As with a lot of procedures and treatments, Botox was
originally developed for another purpose and has since been found
to be incredibly effective as a cosmetic treatment. About thirty
years ago Botox was introduced as a treatment for twitching eyes
and crossed eyes, and to help cerebral palsy patients. Back in
2002,
Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA for use by
dermatologists to treat wrinkles in the forehead. A skilled
dermatologist is able to do this by expertly determining the
correct injection points to disable the nerves in the forehead as
well as between and around the eyes.
Understanding the cost associated with Botox
In order to figure out how much you should be paying, its important
to know what the costs associated are. First, Allergan, the maker
of Botox Cosmetic, charges the doctor or spa about $505.00 per vial
(100 units). Any Clinic or spa has to also include the cost of the
consultation, the attending physician or nurse, the overhead
associated and so on. If you see Botox advertised for $99 per area,
or less than $6 per unit, you really should be cautious about what
kind of treatment you're actually going to get. It's much more
common to pay in the realm of $10-15 per unit, and most reputable
places will charge by the unit and not by the area. Some patients
might take about $350 to do mild to moderate wrinkles around the
forehead, while others with more sever wrinkling could easily be in
the $500-$800 range.
Choosing your Botox doctor or medical assistant
This is probably the most important decision you are going to make.
Unfortunately, it is really hard to know just how much experience
the person who will be injecting you has, unless you ask questions,
and lots of them. A consultation is key, and you need to ask about
experience, number of years administering Botox, and ask to see
some before and after pictures.
The unfortunate truth about Botox spas, and even some medical
clinics, is that the attending doctor or nurse may have only
attending a weekend course in Botox to get certified. Maybe that
particular person hasn't done more than a few treatments, and maybe
they just don't possess an intimate knowledge of facial musculature
and the associated nerves. In order to get the results you desire,
and achieve the 'expression' that will best suit your face, you
need to have complete confidence in your doctor or medical
assistance. Ultimately, the difference of a few hundred bucks won't
matter to you if you don't like how you look.
What follows are a few bullet points regarding Botox and things you
should be aware of:
1. Bargain shopping for Botox = bad idea! In order to offer Botox
for less, some unscrupulous places may dilute their Botox mixture
with more Saline than is necessary in order to stretch the mixture.
For you, this means your treatment will give less than perfect
results and won't last as long.
2. Watch out for places that advertise Botox by the area. For
example: $199 for frown lines and between the eyes. In order to
make a profit, unscrupulous places may simply space out the
injection points in order to cover all the areas. Again, you won't
be happy saving money of the treatment doesn't work! Let a skilled
injector decide how many units are required to get the results you
are after.
3. Disclose any and all medications you are on before your
treatment.
4. Do not take alcohol before your treatment.
5. Don't lie down for four 3-4 hours after your treatment.
6. Don't rub your face after your treatment.
7. Ask and make sure you are receiving Botox Cosmetic (Botulinum
toxin A that is FDA approved for cosmetic use) and not another,
lesser or inappropriate toxin. Dysport is another increasingly
popular Botox equivalent, but make sure you know 'why' you are
being sold Dysport over Botox, and don't be sold merely on the fact
that it may be slightly less expensive.
8. If you want to get the best results and avoid getting
unsatisfactory results, consult an experienced doctor at a leading
Beverly Hills Botox clinic.

A new method to treat acne is becoming tried by Girish S.
Munavalli, MD, health care director,
Dermatology, Laser, and Vein Experts of the
Carolinas, Charlotte, N.C.; teacher, Johns Hopkins College,
Baltimore. This method combines utilization of suction with a
vacuum system and light. Based on Munavalli the preliminary trials
are promising. A review which was carried out on 15 sufferers with
severe acne it was discovered that significant enhancement was
noticed right after two to three weeks of therapy.
Photo pneumatic Therapy-
Within this treatment light remedy is combined with skin suction.
Skin suction is done making use of a vacuum system and it is
anticipated to support opening the clogged pores. Suction may
possibly also help by bringing the oil glands nearer towards the
skin and make light far more successful. Light and laser therapy is
becoming attempted by several dermatologists to deal with acne. In
Picture pneumatic Therapy suction is surely an addition. Basically
each are physical treatments to treat acne.
Allow us speak about light therapy which is used for last few a
long time. Blue Light, Green-Yellow Light and Warmth Power and
Diode Laser are becoming used to treat acne. A few of these lights
destroy the bacteria P. acnes and reduce the infection although
others destroy the sebaceous glands and cease the sebum
creation.
1. Blue light destroys the infection causing bacteria P.acnes and
lessens inflammation. Blue light is free of charge of ultra violet
and therefore safe to make use of.
2. Pulses of light and heat are also used to treat acne. This is
called LHE. LHE destroys the infecting bacteria-P.acnes and,
shrinks the sebaceous glands.
3. Diode Laser is used to destroy the sebaceous glands. It doesn't
harm the outer layer of your skin.
All these treatments scan cause temporary unwanted effects
including redness, swelling etc. The methods are performed at
doctor's workplace at set intervals of days. Suction is now being

The process involved in becoming a
dermatologist is going to require a fairly drawn out
educational road. This means that you can expect a learning
experience that will last a lifetime. Most students who decide to
become dermatologists begin the process with a Bachelor of Science
degree. These students will enter into medical school from that
point. However, students who have earned Bachelor of Arts degrees
may still be able to get into medical school. These students,
however, must be willing to put a little bit of extra effort into
the application process.
Have you decided to enter into the field of Dermatology?
Before you consider entering into medical school, you should get as
much experience as you can working with people who need help.
Volunteer your time in a hospital, a community center or in a
nursing home. You will learn more about becoming a caring doctor
here than in school.
The Dermatologist's High School Career
If you are still in high school when you decide to become a
dermatologist, you can steer your career in the right direction.
Take advantage of the opportunity to get an early start in the math
and science areas of your education while you can. Choose your
medical school early, and find out about their admission
requirements. You may not be required to get a bachelor's degree
before entering into medical school. You may only need two years of
undergraduate work in order to be accepted.
Medical School for Dermatology
The next step in the process is to enter in to medical school.
Medical school for dermatology lasts on average four years.
Graduation from an approved and accredited medical school will give
you an MD title. MD is the standard title for a Medical Doctor.
Once you complete medical school, your long educational road is not
yet over. You still have a number of additional avenues for
education ahead of you. This is going to include an internship, and
a lengthy period of residency training. In terms of admission, no
residency is more competitive than dermatology.
Post Medical School
Your next step is going to be another five years of work in the
dermatology department of a university college. Three of these
years will be spent as a resident, which is an important part of
your education. You will also spend some time in an internship in
one of a variety of different niche medical fields. This training
is going to focus on the nails, hair, skin and mucus membranes.
When you complete the qualifying license examinations, you will be
properly licensed to practice medicine. It is required for you to
obtain the proper license by the licensing authority in your
region.
The Future of Your Dermatology Career
It is actually fairly easy for dermatologists to change dogs, learn
new skills or adopt new patients. Dermatologists can work
specifically as surgeons, or hospital administrators, or they can
direct research. Dermatologists can also become medical school
administrators, or can teach in medical schools. There are a myriad
of different professions that a licensed Dermatologist can go into.
The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to using a
medical degree to find the career of your dreams. Regardless of
whether you want to write in medical journals or treat patients
hands on in clinics, there is a dream job for you in
Dermatology.

I am
Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a hardy bacillus that
has been on this planet so long now, that I'm actually older than
the human species itself. I mean I could bore you and tell you I've
seen it all, about way back in history when the green lands of
Africa were still joined to Antarctica and was called Gondwanaland,
but I'll not! Just suffice to say that the first recorded European
consumer lived in the beautiful Altstadt of Heidelberg about seven
thousand years ago. That was back in 5,000 BC, long before Bertie
and the Nice Treaty and his recently retrieved skeletal remains
shows he was a true believer in the consumer cause. Around the same
time I was visiting ancient Egypt, fiddling with the dear old
mummy's remains, twisting a spine here and there, sitting out on
the warm hotel terrace above the Nile, hanging around waiting on
the pyramid of Cheops to be built. And as the saffron sun set over
the city of Cairo for the thousandth time, I legged it to India and
destroyed the intricate caste system for a few thousand years. Then
came the Greeks and Romans, good coughers one and all, except may I
say that quack Hippocrates was a bit suspect, a sort of Wagnerian
alter ego. I mean he actually blamed the Scandinavians for
spreading the good cough about. Well yes, I am well known to turn
even my best friends alabaster white but to extrapolate that into
some sort of hereditary tendency, well it's just a liberty, why St.
Bernadette herself would turn in her grave. And I know, because I
was there as she gasped her dying words 'Open my chest and let me
breathe!'
But seasons came and went and in 1784, I parted company with Samuel
Johnson who was somewhat more profound as he coughed his last
words, 'It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. The act of
dying is not of importance, it lasts so short a time'. And then in
October 1820, short of some intellectual conversation, I went to
Rome with John Keats for a holiday. Despite the rumours back in
England that he wanted to leave me at home, we shared a house at
the foot of the Spanish steps until we parted company on February
23rd 1821 as he died in the arms of his friend Joseph Severn. But
at this stage, I had got a taste for the Mediterranean vitae in the
company of artisans, so in 1838, I left again for my winter
holidays to Majorca. This time it was with Frederic Chopin, who was
anything but discrete and he went around the island coughing so
much that the locals got suspicious and followed him to the old
Carthusain monastery of Valdemosa. Few know, it was here that
Chopin produced some of his best nocturnes, including the
poetically colourful, '24 Preludes op. 28'. But not happy with
doing that, he bribed his way out of the monastery and left on a
passenger ship to Spain, where he haemoptysised upon his fellow
passengers. This young Romanticist who had wrote Polish mazurkas
about chasing peasant girls and hunting partridges, was immediately
put ashore and had to take a pig transporter onwards. The gentile
composer of youthful rondos, polonaises and concertos, the man who
had heralded the coming harmonies of Wagner, reduced to travel with
pigs, just because he kept my company. And when the poor man
eventually reached Paris, fresh with the latest Paco Porcine, it's
little wonder his final words were, 'The earth is suffocating,
swear to make them cut me open, so I won't be buried alive'.
Anyway, I'll tell you a story about the windswept Yorkshire moors,
for it was there lived the Bronte sisters. And as the winds blew
and the gales howled, the family closed their doors to the outside
world and just delicately coughed over each other. Then as Maria,
Elizabeth and Patrick died in turn, they decided they might as well
keep their silence. When Anne finally died her parting sentence was
meant to strengthen her one surviving sibling 'Take courage,
Charlotte, take courage!'
Charlotte, the most prolific writer of the family, got married
before she died and her death certificate was recorded as
'phthisis' the Greek word for the consumption. In fact Hippocrates
used the term, but as he is in the doghouse for giving the Swedes a
bad name, I will not extrapolate. Then in 1882, Robert Koch, a
country doctor from the Rhineland, tried to convince everybody that
the wriggling red microbes that he observed under his microscope
were the cause of consumption and that I was readily identifiable
with a crimson stain. His giggling colleagues put his theories of
socialist bugs to rest and one year later, Sir Walter Scott fell
for my charms. Four years later, Doc Holliday went to Glenwood
Springs to see if the sulphur vapours would improve his cough, but
he was too far gone and on November 8, 1887, he asked for a glass
of whiskey. Then he said, "This is funny", and died. He always
believed that his end would come from lead poisoning, at the end of
a rope, but lost his biggest bet when he died of tuberculosis.
As the decade passed, I befriended Robert Louis Stevenson, but we
eventually went our separate ways near Apia, in the Solomon Isles
in early December 1894. At least you can say I got everybody to go
overseas on holiday no matter how bad the felt
Well the new century came and I watched the burial of Cecil John
Rhodes. By 1902, he had coughed his last and his final train
journey through Africa to the Matopo Hills was a triumphal affair.
Meanwhile, Anton Chekov started coughing up blood and died a few
years later. As the Great War broke out, D. H. Lawrence escaped
conscription because of his chest. In 1924, Prague born writer,
Franz Kafka, lay haemorrhaging from his lungs in a downtown Vienna
hospital. He begged for the doctors to give him a lethal dose of
morphine, and in true Wildean fashion screamed to them, 'Kill me,
or else you are a murderer'. In that same year, over 200, 000
Americans died of the disease, which was more than the total for
heart disease and cancer combined. In 1930, an impoverished D.H.
Lawrence coughed his last in Vence, France and as the years passed,
the Second World War was fought under a different sunset.
During these years I found many friends in Europe and in1943 it was
estimated that I had befriended 100.000 people in the Warsaw
ghettos. A similar number were infected in Americans and by the
Christmas of that year about half that number had paid the ultimate
price. But the tide of life, brought new advances and things were
slowly beginning to turn against me. November 1944, saw the
introduction of streptomycin and an eventual decrease in the number
of people that I bestowed friendship on. In 1990, I was with my old
friend Nelson Mandela as he was released from Robben Island. I
still have a lot of other friends around the world, but I am more
selective these days and tend to only befriend the poor or
immigrants. Presently about eight million people cough themselves
daily into another sunset, of which about three million will not
see the coming fall.
