazaki, who was looking for new breed of
directors for ghibli, recognised Kondo's talent in no time and gave
him a chance to direct this movie. Unfortunately, whisper of the
heart remains to be the first and the only film directed by
Yoshifumi Kondo. Just after the release of whisper, Kondo succumbed
to aneurysm. It is evident from whisper of the heart how immensely
talented and sensitive director Kondo was.
Films like whisper of the heart are very rare and come once in a
lifetime. Watching a film like this is an experience to behold and
cherish forever.

(More customer

great episodes. A lot of the reviewers rated this 1 star for the
price and not the actual content of the dvd. Nip/Tuck is still as
good as ever and it shows it has some of the best music around in
the 5.2 opener. I've never seen a more perfect song to fit a scene
than the opener of 5.2. Over all these last 8 episodes are 10/10.
Nip/Tuck continues to shock and awe you.

David Blaine's act on his TV specials that had limited runs. Not
too worry; "David Blaine: Fearless" gathers them all up, and throws
them all onto one DVD, and then some. You can generally find this
DVD priced the same as "discount" DVDs, so you won't be paying the
normal $20 plus that DVDs command.
Blaine's amazing tricks are super-cool but wouldn't have held their
own displayed merely in a Vegas showroom; it's the who and where
that makes this DVD special. Blaine often performs his tricks up
close and with plenty of audience participation, to an extremely
diverse set of people. He bites a quarter in half and spits it back
to make it whole in front of some LA street thugs. He performs his
famous levitation at the Dallas Cowboys training camp, sending
Deion Sanders running, his wits barely intact. He pulls various
"pick a card" tricks on a pair of grandmothers sitting on a bench,
despite their initial declaration that they're not into magic
tricks. A bunch of soccer girls at a rest stop scream with glee
when makes a name appear out of ash.
Blaine even ventures into a remote South American jungle, where an
tribe that has been mostly isolated from civilization serves as the
challenge; the only way he can communicate with them is magic, but
will "pick a card" mean anything to them or impress a culture with
no concept of quarters, Aces or Spades? Blaine adapts and amazes
them by squeezing drinkable amounts of water from random places or
making a ball multiply within a closed fist. He does this again
with other journeys to foreign areas.
Many of Blaine's tricks are true head-scratchers that will leave
even the most cynical viewer amused. I've already described a
significant amount of his simpler tricks, so I'll leave the rest
for the DVD to show, including an act that is more endurance than
magic: fighting hypothermia and mental breakdowns as he remains
encased in an ice prison on a busy sidewalk for a couple of
days.
He has a different sort of charisma; he's so laid back but you
still get the sense that he truly treats magic as an art, not as an
attempt to hoodwink you; but at the same time he isn't so overly
serious that you can associate with him.
This is a great DVD to have; magic is an all-genre, all-gender
thing. You can pop "Fearless" in anytime at any setting, be it a
small gathering, a big party, or in your portable DVD player while
waiting for your flight at the airport. There's very little filler
material, which is a good thing; they've packed in as much material
as they can.
A must-buy for anyone.

(More customer

Michael Cera (Arrested Development) have one last shot at
popularity in the very funny coming-of-age comedy "Superbad". Seth
(Hill) and Evan (Cera) are lifelong best friends who really want to
lose their virginity before heading to college. When they are
invited to the year's biggest party, the boys use their friend
Fogell's (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) new fake I.D. to score some
alcohol for the party but their plan soon turns to a madcap night
of unpredictable and outrageous situations. "Superbad" is an
uproariously funny teen comedy from the creators of "The
40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up". The raunchy teen comedy
delivers a well paced storyline, some side-splitting moments and
memorable comic performances. Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) and Bill
Hader (SNL) are hilarious as two incompetent police officers.
"Superbad" received overwhelming positive reviews from US critics
and became one of the year's highest grossing comedies with over
$130 million nationwide.
If you've enjoyed "Superbad" in theaters, then I strongly recommend
checking out "Superbad" Unrated Edition. The raunchy teen comedy is
presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen format with more unrated
footage that wasn't included in its theatrical release. The picture
quality is surprisingly good with no obvious flaws. The 5.1 Dolby
Digital sound is clear and well balanced. Among supplemental
material, the DVD includes 8 minutes of deleted scenes, trailers, a
short gag reel, "Cop Car Confessions" and "The Making of Superbad"
featurettes, an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming comedy
"Pineapple Express" and an audio commentary with director Greg
Mottola, production crew and cast members. Overall, "Superbad"
Unrated Edition scores a "B+".

nothing more than to lose their virginity before they head off to

party that night. With the help of their friend Fogell, a.k.a.
McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and his fake I.D., the three of
them go on a hilarious chase for that elusive booze, dodging
incompetent cops (Knocked Up's Seth Rogen and "Saturday Night

(More customer
reviews)Repo Man is completely unclassifiable. Funny,
dark, biting, thrilling, confusing, action, adventure, it's all
there. Emilio Estevez plays Otto, a "white suburban punk" living in
LA's sprawl, with a nowhere job that he loses in the film's second
scene. When his hippie parents admit they sent his college fund to
a TV preacher (We're sending Bibles to El Salvador!), Otto meets
Bud (Harry Dean Stanton), a cocaine-driven Repo Man who needs an
extra driver. Otto joins the firm and soon learns the Repo Code;
Bud's version (You see, a Repo Man gets himself INTO tense
situations), and the other regulars at Helping Hand Auto share
their philosophies too. Light finds Bud's view tedious but is
willing to handle shoot-outs when he's not reading parodies of
Scientology (Diuretix), Miller seems completely neuron-fried (The
more you drive, the less intelligent you are), and Oly is along to
make a four-pack. (Did you notice the four experienced Repo Men are
named after beers?) Let's go get a drink, kid!
Multiple plot strands at first seem unrelated, but bind together
closer and tighter as the film moves along. Otto and the other Repo
Men are on the lookout for a 1964 Chevy Malibu, with a $25,000
bounty. So are some creepy FBI agents, who stalk and kidnap Otto.
And so are Helping Hand's arch-rivals, who careen into the plot
whenever things are getting dull. The car's driven by a nuclear
physicist in from Los Alamos, who warned a CHP officer not to look
in the trunk (with deadly results). Otto's punk friends find the
car while breaking into a pharmaceutical factory, but they're too
stupid to keep it. (These three are some of the dumbest criminals
ever shown in film, including Kevin Kline's Otto in _A Fish Called
Wanda_) Otto finds love, after a fashion, but since this is
Reaganesque LA, even his girlfriend has her own motives. ("Otto!
What about our relationship?" Otto's reply is a brilliant retort to
Cary Grant's last line in Gone with the Wind.)
The film abounds with hilarious throw-away lines, signs, and
labels. Several scenes take place in food stores, and all the food
is generically labeled. Multiple viewings are required to catch
them all; be sure to read all the signs in the windows. Even the TV
preacher shows up on several television sets. Repo Man takes its
structure from Miller's bizarre rant about the cosmic latticework
of interconnectedness, because everything is interconnected, and
Miller turns out to be right about all of it by the end. "And
flying saucers are... You got it. Time Machines."
Top it off with a TERRIFIC sound track by Iggy Pop, Black Flag, The
Circle Jerks, and a host of others from the punk scene and this is
one of the best movies ever made.

(More customer
reviews)Watching Saint Nicholas, one can only note how
much better it is than most of the recent holiday specials, which
try to have a moral to the story, but end up flat and heavy-handed.
VeggieTales, on the other hand, go far beyond morals to express big
ideas. The recent VeggieTales movie, The Pirates Who Don't Do
Anything Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie
(Widescreen), was the sort of superior entertainment that, while it
enthralls kids, also engages adults. It's hard to believe this
featurette is only 45 minutes, because it runs the gamut from light
laughs to moving pathos to profound finale, the same arc as a
feature film. Adults who happen to walk by while it's on TV will
probably find themselves drawn in. Kids will see something new
every time.
Bob the tomato tells the true story of St. Nicholas, while Larry
the cuke constantly interrupts with more conventional ideas of
Santa Claus. The real saint threw bags of money down the chimneys
of poor women to save them from being forced into brothels. In this
kid-friendly version, young Nick saves the poor from going to jail.
Either way, he becomes the patron saint of those who fight human
trafficking. The DVD includes ways for kids and families to help a
long-established charity called Samaritan's Purse, and a catchy
video by Matthew West and Amy Grant, "Give This Christmas
Away."
There's an intense scene when the young Nick's parents die, which
might be disturbing for very young kids, like similar scenes in
Disney films like Bambi. The film is filled with witty asides and
references to holiday trivia and packed with well-performed,
singable songs. There's even a pirate who makes an appearance from
the recent feature film. Bonus features include "Sing Along with
Larry", an art gallery, and "Give This Christmas Away" music video.
The previews include trailers for current VeggieTales, as well as
bits on Cure International, which provides medical help for kids in
need, and MOPS, a support group for Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers.
VeggieTales are inspiring on many levels: CGI animation that is
second to none, garden-fresh story lines, sparkling wit to
laugh-out-loud humor, a rough ride to the happy ending denouement,
and they make you feel better, not worse. But this DVD, linking, as
it does, an entertaining story to tangible ways to help, may be the
biggest idea yet for bringing joy to the world.
