The very cheapest tickets for all of your rail travel

Your questions about cheap airline tickets

Betty asks…

Wheres the best web site to find cheap airline tickets?

Im in Australia and allways travelling to asia so I need to get cheap as ticket.

Travel Geek answers:

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. just go here: http://bookme.com/flights.php and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Joseph asks…

Where is the best place online to get CHEAP domestic airline tickets?

I’ve been all over travelocity, expedia, cheaptickets, delta… You know, all the well known ones. But I know SOMEONE out there has a website for cheap airline deals! What is your secret to getting the lowest airfare? Any suggestions?

Travel Geek answers:

Try out http://farechase.yahoo.com. Its pretty neat. I’ve never found cheaper rates than the ones shown there.

Helen asks…

Any suggestions for cheap airline tickets?

I would like to reserve a flight online, but I would like a reliable airline at a reasonable price. Thanks in advance for your help : )
Flying one way from Oklahoma to Georgia, USA

Travel Geek answers:

I would suggest http://www.easyjet.com as a reliable airline at a reasonable price — just as you asked for — but I really have no clue if that’s actually helpful to you since Easyjet only fly in Europe. Where will you travel from? To where? Add some details to your question and you’ll probably get better answers. I’ll check back later to see if I can improve mine for you.

updated after Asker added details =====

Ok, I checked TUL and OKC to ATL for the upcoming month. Cheapest one way I see, with all taxes and fees, is available for $213 with American connecting at St. Louis. To get details on this fare, or check another month, try http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar and once you get a firm travel date, also run it through http://www.bookingbuddy.com just to be sure there’s nothing better.

Paul asks…

Where can I find dirt cheap airline tickets from Memphis (MEM), TN to Los Angeles (LAX), CA?

My boyfriend and I are trying to find real cheap airline tickets from Memphis, TN to Los Angeles, CA for maybe sometime later this month, but don’t know where to find them. We’ve tried all of the major airline ticket providers like CheapTickets, Orbitz, Priceline, ect; but we STILL can’t find anything and they’ve got to be AMAZINGLY CHEAP.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

-Elle-

Travel Geek answers:

Try the airline’s website since they will offer specials the travel websites do not have. You may also look into flying into alternative airports. L.A. has more than 1 airport. Instead of flying into LAX, look into flying into Ontario, Orange County or Burbank. Sometimes it is cheaper.

Your questions about italy rail travel

Mary asks…

Does a rail pass for Italy/France let you ride night trains?

My husband and I are going to France and Italy in about a month. I have no idea how we are going to get around. We are going from Naples to Rome, then to Venice, then Paris. Should we get a rail pass? And traveling from Venice to Paris should we ride a night train? And if so, what train? Also, if we get a rail pass will we be able to get a discounted night train pass or anything? I’m not sure how all of this works….please help!

Travel Geek answers:

For most of the Italian high speed trains you will need to pay additional fees for the compulsory reservation. Night trains can be used however again a supplement needs to be paid. You can read detailed information about passes here:
http://www.seat61.com/Railpass-and-Eurail-pass-guide.htm ..

In general you are better off by buying the train tickets for the individual routes. Prices vary based on the type of train you use. Eurostar trains are more expensive than InterCity trains. Prices in parentheses are for 1st class.
Napoli – Roma
Eurostar AV [1:10 hours] — €45.00 (€58.00)
Eurostar [1:45 hours] — €36.00 (€49.00)
InterCity [2:04 hours] — €22.00 (€29.00)
Roma – Venezia
Frecciargento [3:48 hours] — €76.00 (€104.00)
InterCity [5:31 - 6:13] — €45.50 (€62.50)
Venezia – Paris Bercy
EuroNight [13:33 hours] — €130.00
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD ..

The night train from Venice to Paris is the only direct connection; day travel would involve several train changes and would take between 10 ½ and 12 hours. An alternative option would be a 1 ¾ hour flight with easyJet.
http://www.easyjet.com/asp/en/book/index.asp?lang=en ..

Lizzie asks…

Options of Italy rail day pass or point/point ticket?

Travel to Italy for Rome 2 nights, Padova 6 nights( Close to Venice) , florence 1 night, Venice 1 night
plan to use Trenitalia Train system which provide regional train to stop Montegrotto Terme which
located between Bologna and close to Padova there stay for my 6 nights, Train trips Rome-Padova, Padova-florencoe (Once Round trips in two days), 2 -3 days Padova/Venice round trips, then join a
tour group in Venice, 6 days train pass or point/point tickets, which one is better?
Your experience and suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

Travel Geek answers:

Individual point to point tickets are almost always cheaper here than a pass. This is particularly true for the short trips you will be taking. You can find individual ticket prices and schedules here: ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD When you use the website, just use Montegrotto for the station there – it’s a shared train station Terme Euganee-Abano-Montegrotto, but you won’t find it if you use the term Montegrotto Terme. From there to Padova costs 1.85 euro and takes 13 minutes on a regional train. Note that there are discounts on the fast trains for buying individual tickets in advance. When you use a railpass on these trains, you still have to make a reservation and pay an additional 10 euro for each fast train with the pass.

See the section called “Common railpass mistakes: Italy…” about 20% of the way down the page on the following site to confirm what I told you about individual tickets being cheaper than passes most of the time:

http://www.seat61.com/

It would make a lot more sense to do this trip in the order Rome-Florence-Padova-Venice since Florence is more than half way back to Rome from Padova on the train line.

Sandy asks…

I will be traveling to Italy and my home base (taking side trips) will be in Naples.?

I am wondering if there is another train rail that runs in Italy besides the Eurostar? Something cheap that you can ride on everday and every morning to take side trips. Also, is it easier to travel from Naples to Rome, Naples to the Amalfi Coast, Naples to Calabria, Naples to Lake Como; by train or car? Can you take a Ferry from Naples to Palermo, Sicily? How long is the Ferry (How many hours, minutes)?

Travel Geek answers:

The Eurostar is a type of train, not the train company here. It’s one of the faster trains with limited stops and therefore more expensive. Depending on where you’re going, there may be intercity trains with a few more stops or regional trains with a lot of stops. The regional trains are generally the cheapest option, but take longer and may require multiple train changes if you’re going long distances. You can check specific schedules and prices at the Italian train website: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=3fdbe14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD

I wouldn’t recommend driving in either Naples or Rome.

From Naples to the Amalfi Coast, you can go by boat, bus, or train. The train is the Circumvesuviana line which goes to Sorrento (and there’s a stop at Pompeii on the way). To go beyond Sorrento, you need to take a bus or boat if you’re not driving. There are Ferry schedules and prices here for Capri and the Amalfi Coast: http://www.capri.net/en/ship-timetable

Ferries to Palermo take about 10.5 hours. There’s information here: http://www.viamare.com/SNAV-naples-palermo.html

Jenny asks…

is it possible to cover Amsterdam, a part of France and Italy in 6 days trip?

I’m looking for a day in Amsterdam, to just zip through France and onto Italy. We will be 2 people together and if required we can skip France from the itinerary. How much money would be required? What would be the best mode of travelrail or by air? What would be the best places to see in so little a time and where to stay? Please Help! What should be ideal itinerary?

Travel Geek answers:

Of course it is possible, Americans and Japanese do it all the time, but we Europeans think those tourists are crazy.
Although some people think 2 days in Amsterdam is too long, I think that after an intercontinental flight you need more than one day in Amsterdam.
Here is a link with good info on what to do and see in Amsterdam:
http://www.amsterdam.info/ (It has links to museums, a map and all else you need in the town.)

From Amsterdam to Paris will take half a day by train, flying is not much faster nor cheaper, can take more time and money if you are not lucky,)

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/dynamic/_SvHomePage?_DLG=SvHomePage&_CMD=cmdHomepageUK&WB=HP&rfrr=4685ac17fd2e7656e4918c53b246a3f7

http://www.ns.nl/servlet/Satellite?cid=1078395483680&pagename=www.ns.nl%2FPage%2FHomepageInternationalEnglish&lang=en&c=Page

For the high speed trains you get a ticket for one train only, not to be used in any other train.

Paris to Milano takes about 8 hours, and that is just the north of Italy.
You will want to see several places in Italy, have a look at the Italian railplanner site, and work it out for yourself:

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

You might get it all in, but it will be rushed and you will not see a lot.
Better to slow down a bit more and skip France.

Here is a link with several cheap flights:

http://www.whichbudget.com/en/cheapflights.php?from=AMS#AMSItaly

Within Italy it is rather likely that buying tickets as you go is cheaper than buying a pass.
Specially if you just travel two or three times, even longer distances. On the fast trains you also need to pay a surcharge when traveling with a pass.

For how much money you need, that is very hard.
The average tourist in Amsterdam spends about €200 per day per person, over $250, but some people traveling on budget still manage for less than $100 per day per person.
It is easy to spend much more too.
For France and Italy you can expect the same kind of prices, and flitting around by train will add a lot to what you need.

I wonder if it is wise to combine Amsterdam with Italy, even without France. 6 days for a country like Italy is already not enough.

John asks…

Using the Italia Rail in Italy.?

We will be traveling to Italy in the near future. We want to take the Italia Rail to Venice from Florence for a day trip. When I try to access the run time I notice that there doesn’t seem to be anything leaving out of Venice back to Florence after 4:30 p.m.

Are there any run times our of Venice to Florence in the evening so that we can enjoy dinner and come back later?

Travel Geek answers:

The italian railway company is TRENITALIA.
Here is its web: www.trenitalia.it

On the left you can find the tkts area, so you can look for trains.
Anyway the way from venice to florence is one of the most important in Italy: there is about one train per hour.

4,27 pm, 5,27 pm, 6,27 pm, 7,27 pm.
The last one seems to be at 7,27 pm.

Your questions about cheap car insurance

Lizzie asks…

cheap car insurance for young people?

i just turned 15.
ive gotten a few quotes and all of them are around 300 dollars a month.

who should i get my insurance with and what type of car will make it the cheapest.?

Please help.

Travel Geek answers:

Yeah unfortunately insurance is really costly for young people (especially males) Your best chance of getting low insurance is to get a really old car. For my i was under my parents policy and i was put under a 1988 Toyota Truck and my insurance cost around 600 a half year so 1200 a year which is really good for me ( i was 16 when i got my license). I am now 21 and when i fiddle around with the insurance company seeing how much i cost per half year with the different cars i cost around 1200 for a new 2007 Accord, and about 800 for a 1996 toyota sienna. So hopefully you guys have some really really old car still around and try to put your name under that car.

Daniel asks…

What is a cheap car insurance company in New Jersey?

I am only 20 yrs old.

Travel Geek answers:

The best price I found for myself is Liberty Mutual. All the other major companies had higher premiums. I used to have Geico and ended up switching….my parents and sister also switched to Liberty Mutual and they saved a lot of money.

It is usually best to go to an office in your area and meet with them in person. They will be able to explain the plan in detail and prices differ slightly from doing it online. Plus they will really help you understand what you are getting as part of the plan.

NJ is still one of the most expensive places for car insurance. When I went to college in upstate NY I was paying less than $1000 a yr…..but now that I’m living back in NJ my rate is $2400 a yr….which is still high but better than anything else I could find. (Btw…im 23….so prices will probably be in the same price range for you …I have a perfect driving record//drive a honda civic….just so you get an idea….I mean if you have a ticket or something it will cost more). But if you are in school or work for certain companies you can get discounts.

Susan asks…

cheap car insurance for people under 25?

I’m trying to find the cheapest car insurance since i’m under 25 in new york. I’m looking to pay no more then 400 a month just don’t know where to find a good deal. Please advise

Travel Geek answers:

Cheap insurance for those under 25 is a bit of an oxymoron, especially in NY.

Best bet is to give an independent agent all your information and let him search his data base to find the best deal for you.

James asks…

Where can I find cheap car insurance in UK?

I have had my licence for over 10 years and am in my thirties, I have constantly driven throughout this time, as a named driver for the last few years. I have never had a conviction, made a claim or had an accident yet insurers are quoting me stupid quotes due to lack of no claims.

Travel Geek answers:

I would use a search engine and look up different insurance companys and get some quotes that is the easiest way to get insurance.

Lisa asks…

cheap car insurance 22yr old just passed test but have been banned for drink driving?

hi all i’ve been banned from driving and now i’ve passed my test i need cheap car insurance but everywhere i go is way to high for me. any advice please?
i’m not very happy about the fact that almost all of you are giving bad commets apart from the few good ones that i’ve seen have given good answers. let me point this out to you. i did not drive well unfit though drink i was just getting my mobile from my mates car but as i had the keys and was in the drivers set i got nicked and done. just because you’ve been banned for drink driving does not mean the person had to be driving so why dont all you ppl who jump in with your big mouths and self centerd views think about things before you say anything?

Travel Geek answers:

Take the bus for a while. You have shown the world you are a high-risk driver, and that is why you are getting quotes for big bucks. You now have to prove to the world, over time, that you can be trusted. There is no cheap insurance for people convicted of serious offences like that, and there shouldn’t be.

Your questions about nj transit train

Steven asks…

Travel from NYC Penn Station to the Izod Center in NJ?

My husband and I are visiting NYC over New Year’s and we’ll be going to a Nets-Cavs game in New Jersey. I found the NJ Transit website (below) regarding travel to the Izod Center and it says that I will connect in Seacaucus Junction. Should I purchase tickets in advance? There seem to be several trains so I’m not sure it’s necessary. How early should we leave – game is at 1 p.m. Thanks for any help.

http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TripPlannerMdwIzodTo

Travel Geek answers:

You can purchase your train ticket on the day of the game. There is no need to purchase them in advance. In case you need to know haw to get to the Izod Center, here’s to get there from New York Penn Station.

Take any westbound NJ Transit train from Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, where you can then transfer to a shuttle bus to the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

When taking the train from Penn Station, please make sure the destination on the departure board has the initials “SEC” displayed next to the train number. “SEC” stands for Secaucus Junction.

A round trip ticket on NJ Transit from Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, which includes the transfer to the shuttle bus will cost $7.75. Please buy you ticket at Penn Station before boarding and hold on to your ticket because you will have to show it to the bus driver when transfering at Secaucus Junction.

I hope this information is very helpful.

Good luck

Michael asks…

NYC to Rutgers graduation – car or train?

I’m going today to see my boyfriend graduate. How is parking and traffic in New Brunswick? Would it be worth it to take NJ transit even tho I have a car just to not deal with parking and traffic? I’d rather drive but I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty crazy on the New Brunswick roads today. So, to drive or ride?
thats what I figured
the ceremony is across from the grease trucks so thats not too far of a walk
I just like the convenience of having a car and not having to worry about train times and buying tickets

Travel Geek answers:

Take the train. It’s about a 45 minute ride. Once you get to New Brunswick they have a million signs directing you to the main campus.

Susan asks…

What is the best & cheapest way to get to Brooklyn from Philadelphia?

I am trying to get to Brooklyn from Philadelphia to see a band play – so I don’t want to stay overnight, and I’d prefer the cheapest option. China Town buses are a bit confusing, it’s hard to tell whether they actually take you to Brooklyn from PHL, or if you can only go from Brooklyn to Philadelphia. I’m also a fan of NJ Transit / regional rai / train, whatever. Also, driving is not entirely out either. Thanks!

Travel Geek answers:

I’m not real fond of the Chinatown buses, but the place they drop you off is actually quite close to Brooklyn. I’m pretty sure it’s only a couple of blocks from the East Broadway stop of the F train, the last stop in Manhattan for that train. Of course that’s a confusing part of New York and it’s hard to find the actual subway station.

If you like going NJ Transit, then just take it to Penn Station and then you probably want to find the A and C trains heading to Downtown/Brooklyn. Depending on where you’re going, one of those might be your train or you might need to transfer.

The Bolt Bus http://www.boltbus.com is only $12 or less and drops you at 34th street and 8th avenue, also near the A and C. Just a few feet away, actually.

Betty asks…

I will be commuting to Rutgers Newark and I was wondering whats the fastest way to get there…?

By train or bus?? I’d rather not drive but I can if I have to. But for now, I’m interested in taking NJ transit. I live in West Paterson, NJ.
Also if you could, I would be very appreciative if you would list the buses I could take. Oh yea, I want to get to the campus by like 6:45am and by 7:45am.

Travel Geek answers:

You should check out Trip123′s transit trip planner as it plans a trip from any origin address in the NYC metro area to a destination address with arrival and leave times. Good luck in school!

Carol asks…

Strollers and Trains (New York and New Jersey People)?

We are heading from NJ into NYC with our son and are planning on taking a stroller (for a variety of reasons I won’t get into on here) We are going via NJ Transit and was wondering if we can just push the stroller onto the train or if we have to take our son out and fold up the stroller and stow it.

Thanks!

Travel Geek answers:

i use to take my niece on the nj train to ny all the time.. and on the ny to ct.
i have always taken her stroller and never once had to take her out of it and stow it… its been a year since i have been on so not sure if thing have changed. just call them up and see what they say.. but my guess is they prob still allow it

Your questions about cheap hotels

Maria asks…

What are good/cheap hotels to stay for New Years in Toronto?

I’m looking for a good hotel to stay at for new years night (dec. 31-jan1). for 2 people, and I want it to be
cheap(er) (max $200, hopefully like 100-150)
close to nathan phillips square (walking distance)
not garbage

Travel Geek answers:

Sheraton Center. I would book through Hotwire.com, it is the best way to get a cheap hotel in Toronto.

Laura asks…

Any good tips on cheap hotels / hostels in Saint Teresa?

Be in Costa Rica up to 30 days & want to Base out of Saint. Teresa or
Samara. Need a decsent cheap hotel/Cabina/ or HOSTEL. Found. Some Ostels
For $12-$15 Dorm $20 private room. Any other good tips?

Travel Geek answers:

Yes, if you want to stay in Samara, I’ve used vrbo, they have great options for getting cheap rooms or rental houses to yourself for good prices. Some of them are pricey, but other are reasonably priced for a weeks stay. Here’s the options near Samara:

http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/central-america/costa-rica/guanacaste#a729

Also, I’ve used this tool to checkout everything nearby santa teresa before I visited:

http://www.costaricabeauty.com/ViewMap.aspx?lt=9.647292421496205&lo=-85.10533332824707&BID=124

It shows everything nearby when search 5 or 15 miles. I stayed in a hotel in nearby moctezuma when I was over there for around $30 a night. The price you mentioned is going to be hard to beat. Santa Teresa can be a little expensive.

Charles asks…

in next may 2008, v have trip to trivendurm, i need some names of cheap hotels (must b clean) with its rate. It is preferable to b near railway station. and wht r ther places to be visited in trivendrum in one day?

Travel Geek answers:

I strongly recommend a simply issue-oriented site.
I’m pretty sure you can find what you need.
http://www.digcent.net

Sharon asks…

what are some good cheap hotels in san diego?

I will be going to san diego a few times this summer. I wanted to know what are some good priced hotels, that are not slums?

Travel Geek answers:

Try the Kings Inn located on hotel Circle, decently priced, not a slum, has a pool and hot tub, very conveinient location, close to everything and has a couple restaurants in the hotel as well. Don’t forget…try different websites, many will feature the same hotel for different prices so you really have to look. Don’t always go to the hotel site itself as they will usually charge you more than a travel website.

Betty asks…

Cheap hotels close to the LG Arena, Birmingham?

I am going to watch something in the LG Arena in October and want to stay over on either the 6th or 7th of October for one night with one other person.

Do you know any hotels close and cheap?
Thank you!

Travel Geek answers:

there is an etap hotel at the airport, which is next to the LG arena. It is only £29 a night for a room, but the accommodation is very basic. but if all you want is a clean bed for the night it is fine.

Your questions about cheap car insurance

Thomas asks…

UK: Are there any other cheap car insurance companies besides Tesco?

I am sick of Tesco, but they seem to be substantially cheaper than any where else!

Travel Geek answers:

There is only one way of finding the best deal and it is a tried and tested method from a well known TV and radio guest who has an independent money saving expert website. The site sells nothing just gives advice –
Get quotes from at least 4 different comparison sites – none deal with all of the possible 200 ish insurers so do this to cover them
Get quotes from Aviva and Direct Line as they are on none of the comparison sites
Do not believe what they say when they reckon the best deals are on the net – its just wrong.
Now use the best 2 or 3 quotes to get on the phone and haggle.

William asks…

Should i get insurance for my first car? Where can i get CHEAP car insurance? I live in Aus.?

Should i get insurance for my first car? Where can i get CHEAP car insurance? I live in Aus.
I am looking at buying a s13 non turbo at 11k. when i looked for a quote the minimum was like 5k which i do not have the money seeing as i am going to have to get a loan for my car.

Travel Geek answers:

um if u cannot afford the insurance then u should get a different car …..that is the only way it will b cheaper insurance……

also the only way to get a price is to get a quote……call or go to insurance companies and get quotes…..usually u get better rates if u go in person and dress nice and speak intelligently…….weird huh?

Ruth asks…

Is there a way to get “fake” or extremely cheap car insurance?

I don’t care about the service. I want it cheap.

Travel Geek answers:

if you own a laser printer and Microsoft Word it’s easy to make a fake insurance card, but what about when you get into an accident?

Daniel asks…

I need cheap car insurance in New York City?

I need cheap (FULL) coverage for a financed vehicle in the NEw York Area…I’ve tried the popular sites…any leads?

Travel Geek answers:

The insurance company will look at your level of education, your income level, your occupation, and the zip code where you garage the vehicle regularly.

They will also ask about the daily miles, one way, that you commute, and the annual mileage you put on the vehicle.

Caller A answers she is a high school dropout making $18,000 a year working in a burger joint., She garages her car in the highest crime area of the city, and drives 100 miles each way every day. Her annual mileage is 45,000 miles.

Caller A is quoted $1256/year.

Caller B answers she is a college graduate making $78,000 a year working in a university library., She garages her car in the lowest crime area of the city, and drives 10 miles each way every day. Her annual mileage is 7,500 miles.

Caller B is quoted $350/year.

Of course, I’m not encouraging you to embellish…

Ken asks…

Your questions about train fares

Ken asks…

Japanese train fares?

How much would it cost for round trip from Tokyo to Aomori? Would I need to fill out any special papers or anything specific?

Travel Geek answers:

If you are only making one long distance train trip in Japan then it isn’t too expensive (about $180 one way to Aomori) Overnight buses are cheaper and you save on a bed.More than this get a JR Pass before you leave home , they come as 7 day, 14 day and 21 day passes.Your initial purchase at home will be an exchange paper, which you redeem in the railway JR Ticket office(the seller of the ticket will supply this info).Just reserve a seat( costs nothing for a pass holder) be on time at the platform as trains are on time ,don’t be afraid to ask a stranger for help or a japanese railway worker.Beware of going in Golden Week , from memory 3/4/5&6 may this year)everything is booked out early as it seems like all of Japan has their one week holiday then.

Betty asks…

How much does it cost for a train fare if you have a 16+ Photo Oyster card?

i am confused about what the charges are if you have a 16+ Photo oyster card, to travel by train. Also does it take away money every time you use it i.e if you have to go to 4 stations in one day etc.

Travel Geek answers:

Where are you taking the train from and to? All I see is that you want to take a train. You don’t say what country or city you are in at all.

Mary asks…

Is it possible to ride a train from Singapore to Thailand and do I have to have a visa?

How much is the train fare and how many minutes before I get there.

Travel Geek answers:

If your on the train I think you have 7 days to transit without a visa,

It is suggested that if you buy and pick up your ticket in Singapore it will be twice as much as getting it from Kuala Lumpur. The suggestion is to purchase your ticket from Sinagpore to KL in Singapore and pick up the rest in KL.
All long-distance trains in Malaysia are ‘reservation compulsory’,
Reservations open 60 days before departure. The Singapore to Bangkok journey is ticketed as two or three separate journeys, Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth, and Butterworth to Bangkok, or possibly Singapore to Butterworth, Butterworth to Bangkok, depending on how you want to do it. Each ticket will have the travel date, train number, and your seat or berth number printed on it.
See how to buy tickets

AS for pricing it depend on the accommodations
but I’ll try to give you some prices and approximate train timelines. The prices are going the top class available and would be cheaper if you downgraded classes.

Singapore to Kuala Lumpur 5 hours
130 ringgits ($38.00)
1st Class Sleeper Cabin

Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth 9 hours
85 Ringgits ($25.00)
Premier class lower

Butterworth to Hat Yai 4 hours
25 ringgits ($7.50)
2nd class

Hat Yai to Bangkok 17 hours
1500 Baht ($45.00)
1st Class Sleeper Cabin

Here is the time table and pictures of the classes of trains. There are day express trains and nighttime sleeper trains.

Robert asks…

Is it possible to ride a train from Singapore to Malaysia and do I have to have a visa?

How much is the train fare and how many minutes before I get there.

Travel Geek answers:

I don’t know about the Visa requirement, but depending on how luxuriously you like to travel, your train fare can be as little as $5.00 or as much as $27.00 or thereabouts. Travel time should be under two hours.

That’s assuming your destination is Johor. Central Kuala Lumpur of course, would take longer and maybe cost more. You can check out the pricing and schedules here:

James asks…

what is the Sunday train fare from Heathrow terminal 1 to Hove?

I have checked the rail website but it keeps getting stuck in a loop, with no reply.

I’ll be traveling with only one small bag.
Thank you!

Travel Geek answers:

26.50 single
from Heathrow termals 1, 2 and 3 station. which you would need to get to London via Heathrow connect or London underground to get to Victoria or London bridge to get the train to Brighton or if your lucky directly to hove.

First stations named for London Underground WiFi launch

Customers will soon be able to connect to the internet at Tube stations across the Capital.

Oxford Circus, Stratford and King’s Cross among stations WiFi enabled for free this summer
Service on track for up to 120 stations connected by end of 2012

London Underground and Virgin Media have named the first London Underground stations that will be WiFi enabled for free this summer.

Stations including Oxford Circus, Stratford, Liverpool Street, Leicester Square and King’s Cross will be among the first to launch, with around 80 stations WiFi enabled by the end of July.
Free service for passengers

With the eyes of the world on London this summer, Virgin Media’s next generation WiFi service will be made available to all Tube passengers for free throughout the summer.

Millions of commuters and visitors to London will be able to get online at Tube stations and find their way around the Capital with up-to-the-minute TfL travel information, access social media while they wait for their next train on the station platform or browse the web to discover the very best London has to offer this summer.

Gareth Powell, London Underground’s Director of Strategy and Service Development, said: ‘Our customers will soon be able to connect to the internet for live travel information while they are on the move through stations.

‘Bringing a next generation WiFi service to one of the world’s oldest underground transport networks is progressing as planned and the forthcoming service is testing well.

‘The first stations include some of our busiest and most well-known destinations and we’re on-track for a successful launch this summer – all delivered at no additional cost to fare payers or tax payers.’
Testing taking place

Jon James, Executive Director of Broadband at Virgin Media, said: ‘In partnership with TfL, we’ve been working around-the-clock to install and test WiFi on London Underground and are about to connect some iconic and world famous Tube stations with a WiFi service London will be proud of.’

Virgin Media and London Underground engineers continue to test and prepare the forthcoming WiFi service, including recent capacity testing at Chancery Lane underground station where hundreds of devices were connected to the station’s WiFi service at exactly the same time to reproduce the service experience of a busy Tube train arriving at the station.

The new free online portal will offer up-to-the-minute TfL service information including TfL’s journey planner and entertainment and news content useful for a commute to work or trip into town.

Try this. May be helpful.

Charles asks…

Where can I buy cheap airline tickets (on internet) for flights into the UK from Bangkok?

I have tried all the usual outlets (expedia, cheapflights etc) but all the discounted tickets are for flights from the uk. Maybe anyone might know of a Thai based travel agent?

Travel Geek answers:

Try Kayak.com. They pull flights from over 100+ travel websites. Not only that, my experience with them is I can always find a flight with low fare from them. I just did a quick search on flights from Bangkok to London (don’t know if you are going to London), there are over 300 results.

Betty asks…

Ive been looking for a flight to Naples, IT for a while now and cant find anything cheaper than 1400. Im trying to leave next week and come back around the 14th of august.

Travel Geek answers:

Where? Naples, FL; Naples, CA; or Naples, Italy. I really think you screwed up thinking you can get 1400 or under and it’s a week away, flights like this should be booked 3 months in advance. Just Assuming you’re going with Italy on Travelocity you can find flights from June 30-August 14 for 1110

Lisa asks…

Where can i get cheap airline tickets from DFW airport to mexico city?

i need 1 plane ticket from the DFW airport to Mexico City but i really don’t have that much money so if someone can help me find some cheap ones that would be great. i need them for the dates April 11 or 14

Travel Geek answers:

It is worth visiting more than one site.

I got cheapest prices ranging from 150$ to 200$. Prices of non stop flights are not the same as those of 1 stop flights. Most airlines do not make significant difference between 11 or 14 April.

I checked it with the sites listed in the link below

Ruth asks…

How do I get cheap airline tickets?

Seattle to New York. Sometime at the end of Sept.
2-3 tickets needed. I want to pay $200-$250 max!

Please help!

Travel Geek answers:

I would look at JetBlue, Virgin America and visit http://www.kayak.com. I suggest you hurry because the longer you wait, the higher the ticket price will be.
