Do know that you have a data problem, before it bites you

How good is your data?  How well it meets the requirements of your new ERP system?  How much of the cleaning/migration efforts is automatically can and how much the business is going to have to do manually?  Unless you know the answer to these questions it is really hard to plan a data migration project well.

Therefore is the first phase of a data migration methodology it should be the data profile.  The tools that I prefer to use to do this are usually SAP BusinessObjects data insight and data services.

With these tools, together with basic knowledge of the requirements the development of a snapshot which can provide data in the legacy system can fit “Inside” how well it into the new system, what issues come and be available to set up an idea, whether the problems can be fixed programmatically, or if you need a human touch.

All too often at the last minute, the business is told that data is missing and the new system is not without it work.  You then run around frantically trying to get good accurate data or just your hands in the air cast and make ‘Default’-data only, to get something in the system.  Neither option is best.  This profiling as the first phase of the project to many of these types of situations at an early stage be identified and avoided.  The business get plenty of time, in order to collect the necessary data and to ensure that it meets the intended business must in the new system.

No rush at the end of the data – plan ahead!

One of the things I see all too often is that the data stream of a project to the last moment is left.  This makes it difficult to do system to test you, that you will find no real data to test with all kinds of problems – if the people concerned and stressed.  Get made up data, a few records, which bears no resemblance to the actual data that will see users in the system of production – and means nothing to you in connection with your legacy system.

It is any wonder then, that the user verify problems have, whether the system works not you can say how that should be it, because the data that was used to mean not everything for you.  It’s hard to say whether it is right or wrong.

The best way to overcome this problem is early for planning data migration and cleaning tasks, set up this with the ERP implementation plan and plan the first study data conversion (TDC) shortly before the first round of system testing done. In this way the user have to use real data to test and can relate to the functionality that you get from their brand new system, rather than complain about the bad data in the system, which all mean to you didn’t.

Separate data sets without view with a different mask masks

This blog explains how have choice not in one of the masks available to export/records. Until the time that I modify not mask functionality find it was quite difficult, seek to achieve in MDM and requires a lot of thinking. So check it out as select/export with this property are not in each with a different mask “records without mask” of records masks available.

I take example with two masks (Mask1 and Mask2), can you as per your number of masks in the MDM Data Manager manages.

Logic is quite simple: Records with no mask = total number of records in repository – total number of records in Mask1 – total number of records in Mask2

Procedure:
First, create a new mask with the name tell is without mask masks table, if you select masks table as your current table, as shown below:

MasksTable

Now you choose main table again as your current table. Now reset search that show available records X of X (all records) in your data manager, go to the records section, select all records by CTRL + A, then right click–> Add to the mask–> records without mask. So, these records without mask contain all records of your repository.

Now in search select Mask1 show the number of records in this mask from the total number of records in data manager to the available Prameters. Go to file–> export in text–> as shown below.

Text

A popup window will be, here select a single field simply (export fields from available fields) which has unique value for each record in your data manager available. It can be your display field (DF).

popup

A text file is used by SAP MDM Data Manager, contains all available export records to your Mask1. Similarly, you have to do for the remaining masks. I mean here for Mask2 as well.

Now you have available two local text files available on your desktop according to the number of records in Mask1 and Mask2.

Now go to data-manager–> reset search. Then go to–> records change mask

left

Once click Change mask is a popup window, as shown below. Change mask–> you choose process to remove from file (radio button) and source records (radio button)–> also, make sure that you masks as data sets without maskof available masks and then press the OK button selected. Select the Mask1 text file and thats it.

ModifyMask

Now, you see, that the records from the mask draws without mask now has reduced, because you have removed the number of records that are available in Mask1.

You do it again for the remaining mask Simialrly, for Mask2, that is, go here–> you to data manager–> reset search–> go change mask–> you choose process to remove from file (radio button) and source records (radio button)–> make you also sure you masks as selected records without mask of available masks and then press the OK button. Now mask records without mask which have the exact number of records that are available in one of the mask.

Note: Even if you have some common data sets available, where both masks, the Mask1 and Mask2 is, need not to worry about it. It works fine.

Scenario example: I have 10 records in data manager.
Material number (DF):
Mat-Nr 1
Mat Nr. 2
No. 3-mat
Mat-Nr. 4
Mat Nr. 5
Mat Nr. 6
No. 7-mat
Mat-Nr. 8
Mat Nr. 9
No. 10-mat

After the export records for Mask1 say it has these under records.
Mat-Nr 1
Mat Nr. 2
Mat-Nr. 8
No. 10-mat

After the export records for Mask2 say it has these under records.
No. 3-mat
Mat-Nr. 4
Mat-Nr. 8
Mat Nr. 9

Here, though Mask2 Mat. 8 is available common data set in the Mask1 has, it will not fail if you change records from file for Mask2 operation remove mask, do.

So, as soon as you created say a mask records without mask , all 10 records contain. You have entries from Mask1, which leads to remove 6 records, is the 10-4 = 6

If we do it for Mask2, if it is 4 records but a record, Mat-Nr. 8 already removed because of Mask1, so it is subtracted 3 records. That is to say 6: 3 = 3. So, now you have mask records without mask , which is only 3 required and desired result.
Mat Nr. 5
Mat Nr. 6
No. 7-mat

So in this way, you can export these records mask MDM data available under records without mask with SAP Manager or MDM Syndicator.

SAP NetWeaver BPM applied in consumer products

I look forward to the eBook that presents the use of SAP NetWeaver BPM for consumer products company based on actual customer projects to announce. This eBook was together management consumer products with Thomas M. Ellenberg from solution and Matthias Weber developed by marketing BPM solution.

The first use case points out, such as consumer product companies the determination of the promotional material demand with SAP NetWeaver BPM can optimize.  In fact this is implemented with SAP NetWeaver BPM of German bottler Coca-Cola soft drinks AG (CCE AG) of the first process.  If you are interested in more details then you explore the business transformation study of Coca-Cola soft drinks.  In addition you must face also apply to the use case CCE AG in the upcoming BPM book “applying real-world BPM in an SAP environment” is marked. It is written by Alexander Grobe, Manager enterprise architecture, and innovation in CCE AG and Gregor Müller, business development manager at SAP. You share CCE AG BPM journey and provide great insight in who you are in the help and articulate the value that BPM can have within SAP environments.

The second use case “streamlining the creation of master data such as customer, supplier and product master data” is based on real customer projects. It is not limited to consumer goods industry, but is relevant for most industries, and in fact is the most popular use case SAP NetWeaver BPM.  So why do many companies have questions relating to master data quality? SAP NetWeaver MDM configuration made easy

When configuring SAP NetWeaver MDM, different areas of competence are involved, that a single MDM administrator can not cover out-of-the-box without additional subject matter experts, such as the database or system administrator.

The new MDM configuration wizard simplifies this task and transforms it into an intuitive process can easily be performed by the MDM Administrator without additional support.

alt

The first edition of the MDM Configuration Wizard guides MDM administrators as an Assistant by the configuration of the MDM server to connect to a DB server, provided for the creation of new repositories using the MDM console is. Further configuration steps are planned to be included in later versions.

The new tool can be used as of SAP NetWeaver MDM 7.1 SP03 and higher.

For the instruction manual to SAP Note 1543650 (above URL) connected.

Experience in the field of data migration

Data migration experiences.

We are all are aware that the game be placed on implementation projects if the data migration is not thorough and planned. The successful implementation of mission-critical SAP enterprise applications requires a mission-critical approach to data migration. The main activities of data migration are, transformation and loading of legacy data to the SAP System. The main activities can be classified more as follows:

Data conversion data ProfilingMapping ConversionData ValidationsCutover PlanningLoadingReconciliationError ProcessingData.

The load data is a very critical activity within SAP data migration, and we have many options to do data load into the SAP systems. The following table gives the different data loading tools that are available today.

SAP certified interface for data migration
SAP contains delivered programs for the most commonly used masters and Transaktionsdaten.Programme data in a valid and well formed flat file must. usual method to move data in SAP

Each one of the above mentioned tools can be used for the loading of data. However, it is important to understand the performance of each of these tools in different scenarios. Most of the time, will leave it to the discretion of the consultant to choose the tool works on a project.

I’ll try, some guidelines on the use of the above data download tools give.

Are you ready for an audit?

BlogsChristianeHoeninger

If the IRS or other tax and regulatory agencies call, are you ready? There was a time in the SAP world, that means implementation of SAP-DART before archiving as “audit ready”. But for many companies as audit ready means that can respond to a process in place, to a dizzying array of tax and regulatory systems in an instant on requirements and information requests. It is a problem, which affects the bottom line: millions of sentences expect a multinational company, simply from their inability to pay report in a timely manner.

As audit data ready is not easy under any circumstances – it takes comprehensive know-how with SAP and the technical solutions available. DART was originally developed, the need of IRS data extracts, but companies with complex operations in several tax and regulatory environments – and sometimes several SAP systems work – often need to process efficiently more flexibility than DART extensions. These companies need to have it both ways – a standardized, repeatable process to index of data relating to taxes and the ability to efficiently respond to ad hoc requests.

The correct solution is not a single tool – this is the solution that delivers what businesses need to control and audit data, efficient, ad-hoc requests and maintaining the high system performance. For many environments, the latest version of DART is the brand for extracting the control data of Auditors needed. Other companies deal with high amounts of data and complex tax environments, where new technologies and practices can provide a higher level of flexibility and speed.

Audit may more…
2010-01-05 13: 34: 53 Clemens Li business card [reply]

in a few projects we have with restrictions difficult to understand, to live. Transactions in development and sandbox systems audit was barely comprehensible reasons justified banned.

Also many measures are taken to documentation of each irregular, but necessary database change in production systems – to know that it is still possible to do without traces to leave or fingerprints in the system any kind of malicious data processing.

So it’s enough to be based on the assumption, the auditors who will never find out what you have done?

External and internal audit should and focuses more on process, not only data extraction.

Got unruly data you down? No fear, EIM is here

The value of harnessing unruly corporate data to the probably serve the enterprise efficiency (and get a version of the truth) was discussed, discussed and dissected for many years. I think it is high time that we throw some cold water on this overheated conversation with three soothing words: enterprise information management (EIM).

For the uninitiated offers SAP TechEd Shanghai the perfect opportunity to learn more about the benefits of EIM. On-boarding data (data migration, data quality, data storage), to the ongoing administration and use of data (quality, governance), to deal with unstructured content (document management), EIM holds the key for managing the data flood. In fact some SAP customers have recognized, EIM benefits such as reduced duplication of data from 25% to 2%, migration of over 30 different ERP systems on two, and over a billion dollars through the setting of data saved questions. How?
