It was easy to install myself. It is suppose to last at least 3 years, so I can't say if it will or not. It is being used and working now though.

(More customer reviews)This is a handy little translator, except for one glaring problem: There's no search function. It's full of great phrases, but you have to know exactly where to find them to use them. If you're in a situation in which you need to find a phrase quickly, you can't search for it by keyword--or by any other means for that matter. The manual actually says there's a search function, but it seems to be referring to another model. The search function on this particular model is completely missing. Anyway, I had gotten it for my sister who was traveling to China (with no knowledge of the language whatsoever), so we returned it when we realized it simply wasn't practical. The seller was extremely helpful and offered me a refund promptly upon return of the item. We ultimately purchased the more expensive Besta MT-7000, which was a far superior machine that did everything we needed it to do--and it saved my sister more than a few times in China!

(More customer reviews)I purchased a Partner B-3 for Thai from ECTACO. The first model arrived and did not work. The Partner is actually a Franklin EBookman which has to load a proprietary operating system from either the computer using a USB connection or from an MMC. The one I was sent would not load from the MMC. After spending 10 days working with their tech support person, I returned it for a new one. The new one arrived a week later. I tried to work with it, but found it totally unacceptable. The screen is very difficult to read, the documentation is non existent for the desktop module and very limited for the Partner itself, and if you want to run the music option, you have to remove the MMC and install a different one which disables the translation software. In addition, I tired loading 19 MP3 songs and it took over an hour. This was after spending several hours trying to figure out how to do it. They do not use the native MP3 file, but have to translate into some proprietary format so you have to load them through a desktop synchronization program. When loaded, all of the song titles were mixed in with the organizer options. They appeared just like additional organizer tools making it very difficult to find the organizer options. The sound quality for the music was marginal at best.
While there may be work-rounds for some of the above problems, the lack of documentation makes it near impossible to find them. I also note that the eBookman by Franklin, which the Partner B-3 is based on, provides a reference book and help function for the eBookman AND the desktop. The ECTACO does not.
Lastly, after I returned the 1st Partner, they sent me an e-mail offering a significant discount for the Partner B-3. This is apparently unavailable for the one I just received putting me at a significant financial disadvantage.
The bottom line is I was completely dissatisfied with this device and wanted to return it for a refund. They said since I was outside of the 7 day window (it expired while I was working with their tech support trying to get it to load the operating system off of the MMC) they would not refund my purchase price.
Strongly recommend against this product. A real dog!

No matter what I've tried productivity is seriously affected by slow or no response from the mouse. I bought this to replace a wireless set I had that plugged into the mouse and keyword ports. It worked great until I just wore it out.
I wanted the padded keyboard and like the shape of this mouse. If only I could get it to work accurately and consistently.

(More customer reviews)The title says it all - the display is pretty much illegible under day time or night conditions - you can adjust the contrast, but this only helps a little and the best contrast setting varies depending if you use the back light or not, or what the ambient light conditions are. So you have to enter the set up and change the contrast a lot, and it is still hard to read after playing with this adjustment. Worse display ever. Also, no real built in mic, so you either use earphones or hang this "thing" around your neck (the supplied portable speaker). What would be nice is an audible built in speaker so you could hold it up to your ear and hear the phrase pronounced, and then try speaking it yourself. Handwriting recognition was also terrible. I don't know how folks can say this is a good product - I guess its a matter of perspective.

I have just returned from a trip to Europe (London, Paris, Rome, and Florence) where I used the Nuvi 370 extensively and it worked great. First of all, I put a lot of the places I would be going to in the "Favorites" list before I left. The great thing about Nuvi is that it sorts this list based on distance from wherever you happen to be. So I didn't have to scroll through points for Paris or Rome when I was in England and vice versa. Very useful. I also found that the points of interest had all the sightseeing landmarks that I was going to visit and nearly every restaurant that I had earmarked for meals. I also got the translation guide which came in very useful (especially to explain "tap water" at European restaurants, they really want to sell you bottled water and pretend to not understand what tap water means, but showing them in their own language on Nuvi always got the point across). Now here is a report of actual real world use as a pedestrian in Europe.
Pros - It had every street that I walked on without exception. It knew that I could walk the wrong way on one-way streets as a pedestrian (in pedestrian mode). Usually very fast lock on of satellites. Currency converter very useful. Language guide easy to use and very helpful with menus. Learned a few phrases by imitating the voice on the language guide which led to a lot of goodwill in France and Italy. Used it to show addresses to cab drivers which was always helpful. Tracked the taxi rides and could tell when cabbies were way off route and a little protesting got them back on track. Used it to make easy decisions between walking, metro, or cab by routing a destination and seeing how far the walk would be. Nuvi lets you scroll through the route and is pretty accurate as to how long it will take to walk.
Cons - 1. In pedestrian mode, I almost always started walking the wrong way because Nuvi isn't sure which way it is pointed when you are standing still. This is fixed by walking a few feet until you see if you are going the right way, rarely more than 10 feet. 2. It doesn't automatically reroute in pedestrian mode if you get off the selected route, you need to hit "detour" which sometimes leads to a much longer path. 3. Sometimes satellite signal would get lost in the narrow older streets, especially in Italy. Sometimes the display would suddenly indicate that I was walking the exact opposite way that I had been going due to lost or confused signal. But these are all nits and were easily handled.
Overall - The Nuvi 370 worked exactly the way I was hoping it would. If you live in America and plan travel in Europe, I highly recommend the Nuvi 370 and Language Guide.
UPDATE 2ND TRIP TO EUROPE
I recently spent two weeks in Spain where I used the Nuvi in pedestrian mode and drove throughout Southern and Western Spain. The Nuvi worked perfectly except where maps were somewhat out of date. The scariest words in my life now are "Enter roundabout and take second exit to roundabout". At one point we did three consecutive roundabouts! If you are not used to driving in a foreign country, I highly recommend Nuvi 370. The POI's pointed out gas and food when we needed it, and in both pedestrian and driving mode, it got us through many medieval streets with no problems. I again used the language guide(very useful) and was able to figure out what was what on local menus. I find the estimated arrival times in both pedestrian mode and driving mode to be pretty accurate and helpful in decision making. I even used it on the AVE high speed train between Madrid and Cordoba to see how fast we were going (180+ mph). I have now had this for a couple of years and can't live without it.
One of most useful features is the ability to find metro stations nearby when you are in pedestrian mode. Very helpful in Madrid and Barcelona.

Great Value for the money! I found the Garmin 750 easy to set up and easy to use. Operating this unit is intuitive, but complete directions are included. I have yet to "play" with all the features, but it works great while using it for my second job. I have to find a lot of locations in the countryside (a lot of back roads) and the unit has been invaluable! You get one free update with the unit that should be done as soon as you get it to make sure the most recent maps are downloaded. One note of caution - you have to download the most recent version of maps on the Garmin website and you have to do this using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. I found this out when I couldn't download updates using Google Chrome and had to contact Garmin.

Well. I found out why that is. The thing is worthless. One of the keys on it works. ONE. That would be the / key. I even just typed that slash mark in with it. The rest are of no use whatsoever, unless you count the NumLock key turning on a tiny red light on the top.
But it's not even worth the trouble of returning it, as S&H costs are my burden, and shipping this thing out cost a full dollar more than the item itself did.

(More customer reviews)I recently bought this because the cost of a long-term cell contract doesn't make sense for our minimal usage. I know someone well who has used the prepaid AT&T (former Cingular) GoPhone for five years and has no complaints with service or call quality.
The Nokia 2610 handset is simple to use, intuitive, and easy to configure to your liking (I did it all in under an hour.) The volume is fine. Though the handset lacks an external volume-control button, you can configure a navigation key to adjust volume easily without looking at the keypad while talking on the phone. The speakerphone works extremely well; I don't even need a headset or earpiece/mike to talk hands-free with great clarity. The reception in my area (metro DC) is excellent, even inside the house. The keypad is well-designed; the menu and navigation keys are easy to use without pressing adjacent keys. The pad locks automatically after ~ 30 seconds of idleness so you can't accidentally activate features while you're carrying the phone in your pocket. It unlocks easily with the MENU* combination.
Activating the phone via the Web and getting your new phone number is simple, too. If you have an active AT&T SIM card you can just insert it in the Nokia phone and use this handset if you want to retire an existing one and wait until your contract expires (though, of course, you wouldn't buy the prepaid minutes via this particular offer.)
One note... for this $35 Amazon offer you're paying $25 for the airtime card and $10 for the handset. The ten extra minutes airtime are free from AT&T if you buy $25 of mins (using the airtime card you're buying here) within a week of activating the handset. And that's true no matter where you buy the AT&T GoPhone, not just on Amazon. I mention this in case anyone thinks that he's buying $35 of airtime and getting a free handset. When I was shopping for the handset recently it was $20 at local retailers and AT&T stores.
I really don't have any complaints with the phone so far. Other users in online reviews complained about the video contrast making the display unreadable in the sun. This is certainly true in the default setting. However, I set the contrast to max and can read it in bright sun by tilting it a bit. It's not a big deal to me. In fact, all of the user complaints I read about in various reviews could have been avoided if the user simply took the time to run through the menus and configure the phone according to taste.
This phone is very good value, in my opinion, if you just want a simple phone for making calls and if call quality is more important than phone features such as a big screen for Web browsing or anticipatory recognition when typing text messages (I don't text at all.) The option value of being able to terminate the service at any time with no penalty (and almost nothing invested in the handset) is a great benefit.
I did a lot of research before choosing this handset and plan, looking at prepaid handsets and premium handsets tied to 2-yr contracts. The Nokia 2610 has been around for more than two years and gets good marks from many users as a durable, simple phone with high call quality. I've used it a great deal since I bought it. It's very easy to configure and a pleasure to use. I prefer it to nearly all the slide and flip phones I tested.
Four final warnings...
First, don't confuse this handset with the newer Nokia 2600. That one gets far poorer reviews than the older 2610. Reviews noted that the 2600 has a very slow menu interface, feels cheap and has a poor speakerphone. I tested a 2600 set at an AT&T store and agree with that assessment. The 2610 is a far better phone.
Second, once you set up your new AT&T prepaid GoPhone choose your rate plan carefully (two are available: either a flat [标签:Content].25/min OR $1.00 per day used + [标签:Content].10/min.) Once you activate the phone the fine print on the Web site under your user account info tells you that you may change from one plan to the other at any time. The first change is free; thereafter it may (which I assume means WILL) cost you at least $10 (if not more) to change again.
Third, note that the prepaid phones (whether on AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile) have far spottier signal coverage than contract phones do. (This is yet another way they discourage users from buying prepaid service and try to lock us into long-term contracts.) Check the applicable coverage map that the provider offers, especially if you live in the middle sections of the U.S. where providers have huge coverage gaps in certain regions, to ensure you'll get an adequate signal for prepaid service where you'll use the phone.
Finally, the AT&T cellular business has a rather unfavorable customer service reputation according to recent reviews, such as the one in Consumer Reports last January. The convenient thing about the prepaid phones is that you can manage the account entirely online or automatically over the phone, recharging the account with money via credit card whenever you like. You never have to deal with a customer service rep. I haven't factored customer service into my review because I don't anticipate having to use it much. If it's really awful then I have little invested in the phone account and I can terminate my service easily. If, however, you require regular service attention you may want to consider the value of smooth interactions and look elsewhere.

But it is perfect for older people, such as myself, who don't use a cell phone much, yet want to have one "just in case" or for occasional use. Over the past few weeks I have found it to be reliable, it holds a charge a long time, and has pretty good voice quality. It is quite tiny--no need for a folding ("flip") phone. Virgin has increased the number of services it offers: either 25c/minute, and only spend $15/90 days to keep the service active, or else 35c/day for 10c minutes. No roaming or domestic long distance charges. Very few taxes and no extra fees. The service is not cost-effective if you plan to use the phone heavily, but for light use you will not find a less expensive service.
I found a few deficiencies in the phone that keep me from giving it 5 stars. As others have noted, the screen is hard to see when not backlit. Some features are hidden in menus--for example, there is a speakerphone, but just go try to find out how to use it! It isn't described in the manual. (It turns out it is a menu option when you receive or make a call, but if you just look through the menus you won't find it.) The provided ring tones are too funky for me. So I surprised myself by paying for a old-fashioned ring, $2, which actually sounds pretty good.
So if you want a small reliable phone that holds a charge well and has good clear sound, the Shorty is worth a look. Just be sure that the Sprint network (which Virgin uses) is available in your area before buying any Virgin phone, as they have no capability of roaming onto other networks.

My phone does indeed have the "auto shut-off" bug. It didn't bite me for several weeks, but it has happened to me several times over the past few months. The phone shuts itself off despite having plenty of power left in the battery. The remedy, as others have reported, is to take the battery out for a second. When reinserted, the phone acts fine again. It doesn't happen to me very often, but it does happen. Since it happens so rarely, perhaps once every few weeks, it doesn't bother me much, but I can see it would be infuriating to some people. It is rather amazing to me that Nokia claims not to be aware of this bug.
