King Arthur
Who is King Arthur?
We have all heard of King Arthur, but how many of us really know who he is? King Arthur was a famous British king who existed in the late fifth and early sixth centuries. The Medieval histories and romances all claim that it was King Arthur who led the British to fight against Saxon invaders when they tried to stake their claim in the early sixth century. Because of lost information and vagueness one cannot be sure of King Arthur’s story as it can only be pieced together by collating folklore and literary invention. That is why many historians doubt that he actually existed at all.
Books or literary works that talk about King Arthur include Annales Cambriae, the Historia Brittonum, and the writings of Gildas. He is also the subject of early poetry sources such as Y Gododdin. But the book that is responsible for making King Arthur so incredibly famous was Geoffrey of Monmouth’s fanciful and imaginative 12th-century Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain). In certain Welsh and Breton tales and poems King Arthur is portrayed as a great warrior defending Britain from human as well as otherworldly foes. As these date from earlier than Historia Regum Britanniae, people don’t know of Geoffrey of Monmouth took ‘inspiration’ from these works while penning his rendition of King Arthur.
Another work of fiction that has taken inspiration from these earlier works is the 2004 filmic version of King Arthur. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by David Franzoni, King Arthur stars Clive Owen as the lead and the two characters that are most associated with him – Lancelot and Guinevere are played by Ioan Gruffudd and Keira Knightley respectively. In it the magical aspect of King Arthur is explored and Clive Owen does great justice to the role. Watch King Arthur to see Clive Owen’s amazing acting as well as fighting prowess. And the story is quite interesting as well.

Clive Owen as The Driver for BMW
We’ve seen Clive Owen in many an exciting role. He’s been a heroic protector, a spy, a lecherous sex addict, a man who has spelt with his sister and a criminal. He’s been shot at, screamed at but still come out of it with his cool intact. But one of his most interesting avatars has been as a driver. In a classic series of BMW ads, Clive Owen has managed to make Madonna bounce around the back seat of a BMW but will managed to keep his inimitable cool as a chauffeur.
So good is Clive Owen at what he does, so slick and steely as a chauffeur, that its easy to forget that in actuality Clive Owen is doing some hard core car selling. Even though he is the central character of the BMW films, he is in fact just making sure that the film’s true stars, the beautiful BMWs he driving, come out looking their absolute best. So successful was Clive Owen that BMW proceeded to make three more films starring him as he cooler than cool chauffeur.
Earlier editions of the BMW films feature well-known directors such as Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai, Guy Ritchie, John Frankenheimer and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Wonder who the next director will be. As of now David Fincher of “Panic Room” fame is once again going to be executive producing the film while Clive Owen will be starring or should we say, sharing the spotlight with the BMWs he’s driving.
Though all of them star Clive Wildly each BMW film is unlike the other. Previous films include “Ambush,” “Chosen,” “Star” and “Powder Keg”. And celebrities such as Mickey Rourke and Madonna have only made the films that much better to watch. While some would scoff at so much effort to make just another car commercial it is worth mentionng the BMW starring Clive Owen as The Driver have made it into the Internet Movie Data Base, making them the only commercials to have been given this honor.
