Residual Income is just another name for “recurring” income. Every business, profession or household has some form of income stream. There is contract income, linear income and residual or recurring income. The difference between types of income can be great. Contract income is based on a specified amount for a specified time or specified job. Once the contract is complete the income stops. Linear income is what the majority of the working world receives. You receive income after while you are working from an employer. Once you stop working the income stops. Residual income or recurring income is where you continue to get paid even after you have stopped working.

This makes residual income a very attractive form of income. Artists, musicians, some types of sales people, authors are usually paid in some form of residual income. This is sometimes known as royalties or in the case of sales people it is known as renewal commissions. One of the best examples of residual income comes from the music world. An artist writes a song, it is recorded and then sold. The artist may receive an initial amount for the song but they also receive a small percentage of the income from each subsequent sale of the song. It is a really great way to get rich. Do the work once and then get paid over and over again. Therein lies the great power of residual income!

During the 1920's a small company started using direct selling of dietary supplements to consumers. They found a way to increase their sales and their sales force by building relationships with people and offering them a residual income on the products they sold. The second thing you must remember is to find people you can work with especially if the company requires a lot of personal contact either face to face or by phone. The third and in many instances the most important is the system for recruitment.
