Before you head to the slopes to test out the snowboarding lessons you have learnt it is important to make sure that your snowboards edges are pristine. In fact while you're in the learning process having good sharp edges will speed up your progression time on the snow. Head to your local snowboard workshop and get the technician to prepare your snowboard edges for you. Chat to the technician about what they did so you can learn too and then you'll be able to do it for yourself at home, so long as you have the right equipment.A good technician will have given you a 1° bevelled edge and detuned around the nose and tail. If you look down the edges you should see no burrs or chunks, just a nice smooth edge. This is what it should like if you did it yourself as well. A good snowboard workshop will pride itself on its tuning skills and always seeks customer satisfaction; if you're not happy let them know so they can improve. With your edges nice and sharp you will find your snowboarding lessons a lot easier, you'll be able to cut into the snow better, hold your edge smoother and be able to maintain balance through your turns. When it finally comes time to shred some powder, you'll thank me, your workshop technician and yourself for keeping your edges up to scratch. For great snowboarding lessons and your best opportunity to learn to skills needed to master snowboarding. Switch-stance snowboarding can be a lot of
fun. A good set of snowboarding lessons will
have you riding in the opposite stance quickly and you'll feel
completely natural (or goofy!) with your new way of riding. Once
you've learnt to carve backwards and can make it to hits without
losing any speed you can start trying all the tricks you've
learnt forwards backwards. Pretty soon your repertoire of
snowboarding tricks will have doubled. It is important to
remember that fakie and switch are two different things.
Switch-stance is when you ride exactly like you were opposite
footed, fakie riding you still operate the snowboard with your
normal lead foot. Switch-stance snowboarding is a state of mind.

If you've just started out snowboarding, or
been riding for a while and haven't taken snowboarding
lessons then you probably won't be linking turns
correctly. I see lots of snowboarders heaving their back foot
around on the piste in an effort to get their boards to swing
around as quickly as possible and aim themselves in the direction
they want to go, and more often than not, usually when swinging
to the heelside, they'll catch an edge and eat snow!Back foot
swinging uses a lot of energy to counter-act the forces already
in motion when you're in a turn. You will tire faster using this
in-correct technique and then spend less time on the snow, which
means you will progress slower. Back foot swinging is for
spraying your friends, or punters, with snow and should be done
smoothly and at high speed.Linking turns uses completely
different techniques and is best learnt via snowboarding
lessons, but these simple tips will help correct one of the
major mistakes most snowboarders make when they're riding. The
first thing is making sure you have the correct balance techniques. When approaching
your turns keep this in mind "70% front foot, 30% back
foot". In snowboarding, turns are initiated by placing
most of your weight over the nose, letting the snowboard fall
downhill, and following it through with even pressure along the
inside edge. Don't freak out when you're pointed directly down
hill and the gravity-induced acceleration kicks in, stay forward
and keep pressure on the inside edge and the snowboard will turn
through and you'll gradually slow down. By up-weighting or
down-weighting with your back foot, you will be able to control
your speed though the turn. Keep your shoulders facing the
direction the snowboard is going and as you complete the first
turn stand up flat so that you ready to initiate the next turn on
the opposite side. For more snowboarding lessons
