AT&T 5800 Accessory Handset for 5800 Series Phones Review

I've been a cordless phone fan since the days of sub-50 mhz frequencies, and I've been using 2.4 Ghz phones around the house now for more than 2 years. They were really only a bit clearer than the 900 mhz phones they replaced, and their range was about the same. However, this high frequency seems to find itself isolated enough from household interference (lights, cell phones, etc.) to achieve real quiet! I would say the quality of the connection is almost identical to that of a corded phone.
The 5830 setup was simple: Plug it in to the phone line and power plug (the fairly small transformer is nice too), enter the base ID # from the sticker under the phone, and you're ready to use the phone.
The menus are just okay; they may be a bit less than perfect but they're usable without instructions. Anyway, from the menu, you may (but do not have to) select ring style, ring volume, vibrate or no, and enter the time digitally.
I've added 2 of these 5800 extensions and these are set up just as the base is, but the number you register on each handset is that of the base unit. Range and intercom on the handsets are great, and the voice quality again is comparable to corded phones, though occasionally we get a hollow echo on a handset.
In both cases, the called ID display is very nicely done. It is lit in a very attractive and functional blue with a large enough display to read both the name and number without (my) glasses.
Lastly, the message waiting light (I use the phone company's voice mail svc) is easy to see from across the room, it too a cool neon blue that illuminates an "O" around the ear piece. The effect is quite techno-hip, as well as being highly functional.
In short, the 5800 series is a very nice execution of a very good new technology.

The AT&T 5800 is an expansion handset for use with AT&T 5.8 GHz models 5830 and 5840. You can add up to five 5800 handsets to your base station (not included) for a total operating capability of six handsets.
The expansion handset's LCD provides caller ID/call waiting information (subscription required). Enhanced audio technology derives from advances in acoustic design that have improved the frequency response relative to conventional cordless phones. The Sound Select feature offers four different audio settings: bass, mid, treble, and natural.
The handset receiver lights up with incoming calls or can be set to vibrate. It stores 50 names and numbers and works with your caller ID service to remember the last 50 callers. A spare-battery charging system enables the telephone to work even in a power outage. Choose from eight ringer melodies. Other features include a 50-name-and-number caller ID history, a lighted display, and a visual message-waiting indicator.
What's in the Box Handset, charger/base, AC power supply and cord, model 2401 rechargeable battery, instructions, warranty information
Note: This handset is not a stand-alone phone; it requires an AT&T 5830 or 5840 base unit, sold separately.

AudioVox XM XSN1V1 Snap Radio Review

This is installed in two steps:
1) Install the antenna. This is the "hard" part. You can either put the antenna outside of the car and route inside or in the windshield/ back window. I have a four door and put the antenna on the back shelf behind the back passenger headrest and then just routed the wire. Recption has been A+ and no wires hanging out.
2) Install the unit -- This took me about 10 seconds to do. Just plug into the cigarette Lighter(2 seconds) and tune the FM Radio(8 seconds) to the right channelSound is excellent. I think SiriusXM figured out how to make the car electrical system a radio transmitter so the signal is super strong for my car radio to pick up on.So, no bleed over, no buzzing, no interference.
Unless you're looking for alot of bells and whistles.. this is as good as it gets and its CHEAP!!!!

There IS a reason to buy RETAIL disks, not OEM disks, from Amazon, and that is the shipment's packing.
Received this disk in a "standard" box (those just fine for BOOKS), with some brown paper wadded in along the SIDES of the disk's own box. No bubble wrap, no plastic air bubbles, just some paper that did NOT prevent the Western Digital box from moving around, as I noticed when I picked up the box from the porch. Come on, Amazon, these are NOT books, dvd's, or hand tools... At least you could put enough packing in so the object does not move, let alone putting packing in above and below to REALLY cushion the hardware.
I'll note that the Amazon box was crushed in on 1 end a good inch, no doubt from having something dropped on it. UPS is not exactly known for its gentle handling of packages... Amazon should be aware of that and act accordingly.
If this had been an OEM disk, I would have returned it immediately, not even bothering to format. With the retail version, I'll format and run a chkdsk.
But in continues to amaze me why Amazon so carelessly ships computer hardware with such poor packing. Makes me want to look ELSEWHERE for computer products.
Evening's UPDATE: Call the coroner - this drive is DOA. Plugged it in, powered it up, can hear it come up to speed, then click click - it's the head's death rattle; Window's disk manager waiting in vain for a disk that will never appear. Shame. UPS/Amazon has murdered another one... The only "good" news is, I won't have to wait for chkdsk's run...
Note: this is the RETAIL version - i.e., comes in its own box, not an OEM (static bag only). If Amazon's packaging can't protect a retail box, think how an OEM would suffer...

First thing i noticed about this camera is its heft. By that I mean it feels solid, like when you slam the door on a German car. I received this camera in the early evening, and have had to work every day since, so I have yet to take it outside the house, and in pleasant weather. What I like about it so far, is the art filters, and the ease of auto operation. My photog skills are high amateur at best, so I have a lot to get into.

The Olympus PEN E-PL1 Digital Camera is a dream come true for many photographers with 12 megapixels and technology normally found in much larger cameras and High Definition (HD) camcorders. It features a PEN large-size image sensor that is 8 times larger than the ones in average point & shoot cameras. This sensor, combined with the TruePic V Image Processor, delivers excellent dynamic range, accurate color and reduced noise, all the way up to ISO 3200. With state-of-the art noise reduction technology and 3 in-body image stabilization modes, users will realize clear images with all compatible lenses under most lighting conditions. The E-PL1's iAuto mode automatically identifies the scene you're shooting (portrait, landscape, night portrait, macro, or sport) and adjusts the settings to optimize results. While in iAuto you can engage Live Guide control which lets you compose your picture, manipulate the image with various in-camera effects like softening backgrounds, adjusting colors and brightness before taking the photo. Adding to the dream, recording HD movies (720p) with the E-PL1 is simple thanks to an easy-to-reach record button on the back of the camera body. You can toggle back and forth between capturing stills and video which opens endless shooting possibilities, for example you can shoot a portrait of a child and switch to video to capture the moment when he or she is playing with the dog that interrupted your shooting session. This camera has 19 automa

USA SPEC PA11- FORD1 - iPod in-vehicle interface adapter Review

USASPECPA11-FORD1-iPodin-vehicleinterfaceadapter

My bride wanted an iPod in her 2001 Ford Taurus Wagon for Christmas.
At first I tried the Belkin TuneBase FM with ClearScan thinking that this would be an easy solution but quickly found that the cigar lighter was not very stable and since the antenna was in the rear, the reception was awful. Granted the TuneBase is a $90 purchase at target and the kids working returns were very empathetic to my having tried it and suggested the hardwired option.
The PA11-FORD1 got good reviews and the best price is here at Amazon. I had to purchase the extension cable from Crutchfield (a great resource for DIYer's) since the stereo receiver unit is mounted behind the spare tire on this vehicle. The wiring harness adapter has some heat shrink that has to be removed to get both connectors on the receiver. the extension cable can be run following the factory cable bundle along the drivers side floor board but the rear seatbelt bolt has to be removed with a large torx wrench to move the panel out. Once routed to the dash, the din tools are a must to remove the radio panel and mount the unit behind the dash.
I paired it with a Bracketron bezel mount that requires drilling into the metal frame around the radio and it's rock solid.
The PA11-FORD1 works in place of the CD changer option and sounds great.
I saved some bucks over having it professionally installed but if you are not so inclined I would suggest paying to have it done. Cheers!

The PA11 series iPod interfaces provide direct connection for an iPod plus an optional audio source such as satellite radio, DVD, or video game system. Both the iPod and the additional audio source can be selected from the factory radioâ??s front panel. The interface adapter connects the iPod to your factory radio as if it were a CD changer, allowing direct selection of iPod playlists through the radioâ??s preset (or disc) buttons and is compatible with iPod models featuring the dock connector, including the iPod nano and 5G iPod video. There are two operating modes available for the interface, Playlist Mode and Direct Mode. Playlist Mode uses the controls on the factory radio to provide basic navigation functions including song up/down, playlist up/down, repeat, shuffle, scan, and FF/REW functions. Direct Mode uses the iPod's click wheel to navigate through the iPod's menus and select songs, artists, playlists, etc. and the radio buttons are used only for volume, bass and treble. Both modes still charge the iPod while connected, and stops one hour after the iPod is paused to prevent over-charging. Note: Display of artist and song title information, track search by artist, song title, album or genre are NOT supported. Only the Playlist and track numbers are displayed. Nikon Coolpix S3000 12.0MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Green) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was initially hesitant to buy this camera since there were ZERO reviews to be found, either here at Amazon, or elsewhere on the internet. But, since I've owned two previous Nikon Coolpix cameras (an old 4 MP camera, and a really old 2 MP camera) and both were great, I wasn't too worried. And I was right to buy it: it is working great and taking great photos, after several days of playing around with it.
First of all, it is very user-friendly. The menus and controls are completely intuitive, and make sense even if you have not cracked open the manual. ("cracked open" being a bit of a misnomer, since the manual is electronic only; the paper manual that comes with it is just a "quick start guide")
Second of all, it is a gorgeous piece of machinery; cute and cuddly and shiny and impressive. I'm afraid my girlfriend is going to try to steal it, it is so cute. I may have to buy her one to preemptively stop that from happening.
But, most of all, it takes great pictures. I walked all over town the first day, putting it through its paces, and scrutinized the photos on my computer when I got back home. If I was going to have to return it, I wanted to do so quickly, but I don't need to. The photos are great.
It is a point-and-shoot, which means that you don't have direct control over shutter speed, aperture, etc. But, you do have a dozen or so "scene modes" including Beach, Museum, Sunset, Panorama, Action, etc. These are very handy. I haven't tried them all yet, but they seem to be well designed.
The second day, I put the camera through its paces inside the house. No problems; it takes great indoor shots, providing excellent exposures both with natural light and with the flash. The wide-angle 4.9 mm lens (equivalent angle of view to a 27 mm lens in a 35mm format camera) was especially nice: you can stand in a corner of a room, and get the entire room into the photo! Nothing left out. That is pretty unusual in an inexpensive fixed-lens camera.
My third day test was to take the camera to the beach on a bright, contrasty day. It performed admirably, maintaining both shadow and highlight details, and rendering the deep blues of the sky and water, as well as the bright sand, equally well. This one's a keeper, folks!
Another nice plus: there is a "16x9" mode available in the "shooting mode" options. This doesn't quite use all 4000x3000 pixels; it only uses 3968x2232 of them. But the images are perfect "HD" format, and completely fill up a typical wide-screen monitor without any stretching. Somehow, they look all the more impressive on a computer screen than the typical 4x3 ratio.
Final tidbit: I bought the camera from Amazon, which was $10 cheaper than the local big-box store, had no sales tax, AND allowed me a 30 day return period with no restocking fee (which would have been 14 days AND a restocking fee at the local store; they need to get a clue).
Anyway, as an overall impression, five stars easily for the Nikon Coolpix S3000........JC

Harman Kardon DP 1US Drive and Play In-Vehicle Interface and Controller Review

HarmanKardonDP1USDriveandPlayIn-VehicleInterfaceandController
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Don't know what the person below is talking about --- this unit is meant to be wired directly into your factory or aftermarket head unit via RCA plugs --- NOT FM modulation! That being said, the unit can also be wired via the CD changer port located on the back of most head units, or via FM modulation (wired or wireless). However, the best sound quality comes from either the RCA or CD changer interfaces. FM modulation (wired) will give reasonable sound quality if you live in suburbia or rural areas --- if you're an urban dweller, however, you may be subject to a little or lots of static. So, if you're willing to shell out the money for this unit, then be willing to fork over a bit more to ensure you have the BEST connection interface.
Aside from all that, installation of this is a breeze. Even if you've never installed anything in your car before -- or have no xp with car stereos, you WILL be able to handle this yourself. Of course, be prepared to spend a day investigating the nether regions of your car's dash/console if you want all the cords/wires to be hidden.
Overall, this is the best ipod integration solution on the market if you want to have full functionality. Those other solutions -- like icelink, iCruze, etc. limit how you can browse your songs, albums, artists, etc. Most even force you to make playlists for browsing. The only real alternatives to the Harmon Kardon, in my opinion, are some of the new CD decks w/ ipod adapters that offer nearly full functionality (Alpine, Pioneer make some good ones....though this route will cost you over $200)
One last thing, if you do opt to have this professionally installed, make sure whoever is doing it has some xp with ipod/car integration. Some "pros" at both Circuit City and Best Buy had absolutely no clue that this could use the CD changer port on my Scion tC factory head unit and tried to tell me that my only option was either a new CD deck that was compatible or to use FM modulation --- which really would have decreased the sound quality.

This speaker kicks ass, I own two of them. The only thing is I wish it had a soft case you could put it in because the outside gets scuffed and smudged extremely easily and you can't get the marks off. These things can take a pretty good beating. Battery life is great to and the options for wireless/wired ipod and battery/acdc adapter use is just awesome. Totally loud and great bass and knocks the socks off of any competitive product. Actually, I take that back, this product doesn't HAVE a competitive product because nothing comes close to being as versatile and great-sounding.

The speakerset is very convenient to carry around but don't expect big sound out of the package. I bought it because the speakers on my laptop don't seem to work.
Pros:
- Kinamx product can be powered by the USB
- Compact and easy to carry around
- Sound is fine in the midrange.
- Construction seems sturdy
- Very inexpensive
Cons:
- Included wire for connecting is very short. It is good enough for a mp3 player but needs maneuvering for a laptop
- Performance with some bass is mediocre. The speaker start vibrating a bit. I would have preferred to reduce the bass tones via a filter rather than attempting to play them badly
- Need to buy a power adapter to be able to play mp3 player

Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone Review

SonyMDR7506ProfessionalLargeDiaphragmHeadphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I run a digital arts studio and teach digital arts, and have tried more than a dozen different headphones in the $15 to $250 price range. Again and again, I go back to using the MDR-7506 for all applications from digital video shooting and editing to music recording and studio mastering. Most of the pros I know also use the MDR-7506 when they have a choice--and buy them for use at home too.
What makes these the best? First and foremost, excellent reproduction from bass into the high end, with unrivalled "punch" and clarity. They are much louder at a given input volume than most headphones, which is important if your are recording in the field and need to hear the headphone monitoring above the ambient sound and the live sound around you. They are comfortable, instantly adjust to different head sizes without any fussing, sturdy and easily repairable, and stowe quickly and easily in the included soft drawstring bag.
I do keep a couple of pairs of high-end ($300+) headphones to check as references when mastering music, but honestly I seldom find anything with them that isn't already clear with the 7506es.
The only problem I can report is that, even though they invariably outlast other headphones in terms of wear-and-tear, they do get STOLEN more often by my students. Once you get used to the 7506, its hard to go back to using any other headphones that cost less that twice their price.
I still dream of someday discovering a comparable headphone set for half or a quarter the price of the MDR7506. Every year, I buy a few $25 or $50 models just out of hope. So far, however, nothing out there qualifies as "acceptable" to me--including the many competing $99 headphone models from other companies and even from Sony.
Bottom line: Don't hesitate. You absolutely cannot go wrong with the MDR7506. This is the headphone of choice, the industry standard. The only reason they're so cheap is MARKET VOLUME--Sony sells a lot of these to audio and video pros!!

Sennheiser PC161 Binaural Headset with Microphone & XL Ear Caps Review

I am a hard-core gamer. I have owned at least 7 different brands and styles of gaming headphones in search of one that would not wear out in a few months. I have paid as little as $15 and as much as $80 for different headsets.
Look no further for the headset of your dreams. I spend hours gaming and this headset rests very comfortably on the head. The sound quality and microphone are second to none. This headset, while a little more expensive than some is hands-down the best gaming headset on the market. It is worth every penny. I own two. one for my PC at home, and one for the laptop at the office (for working purposes only..of course. ;-) )

I've owned a pair of these for years. They are hooked-up to a sub woofer, and they sound better than the $1000. speakers that are being sold today. You will not be sorry you bought them.

Shure KSM32 Embossed Single-Diaphragm Microphone, Champagne Review

ShureKSM32EmbossedSingle-DiaphragmMicrophone,Champagne
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The KSM32 is an outstanding studio mic - probably the cleanest, warmest sounding condenser priced under a $1000.00 This is a "best choice" for drum overheads... using just one of these will produce a superior kit sound than using a matched pair of just about anything else. Add a SM57 right alongside the snare head and a BETA58A directly in front of the kick and you have a "Shure" bet for a great drum kit recording with three mics. The KSM32 is preferred by many recording engineers over the top of the line (and most expensive) KSM44 - which can be sound little "brittle" or "bright" for some users. These mics are terrific on piano, wind instruments, guitar cabinets and all manner of percussion. I've had no experience with them on strings, but I'm confident they would capture a violin or cello with honest clarity and warmth.
Shure condenser mics are built like tanks and the strength of the grill to resist dings is legendary. The fit and finish is world class. These guys even sound good through the inexpensive mic-pre's installed on home multi-track units, like Korg, Zoom, etc.
If you aren't in a position to shell out several thousand for a Neumann U-87, then get hold of a Shure KSM/32 (or two) and be ready for some amazingly good recordings.

Panasonic DMP-BD35K 1080p Blu-ray Player Review

PanasonicDMP-BD35K1080pBlu-rayPlayer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I take my home theater hobby pretty seriously, that's why when it came time to invest in a Blu-Ray player (finally the wait is over!!!), I did a ridiculously great amount of research. I was willing to spend much more money on a blu-ray player, but the prices have come down so much, you don't have to! I narrowed down my extensive search for the right player to the Panasonic DMP-BD35K and the Sony BDP-S350. **I BOUGHT THEM BOTH AND DID A "SIDE-BY-SIDE" TEST!**
I have some nice equipment, so I feel that the test was an excellent representation of the capabilities of these two players. My equipment includes a 100-inch Stewart screen with a 1080p Sony Pearl front projector, an Integra 9.8 DTC processor (with all the latest surround sound goodies), a 7-channel NAD amp, 7 Paradigm Signature speakers, and a dual M&K subwoofer (for full 7.1 surround sound).
I do understand electronics, but the Sony manual was really hard to follow. After only one call to Sony, I eventually got the player set up properly. After I set up the Panasonic, everything became much clearer. The Panasonic manual is so much better. But, who really cares about manuals? How do these two players perform side by side?
Audio for BOTH Blu-ray discs and standard DVDs: The Panasonic unquestionably has better audio. Compared to the Sony, the highs were much clearer. The 7.1 surround sound put me right in the middle of the "explosion" (my first test blu-ray disc was National Treasure I) when the Charlotte blew up. The biggest Audio difference was the bass. The bass in the Panasonic was so much better than the Sony. In fact, my old Sony standard-DVD player had better audio than the Sony BDP-S350. I'd give the Sony 3 stars with the audio. The Panasonic had outstanding treble, bass, and surround: 5-star audio!
Video for BOTH Blu-ray discs and standard DVDs: The Sony's video was good, but the Panasonic's video was fantastic! The skin tones were more realistic and the colors were more vibrant with the Panasonic. The Sony seemed to have a thin gray film over everything -- like looking through a filmy-dirty window. The Sony had 4-star video (it looked good, but not nearly as good when directly compared to the Panasonic). The Panasonic and its upscaling gets an easy 5 stars!
Both my wife and I did the "side-by-side" test by going back and forth between Blu-Ray discs and standard DVDs. We didn't discuss any of our thoughts until we each independently formed our own conclusions. After seeing and hearing both players, we were both in complete agreement that in every way the Panasonic DMP-BD35K was superior to the Sony BDP-S350.
By the way, the card slot on the Sony for BD-Live is very hard to get to. I do like Sony as a brand for some things, but not Blu-Ray players.
For those of you who are doing your research, hopefully I can save you some time to answer if you should buy the Panasonic DMP-BD35K or DMP-BD55K. I called Panasonic and asked the differences; besides the price, there are only two differences. The 55K plays DivX's. If you don't have any DivX's like me and most of the people on planet Earth, this doesn't make any difference to you. The only other difference is that the 35K can only output Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio to a receiver/processor that has an HDMI input. If your receiver doesn't have an HDMI input, you won't be able to get them out of the 35K. If your receiver does have an HDMI input and you'll be using an HDMI cable, then you have absolutely no need to buy the 55K. With the 55K, if you have an older receiver that does not have an HDMI input, you can use the 55K's analog audio outputs so that you can have Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio. That's a nice feature of the 55K if you have an older receiver but want the latest surround sound formats.
Also, to save you some research time, I've already checked out all of the professional reviews including the ones on CNet.com: The Sony is considered ok, and CNet liked the Panasonic so much that it is the first Blu-Ray player EVER to receive CNet's "Editor's Choice Award."
I have to go to the store now and return the Sony player that I bought. I'm keeping the Panasonic!! :-)
Hopefully you found this review helpful!
