So my husband's sister's husband's brother's son got married in Mississauga this past weekend. The groom is a Canadian of Asian Indian descent, the bride is Canadian of non-Asian Indian descent. The wedding was quite unique. Two ceremonies; first a traditional Indian ceremony and later on a non-Indian ceremony where they exchanged their vows. This past Friday, our family went to Mississauga for a wedding (wedding related blog coming up next). So at the Sarnia border (husband feels crossing from Sarnia cuts our commute down by 30-40 miles), the customs officer and the hubby had the following dialog:Customs Officer: Roll down the window please. Where you guys off to?Husband: Rolls down window, hands four US passports to him and said "

Now that “Breaking News” about impending snowstorms has dissipated, the media has a new reason to interrupt our restful television watching by bombarding us with swine flu updates. As each new suspected case of the flu surfaces we are informed about it in almost breathless recitations from reporters on the scene. Even before the individual’s symptoms have been analyzed by the Center for

On the leg from Amsterdam to Mumbai, I had the misfortune of being served by an Indian steward. When I asked him if he could leave the tonic water (mind you, not the mini gin bottles, but the tonic water) he said "he has to come back and will give it to me then". He didn't. I didn't ask again although it made me furious that I let him get away with that. WTH! why did he act as if he was serving

Yeah, eggs are vegetarian, that's what an Northwest attendant on my flight from Detroit to Amsterdam (AMS) on way to Mumbai, India said to me. Let me start from the beginning. On the final stretch of the Detroit to Amsterdam, the Northwest attendants began serving breakfast. When I saw that it was a hot, piping, egg biscuit /sandwich, I asked him if there was a vegetarian breakfast option.

General Motors (GM) unveiled its restructuring plan tonight (after the US stock market closed, in a strategic move, I suppose). But the information shared by Rick Wagoner and his lieutenants in a live press conference was neither surprising nor much different than previously shared.Bottom line messages reiterated by Rick Wagoner were that GM requests more than $16B in loans; will make more job

I'm an Indian American, and I'm damn proud to be one.I am proud of my values and upbringing that come from my birth in India. India, a country which is seeped in an ancient culture so immersed in spirituality and humanity that it continues to awe me. Ok, so as an Indian, I was really proud to see Slumdog Millionaire and its cast get so much positive attention in Hollywood.I was also quite annoyed with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, or Big B as he's known, when he made some not so positive comments about Slumdog Millionnaire. Then I watched excerpts of Slumdog Millionaire myself and thought "OH MY GOD"! (I have yet to watch the movie in its entirety.)

Since I launched the Michigan India Chamber of Commerce, I get a lot of random emails from random people who somehow find my email address. The Mumbai blasts have really angered the South Asian (Asian Indian) community around the world. US Non-Resident Indians (NRI) are just as angry. Every social event somehow ends up discussing the Mumbai Blasts and how angry Indians feel about the lack of action on the part of the Indian government in the aftermath of the Mumbai Blasts. But the US Indian community is not JUST ANGRY, it is taking
