I bought this to replace an old Braun razor that I liked, but the trimmer broke, so I thought I would try a different brand. The Panasonic had some good reviews and the ads were compelling. I found that it gave a much poorer shave and had many design flaws.
Pros:
-Quiet to operate compared to many electric razors
-Cleaning system is a nice feature, though not really necessary
Cons:
-The center cutters are part of the shaver head and not replaced when you replace the regular foil and cutters
-The shaving surface is much narrower than the plastic head, so you can't get very close to "obstacles" like ears and noses
-The shaver is underpowered and slows down with a heavy beard, and hence takes much longer to fully shave
-The shaver just doesn't shave closely and misses hairs. It has no where near the speed and closeness of my older Braun, or even
an old Remington I used before the Braun.(but the Remington was LOUD)
-In addition to it being a poor performing razor, it has one really, really, irritating feature... It has a blinking LED light
on it that blinks when you place the razor in the cleaning/charging station. This is as bright as if you had a neon sign right outside your window... "EAT AT JOE's..... EAT AT JOE's....", completely absurd design.
-I find the flexible head to be unnecessary, and the angled surfaced to be bothersome (to the point where I sometimes found
it easier to shave holding the razor upside down.)
Summary: Keep looking, this is not an electric razor you will be happy with. (p.s. I did buy a new Braun 790, and it is quite similar to the old Braun, it gives an excellent, fast and close shave, is quiet, has the cleaning station, but it does not appear they have improved the trimmer, so be careful using the trimmer, there is a weakness in the elbow where it flips open and closed)

(More customer reviews)Over the years I have tried many electric shavers from Braun, Philips/Norelco, Panasonic and others. It would always come down to the same thing:
- you have to go over the same spot multiple times to get it smooth and in the process of doing so the skin becomes red / inflamed. Wearing a shirt with a collar afterwards is torture let alone wearing a tie!!!!
- I then had to use all kinds of soothening lotions to get the skin to cool down and could not shave for several days
- hairs would become ingrown and infect under the skin after a while
- the electric shaved would never really get clean and clog up, more so the sink looked discussing after cleaning
Result: I'd run back to the latest in manual wet shaving under the shower: Mach III or Fusion etc.
I purchased this because of the airline security rules re liquids etc on board. Every time I would have to hand over my foam and lotions and in some cases even my aftershave.
So I read up on what electric shavers would work to remedy all the above. The Braun and Panasonic come close and I decided on the Panasonic ES8228S (recolored version of the ES8109S, otherwise mechanically identical). The reason I did not take the Braun is that I like the shaving under the shower, in front of my fog free mirror.
My skin has fully adapted and I certainly do not have the inflamed skin -rash I had with other brands. With Lectric Shave it is actually similar in feeling to a wetshave and I really feel just as closely shaved. I have a heavy heavy beard growth and believed on hand wet shave could remedy but that is not true!
Secondly, it shaves close. People say as close as a wetshave and I tend to agree that it comes VERY close to that. I have shaved against the growth direction with wet shavers all my life (otherwise I can't get anything smooth) and this can NEVER be accomplished with an electric shaver, I think, however, this can shave you smooth but probably not as "deep" under the skin line as a wet shave would. Close enough NEVER to want to go back to a regular wet shave.
However, the shave is very close and close enough to look as smooth (but not feel) as a through close wet shave.
The shaver works under the shower and that is bliss. I can combine my shower routine with a shave, like I am used to! Love that. Also, when using cheap shaving foam it works great as well. Not that the shave is closer but it helps my skin and a smooth glide. Especially combined with a short Lectric Shave spray before hitting the showers I can get myself baby smooth.
Finally, the cleaning station is a very hygienic method of cleaning. No tiny hairs in the foils or sink, definitely a welcome addition. The cartridges are also VERY affordable and last about 3 months a piece. Worth it!
Also note that this shaver works in 110v to 220v outlets and you can simply plug the electric cord from the cleaning unit in the back of the shaver when travelling.
Conslusion:
not as perfect as people state but certainly very close to a wet shave (but not fully there).
Final thought: this is indeed a 'pretty' version of the ES8109S which you can get for around 100$. The 60$ extra I paid is for the wood and gold trim.
UPDATE: the hair trimmer / clippers on these tend to die over time. Mine did on the ES8228 and subsequently on a new ES8109. Even on my wifes 8077 (for her legs!) it happened. Bad clipper = minus 1 star.

I started to shave and to my surprise, I got a closer and better shave. After my first shave, I was sold on Eltron. Now you only use two or three drops, per shave. Trust me, thats all you need. Another perk with Eltron, is that a 4 ounce bottle lasts about a year. So last holiday season I purchased a 6-pack from Amazon, which cut the price down to around $2.50 per bottle. I used them as stocking stuffers and gifts for my best friends. Yes, I kept a couple of bottles for myself. Believe me, once you start using Eltron, you too will buy the 6-pack!

The sole was more rugged and the ridges on the bottom provided some traction. The shoe was made for a woman's foot, so it stayed on securely and covered most of my foot (protection). I wish they would provide a choice of colors so that it could match the regular shoe that I wore on the other foot (i.e. a dark brown version).

The shaver provided a very comfortable shave the very first time I used it. Unlike some electric shavers, I did not feel pinching or pulling on my hair during shaving and my skin did not feel irritated after the shave.
- Holding the Shaver -
The shaver is fairly lightweight. I only have one complaint: The rubber ridges on the sides of the shaver are supposed to help you maintain a firm grip on the shaver but the rubber feels more like hard plastic, which makes holding the shaver a little uncomfortable.

- Rotary Shaver -
The Remington R-7130 gives a very close shave. In fact, it does as good a job as my Braun Series 7- 790cc (9595) Pulsonic Shaver shaver, which costs considerably more. I was unable to see or feel any stuble after a shave. The shaver also did not leave any patches of hair, which is a problem a lot of rotary-type shavers are reputed to have.
- Pop-up Trimmer -
The pop-up trimmer does as good a job as the best dedicated trimmer you can find out there! The width of the trimmer is "full-sized", and not scaled down like it is on my Braun. It was delightfully quick and easy to trim my sideburns to keep them looking kempt. The shaving compartment is deactivated while the pop-up trimmer is in use so the shaver won't inadvertently take off any hair, which is a problem I have with my Braun.>> Ease of cleaning
Cleaning is easy: The hinged comparment holding the rotary blades pops right open and you can rinse the blades under running water.>> Looks
Despite the shaver being constructed almost entirely of plastic, it looks rather elegant and sophisticated. The shaver does not come with a charging stand, so the front and back plastic might incur some unsightly wear over time if you're not careful to lay it on either of its rubberized sides after use.>> The Verdict
Personally, I really prefer a foil-type over a rotary-type shaver because I find that I'm able finish the job much more quickly with the former - but that's only because I lack practice with a rotary-type shaver. With that said, I will not penalize the Remington R-7130 Rotary Shaver based on my personal bias. In fact, I am very impressed with the outstanding shave/trim the Remington R-7130 Rotary Shaver delivers -- it definitely deserves five stars!

I do not use it everyday but am very happy to have it for a quick touch-up etc. Often if I am rushed in the morning and don't take time for a "wet shave", I'll take it with me and shave in the car on the way to work or where ever. It does not give me razor burn although shaves very close. It is easy to clean and the battery lasts a long time. The small profile of the head makes it easy to shave under the nose. It likely would be a fine razor for eveyday use.
It's a good product and I recommend it.

(More customer reviews)The Norelco Arcitec 1060X doesn't shave very closely. Even after three or four passes over your face, you won't come close to a shave with a regular razor. It doesn't cut the fine hairs on my face at all. The trimmer is located so close to the shaving heads that you can't use it. You have to lift each of the three heads to clean the razor, then push all three heads down again. The razor makes a lot of noise while on. I paid premium dollars for this razor, and although it looks very stylish, it performs so poorly that it's the worst electronic purchase I've ever made. Buy any razor but this one.

(More customer reviews)I have had this razor now for eight months. At first I thought it was the most amazing razor I ever had. Now however I consider it a good but nothing special razor. I was initially impressed by how smooth the shave was both wet and dry and the fact that Theit seemed to control my neck hairs. But to my dismay after only 6 1/2 months the shave quality began to deteriorate. My neck hairs were no longer being cut. I had to purchase a new foil and cutter's for $65 (a very high price considering how I paid 100 for the machine). Now I have a good shave again but I think the price is too high. I will go another round with the new blades, but I think at the end I will go back to Norelco. In fact as I amadding this I did go back to Norelcobecause it broke after eight months and panasonic replaced with a refurbished one

I can never get the same reading twice, and I never know which one to believe. I have taken my own temperature to test it, and it often says I have a 101+ when I feel fine. This thermometer truly does not work properly; it seems to just throw out a random number every time you push the button. It's a complete waste of money.

(More customer reviews)Before I started using Afta, I was using Skin Bracer and also William's 'Lectric (original). I was unhappy with both of these products because putting them on was basically the same as putting on a handful of oil on your face. These products are so greasy and sticky=--they are absolutely disgusting--the Williams is especially greasy. In addition I had often noticed that after using the Skin Bracer product my face often burned after shaving, and if I put on after shave it burned even more!!!
One day I was in the supermarket and saw the Afta product and thinking that it couldn't be any worse than the other products i had tried i picked it up-I have never gone back since.
Afta is a nice soothing cream--it is not in the slightest greasy or oily. It has a nice smell and in addition it conditions and smoothens the skin. Razor burn is never a problem with this product.In addition the cream does not clog up the razor like an excessively oily product can. It provides a very close shave--I definitely see and feel the difference when I shave without using it. The only reason why i gave it 4 stars is because as someone else mentioned the smell on the original formula (green label) can be a bit overwhelming---try the blue label afta (i think its called Mountain Fresh or Mountain Breeze)for a more subtle and gentler aroma.
I have been told that William's Lectric now produces a pre-lectric gel for those that disliked its original formula and prefer the Afta cream. Supposedly the new William's gel is better than Afta, but since I still haven't been able to locate it in my local area i haven't been able to do a comparison.

(More customer reviews)Years ago, I read a French feminist writer who asked: "Why aren't women allowed to keep their natural body hair, as men are?" Now, after many years of shaving, plucking, using depilatories, etc., I wonder if maybe our (slightly) hairy French sisters know something we don't.
But I digress.
I tried out (with some trepidation) the various attachments on this grooming system yesterday. (I strongly encourage anyone who is using it to CAREFULLY FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.)
Here's what I found:
--The unit takes almost the full ten hours (stated in the instructions) to charge. Once charged, you have the option of cordless grooming.
--The eyebrow trimmer gives a nice, neat trim. Truthfully, my brows are sort of well-shaped and tame to begin with, but for those with unruly brows, this might be just what's needed for a neater look.
--The micro trimmer does a nice job with that peach-fuzzy stuff between the eyebrows, and can also be used to contour the brows. (Be CAREFUL! It removes EVERY hair it touches.)
--The micro shaver cleanly removes stubble along the bikini line, and it's painless.
--The epilator. Ouch. Ladies, this hurts, period. The instructions say you'll experience "discomfort" that will "lessen with subsequent uses." (I doubt it.)
The ouch factor of the epilator kept me from giving this appliance 5 stars. That, and the fact that though I'm well groomed, I'm not so compulsive about hair-removal that I'd use all the attachments.
For example, I didn't use the precision comb to "style" the bikini line. As in (from the instructions) a "template in a heart-shape." However, for those who are into this kind of personal style, you have the tool you need with this device.
The final item included with this system is Bliss body butter. This smelled good, was non-greasy, and left a smooth finish to the skin.
So that's how it worked for me, ladies. Bikini season is almost here, so if you're looking for a good four-star hair removal system, I think this is it. If you don't mind a considerable ouch factor, then you've got a five-star product.
