By now most of you will have probably heard about the rule change that is going to affect the wedge. The new grooves must be smaller and much shallower in comparison. According to the USGA's website, 'The revisions are designed to restore the playing shots to the green from the rough by reducing backspin on those shots. The initial focus of the new rules will be competitions involving highly skilled professional golfers and will have little impact on the play of most golfers.'
It's all designed to encourage accuracy off the tee. But will players rethink about their course-management with the new groove rule?
Firstly, grooves on golf wedges will need to have a smaller cross-sectional area and the shoulders of each groove will be blunted to reduce the grip on the ball. This sounds really drastic and has led to a couple of golf pundits making a really big issue about it, claiming it will totally change the game. In reality, we won't see exactly what difference it will make until all the players start using them. From what I've seen on tour so far, I don't think it will be as bad as some people think. Obviously some players will have to change a lot more clubs in their bags than others. Some players may need to learn a couple of different shots to accommodate the changes.
For the 2010 PGA Tour season you will have seen that all Tour players are playing with wedges that conform to the new rule change. However amateur golfers don't have to worry about changing their wedge until 2024.
So if this isn't going to affect you for another 14 years why are we talking about it now? This is because as of December 31st, 2010, golf club manufacturers will no longer be able to produce golf wedges with large square grooves that most golfers have grown to love.

I have heard of people getting more than one sand wedge but i only want one. what would be the one that would have more loft than a pitching wedge but not to close or the far. I know there are different number( 40- 60) but i don't know what i would want because i don't know what this means.
Answer
Try a 56 degree. Then try a 54 degree. Then try a 58 degree. Tour pro's use one of these three sand wedges, and which one depends on your swing.
