Relay for HOPE Marks 25 Years of Fighting Cancer with new Facebook APP

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is a worldwide movement to eliminate cancer with more than 3.5 million people in 20 countries working together to celebrate cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease.

2009 marks 25 YEARS of HOPE for Relay, so the American Cancer Society is unveiling a new SHOW US YOUR HOPE Facebook application, to welcome anyone who has been affected by cancer to rally support and stand in solidarity with the cancer community.

Not sure why I hadn't thought of sharing this info before, but on iTunes, you can download tons of FREE podcasts which cover a variety of topics related to Breast Cancer, such as breast self-exams, mammogram and mastectomy information, in addition to clinical updates from a variety of medical schools and cancer research centers. GoodwillToo.com - Online Thrift Store Shopping for a Cause

Goodwill brick-and-mortar stores have been a charitable organization for a long time, and in recent years, re-branding themselves as less of a donation center, and more of a quality thrift shopping experience. With a mixture of both donated and gently used items, also had attracted a number of retailers and wholesalers donating new merchandise that had gone unsold in stores like LL Bean and Macys, among others. These retailers also got a beneficial tax break while helping the Goodwill organization raise money for a variety of causes.

Now, GoodwillToo.com is an online store for savvy shoppers looking for some steals and deals, primarily offering new merchandise, but you may find a special one-of-a-kind item donated to the stores as well. Goodwill Too has this to say about the online shopping experience:

Took Some Time off for the Holidays



So I didn't really post anything in December because I spent some time traveling, and spending lots of time with family and friends this holiday season. One of those trips included a visit with my dad (battling cancer) - I'm happy to report he's doing very well, and hoping to go home soon, as he's just over halfway done with his radiation treatment.

One of my personal new year's resolutions is to post more on this blog every month to help raise money for cancer research foundations. While breast cancer awareness and research will continue to be my primary focus, I may post more often about other cancer fundraising programs and research organizations.

Black Friday Goes Pink This Holiday Season

It seems as though this holiday season is inspiring shoppers to shop for the cause yet again, as pink ribbon products and awareness items that donate to breast cancer research continue to be popular since the 2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Month ended. Let the holiday spirit of giving begin!

It's Oct 30th - Have You Forgotten About Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

The month of October has just flown by, and like many others, you may be wanting it to be over already, because you're sick of the barrage of pink products. Understandable. The month of October now kind of reminds me of the saying we have for March (in like a..out like a) - October's slogan about pink ribbon products may go something like this: "In like an avalanche, out like a flurry".

As I said two weeks ago, interest in breast cancer awareness month seems to drop off about halfway through, and 2008 also appears to be following that trend. But there's still a little bit of time to think pink in 2008.

So consider this your last minute reminder that you only have one day left to buy any pink ribbon products from companies that use October 31st as the cut off for their donations to Susan G. Komen, the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), among other smaller charities and programs that raise money for the cure and breast cancer awareness.

Keep in mind that select companies may keep donation periods open longer - often until the end of the year. Look through the list of October 2008's Breast Cancer Awareness Products to find companies which have a longer donation period, and find out which products you must purchase by the end of October. Both eBags and GUESS are two examples of companies which donate for an extended period of time.
