Remember when the only
guideline for staying hydrated during exercise was to drink–and
drink often? And plain water took the podium as the perfect
sports drink? Thanks to new insights on how our bodies process
fluids and other nutrients while we’re working up a sweat, the
conventional wisdom on when and what to drink is evolving. And
although the rules may have changed, the objective remains the
same: improved performance and optimal health.
Here’s a look at the old and new views on hydration.
Old: Drink ahead of your thirst.
New: Drink according to your thirst.
For years, sports nutrition experts advised athletes to drink “ahead of thirst,” that is, to drink before getting thirsty and more frequently than what thirst dictated during exercise. Experts warned that by the time you feel thirsty, you’ve already become dehydrated. However, recent studies show that being in this state of slight dehydration has no negative impact on performance or health.
For example, in a study from the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, runners did three two-hour workouts while drinking a sports drink at three different rates: by thirst (roughly 13 oz. per hour), at a moderate rate (about four oz. every 15 to 20 minutes), and at a high rate (about 10 oz. every 15 to 20 minutes).
The study found no significant differences in core body temperature (rising body temperature hastens dehydration) or finishing times among the three trials. However, during the high-rate trial two of the eight runners suffered severe stomach distress and couldn’t finish the workout, suggesting that drinking too much too often can cause problems.
“The idea that thirst comes too late is a marketing ploy of the sports-drink industry,” says Tim Noakes, M.D., a professor of sport and exercise science at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. While thirst is not a perfect indicator of hydration status, it does appear to be a good indicator of the optimal drinking rate during exercise, according to Noakes. “The answer is just drink as your thirst dictates.”
Old: Aim to completely prevent dehydration.
New: Aim to slow dehydration.
You’ve probably been told to drink enough fluid during exercise to completely make up for what you lose through sweat. In other words, the goal is to weigh the same before and after your workout. But the latest research has revealed three problems with this advice.
First, when athletes drink according to thirst, they usually replace only 60 to 70 percent of the fluid they lose, but studies have shown that this state of slight dehydration does not harm performance or health.
Second, the recommendation to drink enough fluid to prevent weight-loss is based on the false assumption that all the weight lost is from body fluid evaporating as sweat. However, recent studies show that a significant amount (as much as 60 percent) is actually due to the loss of water stored with fat and carbohydrate molecules, which is released from the muscles when these stores are converted to energy. Although it contributes to sweat and weight loss during exercise, this kind of fluid loss has no dehydrating effect because it doesn’t reduce blood volume.
Third, the problem with drinking to completely prevent dehydration is that it tends to dilute the concentration of sodium and other electrolytes in the blood, especially during prolonged exercise of more than two hours. Electrolytes are dissolved minerals that regulate your body’s fluids, helping create the electrical impulses essential to physical activity. When you sweat, you release more sodium than any other electrolyte. Since even the most electrolyte-packed sports drink has a lower sodium concentration than sweat, when you replace sweat with a sports drink you essentially water down your blood. In extreme cases, blood sodium dilution leads to hyponatremia, a potentially fatal condition where fluid balance is thrown off to the point where cells literally become waterlogged, causing the brain to swell.
Therefore, instead of drinking to completely replace the fluid you sweat out during exercise, aim for keeping thirst at bay. Respond to your thirst right away with small amounts of sports drink, but don’t allow your thirst to build to the point that you’re forced to guzzle down a full bottle at one time. Taking a few sips about every 10 to 12 minutes will help you stay hydrated and avoid stomach upset.

Whole Fraud ~ The Myth of
So-Called Natural Foods
What is really behind the labels at Whole Foods? (photo: Getty Images)
On January 31, organic and natural foods giant Whole Foods Market (WFM) once again attacked the Organic Consumers Association, the nation’s leading watchdog on organic standards, as being too “hard-line” for insisting that retailers like WFM stop selling, or at least start labeling, billions of dollars worth of so-called “natural” foods in their stores – foods that are laced with unlabeled, hazardous genetically engineered (GE) ingredients.
WFM’s most recent attack on OCA predictably backfired, throwing gasoline on the fiery debate surrounding my previous essay “The Organic Elite Surrenders to Monsanto.” In that essay, written in January 2011, I criticized WFM and several other well-known organic companies for their foolish (now hopefully repudiated) stance of espousing “co-existence” with the USDA and Monsanto, in exchange for minimal federal regulation of genetically engineered crops.
In subsequent articles OCA has called for an end to “organic infighting” and for the organic industry, farmers, and consumers to join forces and pass laws or state ballot initiatives (like the current campaign in California) that would require mandatory labels on products containing genetically engineered ingredients, as well as to make it illegal to label or market GE-tainted foods as “natural” or “all natural.”
Anger is now running so high against Monsanto and the USDA, as well as anyone appearing to tolerate “co-existence” with either group, that rumors are fast spreading that Monsanto has bought out, or plans to buy out, WFM. That rumor is untrue. However, it has focused attention once again on the critical issue of food labeling. WFM, and all of us in the organic community, must put an end to labeling fraud in the “natural” products sector, by passing laws that will require brands and supermarkets to clearly label all genetically engineered ingredients on their products.
Growing awareness has created a strong organic movement
Millions of health-minded Americans, especially parents of young children, now understand that cheap, non-organic, genetically engineered, industrial food is hazardous. Not only does chemical- and energy-intensive factory farming destroy the environment, impoverish rural communities, exploit farm workers, inflict unnecessary cruelty on farm animals, and contaminate the water supply, but the end product itself is inevitably contaminated.
Routinely contained in nearly every bite or swallow of non-organic industrial food are genetically engineered ingredients, pesticides, antibiotics and other animal drug residues, pathogens, feces, hormone-disrupting chemicals, toxic sludge, slaughterhouse waste, chemical additives and preservatives, irradiation-derived radiolytic chemical by-products, and a host of other hazardous allergens and toxins.
If common sense weren’t enough, scientists warn us that a public health Doomsday Clock is ticking. Big Biotech and Big Ag are the root cause of 80 million cases of food poisoning every year in the US, as well as an epidemic of allergies, reproductive disorders, food-related cancers, heart attacks, and obesity. Within a decade, these diet- and environment-related diseases – heavily subsidized under our Big Pharma/chemical/genetically-engineered/factory farm system – will likely bankrupt Medicare and the entire U.S. health care system.
Likewise millions of green-minded consumers understand that industrial agriculture poses a terminal threat to the environment and climate stability. A highly conscious and passionate segment of the population is beginning to understand that converting to non-chemical, non-genetically engineered, energy-efficient, carbon-sequestering organic farming practices, and drastically reducing food miles by re-localizing the food chain, are essential preconditions for stabilizing our out-of-control climate and preparing our families and communities for future energy and resource shortages.
Millions of us – consumers, farmers, activists – now realize that unless we act quickly, global warming and climate chaos will soon severely disrupt industrial agriculture and long-distance food transportation, leading to massive crop failures, food shortages, famine, war, and pestilence. Even more alarming, accelerating levels of greenhouse gases (especially from cars, coal, cattle, and related rainforest and wetlands destruction) will soon push global warming to a tipping point that will melt the polar icecaps and possibly unleash a cataclysmic discharge of climate-destabilizing methane, now fragilely sequestered in the frozen arctic tundra.
Thanks to this growing consumer awareness – and four decades of hard work – the organic community has built up a $30-billion “certified organic” food and products sector that prohibits the use of genetic engineering. The rapidly expanding organic/natural products sector – organic (4% of total retail sales) and natural (8%) – now constitutes more than 12% of total retail grocery sales, with an annual growth rate of 10-15%. Even taking into account what appears to be a permanent economic recession and a lower rate of growth than that seen over the past 20 years, the organic and natural market will likely constitute 31-56% of grocery sales in 2020.
This consumer-driven movement, under relentless attack by the biotech and Big Food lobby, and with little or no help from government, has managed to create a healthy and sustainable alternative to America’s disastrous, chemical- and energy-intensive system of industrial agriculture. Millions of organic consumers are now demanding food and other products that are certified organic and non-GE, as well as locally or regionally produced, and minimally processed and packaged.
The myth of “natural” remains a threat
As impressive as this $30-billion Organic Alternative is, it remains overshadowed by an additional $50 billion in annual spending by consumers on products marketed as “natural.”
Recent polls indicate that many green-minded consumers remain confused about the qualitative difference between products labeled or advertised as “natural,” versus those labeled as organic. Many believe that “natural” means “almost organic,” or that a natural product is even better than organic.
Walk down the aisles of any Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, or any upscale supermarket and look closely. What do you see? Row after row of attractively displayed, but mostly non-organic “natural” (i.e. conventional) foods and products. By marketing sleight of hand, these conventional foods, vitamins, private label items, and personal care products become “natural” or “almost organic” (and overpriced) in the “natural” supermarket setting.
It’s no wonder – and no accident – that consumers are confused. Companies selling these products are simply telling us what we want to hear, so they can charge a premium price.
In fact, all these “natural,” “all-natural,” and “sustainable,” products are neither backed up by rules and regulations, nor a third-party certifier. Most “natural” or conventional products – whether produce, dairy, or canned or frozen goods – are produced on large industrial farms or in processing plants that are highly polluting, chemical-intensive and energy-intensive.
Test these so-called “natural” products in a lab and what will you find? Pesticide residues, Genetically Modified Organisms, and a long list of problematic and/or carcinogenic synthetic chemicals and additives.
Trace these “natural” products back to the farm or factory and what will you find? Climate destabilizing chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and sewage sludge – not to mention exploited farm workers and workers in the food processing industry. Of course there are many products in WFM, Trader Joe’s and other natural food retailers that bear the label “USDA Organic.” But the overwhelming majority of their products are not.
Perhaps this wouldn’t matter if we were living in normal times, with a relatively healthy population, environment, and climate. Conventional products sold as “natural” or “nearly organic” would be just one more example of chicanery or consumer fraud.
But we are not living in normal times.
Demanding that natural and conventional products and producers make the transition to organic is a matter of life or death. And standing in the way of making this great transition are not only Fortune 500 food and beverage corporations, Monsanto, and corporate agribusiness, as we would expect, but the wholesale and retail giants in the natural products sector as well.
The full transformation to organic begins with us
We cannot continue to hand over 88% of our consumer dollars to out-of-control, biotech, chemical-intensive, energy-intensive, greenhouse gas- polluting corporations and “profit-at-any-cost” retail chains such as Wal-Mart.
We must not allow the “natural” sector to degenerate into a “green-washed” marketing tool that merely disguises unhealthy and unsustainable food and farming practices. We must not allow “natural” to become a green shield for Monsanto and the biotech industry in their quest to take over global agriculture.
Instead, we must demand that the “natural” sector move our nation toward an organic future. How – and how quickly – can we move healthy, organic, and “natural” products from a 12% market share, to becoming the dominant force in American food and farming?
This is a major undertaking, one that will require a major transformation in public consciousness and policy.
But it is doable, and absolutely necessary.
The first step – before we overthrow Monsanto, Wal-Mart, and Food Inc. – is to put our own house in order. That means shopping for certified organic products.
What does certified organic or “USDA Organic” mean? Certified organic means the farmer or producer has undergone a regular inspection of its farm, facilities, ingredients, and practices by an independent third-party certifier, accredited by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). The producer has followed strict NOP regulations and maintained detailed records. Genetically engineered ingredients, synthetic pesticides, animal drugs, sewage sludge, irradiation, and chemical fertilizers are prohibited. Farm animals, soil, and crops have been managed organically. Food can be processed using only approved methods. Ingredients must be on the “allowed” list.
If every one of us pays close attention to the labels on our food – choosing certified organic over “natural” – we can increase demand for organic, sustainable, healthy foods.
Step two? Demand that your local and state legislators pass labeling laws so that all so-called “natural” products move in a “transition-to-organic” direction. Tell your elected officials that you have the right to know what is – and isn’t – in your food.
If we all work together, the U.S. will be well on its way to solving three of the nation’s most pressing problems: deteriorating public health, climate change, and the energy crisis.
Don’t be fooled. Stop buying so-called “natural” products unless you have no other choice. Buy certified “USDA Organic” products today and every day. Your health and the health of the planet are at stake. And please join the rapidly growing campaign in California and other states to force mandatory labels on GE foods and to make it illegal to label or advertise GE-tainted foods as “natural” or “all natural.”
Ronnie Cummins is the co-founder and National Director of the Organic Consumers Association.
Well, I have noticed that
the high fructose corn syrup marketing machine is in full swing
again. They are still trying to convince us that this junk
product is the same as real sugar. It’s not folks, and it’s
is leading to insulin resistance, diabetes and diabetes, just to
name a few. They will not stop pushing this onto the buying
public, so it is up to us, the informed consumer, to make sure we
make the right choices when shopping for us and our
families. Make sure you always read labels for the listed
ingredients and stay away from this sweet poison.
(NaturalNews) Adolescents who consume foods and beverages containing high fructose corn syrup already have, present in their blood, evidence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes according to a recent study. The results of the new study, to be published in February 2012 in The Journal of Nutrition, provide strong scientific evidence of the negative health consequences of fructose on the human body.
Health consequences of HCFS show up early
An investigation by scientists from the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) followed 559 children ages 14-18. The study subjects’ dietary habits were measured; their blood analyzed and blood pressure, body fat and other health measurements taken. The researchers found a correlation between high-fructose diets and markers for heart and vascular disease such as higher blood pressure, fasting glucose, insulin resistance, levels of C – reactive protein, related to inflammation.
Teens whose diets included more HFCS also had lower levels of HDL cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol) and of the fat burning hormone adiponectin. In addition, study subjects who often consumed the industrial sweetener were more likely to have midsection fat, referred to as visceral adiposity, another known risk factor for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. More generalized fat distribution does not appear to have a link to HFCS or the other health risk factors.
Norman Pollock, assistant professor of pediatrics at GHSU and co-lead author of the study said that “There is not much data in children and adolescents,” although “adolescents consume the most fructose so it’s really important to not only measure the levels of fructose but to look at what it might be doing to their bodies currently and, hopefully, to look at cardiovascular disease outcomes as they grow.”
Re-shaping teen diets
Dr. Vanessa Bundy, a pediatric resident at MCG as well as co-lead author of the study, stated “It is so very important to provide a healthy balance of high-quality food to our children and to really pay close attention to the fructose and sucrose they are consuming at their home or anyone else’s. The nutrition that caregivers provide their children will either contribute to their overall health and development or potentially contribute to cardiovascular disease at an early age,” Bundy also pointed out that parents can help their teens by modeling good health habits, including both nutritious dietary choices and regular exercise.
Bundy also remarked on a truth that alternative health experts have long known but official medical science and health regulatory agencies have been slow to acknowledge: “Fructose itself is metabolized differently than other sugars and has some byproducts that are believed to be bad for us. The overall amount of fructose that is in high fructose corn syrup is not much different than the amount in table sugar but it’s believed there’s something in the syrup processing that plays a role in the bad byproducts of metabolism.”
Previous studies involving animals have had similar results to the Georgia study, but evidence of a direct health link among children between HCFS and health problems may finally spur action to limit adolescent consumption of the sweetener. Pollock noted “Ultimately we want to use this paper and other papers to kind of change politically how food is distributed into the schools, and the types of foods, to cut down on these specific types of foods with high fructose corn syrup in them.”
Pollock also pointed out that the study he and his team conducted was unusual in its focus on the total amount of fructose consumed in the diet. “A unique aspect of our study design is that we took into account the fructose released from sucrose during digestion along with the fructose found in foods and beverages. Because sucrose is broken down into fructose and glucose before it arrives at the liver for metabolism, it is important to consider the additional fructose from sucrose when determining the overall health effect of fructose.”

Aborted Human Fetal Cells in Your Food, Vaccines & Cosmetics
Posted on December 22, 2011 by Dr. Eowyn
Dr. Helen Ratajczak, a former drug company scientist, just published a comprehensive review of autism research. Buried in her 79-page review are five words that reveal a secret Big Pharma has kept from you:
“…Grown in human fetal tissue.”
As Dr. Mercola reports for Health Impact News Daily, Dec. 21, 2011, the line reads (page 70):
“An additional increased spike in incidence of autism occurred in 1995 when the chicken pox vaccine was grown in human fetal tissue.”
But that fact is never disclosed in your vaccine consent form, which is why most people are unaware that cell cultures derived from aborted human fetuses have been used extensively in vaccine production for decades. And vaccine makers are just content that most of the public are ignorant of this most inconvenient truth. For if we knew, we might be dissuaded from getting the vaccine.
Why are human fetal cells used in the production of vaccines? Joseph Herrin explains, in his August 14, 2009 article, “Hell’s Pharmacy”:
The traditional process is to inject viral material into chicken eggs and then to harvest the antibodies that are produced. This is a time intensive process, and a way to speed up the production of vaccine has been sought, and has been found.
The foremost way to streamline the process involves taking human cells, instead of eggs, and using them as the medium in which to grow the viral material to produce the desired vaccine. [...] one company in particular has a line of cellular material that they license to other major pharmaceutical companies so that they can create pharmaceutical products. These products include flu vaccines.
The company is called Crucell. It actually has multiple lines of human cell material, but one in particular, called PER.C6, is marketed to be used to develop vaccines. What the company does not announce publicly is that the cell line was derived from an aborted baby.
According to Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute (SCPI), the following 24 vaccines are produced using cells from aborted fetuses and/or contain DNA, proteins, or related cellular debris from cell cultures derived from aborted human fetuses:
| Polio | PolioVax, Pentacel, DT Polio Absorbed, Quadracel (Sanofi) |
| Measles, Mumps, Rubella |
MMR II, Meruvax II, MRVax, Biovax, ProQuad, MMR-V
(Merck) Priorix, Erolalix (GlaxoSmithKline) |
| Varicella (Chickenpox and Shingles) |
Varivax, ProQuad, MMR-V, Zostavax (Merck) Varilix (GlaxoSmithKline) |
| Hepatitis A |
Vaqta (Merck) Havrix, Twinrix (GlaxoSmithKine) Avaxim, Vivaxim (Sanofi) Epaxal (Crucell/Berna) |
| Rabies | Imovax (Sanofi) |
Educational psychologist Dr. Susan Tyrrell reports for LifeNews.com, Dec. 13, 2011, that Children of God for Life has produced a one-page list of fetal cell products that include food, cosmetics, and vaccines. Below is the list. You can also download the list in pdf format by clicking here.

Senomyx Products:
Many of the above products manufactured by Pepsi, Cadbury, and Nestles, make use of additives developed by Senomyx, an American biotechnology company that develops additives to amplify certain flavors and smells in foods. Senomyx’s website claims that it has reverse engineered the receptors in humans that react for taste and aroma, and they are capitalizing on these discoveries to produce chemicals that will make food taste better.
Children of God for Life, citing the Senomyx paper “Human receptors for sweet and umami taste” in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, claims Senomyx uses aborted fetal cells in its products and testing, making use of Human Embryonic Kidney 293 cells (HEK 293).
Senomyx has not denied this. The company lists several large corporate partners or “collaborators” on its website, such as PepsiCo and Nestle. Campbell Soup Company was a Senomyx corporate partner, but recently ended its partnership after pro-life groups brought up the matter of the use of human fetal cells. The recommendation is to boycott all of Senomyx’s products.
Neocutis Cosmetics:
Neocutis is one company that uses Senomyx. The company produces anti wrinkle creams that contain cells from a 14 week gestation aborted male baby. It is recommended that we boycott all Neocutis products, especially the following:
Vaccines Containing Aborted Fetal Cells And the Manufacturers:
Other medicines:
SCPI has a list of cosmetics that are similarly produced from aborted fetal tissue cell lines.
Even PepsiCo’s shareholders, who are not a religious or pro-life group, filed a resolution with the government office, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to demand they stop using fetal cell derived products because it was unnecessary and hurting business. You can find some general background on what we have called the “Industry of Death” .
The seasonal flu vaccine actually has a low rate of effectiveness, of about 6%. There is evidence that Vitamin D better protects us from the flu. In fact, 70% of doctors and nurses, and 62% of other health care workers do NOT get the yearly flu shot because:
In the end, we must ask ourselves two questions:
1. Is this necessary? No.
Animal cell lines produce vaccines and biologics as economically
and effectively as the aborted fetal cell lines.
Rejuvenating anti-aging creams and cosmetic products are
available produced using animal and non-fetal materials. Moral
options exist for Rabies, Polio, Rheumatoid Arthritis. Separate
moral options currently are not available for Measles and Mumps.
2. Is this safe? We don’t know.
Studies have not yet been done to determine the health
consequences of injecting contaminating aborted fetal DNA and
materials into our children, into our bodies, or into our skin.

Master Amino Acid Pattern
is, by far, the most profound amino acid supplement ever
created. I know this sounds like a huge statement, and it
is. I have been working with this amazing product for the
last 15 years and have found it to be instrumental in building
lean muscle tissue, repairing damaged tissue from training, but I
have developed quite a following of people that have other
reasons for using it. People with gastrointestinal issues
have found great success, and relief, from using Master Amino
Acid Pattern. Since it is pre-digested, it places no burden
on the digestive system, never sees the kidneys, produces no
nitrogen metabolite, and no catabolic waste. That was a
mouthful! What that means to those with certain “issues” is
that it is very easy on the system and does not add pain or
discomfort with just trying to get a high source of quality
protean.

Amino acids are often described as one of the building blocks of human life. Amino acids are a group of 20 organic acids (containing carbon), each of which has nitrogen and hydrogen atoms in its construction.
Amino acids are most numerous chemicals in the body. Amino acids are present in the thousands of different proteins that are employed within the body to construct and maintain its muscles, skin, bone, and organs. Proteins are also required in the manufacture of hormones, the chemical-signaling agents secreted in the various glands that constitute the body’s endocrine system, controlled by the thyroid gland. Proteins are also the key ingredient in the formation of collagen, the elastic tissue that permits the ligaments, tendons, and all connective tissues of the body their range of movement.
Of the 20 amino acids utilized in a variety of body functions and processes, nine acids are classed as essential amino acids. These chemicals are not capable of being produced or synthesized within the body, and each must be obtained through dietary sources. The remainder are classed as nonessential amino acids, substances that are manufactured within the body, chiefly through the action of the liver.
Amino acid supplements are a part of the broader range of protein supplements used by some athletes to obtain specific training advantages. Sports that place a premium on muscle mass and strength, such as weightlifting, wrestling, American football, and various track and field events such as the shotput, are those athletes often seek to gain the perceived benefits of additional amino acids to assist them in their strength training.
The theory in support of amino acid supplements is straightforward in its reasoning. A traditional balanced diet will be composed of 60-65% carbohydrates, 12-15% protein, and less than 30% fats, in addition to proper vitamins, minerals, and an ample supply of phytochemicals consumed as a part of the carbohydrate/protein/fat regime. Athletes endeavoring to build greater strength will often correspondingly increase the amount of protein; the desired amino acids will be extracted from these protein sources through the digestive and absorption process. Proteins are not created equal; not all protein sources contain the same amounts or quality of protein, as measured by the quality of the amino acids contained in the food. In the assessment of protein quality, the amino acid structure of an egg is the standard against which all proteins are measured. Athletes who use protein supplements will seek an increase in both the quantity of amino acids ingested, as well as a high quality protein to supply the best and most useful amino acids.
It is a cardinal rule of the twin sciences of diet and nutrition that all macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) and micronutrients (all vitamins and most minerals) are most efficiently absorbed into the body through food, as the body is constructed to best receive and absorb these substances through digestion. On that basis, a protein supplement is an inferior means by which to consume proteins.
The secondary issue concerning amino acid supplements is the linear assumption that if the athlete wishes to build more muscle, the athlete will require more protein to be metabolized into amino acid. The modern trend in sports science is directed away from significantly increased amino acid consumption. The formation of additional muscle tissues in response to training demands can be achieved through increases of amino acids consumption of less than 5%.
Excess amino acids are not stored within the body in the manner of fats (through adipose tissue) or carbohydrates (either through glycogen or through conversion to fats). The body tends to dispose of excess amino acids through the breakdown of the acid and disposal through the renal system. Protein breakdown creates urea, which precipitates stress on the renal system.
Amino acid supplements carry all of the other risks inherent in any form of dietary supplementation. Unless the product is obtained from a known and proven source (or the athlete has the means to test the product themselves, an unlikely proposition), supplementation carries with it an element of risk. The risks assumed are both legal and physiological.
The legal risks for an elite athlete in the use of amino acid supplements is the history, within the industry, of adding substances to the formulation that are either not disclosed to the consumer or are disguised in the packaging. Studies conducted in the United States after 2000 determined that up to 25% of the tested protein or amino acid supplements contained forms of anabolic steroids, or anabolic steroid prohormones (precursors)—chemicals that facilitate the production of testosterone in the body. Such substances are clearly added to supplements by manufacturers to promote greater strength and weight gains among its users, all of which would be attributed to the “legal” ingredients listed on the commercial packaging.
The consumption of hidden anabolic products may pose a significant health hazard to consumers. If an elite athlete were the subject of a doping test and failed the test on the basis of these unknown additives, the prevailing legal view of anti-doping agencies worldwide is that of strict liability on the part of the athletes: they will be generally held accountable for anything that they ingest into their bodies.

Getting all the nutrition your body needs on a daily basis is a real challenge. I don’t know about you but I do not eat all fresh fruits and veggies in there raw pristine form everyday. Do you? Fortunately, I drink my Organic Greens and Fruits. It has 9 servings of organic produce in every serving. I have written a little article to outline what is going on in the “supplement” industry.

Malnutrition is on the rise today, even with an increase in food
consumption. The supplement industry has grown so large because
the nutrient levels in our fruits and vegetables has gone down so
far.Even the fresh food we get today is not as nutrition as it
was even 30 years ago. Many diets consist of highly processed,
prepackaged foods that contain fillers, preservatives and
artificial chemicals. To get proper nutrition you must eat a diet
filled with lots of fresh vegetables, whole grains and whole
foods. Can you see now why companies that sell nutritional
products are doing so well?
You may be taking vitamin or mineral supplements yourself.
Although the use of nutritional supplements has increased, the
increase of disease has gone up right along with it. Does
this mean that taking supplements doesn’t work?
The good news is that not all supplements are created the
same. Are you getting your nutrients from whole foods or
synthetic tablets?
The human body was not made to use synthetic supplements, our
bodies are designed to use real food. In fact many people are not
aware that their bodies are not able to use the vitamins they
take.Whole food supplements nourish your body in a holistic
way. They contain trace minerals, phyto-nutrients and other
elements that aid in vitamin digestion and absorption.Drinking
adequate water also plays a significant part in nutrition.
If you don’t have enough water in your system your body simply
can’t absorb the nutrients effectively form the food you eat.The
main problem with synthetic, also known as “fake”, nutrients is
that they are often in forms your body just is not able to
utilize at the cellular level and if they can not enter the
cellular membrane, they do your body no good.A super food is a
term for super green powders containing Spirulina, Chlorella,
Kelp and other green vegetables. The single best reason for
using this powder, organic form of nutrition is that it is easily
absorbed by the body. The great thing about an organic greens
powder is that there are no pills to breakdown.
Cheap food usually means low nutrition value (fast food), so
eating more of it will not necessarily give you more nutrition,
but it will make you fat.
Whole grains, seasonal vegetables and organic homegrown produce
was how we humans ate for tens of thousands of years. It was not
until the industrial revolution that the way food was produced
underwent a serious change. The growing, farming, and
manufacturing practices shifted during this time. This change also
brought forth the rise in supplemental nutrition.
Consuming a high quality organic whole food product makes much
more sense than a handful of pills. It doesn’t matter how many
you take if your body can’t use them. The best form of vitamins
and minerals are found in organic super green food
powders.Because whole foods contain such a high amount of trace
elements, your body reps all the benefits. Are you ready to feel
the effects of an organic green super food today?

This is a great article written by Dr. Mercola…enjoy
Is your meat made of scraps stuck together with “meat glue”? This exposé reveals how you may be being deceived about the meat you buy — and why the dangerous practice makes food poisoning hundreds of times more likely.
Dr. Mercola’s Comments:
If you are still on the fence, wondering if you should make the switch to organic, grass-fed beef from a local farm instead of the mass-produced variety from your local supermarket, perhaps this news brief from the Australian Today Tonight show will help change your mind.
If you haven’t yet seen the video, please click through and be ready to be amazed.
By now most people probably realize that ground beef contains the meat from hundreds of animals from different parts of the world, but few would ever suspect that the same can be true for prime cut steaks! Well, that’s possible through the use of so-called meat glue, used to “super-glue” small chunks of meat together that are too small to sell, and passing it off as prime cuts…
What is Meat Glue?
Meat glue is an enzyme called transglutaminase. Some meat glues are produced through the cultivation of bacteria, while others are made from the blood plasma of pigs and cows, specifically the coagulant that makes blood clot.
When sprinkled on a protein, such as beef, it forms cross-linked, insoluble protein polymers that essentially acts like a super-glue, binding the pieces together with near invisible seams. The glue-covered meat is rolled up in plastic film, followed by refrigeration. Some manufacturers have gotten so proficient in the practice that even an expert butcher can’t tell the difference between a piece of prime beef and one that’s been glued together with bits and pieces of scraps!
Meat glue is also used for:
Pork / ham Lamb Fish products such as fish balls
Chicken Imitation crab meat Processed meats
Interestingly enough, Ajinomoto is one of the leaders in transglutaminase. You may recognize that name as they are also one of the leaders in aspartame. According to their website, transglutaminase is also used to “improve the general texture” of a variety of foods aside from meat, such as fat-free yogurt and cheese.
Meat Glue—Both Unethical and Potentially Dangerous
First, there’s the obvious issue of misleading consumers. Since food manufacturers are not required to disclose what they’ve done, you think you’re buying a prime cut when in fact you’re paying top dollar for glued-together bits and pieces that would otherwise have been discarded or sold for a fraction of the cost.
But aside from the fact that it’s a pure scam, there’s the increased possibility of contracting food poisoning from these meats.
According to the featured report, the bacterial contamination of meat glued steak is hundreds of times higher than a solid piece of steak! Hence, if you cook your steak rare, which is the healthiest way to cook your meat, you’re at a much greater risk of contracting food poisoning.
Additionally, when an outbreak does occur, it’s difficult, if not impossible, to discern the source of the contamination, as chunks of meat from multiple cows have now been combined.
Food poisoning is a serious problem in the US. According to US CDC estimates, anywhere between 6 to 81 million Americans contract food borne illnesses each year, and food poisoning claims up to 9,000 lives annually. Considering the fact that our current food system encourages pathogens and contamination’s of all kinds, it’s not all that surprising that as many as one in four people get sickened each year…
The Dangers of Mass Food Production
Many people are still in the dark about the vast differences between Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) and organically-raised, grass-fed beef, both in terms of contamination and nutrient content.
It’s important to understand that when you raise animals in a CAFO — away from their natural environments and diets – you dramatically increase the risk of pathogenic contamination that can make you ill. Just take a look at the 2011 USDA list of recalls for various meat products. We’re not even half-way through the year and the list is already a long one.
Most CAFO cows are fed grains (oftentimes genetically modified grains, which make matters even worse), when their natural diet is plain grass. Grain diets create a much higher level of acidity in the animal’s stomach, which E. coli bacteria need to survive.
Meanwhile, E. coli contamination is actually quite rare in organic beef for this reason—the cows just aren’t susceptible to those kinds of disease-causing bacteria and viruses when they eat what they were designed to eat.
You’d think that since the meat is being raised in ways that are known to encourage disease-causing organisms, there would be stringent requirements on testing. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. For example, there is no federal requirement for meat grinders to test their ingredients for E.coli prior to selling them. And most retailers do not test either. In August 2008, the USDA issued a guideline urging meat processors to test their ingredients before grinding. But the guideline is only optional and has been met with criticism and resistance from the meat industry.
Other Health-Harming Side Effects of Mass Food Production
Modern mass production of food has created a wide array of safety problems. And the methods employed to make food “safer” typically deepens rather than solves them. In fact, once you delve into the world of the food industry, it becomes clear that eating much of it is like playing a game of Russian roulette with your health.
While I’m not going to address them all here, one problem in particular, which relates to the issue of meat, is the issue of contamination with hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides. As much as 70 percent of all antibiotics used in the U.S. are for animals, primarily to serve as growth enhancers. The excessive use of antibiotics in agriculture is the primary reason for the rampant increase in antibiotic-resistant disease in humans.
As for pesticides, most people do not realize that conventionally-raised meat is actually one of the primary sources of pesticide exposure—not fruits and vegetables!
How’s that?
Again, it goes back to the fact that CAFO animals are raised on a diet consisting primarily of grains, which are of course sprayed with pesticides.
Genetically modified (GM) grains are another growing problem. Not only are they sprayed with MORE pesticides than conventional crops, but we also do not know exactly what the health effects on humans might be when you eat meat raised on GM grains.
However, in an open letter to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Dr. Don Huber, professor emeritus at Purdue University, warns that a never-before-seen plant pathogen in Roundup Ready GM soybean and corn appears to be responsible for high rates of infertility and miscarriages in cattle.
In the letter, posted on the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance website, Dr. Huber states:
“This previously unknown organism is only visible under an electron microscope (36,000X), with an approximate size range equal to a medium size virus. It is able to reproduce and appears to be a micro-fungal-like organism. If so, it would be the first such micro-fungus ever identified. There is strong evidence that this infectious agent promotes diseases of both plants and mammals, which is very rare.
… Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of this organism in a wide variety of livestock that have experienced spontaneous abortions and infertility. Preliminary results from ongoing research have also been able to reproduce abortions in a clinical setting.
The pathogen may explain the escalating frequency of infertility and spontaneous abortions over the past few years in US cattle, dairy, swine, and horse operations. These include recent reports of infertility rates in dairy heifers of over 20%, and spontaneous abortions in cattle as high as 45%.”
Whether or not this could affect humans who consume these grains or meats raised on them is yet unknown, but I wouldn’t be the least surprised if that’s exactly what we’ll eventually find…

The benefits of including organic green superfoods into your diet are well known. The farming practices over the last 175 years has done more to reduce the nutritional value of the food grown than in any time in our history. It all started in the 1850′s with chemical fertilizers. These inorganic compounds made the food grow real big and real fast, unfortunately it also deprived the soil of it’s ability to convert inorganic metallic minerals into ORGANIC minerals that are so important to our overall health. The conventional farming industry is a business, and as a business it’s main concern is a profit (well, isn’t that the main concern of any business?) at whatever cost. Well, what they found was these chemical fertilizers were cost effective and could in a greater yield in the same amount of time. This was great for the farmer, but what about the consumer (you and me)? Isn’t it high time you and I start taking some responsibility with our food choices and the places we spend our dollars. Choose locally grown food in your area at the many farmers markets that are popping up in many cities. They provide produce often picked within a couple of days, as apposed to the apples you may be buying from Chili that were picked green weeks ago so that by the time they make it to your local market, they are the right color. There are many reactions that occur during the last stages of the ripening process and if it is pick early, those process are cut short and the food never gets to finish it’s growth to maturity. I have included some more fun facts in the rest of this article.

Although many people’s calorie intake has increased, there is
still rampant malnutrition in our country. What has given
rise to a multi billion nutritional supplement business is
because most people believe that if they eat a lot of food they
receive plenty of nutrition. The fact that nearly two
thirds of Americans take some type of vitamin supplement
regularly shows that people already know their diets are lacking
in nutrition. Since food quality has diminished so much
over the last few decades, the nutrition has become very
profitable. Food grown today does not have near the
nutrition it once had. The modern American diet is filled
with food that is pre-packaged and filled with chemicals and
preservatives. In order to get the right nutrition out of
your food, it should consist of mainly whole, organic
foods. Nutritional supplements are huge moneymakers.
Hopefully you are using supplements to improve your overall
health. Yes, even as the use of supplements has grown the
level of diseases has not dropped. In fact many rates have
increased. Might this mean that nutritional supplements are
doing what they are supposed to?
Not all nutritional supplements are the same. There are two
diferent types of nutrients you can buy, those created by nature
and synthetic. Your body was not designed to gleen it’s
nutrition from synthesized vitamins, it has a highly complex
system that removes and absorbs what it needs form food. In
fact many people are not aware that their bodies are not able to
use the vitamins they take. The best way to feed your body
the nutrients it needs in a complete way is by using total food
supplements. These nutrient sources are full of vitamins,
minerals, and the co-factors that are usually absent from
synthetic supplements. You must also bring in adequate
amounts of good old H2O to let your nutrition work the way it is
supposed to. Water is an important key for your body being
able to absorb the nutrients. Synthesized vitamins are not
necessarily used by your body even if you take them
regularly. A “suprefood” on the other hand is a nutrient
rich source of vitamins and mierals taken from organic greens,
organic fruits, chlorella, and other natural sources and are
converted into super greens powder mixes you add to water.
The primary advantage of using this form of nutritional
supplement is that the nutrition in this powder is easily and
immediately digested and used by your body. Organic green
powders are the best choice because there are no tablets to break
down and there are no binders or fiilers to slow down or hamper
absorbtion.
We have, up until the last number of decades, had access to much
higher quality foods that were not poisoned with industrial
insecticides, we ate local organic produce. A hundred years
ago, the American diet was changed to a mass production style of
farming. The shift away from traditional farming practices
resulted in a change in growing, processing, delivery, and
chemical applications for virtually everyone. The rise of
the nutrition industry and organic green powders was brought
about by these changes.
It stands to reason that a whole food supplement would give your
body much more nutrition than a pill or caplet. If your
body can’t absorb the nutrients, it will do you no good.
Super green food powders can deliver a very high quality of
vitamins, minerals, and other co-factors. Since it is made
from real food, you get much more out of it. Are you ready
to feel the effects of an organic green super food today?

About Master Amino Acid Pattern
Most people, especially athletes, the elderly, women, dieters, and children, do not meet their dietary protein requirement for optimum health. This leads to premature aging, injury, illness, and slowed recovery.
MAP® is used by the body to make protein many times better than any other food or protein supplement*.Master Aminos® (MAP®) is a patented dietary proteins substitute, which provides a unique pattern of essential amino acids, in a highly purified, free, crystalline form. After oral ingestion, Master Aminos® is rapidly utilized. Master Aminos® does not require the aid of peptidases and therefore, it is absorbed, within 23 minutes, through the first 100 cm of functional small intestine. Master Aminos® does not provide any fecal residue. Master Aminos® is amphoteric. Master Aminos® is supplied in tablets of 1,000 mg for oral administration. Each tablet of Master Aminos®, in addition to the active ingredient MAP®, contains no inactive ingredients.
CLINICAL STUDIES
The results of a comparative, double-blind, triple crossover Net
Nitrogen Utilization (NNU) clinical study have shown that the
subjects, while taking MAP®, as a dietary proteins substitute,
achieved a body’s 99% NNU. This means that 99% of MAP’s
constituent amino acids followed the anabolic pathway, thus
acting as precursor of body’s protein synthesis. By comparison,
dietary proteins only provide between 16 to 48% NNU. This fact
evidences that MAP is more nutritious than dietary proteins. This
has been confirmed by the fact that during the study, each
subject body’s nitrogen balance was maintained in equilibrium by
taking MAP, as a sole and total substitute of dietary proteins,
in a dosage of only 400 mg/kg/day, which provided less than 2
kcal/day (1g MAP= 0.04 Kcal). The study results have also shown
that 1% of MAP’s constituent amino acids followed the catabolic
pathway, thus releasing only 1% of nitrogen catabolites and
energy. By comparison dietary proteins release between 52% to 84%
nitrogen catabolites and energy. This fact evidences that MAP is
safer than dietary proteins, and that provides the lowest amount
of energy in comparison to any dietary protein.
What is an Amino Acid?
Hydrogen, oxygen, Carbon and Nitrogen
Protein is made up of the elements of Hydrogen, Oxygen &
Carbon; but it also contains, Nitrogen, and this element is what
allows protein to repair and build cells. [Braverman] Amino acids
are the molecules that make up protein; these contain carbon,
oxygen and hydrogen together with molecules that contain,
nitrogen.
The Liver produces about 60% of the amino acids needed by the body, which leaves 40% to be supplied by diet, the Essential Amino Acids. Some of the non-essential aminos made by the body can in some cases be conditionally essential (for example, Histidine, Tyrosine and Taurine are conditionally essential during early growth), cases of disease or stress.
How Much?
The starkest example of the body’s need of protein can be seen in
starvation cases (distended bellies, atrophied muscles, mental
retardation), which cases prove the vital importance of protein
and amino acids.
There is no standard measure of the daily requirement for protein. To determine the need for essential amino acids requires determining how much protein we need. Minimun requirements would be the sum of all essential aminos, plus sufficient Nitrogen for protein metabolism and synthesis. The body excretes nitrogen in the metabolism of protein and bodily discharges as well as in the hair and nails; protein metabolism (break down & assimilation)requires a balance between nitrogen excreted and nitrogen assimilated (the balance in MAP/SON is 1:99).
WHO recommends 3 – 4 g. per kilo of body weight per day (30 – 40 g for an adult man of 150 lbs.). But this measure is not self-explanatory: it assumes the protein is of the highest quality, containing all or most of the essential amino acids. Deficiencies of Vitamins and Minerals, especially vitamin C and B6 important to the absorption & delivery of amino acids can also contribute to deficiencies of essential amino acids.
Amino Acids should be consumed everyday. In fact, one writer states that Protein should be included in every meal, including snacks [Perricone]. This makes sense: protein provides power for regeneration & repair. Deficiencies in essential amino acids lead eventually to disease or death. Animal protein is considered “high quality” because it contains all the essential amino acids, plus some non-essential ones [Braverman]. But, eating a Variety of different vegetable & fruits can also provide all the essential aminos; one obviously has to select for amino acids content.

WHAT IS IT?
An Amino Acids Protein Subsitute
SON Formula/MAP is a formulation of the eight Essential amino
acids arranged in the same ratio as exists in nature (food) and
is pre-digested (free form) to utilize 99% of its amino content.
And the problem for many of us who, because of age or illness, eating preferences or digestive disorders, is that we cannot utilize protein from food very well. Pre-digested SON Formula/MAP is the solution.
Food protein digestion and metabolism put a load on the kidneys and liver because food protein when broken down produces a lot of waste. The amount of waste, depending on the protein source, can be as little as 52% of what’s eaten and as much as 82%.
If you eat a whole egg, for example, 48% of its protein content can be utilized for its amino acids. The remaining 52% is metabolic waste that has to be excreted by the kidneys, liver and intestines. Eggs are Nature’s best protein source (don’t believe the guff about cholesterol, it simply isn’t true).
So, what does the amino acids content of protein do? Look below, but it’s not all about muscle; it’s about bones and teeth and tendons. too, as well as joints and ligaments. But this is just a partial list. Your body makes its own protein from amino acids for every kind of body tissue in every organ, bone and muscle in your body.
MAP’s patented formula will result in:
•optimized muscle mass
•optimized muscle strength
•optimized muscle endurance
•provide a faster and more
efficient recovery after physical activity
MAP® BPS/min is 99% NNU/ 23 min. By comparison the most
nutritious dietary proteins and protein supplements have BPS/min
of 16-32% NNU/180-360 min. This means that the BPS/min of dietary
proteins and protein supplements is 24 to 96 times lower compared
to MAP®.

Later on, by using MAP, during physical activity, you may be experiencing, week after week, an increase in muscle mass, strength and endurance, joined with a shortened recovery period after physical activity. Eventually you may realize that this dramatic improvement is not the result of a “psychological effect” but has indeed been caused by a natural physiological effect.
Here is a great story from someone who really gets the benefits of Master Amino Acid Pattern.
I just ran into this product Master Amino Acid Pattern, in the
wee hours of the morning doing the random research on Anti-aging
and Age Reversal. The facts about this supplement that struck a
lightening bolt through me were that fact that it is 99% Nitrogen
utilized, and generates only 1% waste. I knew immediately what
this meant; that there would be no amino acid toxicity which is
the main problem with over-consumption of Protein. Back in the
day, when I was lifting heavy, I would overload on protein shakes
and I did make muscle gains, but at the expense of my overall
health.
I had an acid buildup in my throat at time and I would get sick
easier from the toxicity overload. After, a while I would stop
because the reactions were too much and were counter-productive
in the long run. It did not fit in with my over-all plan to
regenerate the body. The problem lay in the waste side effect
generated by not only supplements 80% on average, but also food.
Typically, 68% of protein from meat, chicken and fish are not
utilized by the body for building new tissue. There is not much
return on investment from an efficiency point of view with
traditional protein intake. With MAP, the protein is absorbed
directly into the lymph in 23 minutes and does not go through the
normal processing route that ends up being absorbed through the
small intestine. This pre-digested protein is fully utilized in
the process of building new tissue immediately. After sending an
email to Dr. Grandi about the product, I received a phone call
from him and we talked for over a hour about the implications of
his product for Age regression. The product is traditionally
being marketed as an athletic supplement, which is a venue that I
have ignored even though I come from a background where I was
involved with competitive athletics and am trained as a massage
therapist. I worked in a personal training gym for over ten
years, but simply ignored the protein supplements as having much
value for anti-aging purposes.
What I have realized that I was correct in this thinking with the
exception of MAP. MAP is absolutely unique because it is
completely absorbed into the bloodstream with zero energy expense
from processing. It is like free energy for the body! The number
one cause of free-radical consumption is food processing and
breathing. We cannot do much with the damage caused from
breathing, but MAP helps alleviate the damage from food
processing. The most dramatic story he had about the supplement
is a 72 year old came in for a bench press fitness test of 80lbs.
After only 3 weeks on the supplement, he benched 172lbs! Another
woman who is in her late 60′s who has been on the supplement for
less than a year, is now back to wearing bikinis and people swear
she is in her early 50′s. From my limited personal experience
with the product, I have seen muscle mass gains and a loss of
virtually all body fat. You lose that middle age pouch on this
supplement and start to gain the look you had at your peak. The
skin regenerates as well, this has happened to me in only 10 days
on the supplement. My skin is taking on the firm waxy look that I
had in youth and it is very soft now. I realize this is simply
because I now have sufficient quality protein to re-build my body
faster than it is being broken down. I realize now that simply
one of the problems of aging is the inefficiencies of metabolism.
As we get older, our ability to process food degrades. Older
people especially have a hard time. MAP solves this problem for
all age groups.
I have been getting increases in telomere length from products
such as RNA regenerator and the Ascensionenergyprogram.com, but
was not getting the sufficient raw materials to re-make the body.
The problem with calorie restriction is that you need protein to
keep up the replacement of cells and MAP solves that problem. It
is simply the most astounding supplement I have ever run across
since the days of Shaklee.
The nutrition is sucked up immediately into the blood stream and
goes to work at first detoxifying and then later re-building all
forms of tissue from internal organs to the skin. With MAP, you
now have the quality raw materials to re-invent yourself!
