Most kids table and chair sets are just too high for 1-3 years old. They were painfully expensive, but all the less expensive things I bought at the same time are now in the garage. I really need to get another set so that I will have four seats around the table, because that is where all the kids want to sit. With the table it looks very stylish, so it can be used in place of a coffee table (the stools fit nicely under the matching table when not in use) in a contemporary/modern room. When I saw one in a pic in a playroom in either Elle Decor or Dwell magazine then I knew it wasn't just me who thought it looked pretty cool.

(More customer reviews)I couldn't find any specifications for this piece, so I thought I'd share in case they might be useful for someone else. The seat is about 24 inches deep and 64 inches wide (plus about seven more for the width of the backrest. The seat height is about 16 inches from the floor, and the highest part of the backrest is about 30 inches off the floor: a nice, low profile. I'm a pretty tall guy, but I can lounge on it comfortably. The storage space in the seat is about four inches deep.
The fabric is decent quality, not the most velvety microfiber in the world, but it doesn't leave an impression of the last body part you pressed against it like some microfibers tend to do.
Also a minor comment about attention to detail in manufacturing: the instructions listed six places for bolts to attach the armrest to the seat and backrest, but one of the holes didn't contain any hardware for a bolt. It was basically a dead end about 1/2 inch deep. This doesn't appear to make any difference in the integrity of the piece, and I've seen this sort of thing in pieces from less expensive user-assembled furniture (think Swedish meatballs and a word rhyming with BYKEA). It probably saved the manufacturer about 10 cents, but multiply that and other shortcuts by 1000 pieces and a razor-thin margins and you've saved yourself some bucks (or, more accurately, some yuan).
That said, the piece is a good value and I'm happy with this purchase.

The problem is that the wood is so soft that when you write directly on the table, it marks it. We have solved the problem by getting a custom glass top made, but we definitely hadn't planned on doing that. If you have kids, I definitely would NOT recommend this table (unless you want to spend some extra cash on a glass top).

(More customer reviews)We're a family of bookworms who've had to get creative about adding linear feet of shelving. We also love oversize hardbound books and folios, so we need sturdy storage. A few months ago, I found these low-rise units on Amazon and realized they would fit in some unused space under a picture window. I ordered a single unit as kind of a test run to see how I liked the shelf in person -- color, stability, durability.
That shelf rated a solid six stars. I easily assembled it solo (instructions call for two-person assembly); the wood pieces were true and of reassuring heft, so I was able to put heavy books on both lower shelves and smaller items surrounded by movable decorative bookends on the top shelf (you could easily leave it bare or put collectibles there).
Unfortunately, the second piece I ordered had flaws in terms of the coloring of the finish. Because two of the three shelves and both of the rear rails are reversible, I was able to minimize the visual impact. I'm using these as bookshelves, the color issue is not a problem, but I wanted to note it for those who may be considering leaving most of the wood visible. Winsome's basket sets certainly would cover any areas and are designed to work with this line of shelves.
After a vigorous internal debate, as hinted at by the title of this review, I've given this shelf four stars. For me, the positives outweigh the negatives. It's sturdy, it's solid wood, I love the espresso tone, and it's a good value. As of this writing in May 2009, this product is sorted into the "bathroom" category and it does seem as though it would handle the humidity. However, to my mind it is well suited for a bedroom, living room or home office.

(More customer reviews)The pieces are solid wood (espresso finish) and they look nice. Easy to assemble but be sure to follow the directions. What I was really impressed with was how they made the back of the cabinet. I've made other ready-to-assemble furniture, like book cases, where the back of it is thick cardboard and is attached to the outside back via small nails. I can see why manufacturers would do this because it is much cheaper for them. For this cabinet though, the back is thin plywood and it is attached to the back via grooves inside the cabinet - no nails or glue! This is the type of back I see from the show The New Yankee Workshop which I think could fool other people to thinking it's not ready-to-assemble.
Two small things prevented me from giving it 5 stars. The first is the door stop that's inside the cabinet to prevent the door from going too far in the cabinet. The door stop (two of them) is made of plastic with what looks like a magnet inside and one of mine was cracked. It wasn't enough to send it back but I ended up taping it together and it seems ok. What was also weird is, the door itself had no metal strip inside it so the door stop having a magnet doesn't make sense. Fortunately, the door is snug enough not to need a magnet to hold it closed. The second thing is the strong odor of furniture polish. I don't think it's the smell of wood because it's too strong. When I open the door, I get a whiff of what I normally smell from furniture polish (and I didn't use anything on it - just a duster). It was strong enough that I worried if it would somehow leave a taste in the wine glasses I have stored in it. I've used a wine glass from it and did not detect any off-taste so that's good.
I would definitely buy again - will see if Winsome also makes end tables since I'm in need of one.

(More customer reviews)This shelf is durable and well put together. However, assembly IS required. You will be required to glue hefty pegs in place and to screw in some allen-hex screws.
This is made of real wood, not particle board, so you'll have to wiggle a little here and there to get it all lined up. Once it's in place, the screws hold it together snugly while the pegs dry.
The peg holes are a little oversized because it's consumer assembly, and you don't want someone breaking it with a hammer. As such, I recommend overuse of wood/white glue to fill the holes.
Once it's assembled, the "smart" thing to do is to wait a day or two for the glue to dry, and make sure there are no drips/runs.
However, I loaded mine up with books and equipment immediately and have been very happy with it over the last 6 months. I've moved it around, leaned on it, piled heavy books on top, etc.
Because it's open on the sides, the weight is much less than something more solid. The slats hold in most anything I'd want to put on the shelves. There's even a little room under it which I found was good for packing into a corner with a torchiere light, or for hiding misc stuff. YMMV as you might find it simply collects dust bunnies.
Either way, my unit does not wobble other than being tall and thin. It supports any book load I put on it, free-standing.
In summary, this is REAL WOOD, free standing, about 5' tall, and can be assembled by one person with a sore back in about 20 minutes with glue and an allen wrench. It can be carried by one person, but is stable on the floor.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this table along with the two benches and two bar stools directly from Ashley Furniture Home Store. It is absolutely beautiful and we get a ton of compliments on the set. HOWEVER...it has been nothing but a problem since delivery. The table was delivered with two huge gouges on the side edge. Ashley's came and fixed it within a few weeks and did a great job fixing it. I can't find the repair spots anywhere. The first time I cleaned the table, I used a microfiber cloth and water. The table had minature scratches all over it. After the first meal on the table, it looks horrible. Scratches everywhere...that's not all. Within the first month, both benches broke and we had to repair them ourselves. The one bar stool lug nut wasn't even installed correctly. Whoever put it together, stripped the nut and just stopped where it was.
Table was delivered the week before we moved into our new house. We moved 10/2/10. By Thanksgiving, we repaired every single piece of this set. The only reason I'm giving this a 2 start rating and not a 1 star rating is because it is beautiful, and I get a ton of compliments. Thank goodness we don't use our dining room on a daily basis.
