http://karateclassesonline.com Shotokan karate
kata Nijushiho, performed by Stuart Amos. The original
name for nijushiho is Niseishi and is still practiced
as niseishi in many karate styles and schools. When
master Gichin Funakoshi introduced karate from Okinawa
to Japan, he changed the name of the kata from Niseishi
to Nijūshiho. Both names mean 24 steps and many
karateka believe there is strong connections with
buddhist beliefs, but other karateka believe the kata
originated from china This black belt kata is a very
popular karate kata with shotokan karate black belts.
There are many changes in tempo, fast to slow and slow
to fast. This is a favourite competition karate
kata.

http://karateclassesonline.com When someone first
starts karate, shomen and hanmi are explained early on.
My karate instructor always explained hanmi and shomen
as, Hanmi = side facing and Shomen = Square facing.
Some karate Sensei vary in the way they practice shomen
and hanmi, so i can only explain the way i practice, so
please, if you are new to karate, ask your sensei for
an explanation of shomen and hanmi. Initially, a
beginner to karate will be told that hanmi (side
facing), is used for the basic blocks and kizami zuki
(jab punch) in front stance and shomen (square facing),
is used for the two basic punches oi zuki (stepping
punch) and gyaku zuki (reverse punch).

http://karateclassesonline.com Here is a quick
shotokan kata video. Empi kata is normally a brown belt
intermediate shotokan kata. Empi, is a kata practiced
by the Shotokan school of karate and some other styles.
Empi means Flying Swallow and is also referred to as
enpi.. Empi comes from the Okinawan martial art of
Tomari-te, where it first appeared in 1683. Many karate
historians believe it originates from Chinese boxing.
It was originally called Wansu. Master Gichin Funakoshi
changed the name to Empi when he exported karate to the
Japanese mainland in the 1920s.
