One
thing am truly amazed about US is the variety of lakes they offer
tourists...I've often thought why lakes make great tourist
attraction when there are a lot other nature's beauties that can go
up the rank tables...well, I was wrong as should be evident from MY
:) precious capture.
For
mundane info, the below link is worth a click
If
you are thinking the same (:S), a bit of google/wiki search would
reveal the following natural beauties present in the sub-continent
More
info on spectacular lakes would certainly interest
moi...Cheers!!

Amalgamation of acronyms
is indeed contagious...my personal experience...:)
Balaji Bhavan and Bagya
have been the favourite eatout destinations for the prashanthi
pacers. And that was supposedly the birth place of all these
useless acronyms. No wonder some friendly fittings and exotic
exaggerations made me an official acronym-user.
It was time
for Sid's turn to treat us for winning a lakh worth of prizes at
the "Vijay Latchadhipadhi" TV game show. And the obvious venue was
BB. From now on, you are expected to comprehend my acronyms or else
this would not be an enjoyable read! These treats have proved to be
the perfect mokkai spots for Seek's bulbs & blushes, my "the
perfect iyer boy" behaviours, Kapil's gratefulness, Gan's silent
samacharams, Sid's heart-throb business, Saye's dinchik works...and
getting back on track, happened to be the occasion when I was
branded the the man of acronyms :|...all this for saving a bit of
energy by saying "PBM @ BB" which meant "Paneer Butter Masala @
Balaji Bhavan" :)

"Some
tortures are physical And
some are mental, But the one
that is both Is
dental." read a popular Ogden Nash poem.
Sitting
on a cozy leatherette "easy" chair of a nearby dental clinic having
tooth technicians
all
around me was indeed an experience. I was open-mouthed, both
literally and otherwise, watching those stainless steel Periodontal
scalers shear the neighboring kids' pre-molars. I was empathizing
for the kid as he didn't even stand a chance to scream out his
pain. On a second thought, I realized that there is no need to
empathize as I am gonna be a scapegoat in a moment. All this for
escaping a dentist for 2 whole years during which Hershey's and
Snickers shooked my teeth and worsened the not-so-bad
cavities.
The clinic was pretty cramped with no fresh air and with too many
people. I was suddenly surrounded by 3 junior dentists who took up
the basic cleaning and providing local anesthesia as the chief doc
was too busy for all these trivial things. A range of fluids washed
my mouth on a timely basis. Most of the dental instruments used
reminded me of my Mechanical Engineering Workshop classes. The
periodontal sickle probe was similar to the flat-rammer used in my
foundry lab and the 2mm dental drill was no different from what we
had used to prove our drilling skills. These fluids and anesthetic
injections slowly made my lower jaw numb and I loathed the taste
prevailing in my mouth during that time. A series of spoons and
surgical drills operated my numb mouth to make sure the cavity
infections are removed. The drilled teeth were then filled with a
cement kinda substance, which, I thought would be the last thing I
like to have touched my teeth. A painful x-ray process followed
next as a verification process. Ya, that was it. I had my worst
cavities treated. I was thinking that I would never show my face to
any dentist again. Just then the attendant gives me a card with my
next appointment printed on it. Well, I was consoling myself that I
still have a week to go :)

Classical Music
had always played an
important role in my life. Still could not find the exact reason -
may be its because I happen to stay closer to Krishna Gana Sabha or
may be its because my near and dear ones had always guided (or
rather forced) me to do so.
Being a shy and modest chap, I was
quite hesitant to get on stages and perform at the beginning. But
things are not the same always. Ever since my college life began,
I started or was rather motivated to start singing. My first
music venture was in my second semester english class. The
memories are still afresh. It was around 0900 hours on the 17th
of January,2001 and my classmates were in no mood to listen to
the english lecture after the 4-day long pongal leave. My
professor had absolutely no option but to stop his lecture and do
something else. It so happened that some fun-lovers in my batch
suddenly started shouting "dp dp dp". There stood dp and began
his mimicry - geof boycott, sachin, kamal, and a few others on
demand. What an effort? It was superb. Next on the hit list was
me. As soon as I heard my name, i turned pink and there was no
way I could escape as there was still an hour of lecture left.
Thats when I first sang in front of a decent
crowd.
And since then I am performing now and
then. Here is a small extract on the feedback received from one of
my friends who happens to be a great critic after listening to
our corporate music club's (Swaralaya) Thyagaraja Aradhana
concert.Sorry pal if this had caused an IPR(Individual's Property
Rights) violation.
"My eldest sister used to evade school
every year on Thyagaraja Aradhana day. I was then in my primary
class. Yesterday was Aradhana day. But I didn’t waste my earned
leave. Why should I when the saint himself graced my office for
the occasion?
I had grown up with an extra bit of
inquisitiveness on how events are organised. Every Swaralaya
concert I had been to has been wonderfully coordinated I’ve to
say and yesterday was no exception. The management was neat. The
compereing material was well worded and this was a big
improvement from last time. The compere did a good job. The Bose
speakers and ‘Chandrasekara acoustics’ made sure that everything
that fell into the rasika’s ears is nectar. What about the music?
Well I’ve reserved the best thing for the end!
I had read about this great saint and
his ‘Nadopasana’
or ‘Music with devotion’. He was, as history reflects,
spontaneity personified. Most of his compositions, it is
believed, sprung up instantaneously during his daily
‘Nakara
Sankeerthanam’. Ordinary mortals can never even
decipher the plane of devotion and his state of mind was when he
merged with his ‘Raghavaya’. Nevertheless, a
large number of exponents of Carnatic music have, over the years,
been successful in carrying forward the Thyagaraja tradition by
‘aradhanas’.
Swaralaya is the latest addition to this list!
Have you insured your fingers Mr.Mridangam? The Mridangist’s
exposition of his skills was exemplary. Mridangam, as a ‘Pakka
vadhyam’, is most effective when it gels well with the song that
it accompanies. There is no point exhibiting your skills when it
doesn’t enhance the effect of the song. Mr.Mridangam seems to
have imbibed this well. Well done Mr.Mridangam! The
‘Pancharathna’
brought into light some new ‘Rathnas’ who’ve been dormant at
our office for so long. The amount of talent in this campus
inspires awe in me every time I witness something like this. The
rendition of ‘Jagadaanandakaaraka’, which if
I’m not wrong was composed of 108 names describing Lord Rama’s
attributes, was superb. The solo performances deserve a special
mention. Adi’s voice was fresh. ‘Ksheera saagara’ was full of
expression. The lady singer was in her elements once again.
‘Sara Sara’ was a
treat. And ‘Nagumo’ was special in more ways
than one. Flute will not sound mellifluous always. When I read in
Sparsh that Hariprasad Chaurasia will play in Bangalore I was
unhappy that I’ll miss something big. Yes I did miss that. But
there is always a compensation for losses. And our flautist
covered for my losses this time. The flow was soothing. The sound
was impeccable. Five minutes of joy… The audience erupted. I
quickly removed the handkerchief from my pocket to wipe off that
tear on my right cheek…
A satisfactory
evening… Except of course for one thing... The concert ended at
7:20 sharp. Really a pity that the buses, which had, many a time
waited for film buffs and DJ bashers for half an hour and one hour,
didn’t bother to wait five more minutes for Swaralaya
rasikas!"

I was really frustrated to hear from
almost every course facilitator (as they are supposed to be called)
that e&r training would be the best part of my Infy career. Now
its more than 3 yrs since I left mysore (after successfully
completing my training ;-)) and suddenly I miss the training days
very badly.
Here I take a trip down the memory lane...
-
Wood framed table clock with a huge
alarm
-
That stupid night lamp whose light
never escapes my eyes (and thats the one which woke me up
everytime;))
-
The technology behind the bathroom
shower which had made my roomie impatient
-
Chocolate flavoured Pure Magic
biscuits for breakfast
-
Hiding the extra milk powder packs
into the cupboard
-
Sooper Cardamom tea at the ILI
building first floor pantry
-
Champak & me...brought me high
school memories
-
Book cricket and comic sketches
during course sessions
-
Bird-watching (atleast trying to :)
during coffee breaks
-
Hunting for 'best among the worst'
lunch
-
Munching Puffs and Samosas at loyal
world
-
Trying my luck to get a geared
bicycle
-
Wondering when the colour fountain
would be switched on...as i was raring to view it thro' the
prism glass in ILI building(didnt succeed till the
end)
-
Making it early to the dhaaba jus
outside Infy campus to avoid a delayed dinner
-
Sagala vs Ragala on Vijay Tv 10:30
PM IST
-
Mokkai and Prank Call kalaais...what
fun that was
-
And of course attempting to learn
some software
What an experience that
was?? no doubt my mysore memories are evergreen!!!
